9. Optimize External Links - It is much more important to optimize the external links (links coming from other sites or blogs) in the same way as done to internal links. Though it is out of our capacity to control the links that are coming from blogs owned by others but we can control the links that we put in the articles that we have submitted in the article directories, we can control the links in our guest posts that is when we submit posts to be published in blogs owned by others and etc. All incoming external links are highly valued specially so if they come from relevant sites and pages with high page rank and with relevant anchor and surrounding text.

10. Miscellaneous - Avoid Block Quotes and Java Script as far as possible. Do not post only a video as a post but do give a heading and write a few words describing the video including your keywords as described above - this is because search engines cannot read videos but the text will help it in understanding what the video is about. Also upload the video in major video sites like YouTube, MetaCafe, Google Video etc to get extra traffic.

3. Choose A Blogging Platform - After you have chosen your blog topic and domain name now you need to choose a blogging platform. There are three options available :-

8. Reviews - Consider writing reviews on topics in your niche or on topics of general interest. For example you can think of writing reviews on products, other blogs or websites in your niche, books, tools and resources etc. You can also write reviews on your affiliate products.

9. Sponsored reviews - Write sponsored reviews on blogs, websites or products in your niche - this will give you a post on one hand and some sweet money on the other.

10. Link posts - You can occasionally write posts that is a collection of links to posts on a particular topic present in other blogs or your own blog.

11. Interviews - You can take and publish interviews with famous bloggers who have made a name for themselves in your niche. You can also speak about their online success story and how we can learn and follow their footsteps to achieve success.

12. Videos - You can prepare a video or share one that you have collected from a video site like YouTube or MetaCafe that is relevant to your blog or of general interest.

13. Blog Carnival - You can host a blog carnival on a particular topic in your niche where bloggers will approach you with links to relevant posts to be included in your carnival. Then you can sort them and put the links you have chosen in the form of post and publish it.

14. Guest Posts - Offer guest posting opportunity on your blog and if your blog is a bit old, famous and gets a decent amount of traffic then you will find many bloggers approaching you to write a guest post in your blog (to get some traffic and a few links). Approve the ones that are from your niche and will write relevant content that will increase your blog's value.

15. Answer Comments - As time goes on you will find that it becomes increasingly difficult to answer to each comment posted in your blog so you can keep a track of comments and choose to answer common or related queries in the form of a post.

16. Ask For Suggestions - This is a good practice to occasionally write a post asking for suggestions from your readers on "how you can improve your blog design?" or on "what topics do they want you to write a post on?". This will give you many more new post ideas that you must not have even thought about and also will help you in building up a relation with your readers.

17. Contests - You can plan to hold a contest and write a post accordingly announcing the contest. Also state the rules, eligibility criteria and prizes to be won. People will love your blog and give you a lot of publicity.

18. Podcasts - As with sharing videos you can also record an audio on some topic and post a podcast to share it. You can also share a podcast that you liked and picked up from some other blog or website.

Your Pics - Occasionally you can also post your photographs that you have taken while you were on a trip or of a family function or event etc. This will let your readers know more about you and will naturally draw them more towards you as it is human nature to start liking a person more whom we know more about.

Referring Post - It often happens that when we are surfing the net and reading different blogs we come across posts that we like and feel like mentioning about it in our blog - but we can take this to the next level by writing a post on the same topic either elaborate or abridged version in your own words. But never forget to mention your source or include a link to the original post in your post.

21. Combining Posts - If you can find posts on a particular topic on multiple blogs then you can always mix up the posts and produce a post in your own version. Do mention your sources at the end.

22. Get Freelancers - If you do not mind spending a few bucks then you can always hire a freelance writer to write a post or two for you. Do mention your requirements when hiring a freelancer. This will give you a break and help you in coming up with new ideas to write posts on.

How To Increase Your Blog Traffic? - has been written to give a list of some of the steps that you can take to boost your daily or monthly visitor count. Visitors or Traffic is the "LIFE LINE" of all blogs or websites alike because basically nobody writes a blog or starts a website just for himself to see and read but rather we all have the deep wish that our blogs or websites get thousands or in fact millions of visits per month.

Also those of you (including me) who have the sacred intention of making money from their blogs or sites - traffic becomes the prime target to reach because all monetizing aspects has a direct proportionality relation with the traffic volume - More Traffic = More Money (Simple!). This is because blogs or websites mainly earn their revenue from displaying advertisements (CPC, CPA Text Links or Banners etc) and Affiliate sales etc so more the traffic to a site more will be the possibility for click throughs, impressions or sales so more revenue to be earned.

Here is a list of 25 Practical Tips, Ways or Measures that you can implement or follow to boost your blog traffic :-

1. Unique Informative Posts - "Content is King" is very rightly said because visitors (new and returning) come to your blog mainly looking for some information and not just to waste their spare time on your blog so if you give them the material that they are searching for then naturally they will be satisfied and find the good reason to return to your blog again and again. Give them valuable content that will help them and they will turn into valuable returning visitors. So do your research and gather information and then sit down to write good informative posts on topics that a person may be looking for. Write in a free flowing manner as if you are talking to the visitor one to one. Write in details and give examples wherever possible to make the posts interesting and comprehensible. Include links to resources that will help your visitors. Write in a convincing manner. Never ever try to manipulate or give information that you are not sure about because that will just make your visitors turn away from your blog.

2. Posting Frequency - Try to be consistent in your posting frequency that is if you are making three or two or even one post per week then maintain it. Bloggers talk about posting regularly or even twice or thrice daily but you must attempt it only when you are sure you can maintain it. Yes, a blog by nature is expected to be updated frequently with fresh content but you must do it to the point that you can maintain. Moreover according to me the quality matters much more than the quantity - what's the use of posting some crap regularly just for the shake of posting when nobody will enjoy reading it. I have seen bloggers posting regularly or even three times daily but most of their postings are just bs with no real information or purpose and even out of topic - this is naturally to happen because writing a good post takes time and energy. So rather concentrate on writing good and well researched informative posts that will add value to your blog. Try to write at-least one post per week. I personally write three to four posts a week - you can try this too and never mind if you miss sometimes because that is part and parcel of this game. Enjoy blogging rather than succumb to the pressure of writing posts as this will help you in producing good posts.

On-Page Optimization - You must follow on-page optimization techniques when writing blog posts so that search engines can find your post to be relevant for specific keyword phrases and display your posts in the results. Do keyword research to select and target one long tail keyword phrase with each post and try to optimize your post by including the keywords from the phrase in the post title, body, alt tags, title tags, file names and anchor texts etc. Use of alt and title tags with your images will help your blog receive visitors through the Image Search options of search engines. This will make your post relevant for that long term keyword phrase in the eyes of the search engines thus ranking well in search engine result pages. Just think if you have 100 such well optimized posts and each post gives you 10 unique visitors per day on an average that is 1000 new visitors per day. There are many such long tail keywords present in each niche that can get your posts land in the first page of SERPs with just on-page optimization. In fact I too have some posts which ranks well in SERPs with just on-page optimization like my posts on Hubpages, Ehow, Craigslist, Blogging Platform, Choosing a Niche and many more. Of course off-page optimization is also important as I have discussed in the next point.

4. Off-Page Optimization - Off-page optimization is the most important thing that comes into play if you want to rank well for competitive niches or keywords. If you want to rank well for keywords in competitive niches then on-page optimization will not be sufficient but you will need to take up off-page optimization. Off-page optimization means to build backlinks from both your internal pages as well as from pages of external sites. More the page rank of the pages linking to you more higher will be the quality of links. But only quality is not sufficient you need quantity too. Moreover if the links are made with your chosen keyword phrase (and its combinations) as anchor text then more relevant will they be. But you will not always be able to control the external links as those depends upon the site owner (but there are ways in which you can get links with relevant anchor texts even from external sites which I will discuss in some other posts). Links from within the content surrounded by relevant words and made up of relevant anchor text are the most worthy. So try to gain as many optimized backlinks as possible as this will make your pages rank higher in SERPs thereby getting free and regular search engine traffic for your blog or site.

5. Social Bookmarking - Social Bookmarking sites are the new destinations for getting traffic. Millions of people are using social bookmarking sites today to find information regarding a particular topic or news etc. Social bookmarking takes time but if you want to get your share of traffic from these sites then you need to try to take out some time to bookmark atleast those posts that you think are worth getting attention. You can also use a bookmarking software that will significantly reduce the time needed. There are hundreds of social bookmarking sites with a few new ones being added to the list every year but it is not necessary to bookmark your pages in all the bookmarking sites, rather you can choose the most popular and traffic infested ones like Digg.com, StumbleUpon.com, Delicious.com, Reddit.com, Sphinn.com, Furl.net, Spurl.net and a few more.

6. Guest Posts - Offer to write guest posts in blogs in your niche. But as there are thousands of blogs in each niche so you need to do a search (you can use Google's Blogsearch) to find out blogs that get a significant amount of traffic. Normally if you have something unique to offer in your guest blog post then your offer is never rejected. Guest blog posts feature in the front page of the blog so if your post is well written and informative then there are chances that the visitor may click your link and visit your blog. Moreover your post will stay in that blog for ever to fetch you more traffic in future. You also get some one way backlinks to your blog from your guest post.

7. Blogroll - Add some links to other good blogs in your niche in your Blogroll and approach those blogs to reciprocate by adding your link in their Blogroll. If your blog is relevant then you do get links from them in their blogroll. You will find it tough to convince high traffic blogs to add your link in their blogroll so approach ones with moderate traffic. When you have gained some authority in your niche then you can go for the high traffic ones. Visitors coming to those blogs have the possibility of clicking your link in their blogroll and visiting your blog. If your blog is worthy then then will return again and again.

8. Blog Commenting - Provide a comment form and respond to comments left by visitors in a positive way, answer their questions and queries, call them for action by asking them to express their views and etc so that a relation is formed between you and the visitors. For this you need to apply some optimization techniques to the HTML codes of your pictures or images. This post will teach you the techniques that are used to optimize images in a blog.

How Search Engines See Images/Pictures In Your Blog?

Search Engines are not humans (we all know!) so neither can they see or detect images (at least not till date - may be they will in the near future). Search engines use programmes called "Spiders" or "Crawlers" to see a site (web page). These spiders or crawlers are sent by search engines to read a site. The spider reads a site by a process called "Crawling" or "Indexing" and stores the information in their database. This information is later used by search engines to produce relevant search results for search terms. The spiders can only read the text within HTML codes but can not recognize or read the images or what they mean.

As I have already mentioned above that the search engine spiders cannot read or detect images but there is a way in which you can make the spiders read your images or pictures. This is done by adding "ALT tags" and "TITLE Tags" to the image codes. As alt tags and title tags use texts so the search engine spiders read these texts and know about your images.

Why To Optimize Images?

As I have said earlier and you must have also noticed that images are used in blogs extensively but search engines can not recognise these images. So if these images can be optimized as such so that these images can be read by the search images then this will help your blog attain high ranks in search result pages. Optimizing the images will also help your blog to remain ahead in competition in compared to those who does not optimize their images. Search engines give significant value to the 'alt' and 'title' tags to know about the topic of the web page and uses this in ranking pages in relevant search results.

How To Use Alt Title Tags?

Alt tags stand for "Alternative Text" and are mainly displayed as alternative text in place of images in cases where images are disabled in the reader's browser - thus helping him by providing information about the image in his image disabled browser.

The search engines also use these alternative texts in the alt tags to find more about the topic of the page and use the information in ranking pages in SERPs.

This is an example how alt tags are used in image html codes :-

The alt tag's text also gives more keyword relevance to your page as the keywords that you use within the alt tags are seen as words of your page by the search engines. So one more reason to add alt tags to your images in your blog or website.

Moreover many search engines consider alt tags as very important for images and this leads to a negative impact on the rankings of sites which does not use alt tags with there images. So never miss the alt tags when using images or pictures on your blog pages and websites.

How To Use Title Tags With Images?

Title tags gives the image or picture a title by providing more information on the image. The text within image title tags is displaced when you hover your cursor over the image. You can see the text within the title tags that I used for the images on this post by taking your cursor over one of the images.

The search engines also gives equal importance to the image title tags as it gives to the alt tags. It is used by the search engines to know more about the topic of the page. This information is used in the same way as in the case of alt tags in ranking pages in SERPs for relevant searches. The text within title tags also increases the keyword relevance of your post page as in the case of alt tags.

So adding title tags is important as it helps in further optimizing your image and thus the page for search engines. Title tags are placed within the same code as alt tags. An example of an image code with the title and alt tag added is :-

The text in blue is the title tag text. You must use your main keywords and its variations as title tag text (as in the case of alt tags) - don't repeat. How to optimize your Blog posts body for search engines? - This post will guide you through the steps that will help you in optimizing your blog post body (content) for search engines such as Google, Yahoo, MSN and etc. This post will show you practical, effective, potent but simple ways that can be adopted or followed easily which will lead to each of your blog posts being optimized for the search engines. This will eventually let your optimized blog posts rank higher in different major search engine result pages and help you increase traffic to your blog significantly.

Search engine optimization of your blog posts are very important as this will give you more search engine traffic which is of course free and well targeted - this is very important if you are aiming at monetizing your blog. This is because a visitor that comes from search engines to your blog has come through searching for some information with the help of some keywords - this means he is in need of information on that topic - so he is a targeted visitor and this will help in selling relevant affiliate products to him or he may also generate some revenue to you through some contextual ads (adsense, bidvertiser) that you may have placed on your blog. A targeted visitor from search engines is also more likely to subscribe to your blog if he likes its content - so also more permanent visitors.

1. Know The Keywords - I hope you have already researched the keywords for which you are going to optimize your post - if not then go to Google AdWords Keywords Tool and put some relevant keywords on the topic on which you are going to write the post in the box provided in the page and press enter. You will be given the search volume of different combinations and the synonyms of the keywords you have mentioned. Look for ones with neither too low or too high search volume because this is a single post and just try to aim at search terms with moderate search volume - even a few hundred will do well.

Now that you have known the search volume for the general search terms and chosen some from them to target with this post - next you would have to know the search volume of the exact terms that are searched with. For this you need to choose the "Exact" option from the drop down menu present on the upper right hand top corner of the keywords result table. Note down the relevant ones with their search volume that you would like to target. Its better to target only one exact phrase with each post as you can always write another post with the other exact search phrases later. Moreover targeting one Exact phrase at a time will let you place the exact phrase in the title of your post - giving it maximum SEO value . You must have noticed when you search for a particular phrase say for example "How to make money online blogging?" then normally the pages with this exact phrase as their page title are placed at the topmost position in the search result pages and then the other combinations later.

2. Use The Chosen Keywords Wisely - Use the exact keyword phrase and the relevant keywords for which you want to optimize your post wisely. I am saying wisely because I have seen many just stuffing their posts with keywords which does not have any meaning and will eventually lead to being penalised by the search engines for keyword spamming because search engines have evolved a lot and can detect these manipulation tricks very easily.

Do not worry about keyword density because keyword density has become less relevant for search engines now (as this has been misused extensively by many) and only occasional mention is enough. Remember not to use keywords in your post body unnecessarily without making any sense as because primarily you are writing for human beings who are your ultimate aim to please. Say you get traffic but the visitors do not find value in your site then will they return anymore? On the contrary meaningful content will make visitors return again and again once they find your blog useful and may be you will get some referred visitors from these satisfied visitors too.

3. Sprinkle Keywords Evenly - As I have already mentioned that keywords density have become less relevant so just sprinkle the keywords here and there a bit - but where? - which positions are important?

Mention the keywords and their combinations once or twice in the first paragraph in a way that it makes sense to your visitors. Mention the exact phrase (that you have chosen to optimize this post for) at least once in the first or second sentence of the first paragraph. This will make your post look more keyword relevant for that search phrase in the eyes of the search engines and you will be given high position in the SERPs (remember also to mention this exact search phrase in the title of your post).

Go on mentioning the keywords as and when required in the consequent paragraphs to optimize your post totally. The search engines seem to give most importance to the first 1000 words. So if your post is shorter than 1000 words then you need to mention the keywords in all the paragraphs - at least in the first and last paragraph. Mention the exact phrase once or twice in the whole body.

If your post is longer than 1000 words than mention the keywords in different combinations and also the exact phrase in the first 1000 words (approximately). After the first 1000 words do not stop using the keywords totally specially in the last two paragraphs as note I have said "the search engines "seems" to give most importance to the first 1000 words" so it is just an observation with practical experience because nobody knows what the search engines are doing - so you will be on the safe side. Moreover the search engines keep changing their search algorithm. But for the moment I think I am on the right track - at least for Google and Yahoo.

4. Bold Keywords - Bold letters are given more importance compared to regular ones because it tells the search engine more about the topic of the post as normally people bold letters to give special importance to relevant words (moreover search algorithms are programmed by human beings so they must be knowing this).

So bold the relevant keywords a few times here and there but not more than twice for each word. Also make the exact phrase (that you have mentioned in the first sentence) bold.

5. Images - Use one or two images in the post preferably in the beginning, middle and end of the post. Use "alt" tags with these images and mention the keywords within these alt tags. Keywords within alt tags are also given importance by search engines to know about the topic of the post. So these are also of significant SEO value and will help in optimizing your post for the search engines. Note - Mention the exact phrase once within the alt tag either in the image at the beginning or the middle of the post.

6. Anchor Text Of Outbound Links - Use the keywords as anchor text in the outbound links. This will increase the keyword relevance of your post and also tell the search engines that this page is an important junction linking to other pages of relevant information on the web. This will give much SEO mileage to your posts and help your post in being placed higher in SERPs for searches of relevant keywords thus giving you search engine traffic.

7. Anchor Text Of Inbound Links - Use the chosen keywords as anchor text of links to this post from other posts in your blog. Also use these keywords in anchor text of links pointing to this post that you plant in forums, blog comments, your other blogs or articles that you submit to article directories etc. These links as you know have large SEO value and will make your post much more potent for SERPs for those keywords.

For the anchor text that other bloggers use to link to your post - you can approach them and ask them politely to consider linking to your post with the keywords of your choice. Of course this depends upon the wisdom of the blogger but I have seen responses are often positive. If negative, then too you have the link which though with irrelevant anchor text but also has optimization value - an inbound link always matter.

Optimizing your blog post titles is very crucial and important if you are interested in drawing traffic may it be from search engines, blog directories or social bookmarking sites etc. Your post title is the name that you give to your post when you write a new post. It appears as a heading in bold letters (normally) above the post body when you open a post page. It gives an unique identity to a post. This post will discuss in detail - How to optimize your blog post titles?

Before explaining - how to optimize your blog post titles? let me first give you some important reasons - why you should optimize your blog post titles?. This is because I think we humans always try to reason out - why we should do a particular thing? before starting to do it. And if we get satisfactory reasons then it becomes easier for us to do that particular job. So here are the reasons :-

1. Attraction - Your post title is the first thing that a visitor reads when he opens a post page so it must be attractive and appealing as this will further encourage the reader to read the post fully.

Also in search result pages the title of the post appears on the top and generally a person who is doing the search looks through the titles to find what he is looking for before clicking the link to visit the page. So a well descriptive and good title will naturally attract a person doing a search.

Even in blog directories and social sites visitors scan the title to look for topics that may interest them before clicking on a link to visit a page.

2. SEO - This is the most important factor for which you need to optimize your blog's post titles. Search engines rank each page separately and gives heavy weightage to post titles when ranking the pages in SERPs. The keywords included in the title tells the search engines what the page is about and accordingly ranks a particular post page based on relevance. Though it is said Google ranks a page based on 200 different factors but the page title and inbound links are given the maximum importance.

We all know that search engine traffic are much more targeted compared to other sources of traffic (social sites etc) so they are very important when monetizing your blog.

Steps To Optimize Blog Post Title - Here are the steps that you need to follow to optimize your post titles :-

1. Keyword research - Do proper keywords research before starting to write a post and find out the relevant keywords that are searched the most. You obviously need to use a tool for this purpose and the best tool for this purpose is Google Adwords Keywords Tool (free). It is a web-based tool and you just need to type in some relevant keywords into the box provided and click to get keyword ideas. Keep the "Synonyms" box checked. It will give you the search volume of the relevant keywords and their different combinations and synonyms. You can also get the search volumes for the exact words that are searched by selecting the "Exact" option from the drop down menu of "Match Type" situated at the right hand top corner of the table.

2. Utilising the keywords - Put the keywords within the first four or five words of the title to get maximum SEO value as search engines reads from left to right as we humans do. The more the keywords are to the right less is the importance that they get. Also remember that search engines generally takes about sixty characters of the post title into account and discards the rest.

So keep the keywords for which you want to optimise that particular post within the first 4 or 5 words like for example if you want to optimize a post for the keywords "Promote Affiliate Products" then the title "Ten killer strategies to help you promote Affiliate Products" is a bad example in terms of SEO as the keywords are to the extreme right. Whereas the title - "Promote Affiliate Products - Ten killer strategies" will be a good example in terms of SEO.

Also in terms of attraction - putting keywords to the left of titles would naturally tell people about the topic of the post at a glance.

There are many ways to bring traffic to your blog like search engines, social sites, forums, commenting on other blogs, blog directories, guest blogging, advertising - just to name a few. But this post will fully concentrate on - Ways to increase Blog traffic from Search Engines?. I will discuss in detail - How to increase traffic to your blog from search engines?

To get traffic from search engines only one thing is needed that is - proper and efficient SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION (SEO). We know that SEO means to make your blog more search engine friendly and relevant for keywords that you want to optimize your blog for. Now this is a multi-step process that is optimization is to be done at every step from the beginning and is to be continued. I have discussed each of the steps in a concise manner to bring out the real goal of each step. Just think of any topic and put the keywords related to the topic in the search box and press enter - you will be given the search volumes. Try to include one or two of the main keywords related to your blog topic in your URL as this has much SEO value if you want to rank higher in SERPS. Though this depends on the availability but you can always apply some tricks like say you can add some numbers or hyphens in your URL and try out different combinations of the keywords you want to keep to get an optimized URL. Optimize Your Blog Title - Blog title is the name of your blog - like the name of my blog is "Online Money Making". Try to include keywords related to the topic of your blog in the title. You can choose any keywords as there are no condition of availability in this case as was in the case of choosing the URL. This is of much SEO value and will help you in your rankings in SERPS so that you can gain traffic from search engines. Optimize Blog Post Titles - Google and all other search engines rank each page separately. So optimize each of the blog post titles with the keywords that you are trying to target with that particular blog post. You can again take help from Google adwords keyword tool to get search volume for the keywords you are targeting and also to get ideas for different combinations possible. Try to include keywords in the first few words itself as it will give better optimization to your post title. Also do not just include keywords but also make the title meaningful because ultimately your posts will be read by humans. So strike a balance between using keywords and giving meaning to your title so that you can get search engine traffic through SEO and also make the visitors read your post by making a meaningful post title.

Optimize The Post Body - Spread the keywords that you want to optimize your post for evenly in the post body. Mention the keywords specially in the first and last paragraph. Use Google Adwords Keywords tool to find the exact terms which are searched by selecting the "Exact" option from the drop-down menu on the right hand top of the tool. Mention these exact terms in the same sequence that they are searched a few times in the body. But never ever over-do this as search engines may penalise your post for keyword spamming - use keywords only when required and makes sense to avoid this.

Make your keywords bold once or twice(max) for proper search engine optimization to increase traffic. Also use two or three images in your posts with different combinations of keywords in the alt tags - this will help in search engines ranking your post higher in SERPS for those keywords.

Links - This is the one most important and most potent factor in making your blog and your posts search engine friendly. Links are mainly of two types :-

1. Outgoing Links - These are links that go out from a page of your blog. These links can be 'Internal' that is pointing to other pages in your blog OR 'External' that is pointing to other sites or blogs. Whatever be the case use keywords that are relevant to that particular post page as anchor text . So only link to relevant pages that will help you in using keywords that matches the topic of the post on that page. This will increase the keyword relevance of that post page and also tell the search engines that this page links to many other sources of relevant information thus giving your post maximum SEO value and help in increasing your rankings in SERPS - this in turn will increase traffic to your blog/website.

2. Inbound Links - These are links pointing towards a post page or home page of your blog. These links can be 'Internal' that is coming from other pages within your blog or website OR 'External' that is coming from other blogs or websites. These links have the maximum SEO value and can literally outweigh every other factor in terms of ranking in SERPS. Each link is like a vote of trust and use of proper anchor text tells the search engine about the topic of your post or blog.

So try to use keywords that are relevant to the topic of the page for anchor text of links coming from other pages within your blog. As anchor text of links coming from other blogs or sites are out of your control so you would have to depend on the wisdom of the blog or site owners of what anchor text they use for the links. But there is one way to get favourable anchor text - when you analyse your external links with the help of webmaster tools find out a way to contact the owner of the blog or site (email or contact form) from where links are coming and then approach him politely if he would consider changing the anchor text to your chosen one - in most cases this works.

There are also inbound external links that you must have planted yourself in social sites, forums, blog comments in other blogs, blog directories, article directories, your other blogs etc - here you can obviously have anchor texts of your choice so utilise them wisely - I hope you have understood.

One more important point to remember is that the number of inbound links must be more than the number of outbound links (more the difference the better) for optimum SEO.

Labels/Tags Widget - Tag or label your posts with keywords and also let the keywords appear in the sidebar by installing the Labels or Tags or Categories widget/gadget. This will give greater keyword relevance to your posts and better SEO.

Related Posts Widget - Install the related posts widget or gadget as this will also help in increasing the keyword relevance of your posts and thus help in SEO. This will help in placing your posts higher in SERPS thus increasing traffic to your blog from search engines.

Affiliate Marketing is a very prosperous field but it to has its own concerns that are to be addressed properly before beginning your journey. In this post I have made a list of all the advantages(pros.) and disadvantages(cons.) that are associated with Affiliate Marketing. So go through them and determine for yourself if Affiliate Marketing is your kind of game or not.

FIRST THE PROS. (ADVANTAGES)

1. No Start-UP Costs - There is absolutely no start-up costs required in starting affiliate marketing - not even a penny. 2. Wide Range Of Products - You have a wide variety of products to choose from - physical or digital or services. In fact you have products to promote as affiliates virtually in any niche or category you can dream or think of. Normally you as an affiliate can earn commission when the person whom you have referred buys a product or service. But its interesting to note that you can also earn commission just for referring people to a site for free sign-ups or free downloads. The choice is really endless.

3. Many Networks and Companies - You can choose affiliate products from affiliate networks after signing up for free or you can choose to promote a particular company or its products by signing up directly as an affiliate with the company. This post is a follow up of my previous post - How to make money online promoting affiliate products? in which I have shown many other ways to promote affiliate products. This post will specially concentrate on ways to promote affiliate products with a blog.

As you know that - you as an affiliate marketer can only make money when you get a sell but as I have mentioned earlier that you can only pre-sell that is recommend a product and selling is the work of the merchant website whose product you are promoting. I have also reasoned that we human beings give much more value to recommendations coming from known persons rather than unknown salesmen. And a blog gives you the opportunity to connect with your readers and building a relationship of faith and bonding which will be your main advantage if you have a blog.

But before starting to promote affiliate links on your blog please give your blog some time to grow, some time to build that most wanted connection and bonding without which you will not be able to promote your affiliate products. Write valuable, well researched, unique and practical content with which your readers will be able to connect themselves. Understand your niche and your audience and spend some time researching what they need or will like to read and then write your posts accordingly. This will build up your audience and a good and faithful relation with them overtime.

We human beings by nature wants to be on the receiving end rather than on the giving end. So first give your visitors what they want or even more if possible. These banners go very well with blogs as they do not interfere with the post body but on the other hand are very effective and appealing.

There are all sizes of banners available and you will get them from the merchant site whose product you are promoting. You will also find all necessary information to use these banners on the merchant site. But if you have any doubt you can always contact the merchant and you will always find them more than eager to help you out.

Also remember to check if you have your affiliate code (tracking code) attached with the affiliate banner before putting it on your blog. And after you have put the banner on your blog take the cursor on the banner and see if your tracking code is shown in the task bar. Now finally click on the banner to see if it is working properly. And you are done.

2. Text Ad - Prepare small text ads with an attractive title and a short description of one or two lines about the product placed below the title. Link the title with your affiliate code. You can add symbols to the title to attract attention. All relevant information and help is easily available on the merchant site as I have mentioned for banner ads. Also check these ads as you have checked the banner ads above.

3. In Content - You can also promote your affiliate products in your content by occasionally recommending your affiliate products where relevant and required - remember when required and relevant only. Never ever over do it. Rather keep this type of promotion as low as possible and only promote a product if you think and know that it will be of real benefit to your readers - so make genuine and relevant promotion only. This is important to remember as the promoting of a single irrelevant product just for the sake of promotion may break your readers faith upon you - think of long term benefits rather then short term benefits.

Remember to include your affiliate link and check it properly as mentioned above to get your share properly.

4. Reviews - You can occasionally write review posts on a particular affiliate product you are promoting. This process also works well. But be double cautious about choosing products to write reviews on due to the faith and long term benefit factor as mentioned in point3. Also check your link as mentioned above points.

5. Recommended Products - You can also put up a recommended product section and put it in the sidebar or footer section. Be cautious in selecting products as done in the above sections and also check the links.

2. Choose Affiliate Products - After you have chosen the affiliate networks to work with now its turn to choose some affiliate products to promote. This is where you would have to be extra cautious as a few factors are to be taken care of when choosing the affiliate products. 3. Promote Your Affiliate Links - After you have chosen your affiliate products you will be provided with tracking links (also called affiliate links) that you will have to promote. Here starts your main work or rather hard work. There are many ways through which you can promote your affiliate links, some of these ways are free and for some you would have to spend some money. Here I have listed a few of both free and paid ways of promoting your affiliate product links :-

SOME ADVICE - When a person starts a business he must first educate himself about the different aspects of the business so that he can succeed and run the business smoothly or else he may run the risk of failing and losing both money (capital) and his precious time (Time and tide waits for none). So in the same way in affiliate marketing too there is a need for educating yourself (specially so if you are a newbie in this field) about the different aspects like choosing affiliate products, choosing affiliate networks, promotion, pre-selling and etc so that you can succeed in this field.

Remember competition is really tough and proper education will at least keep you in an advantageous position by preventing you from going haywire. You can educate yourself through different sources that are available online like :-

All bloggers obviously want one thing in common - they all want there visitors to stay longer on their blog that is they want their blog to be sticky . All blogs have some tracking code installed which bloggers quiet often check to find out different information like checking the time spent by visitors on their blog (and also traffic volume, number of visits on particular pages, traffic sources, time spent on the site, returning visitors, new visitors, traffic location etc) because this is very crucial to serious bloggers specially for those who want to make money from their blogs.

All bloggers know it very well that visitors are the "Life Line" for any blog - a blog without visitors is just a dead blog. The time a visitor spends on your blog is as important as the number of visitors. More the number of visitors and more their time spent on your blog more will be your chances of earning revenue from your blog. For this you would have to transform your blog into a 'Giant Magnet' which will pull visitors and keep them hooked to your blog for longer time - in other words you would have to make your blog sticky.

In this post I will share with you some of the strategies or steps adopted by the famous bloggers to make their blog sticky. You will get real practical information minus the hype. Apply as many as possible to your blog and make it a success. This will be a long post as I have tried to explain each point so go get yourself a drink (hard/soft/hot - its your choice!) and start reading .....

1. Post Title - Make your post titles interesting, unique and attractive. This will initiate an urge in the visitors mind to read the post further and subsequently if he likes the post too - it will create a lasting impression and he may get interested in reading some more of your posts or even bookmark your site to return later to read some more posts or to check out your new post - thus making him stick to your blog. All this can start with a magnetic title only. Titles must be like pieces of very strong magnets that will pull visitors.

Post title is the part we all read in search engine results to select which page to visit. Post title also plays a crucial part in drawing visitors from social sites or from blog directories to your blog. Read my next post which will give you some interesting templates to write a sticky and magnetic post title.

2. Good Content - Considering that you can write real sticky post titles which draws a lot of visitors from search engines, social sites or blog directories etc what if they find no matter or poorly written content in your post - they will never come back again to your blog and may be you will loose these visitors for ever because next time they see one more sticky post title that draws them towards it but then finds out its the same site again then they will just take a u-turn (remembering their past experience). On the other hand if your post titles are sticky and the post also has considerable good content then the reverse may happen.

Even sometimes the post title may not be great but a visitor may start reading the post because it has something he wants to know - in this case too a good and well written content may encourage him to read more posts or come back again. Its rightly said that "Content Is King".

3. Update Frequently - Visitors expect blogs to be updated frequently. So update your blog with unique good content as frequently as possible (if possible daily) so that you always have something new to offer to a visitor each time he visits your blog. Some blogs update with even three to four posts per day.

Say a visitor reaches your blog for the first time and finds it interesting then surely he is going to return to your blog - now if he finds nothing new to read the next time he returns and this happens quiet a few number of times then it will certainly create a bad impression. As a result slowly his visits would get less frequent and soon die off. On the other hand if a visitor finds new valuable posts each time he returns then he is surely going to return again and again.

4. Blog Design - First impression matters and this is where a good blog design can steal the show. A well designed blog gives the unique feeling of comfort to many visitors and instigates an urge in them to hang on and find out what the blog is offering whereas a clumsy and ill-designed blog may start a feeling of uneasiness in the visitor's mind and he may quit. This is something like - whenever we meet a new person for the first time we all like to talk to or get interested in knowing about a well dressed and smart person and avoid dirty clumsy persons no matter what qualities they have. So get your blog a neat and attractive design which will give your visitors one more reason to stick to your blog.

5. Easy Navigation - Make navigation easy within your blog by providing a navigation menu bar, topics section, archives section or important posts section in prominent locations so that a visitor may be able to reach any page of your blog with one or two clicks max. A complex navigation may annoy a visitor and he may leave for ever. An easy navigation on the other hand gives easy access to different section and posts helping in keeping the visitor longer.

6. Topics / Categories Section - Have a topics /categories section based on the labels(tags) of your posts and place it in a proper location - this will help the visitors in finding more posts on the topic that interests him thus he will stay longer.

7. Related Posts - Install a related posts gadget or widget and show some related posts that may be of interest to the visitor after he has finished reading a post. This is an effective technique and visitors tend to read some more posts that interests him from this section so he stays longer.

8. Your Best - Show your best posts at a prominent place in the sidebar under the heading "My Best" or "My Best Creation" etc. A visitor who reads a post and gets impressed by it is more likely to show interest in your bests. Remember to put posts that you think are unique and are worth mentioning as your best creation. keep listings not more than 10.

9. Visitor's Choice - Show posts which your visitors have read and liked the most with the heading "Visitors Choice" and place the section at a prominent location in the sidebar so that it does not escape the eyes of a visitor. This will help you in holding your readers longer as generally a visitor seem to give more importance to posts which his co-visitors have preferred.

You may instead name the section "Visitors Choice Last Month" and place posts that were liked most by visitors last month. This will help in keeping this section refreshed as at least some of the listings will have to be changed. And this will also help in holding back your returning visitors who will now find new listings each month and will try to relate themselves with the listings. Keep listings not more than 10.

10. Upcoming Posts - Show your upcoming posts on your blog in the sidebar or below posts or in any other easily visible spot under the heading "Upcoming Posts" or "Soon To Come" etc . This will draw your visitors and instigate them to return again and again or subscribe to your blog. So always try to be innovative and write unique posts that may interest your visitors. This section requires a bit of pre-planned approach.

11. Recent Posts - Show your recent posts in the sidebar to offer more choice to the readers so that they can hang on longer.

12. Comment Section - Provide a comment section at the end of each post and encourage readers to leave a comment about your blog or post. You may also encourage them to ask questions or give suggestions through the comments section. This will make your readers interact with you and form a bond which will last longer making him visit your blog often - we all love a friendly atmosphere.

13. Answer Comments - Remember to answer any questions that are asked or appreciate any comment or suggestion made through the comments section. You can answer comments by posting further comments or occasionally writing posts on common comments. Make the visitors feel that they are important - we all love to get importance from others. This will get you more comments and many loyal visitors gradually who will love to spend time on your blog and also advertise for you.

14. Add Video - Adding some video posts is a good alternative of written posts and also adds a different flavour to your blog. It also helps in changing the mood of your visitors who may have got bored reading written posts regularly. Some people also like watching videos instead of reading posts. You can add your own video posts if you can make them or you can add some video from YouTube. You can also add some funny videos occasionally to have a change.

15. About Page - Add a decent 'About Me' page to your blog. Tell something about yourself (if possible make it interesting but do not bluff) and also say something about the goals that you want to achieve with your blog. Be polite in whatever you write but sound confident. You can also add some of your own and family photographs and video to this page. The more people will know about you the more they will be able to connect with you - the more they are able to relate with you more will they believe you and become your followers.

16. Add A Poll - Add an interesting poll to your blog on topics that are relevant and may be of mutual benefit. This will engage readers and make them attached to your blog which will keep them longer. Try also changing the polls (weekly or monthly) so that returning visitors can interact.

You can add a pole asking what type of posts they would like to see on your blog and provide some relevant options attached to your niche. You can add a pole asking how can you make your blog more interactive, attractive and helpful by providing some relevant options. You can think of many such polls and apply them to your blog to engage your readers longer.

17. RSS - Keep the RSS subscription option at a prominent position so that interested visitors can find it easily and subscribe to your blog. This will allow you to reach your readers more efficiently. You can allow full feed but if you want your subscribers to read posts by visiting your blog then do not allow full feed (I hope you understand this can have both positive and negative effects so apply caution). I prefer allowing full feed. It is also seen that RSS subscribers quiet often goes to the blog to read posts rather reading them in RSS readers.

18. Keep Email Subscription Option - Some readers prefer to read posts via email so you must keep arrangements for them too.

19. Social Media Sites - Provide links to social media sites like Digg, StumbleUpon, Facebook, Twitter etc so that your visitors can share your posts if they like it with their friends which would get you more worthy visitors (because reference always have a positive effect) besides making the visitor stay longer.

20. Personal Touch - Add a personal touch to your blog. This can be done by putting your photograph in the header or somewhere else (you can change the photo often), put some photos of you and your family in the 'about me' page and in your profile, write in a direct addressing tone, occasionally put some stats showing your visitor count or revenue etc, try to write posts connecting them with your personal experience and etc etc. This will give blog a personal touch and make it look more human than just some collection of content. Because we humans by nature prefer getting connected to other humans.

21. Offer Some Gifts - Offer the visitors some gifts specially e-books that might be of interest to them. If you want you can also get RSS or Email subscriptions in return (as is usually done by bloggers) or just offer them as gifts. The e-books can be your own (better) or written by somebody else but which you think will be of great value to you visitors. Change the e-books offered occasionally so that your visitors can get more gifts from you. This will make them return again and again.

22. Quotes - You can add a quotes widget and add some famous quotes which will give food for thought and inspiration to your visitors. This will also keep your readers engaged.

23. Check Your Stats - You must have installed some tracking code like Google Analytics, Sitemeter or Feedjit etc in your blog. Check your stats often and find which posts or which type of posts receive the most visits. Try to add updates to those posts and write more posts on topics that your visitors seem to be more interested in. This will keep your visitors for longer as they will get more of the kind that they love.

24. Deep linking - Try linking to other posts from all your posts - this is called deep linking. This will present visitors with options of seeing more posts related to the post they are reading. This is a very effective technique and works wonders in engaging readers in blogs for longer time. This also gives you the option of bringing forward the old classics written by you.

25. Write Timeless Content - Timeless content has timeless appeal making them worthy of visits by readers. Often it is seen that old good and valuable posts are discarded by visitors as stale after they see the time stamp. So you may consider removing the time stamp from your posts to nullify the stale effect. This will helping in engaging visitors with the old timeless classics that you have already created and know that visitors value these.

26. Controversial Posts - Try writing some posts that you think can arise controversy and then just sit down and add occasional fuel to the fire to carry on the debate longer (I hope you understand what I mean).

27. Proof - If your have a decent number of RSS subscribers, Email Subscribers, MyBlogLog followers or Twitter followers etc then show the stats on your blog. You can also show your stats of increasing visitors and revenue in some monthly posts. This has an enticing effect and visitor confidence on you and your blog builds up making them spend more time on your blog and returning frequently.

28. Archives - Show your "Archives" as visitors seem to go to archives section when they like a blog to mine for some more classic posts written by you. Instead of showing of "Archives" in the sidebar consider building a separate archives page where all your previous posts are arranged according to datestamp and also according to categories(with datestamp) and provide a link to the page in the sidebar above the fold - a small link will also help in saving a lot of space of your sidebar. This type of separate archives page gives a better user experience.

29. Contest - Hold a contest for you blog visitors ocassionally as this lets you connect with your visitors in a more practical way. Announce a worthy and useful gift for the winner and see the effect. You will also get more visitors as your previous visitors will refer their friends. Some of these visitors will surely stick to your blog even after the contest is over if you have a good blog offering them food for thought. You can also attach a clause of subscribing to your blog as a precondition for taking part in the contest.

30. Contact Form - Provide a contact form so that the readers can contact you if they want. Respond to their queries and help them if they ask - take them into confidence. This will real make them like you and your blog. In return you will get some good friends and loyal readers who will support you in making your blog a success.

31. Messages - You can send ocassional messages to your email subscribers informing them of your future posts or what you are planning to do next - you can also ask for their opinion on certain matters - just make them feel important and see the magic. You can also do this by sending Tweets to your Twitter followers.

WHAT IS ANCHOR TEXT?

Anchor Text is the text or rather clickable text that is used to link to a particular page on the Internet. (It can be a single letter, a single word, a group of words, a number or even a symbol.) This post is for the newbies who do not have a clear idea about an Anchor Text. I have made an attempt to explain it in as clear way as possible - what is the meaning of Anchor text?, why to use an Anchor Text? and how to choose an Anchor Text?

Examples of Anchor Text - Make Money Online, M, %, Choose The Right Blogging platform, Craigslist . All these Anchor Texts leads to different pages on my blog, you can click one to see.

Here are a few things that will help you in finding an Anchor text in a web page :-

An Anchor Text changes the normal cursor sign of an "arrow" to a "hand" sign prompting you to click when the cursor arrow is taken over it.
An Anchor Text opens a new page either in the same window or in a different window when clicked.
An Anchor Text shows the page URL to which it is linking in the Task Bar when the cursor is taken over it.
An Anchor Text is generally of a different colour then the surrounding text.
An Anchor Text changes its colour when you take the cursor above it - this is also called the "mouseover effect".
An Anchor Text sometimes is also underlined besides having a different colour.
An Anchor Text may also be of the same colour as the surrounding text but may change colour or get underlined or show both effects when the cursor is taken over it.

A HTML code is used to turn an Anchor Text into a link. An example of Anchor Text with the HTMl code is given below :-

The text in red is the Anchor Text and the rest is the code which is pointing to my home page. This is the basic code but there can be other attributes added inside the code like rel="nofollow"(used to stop search engines from following the link) or target="_blank" (used to open the link in a new window) depending on the purpose.

Why To USE Anchor Text?

You can ask the obvious question that - Why to use Anchor Text? - so here are the purposes an anchor text serves :-

An Anchor Text appears much more suited to the surrounding text then the URL which looks rather odd.
An Anchor Text also has a better ability to expresses the subject of the page to which it is linking to in a short and comprehensive manner if used properly.
The most important purpose that an Anchor Text Serves is that it tells the Search Engines what the page is all about to which it is linking and this has great SEO value - that is this helps greatly in improving positions in SERPs(Search Engine Result Pages). It helps in off page optimization of the page for a particular keyword phrase for which you are trying to rank well in SERPs.

How To Choose The Anchor Text?

As already stated that the major purpose of an Anchor Text is that it tells the Search Engines in its own language what is the topic of the page to which it is linking thus it has great SEO value so proper care is to taken in choosing the Anchor Text of a link.

In fact it is one great thing in off page optimization techniques that is to be taken care of while linking your pages may it be with internal or external links.

Choose the keyword phrase for which you want to optimize or rank well in SERPs as your Anchor Text. Say for example - you want to optimize a particular post for the keyword phrase "blogging tips" then choose "blogging tips" (and its variations) as your Anchor Text for the links pointing to that page - simple!

You have seen in the above paragraph I have asked also to use variations of the Anchor Text - you may ask why? Let me explain:- Links to a page can come in basically two ways - the first is through organic ways that is when somebody likes your blog or a particular post in your blog he puts a link in his blog pointing to your blog or to that post using an Anchor Text of his choice so these links contain a variation of Anchor Text which can not be manipulated and are considered as natural - and the second way to get links is by adopting various means (topic of discussion of a different post coming soon) like leaving blog comments, leaving forum comments and etc whose Anchor Text can be manipulated to contain the keywords of our choice. Now if you make too many links with the same Anchor Text then Google and also many other search engines can detect and considers links with the same Anchor Text from multiple sources as spam and being made by humans to manipulate search engine results artificially so penalises those sites. So making links with the Anchor Text as variations of the keywords you want to optimize your blog for will just make the links look natural to search engines and you will escape the penalty.
