Here is some good news for the children who are going to celebrate the forthcoming Christmas. The Vonage America has made a special announcement for them. The VoIP service provider will enable the kids to hear the voice of Santa Claus and allow them to leave messages for the holidays. The offer would be available throughout the Christmas season. The Children simple need to dial 1-(700) CALLSANTA 1-(700-225-5726) from a Vonage line and hear a recording from Santa Claus. After the prerecorded message, they can express him what they want for Christmas. The messages addressed to Santa will be forwarded to their parents via e-mail. The parents can learn what their children want for Christmas while shopping. Cheer up Kids.

It’s seek and hide game in the VoIP market. With Skype’s peer-to-peer protocol continues to traverse firewalls and gets into corporate networking, the security experts are at work to come up their latest versions of VoIP blockers to disturb Skype. This is what we are witnessing in these days. Take for instance the Germany company ipoque that pioneers in application and user aware traffic management and analysis system. The company has updated versions of its VoIP blocker tool to deal with Skype latest 3.0 version. Skype has released Skype 3.0 in beta on November 9 this year. Consequently, the German company has updated its Skype blocker tool to answer the latest version. Klaus Deger, Chief Software architect of ipoque said, Changes in the Skype 3.0 client probably have been made as an answer to detection mechanisms recently implemented by various vendors …[and] the announced stable release of this new version will attract many Skype users – both in private and business environments. The company says that the updated tool is the most effective solution for the corporate world to block the peer-to-peer file sharing programs, instant messaging applications and VoIP traffic including Skype.

VoIP is shinning but the service providers are waning. This is the latest trend, which has come into being in the VoIP market. The MyVoIPProvider report has led us to believe it so strongly. In the last 15 months, nearly 85 service providers have left the market owing to heavy loss. However, VoIP market is still growing. So the question comes, is VoIP a profitable business? I came across a Moshe Maier post in the Flatplanetphone where the writer argues that VoIP is a great business if the service providers stop customers churns. In fact, Moshe has referred Jon Arnold’s comparative analysis on Q3 results of Vonage and Telio. Let’s summarize the Vonage’s third quarter result. The company spends near about $6.86 per line on direct costs and $29.79 on subsidy of ATA. The Average Revenue per User (ARPU) is standing at $26.33. Their yearly income is $315.96 while overall cost of production including the ATA subsidy is $112.11. Thus, the gross profit is $203.85. This is possible when you keep hold of your customers or acquire new customers. Now consider Vonage. The service provider spends $1m everyday on advertising, but faces a 2.6% monthly churn. Here lies the problem. Thus, the VoIP service providers must take steps to bring down customers churns to make the business profitable.

Skype may be boastful of its millions downloads round the year, a Jupiter Research study tells a different story of this popular VoIP application. In its latest report ‘Skype and VoIP-Quantifying the Hype in the UK’, Jupiter Research claims only four percent of VoIP customers regularly use Skype services. Most of them are young users. Skype’s owner eBay is now facing a major challenge in the UK market as several ISPs have existing telephony services that they want to defend, it adds. The report makes a surprising revelation regarding the state of UK VoIP while saying only 12 percent of UK customers use VoIP services on a regular basis. However, the report concludes with a positive note for Skype. It asserts that the popular peer-to-peer VoIP application would attract more and more customers with the growth of WiFi mobile VoIP phones that do not require PCs.

Deadly days are in store for VoIP as the hackers are coming up with most advanced programs to disrupt the IP-based services next year, MessageLabs, one of the largest security firms has warned the millions of online phone users and IM service users worldwide. The security firm acknowledged, 2007 will see VoIP become a prime target for phishing attacks whereby spoof phone calls are made to victims to extract their credit card details or steal their identity using third party software. The hackers have adopted a converged approach (email, websites and instant messaging (IM) programs) to target the users this year, the security firm explained. IM is heading towards a serious security threat next year, it added. Explaining Email spam to proliferate, the MessageLabs said, [Image] spam will become much more prevalent, due to the inability of traditional spam filter software to detect minute changes in the image email. Is VoIP revolution at its budding stage? After all, the technology has come a long way to dominate the mainstream. However, it is not all what we except from VoIP. This technology has just crossed the halfway.

Taking an initiative to further strength its IP-based programs, the enterprise software giant Oracle Corporation has selected Plantronics to make use of Voyager 510-USB Bluetooth headset system to optimize VoIP communication and provide hands-free efficiency to its global workforce. By using the Plantronics Voyage 510-USB headset system that comes with VoIP-supported laptop and mobile phone, the Oracle staffs now have a single wireless headset to use across multiple applications. For instance, the headset system enables the employees to use voice commands to log into Oracle Collaboration Suite, access calendar items, address book contacts and draft new e-mails. In this way, Oracle can improve efficiency through faster communications. Mark Sunday, CIO and Senior Vice President at Oracle says, We evaluated numerous headset offerings to complement Oracle’s VoIP deployment, and the Plantronics Voyager 510-USB is clearly ahead of the pack for audio performance, ease of use and style and comfort. Broadly speaking the Voyager 510-USB has following advantages: 1.Clear Conversation 2.Flexibility 3.Efficiency 4.Simplicity 5.Comfort

TalkSwitch, a global leader in manufacturing innovative telephone systems for business enterprises has announced the addition of two new hybrid IP PBX’s to PBX product line. These are TalkSwitch 280VS and 284VS. The latest additions would accommodate two incoming telephone lines and provide eight local extensions that the user can configure as IP or analog. In addition, they provide ten remote extensions. The 284VS also supports VoIP as it has four VoIP trunks, while TalkSwitch 280VS cannot support VoIP without the use of a gateway. Briefing the features of these two hybrid IP PBXs, Jan Scheeren, CEO of TalkSwitch elaborated, These new systems nicely augment the existing family of TalkSwitch telephone systems. They use only two incoming phone lines, helping customers reduce monthly expenses, while still providing the rich features and customer-friendly design that characterize all TalkSwitch systems. And we have made them available at a price that is unprecedented for a fully hybrid IP PBX. The new products provide reliable solutions for the small businesses and residential VoIP users by brining all the important features for a lower price. They are part of the TalkSwitch software version 4.0 that features E-mail notification of new voicemail messages, sending the voicemail as a .wav file for playback and a programmable holiday mode scheduler with unique call handling settings for specific dates.
