WELCOME TO MY BLOG!

Hi there and welcome to my blog. I´m Marcelo from Argentina, 25 years old (just for a few months). I play the piano since I was 6. I took classes of piano when I was a child but then I cotinue playing and learning by myself (I do the same with my English).

I created this blog to share my work, covers, own songs, tutorials, sheets and to know people around the world. I expect to form a piano community where we can help each other.

The Real Book can refer to any of a number of popular jazz fake books, but is generally used to refer to Volume 1 of a semi-underground series transcribed and collated by students at Berklee College of Music during the 1970s.
The Real Book has become an indispensable resource for all aspiring and current jazz musicians.[citation needed] Musicians find it convenient to work from "the book", because it is available in different editions to suit B♭, E♭, and C (concert-pitch) instruments, as well as a bass clef edition. A band leader can literally call out page numbers, since each edition is also paginated identically.

Choosing your first Keyboard/Piano (PART I)

First steps:

Ok, so you started to play the piano some weeks ago, now you dont have doubts about it, Piano is the best instrument ever. what's the next step? Of course... time to buy your first piano/keyboard. But, be careful, you cant buy the first thing you see on eBay, be patient, take your time and get the best for your needs.

The piano for me is.....I cant describe it with words. The only thing I can say is that, when I see a piano, I mean a regular a piano (not a keyboard, not a sinthetyzer, not an electric piano), I just want to play it. When I see a grand piano in fancy hotels and restaurants I'm always tempted to play and is awful to discover that the Steinway that is standing there alone, is just a part of the decoration. All pianists want a piano, that is a fact, they are a couple, oposite poles. But the thing is that sometimes a piano wouldnt be our best choice. It sounds incredible, but is true. In my case, I would kill to have a regular piano in my house, but I just cant. Read the following to make your choice.

FAQ:

- I'm not shure about playing piano? Should I buy a cheap one to start playing?

- NOOOOO, this is a big and usual mistake. If you are not shure about playing the piano don't spend your money in something that wont let you doubts about it. If you buy a cheap piano/keyboard, the sound won't be good, the feeling won't be good and you probably will have the ugliest first experience with one of the most beautiful instruments ever created. If an expert can't get a good sound with a cheap instrument, what could you get? Always think in mid/high quality instruments. Other way, you proably will be disencouraged in short term. That is a fact. Any good teacher will say the same as I.

- Should I buy a piano, an electric piano a synthesizer or a keyboard?

- This is an easy issue, if you can answer the following questions:

a) Do you have room in your house for a piano?

- As you probably know, a piano is a really big thing, there are plenty of models, you have vertical pianos, grand pianos, etc. The vertical pianos can be very useful for common players. Their design lets them fit in small spaces, but they still need more space than the keboards. if you dont have enough space for it you are done. Forget about it or move to a bigger house. Simple as that! If you still want to play a piano without moving, your best choice would be an electric piano, then we will talk about models and stuff.

b) Do you know what kind of music do you want to play? If yes, what kind?

- This is a central question. I would say, the most important. There is an instrument for every kind of music so is very importan for you to have a clever idea of what are you going to play with it. If you like blues your choice should be a piano or a basic electric piano. If you want to play pop or techno, a keyboard or a Synthesizer should be your best choice. If you like all styles you probably will find useful a complete electric piano. This kind are between the classic electric pianos and the keyboards, they have the hammer system and they also have some cool sounds and editing tools. In other posts I will write more about this.

c) How much do you want to spend?

- You can buy an instrument with any budget, but in certain circumstances, some instruments are more useful than others. If you have a limited budget you probably dont want to spend it on a piano. You probably will find an old detuned piano for your money but it probably would be your most expensive buy. They are usually in terrible conditions, and you have to spend a lot of money repairing, tuning, etc to have a mid quality sound.

In the other hand you can buy a mid quality electric piano, with average sound for much less than a piano. Do some research, you will find your best choice.

d) Are you planning to play with a band?

If you are planning to play with a band discard the piano, you probably want to practice with your friends and you know how annoying could be for your wife/family to always meet with the band in your house because you cant transport your piano. Buy a keyboard or an electric piano. If you can both, that would be perfection.

e) Do you have crazy/sensible neighbors?

Nothing to add to this. You cant plug earphones to a regular piano, could you?

f) Do you have a good luthier in your town/city?

This is essential. If you dont have a luthier in your town, I mean A GOOD ONE, don't bother in buying a piano that wont sound like it should. It could be really frustrating to play in a detuned piano.

g) Are you planning to do some edition and cool new sounds with a computer?

If yes, think about buying a keyboard/Synthetizer/electric piano with USB connection or MIDI connection. We should talk about this in next posts.
