Wow - it’s been a long time since I’ve posted on this blog. I admit that it got easier to just email the group sometimes than to post information on here. However, I’m trying to update our site and wanted to add some pictures of shawls we have had the privilege of giving out this year. This is by no means all of the shawls, but these are just a few that I have pictures from on my computer at the moment and I wanted to share.

I feel so blessed by all of the wonderful women who take part on this ministry. We have women of all ages taking part; some crochet and some knit; some come to meetings and some just drop off shawls; some are members of our church, some are just visitors who we love and others are just angels who send a shawl out of the blue! We love ALL of you and appreciate everything you do to help us make such a difference in the lives of those who we give shawls too!

May Meeting Dates and Times

Hey everyone! The year is going by so quickly! I just wanted to put out a quick update with dates and times of our meetings this month.

Usually our nightly meeting is on the first Tuesday of the month, but becuase of a prior commitment I’m having to move our Night Monthly meeting to Tuesday, May 11 at 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm, which is the second Tuesday of the month. We will be meeting at my house (Kelly’s House). If you need directions please email info@madewithloveuumc.com.

Our morning meeting will be held on Monday, May 17 at 10 am - noon in the UUMC Parlor.

Hi guys! Sorry for the lack of email and updates lately. I’ve been battling an upper respiratory infection and am finally starting to be on the mend.

Just a quick update for everyone on our March meeting dates and times. We hope to see many of you this month! Please think about inviting a friend or two to a meeting sometime!

February Meeting Dates

Holiday Meeting Schedule and other News!

Well, the Holiday season is quickly approaching and it seems that personal time gets shorter and shorter during this part of the year! Because of this we will be condensing our night time meetings for November and December into one. I hope that this allows everyone time with their families and time to enjoy the true meaning of the holday season - Thanksgiving and the Birth of Jesus Christ!

Below is the schedule for our meetings up to the end of the year:

Monday, November 16th we will meet in the morning from 10 am - 12 noon in the UUMC Church Parlor

Tuesday, December 1st we will meet from 6:30 - 8:30 at Kelly’s House. Please use the contact form above to ask for directions, if you need them.

Monday, December 14th we will meet in the morning from 10 am - 12 noon in the UUMC Church Parlor

We hope that many of you will be able to work these meetings into your busy schedule! We enjoy getting together with everyone and I think that it will be a nice respite for those who need a bit of down time during the holidays!

On to other news and things of interest to the group! I recently had a chance to visit with the Knitting group at First Methodist in downtown Baton Rouge. They have a wonderful, lively bunch of ladies who meet once a week on Tuesday mornings to work on shawls and other knitting projects. I’m told there are about 45 active members in this group! They were extremely welcoming and shared many prayers, patterns, and ideas with me! I learned that every summer they work on one big project together. This year their project was shawls to keep in the back of the sanctuary for people who may get cold during the worship services. I was luckily there the day that they needed a picture taken of the whole group and their Sanctuary Shawls! You can see the picture below. Thank you again, ladies, for welcoming me into your group that Tuesday! I hope that I will be able to visit again at some point in the future. If anyone in our group would be interested in visiting their group, I’m told that they always welcome guests who want to come kint, just use the contact link above to email me for more information.

October Meetings

Fall seems to upon us as; I write this post today we have what I consider to be our first real day of cool weather! I can smell true fall in the air! This is a perfect time to get involved in Made With Love! We are still working on prayer shawls, and some members are even venturing into knitting hats for cancer patients. I will have more information about that at our meetings this month if others might be interested in taking part in that as well!

Our monthly morning meeting will be this coming Monday, October 19th from 10 am - 12 noon in the Church Parlor.

Our Monthly night meeting will be on a different night than usual this month, as I have another commitment on the last Tuesday of the month. So, we will be meeting on Monday, October 26th from 6:30 - 8:30 at my house. Please email me (kelly) at info@madewithloveuumc.com if you need directions!

I look forward to seeing everyone soon! I am working on talking to our church about possibly having another prayer shawl blessing as we have a large amount of shawls that have been created since our first one that have not been blessed. I have some ideas on a different way to do this blessing, and would love to talk to the group about it at our meetings. Please let me know if you are planning on coming and if you need any yarn! Also, please let us know if you are aware of anyone that might be in need of a prayer shawl!

Just a quick reminder to everyone to check the calendar on this website if you are ever wondering when our upcoming meetings will be taking place!

This coming Monday, September 14th, is our monthly morning meeting in the church parlor from 10 am - Noon. Please come join us for fellowship and time to work on shawls or other projects you might be working on!

Our nightly meeting will be on Tuesday, September 29th, at my house from 6:30 - 8:30pm. If you are planning on coming and need directions, please email me at info@madewithloveuumc.com.

I hope that the beginning of the school year is going well for everyone! It’s exciting to have the students back at church. The congregation feels so much more full during the late summer / early fall!

So the meeting on Tuesday night was a wonderful time! I feel so blessed to be able to gather with so many wonderful ladies and work on things that make a difference in others lives, like prayer shawls! Thank you to everyone who came, and to all of those who have taken the time to be a part of this ministry, be it in giving of yarn, monetary donations, your time and talents, or just your prayers!

One of the things that we learned about on Tuesday was how to make shawls on a circular knitting loom. This is a great way for people who aren’t interested in learning to knit or crochet to get involved in making shawls. Heck, it’s easy enough that even kids as young as 5 can learn! Below is the video we watched on YouTube to learn how to do this. If you are interested in learning, please watch the video.
