<itunes:summary>LogoTalk Radio #38 Interview with Dr. Kuo Liu-Hsiu

Dr. Kuo Liu Hsiu is originally from Taiwan. She has lived and studied in Germany and completed a Doctoral degree in Music in the U.S. She plays many instruments and her music has allowed her to perform all over the world, most memorably for Mikhail Gorbachev and the Queen of Jordan. Dr. Kuo also played at the 50th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima and the 50th anniversary of the founding of Israel, as well as a Middle East peace concert. She has played to accompany poetry, dance and films. Her experience includes touring and producing CD collections for commercial release. Most recently, Dr. Kuo was a visiting professor in China during the 2007 school year. While there she started the first music therapy concerts in southwest China to assist those with trauma from the 2008 earthquake.

Dr. Kuo also played the harp during the 2011 awards ceremony of the Viktor Frankl Institute of Logotherapy (USA) where I first heard her perform live.

Lui Hsiu is the originator of the The MusicMap, a project grounded in logotherapy and which seeks to discover meaning through music. The MusicMap™© project has two goals: the first is to help people know themselves better by recalling how music has affected them throughout their lives; the second is to help the public to be aware of their sound environment and the proper use of music for wellbeing.

<itunes:summary>We have an exciting new project to start off the New Year, The Dr. Jerry Long Lecture Series.

The first lecture in the series is at Lamar University in Beaumont, TX, USA recorded in 1993.

Jerry Long is an iconic name in the history of logotherapy. Following an accident that left him paralyzed and ended his promising sports career, Jerry discovered Viktor Frankl and the book Man’s Search for Meaning. He wrote a letter to Viktor Frankl and the two soon became good friends. Jerry Long became a psychologist and logotherapist and often traveled and lectured with Viktor Frankl to audiences around the world.

Jerry Long passed away in 2002.

With the kind permission of his widow, Mrs. Renee Feagans, audio and video archives of Dr. Jerry Long have now been made available to LogoTalk Radio and will be presented throughout the year. This material has not been presented to an international audience for more than 10 years.

Mrs. Feagans was our guest on LogoTalk Radio #35.

<itunes:summary>LogoTalk Radio is pleased to have Mrs. Renee Feagans as our guest on today’s show.

During this year’s World Congress, I had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Feagans and her husband. I learned that she listens to LogoTalk Radio before the World Congresses to get herself in the mood for the conferences. Mrs. Feagans has been a guest at many of the World Congresses and has an involvement in logotherapy dating back several years.

Now happily remarried, Mrs. Feagans was previously married to Dr. Jerry Long, an iconic name in the history of logotherapy who passed away in 2002.

While recovering from an accident that left him paralyzed from the chest down, Dr. Long wrote a letter to Viktor Frankl. They soon became friends and, eventually, colleagues. Dr. Long often appeared with Dr. Frankl at events around the world. Dr. Frankl frequently spoke of Jerry Long's life as "a living testimony to logotherapy lived and the defiant power of the human spirit."

<itunes:summary>Rev. Dr. Lise Worthington, Chef and minister, trained at the Culinary Institute of America,  Hebrew Union Theological Seminary and Union Theological Seminary.  Her passion -- the love affair between food and faith -- influences not only her theology but a willingness to share the creative, spiritual and wisdom filled message:  food matters.

I met Dr. Worthington at this year’s World Congress where we both attended the advanced course in Logotherapy, Franklian Psychology:  The Theory and Therapy of Mental Disorders.  Dr. Worthington did a dramatic reading as part of the class that impressed me so much that I asked her to record it to share with our Logotalk Radio listeners.

Dr. Worthington also presented at the World Congress.  Her paper is entitled Babette’s Feast:  The Soul of a Chef – A Franklian Response to the Jungian’s Parable of Trauma.  Dr. Worthington's website is:

Batya Yaniger maintains a private practice in logotherapy and is co-trainer in the English language logotherapy training program in Israel. Batya has worked successfully with people who have for a variety of reasons, lost their sense of direction in life. She listens for values and strengths that put the person in touch with who they are and what is most important to them. Logotherapy’s assumption that every life has a purpose and every situation can be made meaningful perfectly dovetails with Jewish principles of optimism and responsibility. Batya has worked with people who struggle with issues of depression, anxiety, fears and indecisiveness, helping them to access their intuitive wisdom.
