The Lagos Book Fair (Feira do Livro) is back on August 2025 in the heart of the city of Lagos, with another edition full of books, stories, authors, traditional games, music, and plenty of fun for the whole family.

From August 2nd to the 12th, in the Praça do Infante, from 7pm to midnight, visitors can enjoy this cultural event and maybe buy a book or two :D

In addition to the sale of books and games, as every year there will be a large program of entertainment, from the presence of several authors of works dedicated to children and adults, exhibitions, a storytelling session, living statues, and much much more.

Alright, sweet tooths and culture connoisseurs, get ready for another “Arte Doce” fair in Lagos, Portugal! This annual bash, a true classic of the Algarve summer, is all about celebrating traditional regional sweets, a sprinkle of culture, and a whole lot of music, transforming the Complexo Desportivo de Lagos into a hub of joyous festivities.

Imagine a place where the air is thick with the scent of sugar and almonds hehehehehe, you know what im talking about, at Arte Doce, you can feast on emblematic Algarve sweets, watch live show cookings of treats like Dom Rodrigo and Doce Fino (they even have a session for the little ones!), and even discover international flavours with demonstrations of Ukrainian and Italian cuisine. Plus, there’s a serious competition where local confectioners battle it out for sweet supremacy across categories like “Free Theme,” “Mandatory Theme,” “Quality in Tradition,” and “Innovation Sweet.”

But it’s not just about what you can eat! Your ears are in for a treat too, with five nights of free concerts on the Palco Lagos, featuring a fantastic line-up of artists. Meanwhile, the Palco Arte Doce showcases local talent, and the Espaço + Doce offers more intimate musical vibes.

Bringing the whole family? The “Doçura ou Travessura” space is packed with workshops, bouncy castles, and engaging experiences for children. The nursing post at Praia da Luz is perfectly equipped to handle minor medical concerns, from small scrapes and sunburn to insect stings, spider fish stings and general discomfort. This convenient service means you can enjoy our beautiful beach knowing that immediate, professional care is readily available right on the beachfront.

Blue Flag: Its a international eco-label signifies high standards in environmental management, water quality, safety, and services at beaches and marinas.

Praia Acessível (Accessible Beach): This Portuguese award recognises beaches that provide excellent accessibility conditions and facilities for people with reduced mobility.

Qualidade de Ouro (Gold Quality): Awarded by the environmental association Quercus, this seal distinguishes beaches with consistently excellent bathing water quality over the preceding five years.

Quality Coast: An international certification that assesses and promotes the sustainable development of coastal tourist destinations, considering environmental, socio-economic, and cultural criteria.

Oh oh our charming town has another piece of art, this time it’s a magnificent tribute to one of Portugal’s most celebrated architects, José Veloso, in the form of a striking mural that now graces the Luztur building. This is a really nice artistic homage and recognition of an architect whose vision and creativity have left an indelible mark on Portuguese architecture.

José Veloso stands among Portugal’s most influential architects, whose work has significantly shaped the country’s modern architectural landscape. His designs seamlessly blend traditional Portuguese elements with contemporary innovation, creating structures that are both functional and aesthetically remarkable, he was also the architect of Luztur building, and although I personally think it’s not his best work, and it’s a bit of an eyesore in Praia da Luz, the building served and serves its purpose.

The mural, created by the talented artist João Domingos aka Bigod, transforms the facade of the Luztur building into a vibrant celebration of architectural excellence. Located in the heart of Praia da Luz, this artistic installation serves as both a tourist attraction and a source of local pride, embodying the town’s commitment to honouring those who have contributed to Portugal’s rich cultural heritage.

Bigod, known for creating murals that capture the essence of Portuguese culture and history, has once again demonstrated exceptional skill in bringing José Veloso’s legacy to life through art. The mural showcases intricate details that reflect both the architect’s most notable works and the unique character of the Algarve region, great job as always!
