Video: Flash on Android Is Shockingly Bad:

Lol this is sooooo much like the experience my friends got when they tried to show me flash on their devices – some even tried over 3G and there’s the fact that 80% of all interesting non-adult flash content (TV shows & Movies) is blocked outside of the US. But no matter. It was a painful lesson in patience since I had to stand there and wait and wait and wait… for nothing. Or for some really choppy video.

Yeah I do have a Nexus One but considering I rarely access flash content on my PC outside of Youtube except for some random videos like this one, I really haven’t tried it on my phone. It’s not a judgement on the quality of the experience, it’s just that I haven’t yet had the necessity though I expect it to be a frustrating experience, even if it happens next year. It won’t get any better imo.

It looks like with the rollout of Flash on Android devices, the cries for flash on the iPhone/iPad suddenly died. I really wonder how people expected flash to work properly on a phone when it has trouble working on a netbook….

(Via John Gruber / Ian Betteridge)

MPEG LA’s AVC License Will Not Charge Royalties for Internet Video That Is Free to End Users Through Life of License | Business Wire: “MPEG LA announced today that its AVC Patent Portfolio License will continue not to charge royalties for Internet Video that is free to end users (known as ‘Internet Broadcast AVC Video’) during the entire life of this License. MPEG LA previously announced it would not charge royalties for such video through December 31, 2015

(…)

MPEG LA’s AVC Patent Portfolio License provides access to essential patent rights for the AVC/H.264 (MPEG-4 Part 10) digital video coding standard. In addition to Internet Broadcast AVC Video, MPEG LA’s AVC Patent Portfolio License provides coverage for devices that decode and encode AVC video, AVC video sold to end users for a fee on a title or subscription basis and free television video services. AVC video is used in set-top boxes, media player and other personal computer software, mobile devices including telephones and mobile television receivers, Blu-ray Disc™ players and recorders, Blu-ray video optical discs, game machines, personal media player devices and still and video cameras. “

Guess they felt the WebM heat. While I guess this means H264 will become the de-facto standard, I’d rather see everyone switch to WebM.

Ahh Sunday, that day of the week when news outlets bring out whatever crap didn’t make the cut during the week in order not to work. Umm wait… it’s not Sunday yet!

63% accuracy…? 50% is a coin toss. 63% is news-worthy? Stuff like this is forcing me to consider removing Slashdot from my feeds.
