Yesterday I had a wonderful experience as I signed books at the Borders Bookstore at the SeaTac airport in Seattle Washington.  To date, this was my largest book signing.  I am pleased to say that I arrived to a case of books and when I left it was gone.

I signed books that jumped with their new owners onto planes and disbursed as far as Sweden and as close as Olympia.  how exciting it was to know that my books were heading all over the United State of America and in some instances internationally.

The event was such a success that the bookstore has invited me to return the weekend before Christmas.  I am very excited to one, have the success that I did yesterday and two, to have Joan invite me to return.

For the most part during the signing I was able to spend one on one quality time with each person that I signed a book with.  Learning a little about them and their own passions towards Jane Austen’s writings.  But on the flip side, I was a little giddy with excitement when at one point I had a line.   Yes, I am pleased to report that at one moment during my four hour signing that I had a line of 5 people.  The fact that they had their suitcases, their significant others and frequently children made the line seem even more spectacular than it was, but knowing that did not dampen my spirits as I watched it form.

A Book For All Seasons in Leavenworth Washington hosted their 18th anniversary Saturday April 24, 2010.  Part of their celebration included three authors signing at the event.  I was blessed enough to be included as one of the guest authors.  Here are two of the images from the event.  This first image is of me talking with Grant (he is next to me).  The two women in this image are his wife and twin sister.  I was able to sign a book for his sister.  She is a huge Pride and Prejudice fan.

Among some others I was able to sign a book for Art and Lorrie.  They were in town visiting from Spokane, WA while they viewed their camping site for the fourth of July.

April 23, 2010 was the book launch party for Longbourn’s Unexpected Matchmaker.  Queen Anne Books in Seattle Washington was wonderful enough to host the official launch party.  Tegan, my newest and greatest bookstore friend did such a fantastic job of preparing everything at the store.  She had this wonderful table all set up with beautiful tablecloths and treats.  The beautiful chair there is known as the Queens Chair becuase whenever an author visits they are the Queen Anne Books “Queen”.

Because I was also doing a reading Tegan had the podium set up with the signing announcement and another one of my signs.  Isn’t it amazing to be able to see your name on a poster.  I really think it is sureal.

One of the most fabulous part of having a book published is seeing the support of some of your dearest friends.  Gen and Conan, were wonderful enough to make the drive to Seattle for the event and share in the joy of the evening with me.

Another part O love about book signings is meeting all of the other authors that come out to show their love and support for a fellow writer.  June writes contemporary fiction and will be seeking publication in the future.  June, if you read this I wish you success in your writing career.

Saturday April 17, 2010 I was able to spend a very enjoyable 3 hours at Orca Books in Olympia Wa.  The day began a little overcast, but nothing unexpected because it is Western Washington.  The signing began with a steady stream of visitors, some of my friends from when I used to live in the area and quite a few new people that I have never met before.

An hour or so into the signing the heavens opened and it began to rain, not just any rain but a rain that causes lakes in the road within minutes of it starting.  The traffic in the store drastically reduced at that point and I was able to have some great discussions with those lingering in the store trying to avoid venturing outside again until the rain let up, at least a little.

Below are some photos from the event.  I can tell just looking at the images that it was humid that day… my curls went straight… the one thing I definitely remember from living there.  It was hard to keep my hair curled!

Let’s spread the word about Longbourn’s Unexpected Matchmaker.

Yesterday, April 11, 2010 at 12:45 Pacific Standard Time I had the experience of a lifetime, being able to promote Longbourn’s Unexpected Matchmaker on Champagne Sunday, a live radio show hosted by Nancy and Lisa, a fantastic mother and daughter duo.

The experience was fantastic starting out with talking about my two favorite things, sailing and writing, what’s better, we talked about about writing while out on the sailboat.

The discussion through the radio show focused a lot on the manners and traditions of the era and how the people from that time would respond today and how so many from the 21st century have lost proper manners.

I was also able to talk quite a bit about Longbourn’s Unexpected Matchmaker and how it is a book primarily of redemption, redemption of Mr. Bennet.  How the witty Elizabeth Bennet’s father must not be so indolent and careless as he is often portrayed in Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice (Penguin Classics).  I was also able to talk about one of my new books, a story about Mrs. Bennet and the eighteen years leading up to the opening of Pride and Prejudice.

One of the interesting questions that Nancy and Lisa asked on the radio show was about whether an author who writes primarily adaptation novels of another authors original creations (Jane Austen in this case) often receives criticism.

Of course every author will get criticism from someone out there and I mentioned this to Nancy and Lisa.  Criticism especially comes to authors who write adaptations because there are those persons who prefer only to read the original story and never want anyone to alter or change even a sentence of it, but to be honest those people are few and far between.  For the most part those of us who love and adore Jane Austen and her writings crave more.  We will read just about anything we can get our hands on, even vampires, sea monsters and zombies. (Mr. Darcy, Vampyre, Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters, and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: The Classic Regency Romance – Now with Ultraviolent Zombie Mayhem! and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Dawn of the Dreadfuls (Quirk Classics: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies).

I have been pretty lucky that as of yet I have not received much criticism, for the most part I have had overwhelming support and much contgratuations.
