Thanks to WMpowerUser for heads up. We just spotted the Tango update for Lumia 800C on Nokia Firmware update servers. This update is expected to bring internet sharing features for Lumia 800 smartphones. And also this update brings MMS functionality and other major performance improvements.

Nokia 808 PureView supports Time Lapse photograhpy in Creative mode with a time interval varying from 5 seconds to 30 seconds . Today Nokia have uploaded the Nokia 808 PureView Time-Lapse Film which includes two Time Lapse films taken with the Nokia 808 Pureview.

Nokia and Carl-Zeiss announced their partnership on April 27, 2005. Here is the snippet from 2005 press release.

Can’t wait to see the first Pureview Windows phone. But will you wait till then or buy the 808 which is launching this month. I prefer the latter

As we expected the Pureview Monster Nokia 808 will go on sale this month in India and Russia. Nokia today officially confirmed that India is one of the first market to have the Pureview this month. There is no mention of the price in the press release. We hope that it will sell below 25-30k price range. The waiting game begins NOW!

The Nokia 808 PureView is the first smartphone to feature Nokia’s award-winning PureView technology. PureView represents Nokia’s highest level smartphone imaging experiences, bringing together high-performance sensors, exclusive Carl Zeiss optics, and Nokia developed imaging algorithms. The first markets to begin selling the Nokia 808 PureView include Russia and India.

TPU aka Thermoplastic polyurethanes cases comes in different color, they also looks slim and gives strong protection. I got a Black Lumia 800 and I got bored of the color. Today I got a new official cyan colored  TPU case for Lumia 800. Here is my little review about the case.

Considering this is the official Nokia TPU case for Lumia 800 it fits perfectly. The case is completely different from the official case which comes free with Lumia 800. The top of the case is completely left open for easy access of 3.5mm jack, USB port and Micro SIM tray. In the official case when you need to swap the SIM you need to completely remove the case. But in this case you can swap SIM without removing the case.

Another major difference from the official case is the Chrome buttons such as Volume + , Volume -, Lock key and Camera key are completely covered in this TPU case. This ensures the paint peel off of the chrome buttons in-case if you drop the device.

The back side of the case comes with perfect cutouts for Camera and LED flash.

Overall this case nice and fine as Original case with some added advantages. You can buy Cyan TPU case and other Nokia accessories at Mobile-Fun.co.uk.  They now ships to India too.

Nokia Asha 300 was announced at Nokia World 2011 . It is one of the feature phones to come with 1 GHz processor and preloaded Angry birds game. Thanks to Nokia India for sending me one for trial. Here is my review about the device.

Design and Build quality:

Nokia and its build quality are legendary always, this phone is not a exception. Nokia Asha 300 comes with touch and type user experience. This experience combines the best of both touch input and alphanumeric keypad. The keypad is perfectly designed and elevated in a way to give users comfortable typing experience. The Series 40 6th Edition, FP 1 UI is completely touch optimized . Rather than the Alphanumeric keypad, default call & end key, Asha 300 also comes with mail shortcut button and push to unlock too. Nokia Asha 300 comes with an internal memory of 140MB and supports micro SD cards upto 32GB.

The screen measures 2.4″ which is pretty nice for browsing and casual gaming.

The screen is powered by resistive touchscreen panel which takes care of your touch inputs. The 1GHz processor makes the UI and UX works good but not super smooth as you expect. The top part of the phone holds all the major ports such as USB port,2mm charger port and 3.5mm Jack. This phone also supports USB charging too.

Removing the battery cover reveals the hot swap micro SD card slot and the sim card slot is placed safely below the 1110mAh battery.

Connectivity :

The affordable Asha 300 supports both HSUPA and HSDPA data bands. Other than that Asha 300 also comes with Bluetooth V2.1.

Best part of Asha 300 is it support USB-OTG. YEAH! feature phone with USB-OTG support sounds so sweet. Have a flash drive full of songs just plugin and transfer without PC .

Camera :

Nokia Asha 300 comes with a 5MP full focus cam with 4x digital zoom. It takes pretty decent shots. The shots measures a resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels. The Camera shoots video at a resolution of 640 x 480 at 30fps. Here are some camera samples in low-light and normal mode.

Software and Applications :

Lets start from homescreen , the homescreen is customizable and consists of widgets such as Music Player, Calendar, Notes, Communities app, an array of four shortcuts and much more. The UI provides haptic feedback throughout the system. It feels like you are pressing a real button. Other than that this phone also comes with themes support as all other S40 phones. Lets have a look at the Apps section.

I would like to start with this line ” Feature Phone just got smarter” . It is so true for the Asha 300. This feature phone comes with loads of goodies you expect out of the box from a smartphone. The apps worth mentioning are

• Nokia Browser which reduces data transfer up to 90% saving your 3G data limit
• Nokia communities a social media app combining both Twitter and Facebook
• Zenga TV which lets you stream tv channels via 3G
• All time favourite Angry Birds game
• Nokia Life Tools, Book my Show, Ebay India app, Mobile ESPN and
• NewsHunt, an app which lets you read all major news publiscations in your mobile.

Quite a collection no ? Other than this there is also dedicated Nokia store which lets you discover tons of apps,games and themes and also Nokia Music app too .

 Verdict :

Overall the Nokia Asha 300 lives up-to the expectation of a 1GHz feature phone. The processing power shows up very much in browser than UI.  The Angry Birds which I was expecting to be laggy turn out to be smooth and quite fun. Whatsapp for S40 gives you another reason for owning this feature phone as a secondary phone incase your main phone runs out of battery. At the price range Asha 300 is selling it is a must buy if you are looking for a smart affordable feature phone.

For years, Nokia commanded the lion’s share of the world cellphone market, only to stumble as Apple and Google launched their twin smartphone efforts over the past couple of years.

Now, after revamping, Nokia is back in the United States with a Microsoft Windows smartphone release known as the Lumia 900.  And although the new release is only days old and sports a Windows 7.5 release 2 version of Microsoft’s smartphone software, it is already one of the most popular phones at the retailers that are featuring it.  Both Amazon and AT&T were sold out of the phone this week.

Best of all for both Microsoft and Nokia, close to 60 percent of the purchasers appear to be abandoning their iPhones in favor of the new Nokia/Microsoft combination.

Nokia’s designers should be applauded for their choice of Carl Zeiss optics in the phone’s camera, as well as their focus on ensuring the advanced OLED display’s performance.  The result is a phone that does compete with both Google and Apple, leading to comfortable speculation about what the future portends for the Microsoft-Nokia combination when Windows 8 ships.

Of course, by blending technology from exterior parties and licensing Microsoft software, the profit margin for the Nokia smartphones that are being sold has to be much less than it is was formerly.  It is therefore important for Nokia to continue to push the envelope when it comes to integrating ‘exciting’ into its products or it will lose ground rapidly outside of prepaid smartphones, which usually also factor in availability as a component of purchase motivation.

Fortunately, understanding what customers want from a design standpoint, if not always necessarily a software standpoint, is what Nokia excels at.  Already this year, they have managed to integrate a 41 megapixel camera into one of their other smartphone offerings, a fairly amazing undertaking.  Similarly, bringing back the flexible OLED display that the company demonstrated in 2009 so that future phones can unfold or expand, would be another timely endeavor. Finally, working toward a full-scale tablet with Microsoft Windows 8 as the operating system would be another crowd-pleaser if consumers continue to adopt Windows 7.5.

From Microsoft’s perspective, it’s a fact that the tablets that are already on the market containing Apple and Google software are not going to be as strong as anything that contains Windows will be.
