]]> Another family hiking trip, this time to Chester Lake in Kananaskis. We did an approximately 10 km round trip, including 320m of elevation gain. Andrew walked all the way up to the lake, but got a ride (and a nap) in the backpack for part of the way back down. It was a beautiful hike and the highlight of the trip was that there were loads of fresh wild strawberries beside the trail! It took us much longer to go back down the trail than it normally would have!

]]> During our recent summer vacation we went to Ottawa for a week. Although we spent most of the week at Louise’s family cottage, we also spent a day with the extended Agnew family for a party. Louise’s Uncle Michael invited everybody to celebrate his birthday! ]]> I joined in on Scott Kelby’s Third Annual Worldwide Photowalk on the weekend by connecting with a group of Albertans at the Bar U Ranch National Historic Site of Canada. The Walk was organized by Darwin Wiggett and Samantha Chrysanthou. Thanks to Darwin and Sam for organizing again this year!

Although it was a beautiful day, conditions were not actually great for photography since the sun was high in the sky and it was very contrasty. I tried to focus on the smaller details and really just wandered around with Louise and the kids and watched them play. They had a great time exploring the ranch, meeting the horses and eating the food. Highlights included fresh biscuits and coffee (or hot chocolate) cooked over an open fire, a wagon ride, and getting to dress up like cowboys. It turned out to be a great visit to an interesting place!

]]> Rob, Cyndi, and Sophie came for a visit recently (OK, not so recently, but I’m trying to catch up on my backlog so don’t hate me!). One of several outings we did together was to go hang out at the playground at Prince’s Island Park. We played on the playground, played soccer, and had lots of fun. It was a really great visit and our kids talk about Sophie all the time!

We went camping at the Ware Creek Campground with the Millers and the Bridgmans. Ware Creek is a private campground owned by Esso and operated by the Ware Creek Tent and Trailer Club. It’s a really great facility and it made for a perfect place to go camping with a group of friends. The first day was great, but we basically got rained out the second day. We made the most of it and had lots of fun anyway.

]]> We went to an official Stampede Caravan Pancake Breakfast with Grandma and Grandpa Phillips. Real flapjacks with real blueberries! Yumm. The Stampede Caravan travels all over the city, hitting two locations every day for pancake breakfasts. Thousands of people line up to get their fix. It’s crazy, and very delicious!

]]> Melanie was lucky to be able to go to a gymnastics camp at the Altadore Gymnastics Club last week. It was a really great week for her as she went to camp every morning and then got to play with her friends Keiran and Brenna every afternoon. We all got to go watch at the very end of the last day as the campers put on a display of what they learned. They then got to have some free play time in the gym. Andrew even got involved and it was great fun for everyone.

We took a family vacation to Glacier National Park in Montana last weekend. The park is incredibly beautiful and we had some really stunning views and some nice hikes. It’s a really windy place though and we would have enjoyed a little bit nicer weather. The kids had great fun and it was really nice to get away!

I had lots of fun doing some landscape and nature photography. It’s been a long time since I’ve taken the time to do it and it felt really good. I was actually pretty rusty though since I’ve been doing so much work with people and portraits lately, so it took me awhile to get back into the groove! I also had fun playing with a fisheye lens, so you’ll notice some of the portraits are really distorted. It’s kind of a fun look and the kids had all kinds of laughs seeing themselves looking so funny!
