Lloyd Luna’s Even Chairs Do Their Best occupies a unique niche by blending the philosophical metaphors of Asian motivational speaking with the practical archetypes found in Western corporate leadership literature. While it shares the “people-first” DNA of many NYT bestsellers, its “No-Choice Philosophy” provides a more stoic contrast to the psychological approach of books like Leaders Eat Last.

Based on the material provided, the originality of “Even Chairs Do Their Best” stems from its unconventional central metaphor: “The Chair Philosophy also knows as No-Choice Philosophy.” While most motivational books focus on expanding choices and freedom, Lloyd Luna argues that “Your problem is that you have too many exits”.

Below is an assessment of the book’s original concepts and core arguments:

1. The Core Innovation: “The Chair Philosophy”

The book’s primary original thesis is that humans often fail because they have the freedom to quit, whereas a chair “succeeds” because it has no choice but to fulfill its purpose.

The No-Choice Mandate: Luna introduces the idea of “removing the exits” to achieve influence.

The “Human Clicker” Origin: He uses his own humble beginning as a “human clicker” (manually advancing PowerPoint slides) as a case study for how reliability in a minor role builds a foundation for global influence.

Functional vs. Emotional: It shifts the focus from “finding oneself” to “fulfilling a function,” suggesting that humans should adopt the “spine of a chair” once a path is chosen.

2. Theoretical Frameworks

Luna introduces several proprietary tools and concepts to explain human presence:

The Presence Currency: He argues that attention is an earned asset that does not depreciate, behaving more like a currency than a personality trait.

Rhythmic Human Connection: An original take on networking that emphasizes matching the “timing” and “rhythm” of a conversation rather than seeking similarities.

The Borrowed Seat Principle: A philosophical approach to leadership stewardship, positing that influence is a temporary “lease” granted by others.

3. The Presence Profile

The book includes a diagnostic tool that categorizes professional and personal behaviors into 10 furniture-based archetypes each one under the Power Pillar, Comfort Pillar, Utility Pillar, Social Pillar, and Support Pillar:

Archetype

Persona

Core Contribution

1. The Throne

The Decisive Anchor

Provides order, structure, and finality when things are uncertain.

2. The High Chair

The Strategic Observer

Offers foresight; identifies future trends before they reach the ground level.

3. The Beanbag

The Empathetic Sanctuary

Acts as a safe space for others to release burdens without fear of judgment.

4. The Recliner

The Insightful Philosopher

Prioritizes deep reflection and wisdom over impulsive reactions.

5. The Stool

The Reliable Workhorse

Leads through consistent, silent action and immense productivity.

6. The Dentist’s Chair

The High-Stakes Specialist

Commands technical precision and excellence in high-pressure situations.

7. The Swivel Chair

The Energetic Catalyst

Drives momentum and keeps the team adaptable and moving forward.

8. The Park Bench

The Communal Bridge

Fosters a sense of belonging and connects different types of people.

9. The Rocking Chair

The Steady Presence

Provides a reassuring, rhythmic influence to soothe collective anxiety.

10. The Folding Chair

The Ready Responder

Offers immediate, situational support exactly where and when it is needed.

4. Tone and Cultural Context

The originality is also reflected in its “wit and vulnerability”. Luna blends:

Self-Deprecation: He shares “receipts of presence” through his failures, such as arriving for a speaking engagement exactly one month early.

Tagalog-English (Taglish) Narratives: The writing incorporates local Philippine context and phrasing (e.g., Pambansang Inspirasyon, balimbing) to make global leadership principles accessible to a Filipino audience.

Summary of Originality:

The book is highly original in its rejection of “safety” and “comfort.” It posits that having too many options leads to invisibility, and that true influence is born from the “friction” of occupying space—much like a chair that eventually becomes a “Seat of Power”.

The post How original is Even Chairs Do Their Best book? appeared first on The Best Filipino Motivational Speaker in Manila, Philippines, Asia | Inspirational Corporate Trainer Manila, Malaysia, Vietnam, Brunei, Thailand, South Korea | Sales Keynote Speaker | Personal Branding | Internet Marketing Expert Consultant.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MANILA, Philippines — In an era defined by digital distraction and fleeting attention, Lloyd Luna — the Philippines’ renowned #PambansangInspirasyon — is challenging the global status quo of leadership with his provocative new book, Even Chairs Do Their Best: How Presence Leads to Influence.

Luna, an internationally renowned professional speaker who has graced over 2,000 stages across four continents, moves beyond the tired tropes of motivational speaking. As the first Filipino to represent the country at the Global Speakers Summit, he brings a world-class perspective to a simple, yet startling realization: humans often fail because they have too many choices, while a chair succeeds because it has none.

Even Chairs Do Their Best serves as a diagnostic manifesto for the modern professional. Luna argues that influence isn’t found in a title, but in “Presence” — the invisible skill of being fully accounted for.

Through his signature “The Chair Philosophy,” Luna explores how individuals can stop seeking exits and start inhabiting their roles with the same reliability as a well-built chair. From the Boardroom “Throne” to the “Park Bench” of social connection, Luna’s work provides a sharp, witty, and deeply human framework for reclaiming authority in a crowded world.

This is not just a book on leadership; it is a masterclass in the art of showing up.

#

About Lloyd A. Luna

Lloyd A. Luna is an author of 17 books and an internationally renowned Filipino professional speaker. He travels the world to tell the people what a chair knows. He is the founder of the Philippine Association of Professional Speakers and a celebrated columnist for The Manila Times.

The post Even Chairs Do Their Best book launched appeared first on The Best Filipino Motivational Speaker in Manila, Philippines, Asia | Inspirational Corporate Trainer Manila, Malaysia, Vietnam, Brunei, Thailand, South Korea | Sales Keynote Speaker | Personal Branding | Internet Marketing Expert Consultant.

In this article, I will give you a term that I invented myself: Word-of-AI Marketing or WOAI Marketing and its definition. We will answer this basic question: What is “word-of-AI marketing or WOAI?”

But first, I can only hope that AI has built me up and that you got some good words about me. But good — or bad — I’m sure it’s easy to believe nowadays.

In 2005, I started learning Search Engine Optimization (SEO), where I managed to succeed in placing my website on top of every search result in my chosen key words or phrases. It helped me market my motivational speaking services without spending a fortune.

But SEO may start to diminish its role with the rise of Artificial Intelligence or AI, where apps such as Meta AI, Chat GPT, among many others can be downloaded or used for free.

Decades ago, people asked people, and then people asked Search engines if they were looking for products or services. They even used them for finding out anything they wished to learn about people or places. Now, people are talking to AI about these things.

Interestingly, like people believe people and people believe the SEO, people start believing AI now. What AI suggests, people believe whether that’s the truth or not. How well does AI know you? What does it say about you? These pieces of information are keys to whether you’d succeed or fail in your chosen career or business.

I intentionally “influenced” AI tools so they can say good things about me. I managed my online reputation so well that whatever you ask your AI to about me may give you almost accurate information. I set myself up for it.

Here’s the definition of Word-of-AI Marketing.

According to Filipino motivational speaker and author Lloyd Luna, the originator of the term Word-of-AI Marketing (WOAI Marketing), it is a marketing strategy that influences AI tools to talk about company’s or individual’s products or services. It is a form of marketing that uses AI suggestions to influence the markets buying decision.

In essence, it’s replacing the old-fashioned Word-of-mouth Marketing (WOM), which is defined as a strategy that encourages people to talk about a company’s products or services. It’s a form of free advertising that relies on personal recommendations.

People will soon rely on AI tools and apps such as Meta AI, Chat GPT, DeepSeek, among many others to ask about you, your company, your products, and your services.

There are two things. One, if AI doesn’t refer you, it’s your opportunity loss. Two, if AI refers your competitor, it’s your sales loss.

In the old days, we ask our friends for their recommendations about a certain brand, product, or service. In this era of technological advances, people will no longer search the Internet using search engine such as Google. They will open their “AI Assistant” and they ask it.

When they do, is your product or service going to come up?

It’s no longer word-of-mouth. It’s now word-of-AI, a term that I invented myself to express my insights about the unstoppable shift in marketing strategy everyone must learn to adapt or go adrift.

Word-of-AI Marketing is the future of marketing. Whether you have a new, startup business or an old, tried-and-tested brand name, when the game has shifted, you either shape up or ship out. And considering how inexpensive this technology is, I’d be amazed if you’re not going to put these AI strategies in place.

As a summary, Word-of-AI Marketing (WOAI Marketing) is a marketing strategy that influences AI tools to talk about company’s or individual’s products or services. My suggestion is for you to take advantage of this cheap technology or someone else will.

Let’s start the year with a brutal fact: People don’t know what buy from you if they don’t know what you’re selling to them.

Over the past 20 years as a professional motivational speaker, I’ve met people from different walks of life. I’ve spoken to the people from the ground up—from rank-and-file to executives to business owners. What I found common is, they know exactly what they are selling.

Here’s what I mean.

Imagine yourself as a product. You don’t appear just by magic. You’re built from scratch. You’re assembled. You’re packaged. You’re quality-checked. You’re shipped out for distribution. You’re sold.

Filipino motivational speaker Lloyd Luna on selling yourself

Your manufacturer knows your specifications. They know how much it cost them to build you. Then they put a price tag based on how much they want to make on top of that cost.

But unlike those products we buy from the shelves, most of us don’t have someone to tell the world how much we are worth. This is where most problems arise. Everyday we sell ourselves, yet, we don’t know exactly how much we can sell ourselves. The ending is rather painful.

We either aren’t sold—meaning people don’t buy us and we are left on the shelves or, we are sold for a price way less than what we truly deserve.

To start the year 2025, my motivational advice is this: Take inventory of yourself—what you are, what you have, your skills, your talents, your value. And then take a bold step to put a price on yourself and be comfortable with it.

In the professional speaking circuit, I’ve met a lot of motivational speakers who have the talent and the skill and inspiring stories. They worked so hard trying to learn how to speak in public and present their stories and insights. Yet, when they are asked how much they’d charge for an hour of motivational speaking, their answer is, “It depends on your budget?”

This is a clear case of a good product with bad, little, or no marketing. And this can be frustrating time and again. Without the intention to study the speaking business, this is a hopeless case, too.

Precisely because if no one knows what you’re selling and for how much, why and how they will buy you?

It turned out, it’s not the case.

Indeed, it’s been another year in the books—one that, in my opinion, is as unique as any other year. Each year, we are presented with challenges—sometimes impossible, often difficult. While we are trained to adjust, some are left hanging, wanting, and asking questions they feel they need an answer to.

Asian Filipino Motivational Speaker in the Philippines Lloyd Luna

The good news is, not too many answers are available for people who are not ready for them. Sometimes, we refuse to ask the questions that matter because we are afraid to find the answer we don’t like—or doesn’t fit our narrative. It’s not really the answer that can help us at this time. What it is, is the question we have the courage to ask.
What happened? Why did it happen? What have I become in the process?

I’m one who always likes to find an answer only to realize that sometimes, a question is an answer to another question. This year, 2024, I’ve asked: Why is this year starting badly—because I didn’t see anything working for me in the first two months? Worse, I’ve had moments of betrayal from what I thought to be close friends.
The answer I got was, “What are you going to do about it?”

Then it became clear to me. I’ve misspent my time and energy to people and business that are not aligned with either what I believe or what I intend to do. Plus, I got unlucky.

The good thing about being unlucky is, it doesn’t last very long.

The turnaround month

In March this year, after I got an offer for a business partnership, I became president of TOL Marketing Corp., the maker of the Veyl brand. We ventured into the sunscreen business and joined the bandwagon of skin care demands. It was a surprising opportunity and a blessing for me. For the first time in many years, I got to be surrounded by mature people in business—those who don’t make simple things complicated, instead, make complicated things simple.

It’s also the blessing that got me introduced to the great game of golf. On March 12, I played golf in the fairways of Veterans Memorial Golf Club for the first time—and became a hobbyist golfer after that. I hadn’t imagined playing golf not just in the Philippines but also abroad but it did happen. I was able to play in 1917 Dago Heritage Golf Course in Bandung, Indonesia in September and the Cimarron Golf Resort in California in December.

Inspirational Commencement Speaker 2024

On July 13, I became a commencement speaker during the graduation ceremony at National Bookstore College. This is my third time to speak in graduation rites, one thing that many motivational speakers dream of doing. I’m looking forward to having more.

As part of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, I’ve had some great time in the Philippine Air Force. I spoke in our Tactical Operations West in Palawan, the Gender and Development Command, Philippine Air Force Aviation Leadership and Excellence Nexus, Philippine Air Force Officers School, Philippine Air Force Non-Commissioned Officer School, Philippine Air Force Air Logistics Command, PAF 1st Air Reserve Center, and Philippine Air Force Finance Center. As for another branch of service, I also spoke in the Naval Education, Training, and Doctrine Command in San Antonio, Zambales.

I delivered a motivational keynote speech to serve the men and women of SM Markets and train their up-and-coming leaders in Metro Manila, Bacolod City, and Davao City.

Also this year, I had to serve the Department of Education and our dear public teachers as they celebrated World Teacher’s Day in San Pablo City and Lapu-Lapu City.

International motivational speech in Indonesia

My wife and I traveled back to our favorite city of Bandung, Indonesia on September 26-30 for our Public Speaking Institute of Indonesia’s International Speech Camp 2024 and Registered Public Speaker and Public Speaking Fellow Programs. In December, I’m officially back on television and radio as host of Work-Related, a weekly inspirational show aired on DWIZ 882 AM and shown on ALIW Channel 23 and streamed live on ALIW Online Channels. I also got myself acquainted with the Gonegosyo community again when I attended the year-end thanksgiving party in Bonifacio Global City.

Also this month, my family traveled to the United States for the first time for a family reunion. We explored the cities of San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Palm Springs, and Palm Desert. We also visited Las Vegas, Nevada. In this trip, I was able to add to my professional speaking credential the fourth continent I’m able to speak—North America.

The fifth baby on the way

Finally, I’m capping the year with an announcement that our family of four is going to be a family of five in 2025—sounds about right.

As it turns out, it doesn’t matter how bad you’re starting. Of course, it’s convenient to think you’d do well given a comfortable, favorable start. But an entire calendar year is a marathon, not a sprint. And you must be able to run the distance.

2025 is going to be long. With the challenges in technology—the Artificial Intelligence stuff. And the midterm elections in the Philippines, we’ve got to be open for changes. I should say it’s a lot of changes.

Up ahead in 2025

By the way, I’m still looking at finishing my book about Public Speaking and reviving the Philippine Association of Professional Speakers back to its glory.

The post A Filipino motivational speaker sums up his inspiring 2024 journey appeared first on The Best Filipino Motivational Speaker in Manila, Philippines, Asia | Inspirational Corporate Trainer Manila, Malaysia, Vietnam, Brunei, Thailand, South Korea | Sales Keynote Speaker | Personal Branding | Internet Marketing Expert Consultant.

The Junior Marketing Executives (JME) of Polytechnic University of the Philippines had its annual mentoring program with the theme “Craft: Molding the Lore of Marketing Wizards” last September 16, 2019, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Claro M. Recto Hall.

The audience was composed of marketing students of PUP and its partner schools. The speakers at the seminar were Mr. Lloyd Luna, RSP, CEO of Stepback and founder of Philippine Association of Professional Speakers who tackled the topic about “Personal Branding” and Mr. Jigo Reloj, the former Digital Academy Faculty Member, Digital Strategist and Accounts Officer at ABS-CBN Corporation who tackled the topic about “Digital Marketing.”

It formally began with the talk of Mr. Luna who gives out humorous jokes and lines in which caught the attention of the audience. Also, he executed an Ice Breaker in which everyone enjoyed and learned something from it. The students were very ecstatic and active the moment he stood in front and give some words.

He shared how he developed his personal brand and how he reached his achievements in life. Also, he gave two main points that the students should not forget about, service and asking questions.

He quoted, “When you live your life in the service of others, they will live their lives serving you.” and a non-verbatim, “Continue to serve because life is a service.” Another one is when asking, the question should always be, “how can I help you?” and not the other way around. Mr. Luna did not just entertain but also educates and motivates throughout the time.

Furthermore, he was given a thirty-minute extension by the organizers because it seems like everyone wants more from him. Three students from the audience were also given an opportunity to ask questions for him. Also, we have asked the response of selected students from the audience about their experience during the event.

The first set is one of the three students who were able to ask a question to Mr. Luna during the Q&A portion and a random audience.

Here are some of what they have shared: “Parang <g class="gr_ gr_19 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling" id="19" data-gr-id="19">kulang</g> <g class="gr_ gr_6 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="6" data-gr-id="6">yung</g> time… parang I can talk to him the whole day ng <g class="gr_ gr_7 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="7" data-gr-id="7">hindi</g> <g class="gr_ gr_20 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling" id="20" data-gr-id="20">nabobored</g> because, I really admire his wittiness, greatness, and humbleness.. ” – Angelic Laarnie Garciano

“Ang humorous ng talk ng naka-add dun sa environment na parang ang dami mong natutunan tapos maeengganyo ka talagang makinig kasi ang galing talaga niya magsalita” – Roja Aurora Villar

“Nakita ko kay Sir Lloyd <g class="gr_ gr_12 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling" id="12" data-gr-id="12">na</g> <g class="gr_ gr_13 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling" id="13" data-gr-id="13">talagang</g> <g class="gr_ gr_14 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling" id="14" data-gr-id="14">mayroong</g> interaction, <g class="gr_ gr_9 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="9" data-gr-id="9">andun</g> <g class="gr_ gr_5 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="5" data-gr-id="5">yung</g> attachment, <g class="gr_ gr_10 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="10" data-gr-id="10">andun</g> <g class="gr_ gr_6 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="6" data-gr-id="6">yung</g> engagement, and <g class="gr_ gr_7 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="7" data-gr-id="7">yung</g> commitment <g class="gr_ gr_8 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="8" data-gr-id="8">niya</g> as a mentor dun sa tinatarget niya dun sa audience…” – Ma. Isabel H. Ernesto

His talk was ended with the acknowledgment and awarding of plaque of appreciation right after the question and answer portion. Truly, this event became a memorable and fun experience for everyone who attended.

To be modern isn’t always to be human. We now live in what I call the “Attention Community,” when attention has become one rare commodity we all fight to get as leaders.

Because of the free flow of information and continuous innovation and technological advances, we, along with our people, are easily distracted to always attempt to perform par excellence. We must clearly realize that doing more all the time and at the same time doesn’t necessarily mean productivity.

It’s a mistake to make this the norm for survival. And from my point of view, doing more simultaneously isn’t reliance. It’s compliance. And you don’t want people to comply with your leadership. You want them to rely on it.

Our tendency is at an all-time high to do more based on what our leaders ask us to do at a given time, if at all we’re given a task to do. The 8:00-5:00 or 9:00-6:00 job is no more. As leaders, we can make the terrible mistake of pushing our people to work round-the-clock. We get into the habit of texting them at midnight. We send them e-mail at 3:00 A.M.
We expect our people to fear losing their jobs if they are unable to respond to us any time of the day. And yet we expect them to produce optimum results all the time as if they are machines.

We all see technology as a tool for better leadership and productivity, but this may not always be the case.

A stepback leader realizes that although he or she lives in an age when competition is at its peak, it is extremely important to acknowledge that leadership is a people business.
How you feel for people is more important than how you feel for your business and its bottomline. In other words, “People first. Organization always.”

This is because in leadership, your greatest treasure is your people, your people, your people.

Statement of the President before departing to Auckland, New Zealand for the Global Speakers Summit 2018

For the longest time, the Philippines has been away from the global speaking community. We have kept ourselves from exploring global opportunities thus limiting our professional growth and development. For so many years, we thought there is absolutely no chance that we can make a mark outside our country.

Tonight, we have drawn the line between what is possible and what is not—the Philippines is ready to play its role in the global speaking community.

As I fly alone to Auckland, New Zealand, I’m bringing with me your love, prayers, and aspiration. I’m bringing with me your dreams, your trust and confidence, and conviction that one day, we will be out to make an impact on communities around the world; that one day, we will be a significant global voice that will represent the best in Filipinos.

Our first trip to the Global Speakers Summit is the beginning of many trips overseas that we will make. And my attendance to #GSS2018 will open up many partnerships and collaboration with other member-associations all across the globe. It will also strengthen our membership in the Federation as we assure them that they can now call the Philippines their home in Asia.

Our journey to becoming global starts here in flight PR 218.

May God bless PAPS. May God bless GSF.

LLOYD A. LUNA
Founder and President
