This can be as brief as a couple of sentences, or it could resemble a mini-sales page with a couple of paragraphs, and bulleted text. Lately, many internet marketers use video and audio on their squeeze pages to get subscribers’ attention.

The most sure-fire way of enticing a visitor to surrender their email address into the web form on your squeeze page is to offer them a product of real value. This is sometimes called an “ethical bribe”. A list is a collection of people’s details (normally email addresses) who are interested in your product/niche. These people have opted in to become part of your list because you can provide them with useful products/information. A list of 100,000 people whom you know nothing about is not likely to be as profitable to you as a list of 5-10,000 people whom you know are interested in your product/niche.

You want to make sure people that are visiting your website know exactly what your product/business opportunity is about, you do this first of all by including keywords about your product/niche in your domain name. For example I am involved with Internet Marketing so my domain name includes the keyword “marketing” and then in the brief description of my site I let everybody know that I am an Internet Marketing Mentor. It is no use in having a domain name that does not have any keywords, this is because you will not be getting targeted traffic which will result in a poor list.

After you have made it clear what product you are promoting/selling with a keword loaded domain name make sure you give detail on exactly what niche within your industry you are involved with. This is done by creating a squeeze page; this is where you give the viewer an offer to receive something beneficial relating to your niche (eg free internet marketing report) in return for their details (email address and first name are the best; anymore and the viewer might be reluctant to part with that information).

Bullet point out the offer to make it stand out to the viewer; people don’t want to have to read a long chunk of text to find out what the offers/benefits are so make it clear for them. Also I recommend shooting a video where you explain the benefits; this is good for two reasons. Reason one is because you come across as a leader and reason two is people will relate to you and know you’re not a spamming robot.

For example I look for people in real estate as the housing market has been hit hard recently by the economic recession so more and more people who had real estate jobs are looking for other ways to make money as their jobs are not guaranteed, this is why they are likely to be interested in my home business opportunity.

To find these people I simply type “Real Estate” on Facebook and Twitter and it bringe me a list of people that have that word appear on their profile so they most likely work in Real Estate. Add them and when they accept introduce yourself, briefly let them know who you are and what product/home business you are involved with. Then ask to hear more from that person; list building is all about building relationships so show an interest in them as well.

If you can find a pattern where they joined on a particular day and approximate time range, then that is probably the best time to send an email.

Here’s a tip: If your audience is worldwide, then people who sign up for your list on their lunch break in Moscow is a completely different time then those who are joining during lunch time in Dallas. If you use a service like GetResponce or Aweber, you can list by region, which allows you to readily send emails to a worldwide audience.

After you have figured out the most likely time when most of your recipients are online, you can go ahead and begin sending mail out. But remember for really effective email marketing, to also use Step #2

Step #2: Track and test your results!

Because your traffic logs and autoresponder statistics might suggest that lots of folks joined during their lunch break doesn’t mean that twelve noon will be the best time to send emails. Rather, you should find that your readers are most responsive later in the evening, when they have come home and the family has retired. You may find that they are more responsive to your offers in the morning.

Point is, finding out when your audience is online serves as a starting point. But ultimately, you need to test your list to find out when they’re most responsive. That means creating identical emails, splitting your list, and sending your emails out at different times of the day (and even different days).

If the only place you have your opt in box is in your sidebar you are making a huge mistake. When people come to a blog they are not usually in the mindset to opt in to something. They may not even register your little opt in box in the sidebar because they are so focused on your content or whatever else you have going on on your site. If you want to create subscribers from readers the best way to convert your traffic is to give them less choices, in fact, give them ONE choice when they hit your page, and that’s to sign up.

What is an opt in page?

An opt in page is a short page that has one possible action your readers can take, and that’s to sign up for your autoresponder. This site converts quite well because people come looking for how to do squidoo and that’s just what this page offers.

A quick list of benefits people will receive from opting in, what they will learn, how it will help them to know the information provided. You can do this in a bullet point list, which makes them very clear and accessible. Make sure you are talking about benefits, from the reader’s perspective, how is your information going to help them?

The last piece of the puzzle is your opt in box itself. You can get this from your autoresponder. Make sure you mention the free gift and give them some instructions. It seems ridiculous, but when you specifically say something about them entering their name and email address conversion rates go way up. Crazy but true. Once the code has been created by your autoresponder, all you have to do is paste it right on to your squeeze page.

Once you’ve finished this simple page the key is to send all your traffic through this page first. That way you can get people on your list and have the opportunity to talk to them more than once. The more times you can put your product or service in front of someone the more likely they are to buy from you in the end.
