G'Day All,

Champagne Golden Oldies Rugby at its best featuring the mighty KWP Limping Leos vs. the Gordon Stags, Lindfield Funnel Webs and the Wahroonga Toothless Tigers.

This will be a family day and all in the community is welcome and encouraged to attend as the Leos seek to raise the trophy and some much needed money for the club over the bar.

We will have a jumping castle on site for the kids and will be operating a canteen (from 12pm) so we encourage you to bring along the family.

A fine selection of food (steak & sausages sandwiches and Gentle’s famous chilli / tandorri chicken) and a fine selection of cold frosty beers, wine and champagne for the adults, soft drinks and sunny boys for the kids.

The format for the day is as follows.

Teams/Players arrive for warm up at around 12:30pm – port and photo’s.

Game 1. - Limping Leos vs. Funnel Webs (1pm – 1:20pm)

Game 2. – Stags vs. Tigers (1:25pm - 1:45pm)

Game 3. – Limping Leos vs. Stags (1:50pm – 2:10pm)

Game 4. – Tigers vs. Funnel Webs (2:15pm – 2:25pm)

Game 5. – Limping Leos vs. Tigers (2:30pm – 2:50pm)

Game 6. – Funnel Webs vs. Stags (2:55pm – 3:15pm)

Game 7. – Limping Leos vs. Funnel Webs, Stags & Tigers Barbarians (3:20pm – 3:40pm)

4:00pm Presentation and thank you for attending club Presidents plus the best and fairest KWP idiot on the day (pink shirt).

Game 1 for 2010 - Toothless Tigers

Well done on yesterday’s performance both on and off the field. Good win and we have now been invited to join the ‘Battle of the North Shore” 4 way of who has bagging rights as the team to beat on the North Shore.(Gordon/KWP/Lindfield/Wahroonga). More details on that when I can get more info from those 3 teams.

What a day and what a night. Thank you to those that contributed towards the alcohol and present for our birthday boy. We may also need to consider having boat race trials for after match functions as I thought the Wahroonga boys were a bit soft in not having the traditional after match boat race.

As for back at the clubhouse, well you just had to be there!!! I’m sure the photos will be surfacing soon of our very own Scott Gresham in his mankini birthday suit.

Next up Petrified Forest on 2nd May at 1pm. No training this week, but if anyone is in for touch Friday morning let me know.

Well done to those that got our points – Damien Weber, in sensational form on the wing, pace to burn, new boy Paul Simpson at halfback silky pass and great service to our birthday boy Scott Gresham who split up the defence up the middle and was a real PEST to the Wahroonga boys, my apologies couldn’t remember who got the other point as at this point my memory was blank for the rest of the afternoon and night!!!!

Pink shirt goes to David Turnbull who ran the length of the field only to drop the ball over the line!!! Calves (David Denny) for coughing up a lung or 2 as he played bravely with the flu.

Samoan Relief BBQ and Collection

The Leos will be conducting a BBQ and collection at the West Pymble shops on Saturday the 10th October, with all proceeds going towards Red Cross Samoan Tsunami Relief fund. Donations of boots, clothing, toys, etc would be great! We will collect, bag and ship (thanks Turbs).

Leos at World Masters Games

With a much appreciated sponsorship from Toshiba, the KWP Toshiba Lions will be fielding a team in the World Masters Games (Sydney October 09). We have three pool games, all at TG Milner over at Eastwood. Sun 11th October at 1200 vs Hawkesbury FP, Mon 12th October 1500 vs Old Thistles and Wed 13th October 1600 vs Universidad Catolica de Chile. Entry to the games is free, so come on down and have a beer whilst we lumber around the paddock!

No doubt Gresh will soon be working overtime pushing out some more team gear, stay tuned..

It would appear to capture most of the attributes of our team quite well......

Perhaps we should give the bugger a name???

Match Report - Gordon Stags

This was to be our first big test as to how we are going so far in the golden oldies. And the boys didn't let anyone down.

From the moment the referee blew the whistle we were right in the game from the word go.

But, before this the traditional port was provided by the Gordon boys before our first annual match between the 2 north shore teams.

With that out of the way, it was game on. The Gordon pack was alot bigger than our pack, but the KWP pack was up to the task on matching them pound for pound.

The intensity was unbelievable, standing out in the backs I was in awe of our forwards....they set the platform for the game and gave the backs plenty of quality ball to show what we could do as a backline.

Guys played like they were possessed, Shane "Poodle" Grobler, Mark Taylor, Scott"Bender"Gresham, and AJ Mitchell, Phil Walker, Crazy Alvarez to mention a few.

The talk was positive through out the game, guys were actually starting to realise, that when they run onto the ball they actually break the advantage line and kick ass along the way.

This was test match material, alot of cheeky banter happening at the bottom of the rucks, with one saying ''keep the ball here so I can have a rest''.

The crowd had come out to support their local side and the boys certainly put on a show. Unfortunately, the team was brought back to earth very quickly as one of the boys from Gordon had gone down in what turned out to

be a very serious injury.

Players and locals were quick to react and an ambulance arrived within minutes. We wish him a full recovery and hope to see him back on the field next season.

It was decided to carry on with the remainder of the game, and again within minutes the boys were fired up and could sense an upset. Both teams did not want to lose, and it showed when AJ got head highed in a tackle to which AJ

Mitchell got up and winked at the opposition.

Gordon ran everything at us, but our defence was up to the task. The Gordon boys were wondering what do we have to do to knock these boys over. Bodies were falling left,right and centre, we were all now playing to survive and

thinking the first mistake from one of us could cost one team the game.

Poodle ran the length of the field in the dying seconds of the game, the locals were going wild as were the reserves and the injured KWP players.....Poodle with the line in sight just got tackled just short of the line, great defence from the Gordon boys and in the end, both teams were rewarded with a draw.

Smiles all round, hugs and winks from both teams showed what the game of rugby is all about, friendship....fun....and having a damn good time playing the game they play in heaven.

Back in the changing rooms, the official song was sung and could be heard all the way up the West Pymble shops, where one person at Ugos Pizzeria was heard saying "where is that angelic sound coming from?"

Fantastic effort men, now onto the Eastwood gala day.....word is we are the darkhorse of the tournament.

The mighty Leos face the Chatswood Stags on Sunday the 24th May.

This game is now at Chatswood Oval. We will be going to the game in style. K-Man has arranged for a train to pick us up at Pymble Station. Time to be confirmed. Nice work K-Man!

Bundy Virus Pandemic at Lofberg?????

Shocking news this week that there was another outbreak of the dreaded Bundy Virus at Lofberg Oval following the Limping Leos game against the Petrified Forest last Sunday. Reports are sketchy at this stage (and not expected to become any clearer due to the havoc that was caused) though it would seem that the first symptoms became known some hours after game with repeatedly exaggerated stories about length of the field tries and spectacular ball and all tackles. Further concerns were realised once the sweet smell of Bundy Virus was detected using the latest in scientific methods (ie: the missus at home), this smell has been likened to that emitted by individuals who have been drinking the Australian rum of the same name. This often leads to false accusations of too much rum drinking by said scientific method, which is most unfortunate for those unlucky (and innocent) souls that fall victim to this horrible virus. Any further outbreaks are considered unlikely, with the KWP Rugby Virus Control Officer reporting that the site had been cleared of all suspected infection sources. Kolose went on to say "It was pretty ugly at the time, but is is all good now... I think".

Match Report - Petrified Forest

Well, we got through game two - albeit with a couple of notable injuries. Notso has buggered his shoulder (though there is some high falutin' medical name that has been used to describe this - acromioclavicularjointdislocation) and Lou has black, swollen balls (also known as acromioclavicularblackandswollenballsdislocation). Special thanks to Shrek for the medical transalations used here! Get well soon guys!!
The Game? Again the Leos showed that they are more than keen to contest the ball and run the bastard at every chance. The boys from Frenchs Forest were a couple of players short and some of our guys had a run in the green and white. They lacked nothing on the field, and gave us our first taste of playing true Golden Oldies with 57 and 72 year old blokes running around. Oh the joy when our wives realised that we could be doing this for another 20 odd years!!
Whilst we may have run in an extra try or two, the game was a solid draw ... with rugby being the winner yet again!
Well done to our 3-2-1 blokes. 3 points to Louis Longhi, 2 points to Mark Daniel and 1 Point to Crazy. Our Pink shirt award was close, but went to Tes for passing the ball to Chucky after he had already crossed the tryline. Luckily Lachlan (being a member of the front rowers club) did not look the gift horse in the mouth and scored the try!

Game 2 - Petrified Forest

Well, we are back again for game 2. This time we face the boys from Frenchs Forest.
Game time is after the Under 16's (around 1:15 pm according to K-Man) at our home ground Lofberg. Drinkies will be served prior to us taking the field.
Hopefully the weather will be good to us (and the crowd) this time.
Shrek has organised the jumping castle ... which player will be represented this time? The mind boggles.

First Game!

The Limping Leos had their first game this weekend (19th April).

The Lindfield Funnelwebs and the Wahroonga Toothless Tigers provided a keen oppossition which saw all our boys nice and sore afterwards.

Who won? Mate.. who cares (though rumours has it that we went down 4 tries to 5).

Training on Thursday the 22nd April.... at the bar!!
