Confession: I didn't like soup when I was kid. It always looked so homely and there was something about not being able to inspect each and every ingredient in my bowl that troubled a fussy eater like me. Who knew what might be hiding at the bottom of the bowl?

Fortunately, I had a friend (a fantastic cook) who forced me to get over it. My change of heart began with a bowl of velvety, nutmeg-spiked pumpkin soup that she fixed for a group of us one cold autumn night.

It was warm,...
Welcome to LIME's brand new Organic Living blog, where organic lifestyle expert Eliza Sarasohn — author of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Organic Living — tackles your questions on the ins and outs of living la vida organica. This week, Sarasohn shares a few of her favorite dishes for easy summer meals.

Summer is the season for easy organic cooking. Whipping up a healthy, tasty dinner is often as simple as heading down to the local farmer’s market to see what’s fresh. Here are a couple of...
Easiest Chocolate Cake

By Sarah Magid

This is the easiest chocolate cake in the world — perhaps in the
universe! You don't even need eggs, butter, or milk, and you probably
have all the ingredients on hand. I use this recipe when I'm in a time
crunch, because nothing needs to be creamed, beaten, or whipped; you
literally just stir things together. It tastes like the best dark
chocolate sponge cake you have ever eaten.

You really can please all kinds of people with this one. It...
You can’t squeeze blood from a stone, and honestly, you can’t
squeeze soup from it either. But just as in the children’s tale Stone Soup, where everyone in the village each contributed a small something to a
communal pot, you can achieve a full meal from what might have been mistaken
for an empty fridge.

What You Need

            *6-12 qt
stock pot

            *A week’s
worth of veggie scraps (see below)

            *Additional
seasonings to taste: chopped garlic, peppercorns, bay...
In Cool Cuisine: Taking the Bite Out of Global Warming (Gibbs Smith Publisher, September 2008, paperback) Laura Stec, a celebrated Bay Area chef and Eugene Cordero, Ph.D., a nationally recognized atmospheric scientist and Professor of Meteorology at San Jose State University reveal that our current food system is responsible for at least 20 percent of all the greenhouse gas emissions that lead to global warming. The standard American diet (SAD), which includes massive amounts of processed...
This may not be the simplest recipe, but Linda Collister, the cocoa connoisseur behind Fair Trade Ghana-sourced Divine Chocolate, devised these versatile little choux pastry buns to melt in our mouths. She's given this classic three different fillings to choose from: a simple whipped cream, a rich chocolate and coffee French pastry cream or a dark chocolate ice cream. Then, just before serving, simply pour over either the dark chocolate or white chocolate warm sauce. Your effort will be repaid...
Ah, the pleasures of dining out on Valentine’s Day. Soft dinner music, candles flickering as you gaze lovingly into your sweetheart’s eyes … and lovely side dishes of traffic, parking hassles and a nice fat check at the end of your meal.

I prefer to whip up a meal for my honey at home — with a menu full of aphrodisiacs, foods like these seven that many civilizations have long believed increase sexual desire or pleasure:

Asparagus. Some claim that people who eat...
