The holidays mean lots of time spent with family, which can
mean lots of opportunities for stress. Whether your brother-in-law insists on
talking about politics, your mother probes into your love life, or your Great
Aunt Jean picks her teeth at the table, family gatherings are rife with opportunities
to lose your cool.

"The irony about spending time with the people you know
and love the best is that they also know how to push your buttons the
most," says Kate Hanley, author of...
One of the great things about having Facebook friends across
the age spectrum is finding out what's going on in other subcultures. If you're
on the social networking site at all, you probably know that there are all
kinds of special interest pages, but one that popped up today made me, well,
sad. It's called Pretending to Text in Awkward Situations.

Nobody, at any age, is immune from awkward situations. I've
had my share of tripping over my feet, blushing and feeling foolish. When I was

The most important part of being at peace is having a clear mind. Once your mind is clear you are able to direct it where you want it to go rather than chase it around like a hyper puppy off its leash.

Most of us really have no idea how much stuff is jammed into our heads until we give ourselves the time and space to let it bubble up and out of the chaos of our subconscious. Have you ever tried to make a list of things to get done only to find your mind gone blank? Yet once you start doing...
Sherry Johnson-Traver planned on taking an Alaskan cruise and
traveling the world with her husband. But those plans changed when
crisis struck. In 2007, just a day before their 14th wedding
anniversary, her husband Ross died of lung cancer.

Johnson-Traver had been through tough times before: a divorce, job
loss, major illness, death of her mother. But the death of her husband
left her spinning and sad, overwhelmed by even the smallest things.

She couldn’t figure out how to use the remote...
This is not a good time to be a news junkie.

Headlines are crammed with stories of global strife, economic woes, an overheated political climate and, well, an overheated planet.

It's enough to keep anyone up at night, and it's hard to stop worrying even though we all know doing so takes a serious toll on our mental and physical well-being.

There's a laundry list of worry-related health concerns at WebMD, along with evidence that worry contributes to heart disease. (Too bad knowing...
By Denise Schipani

No one has to remind us that these are challenging times. I know it, for sure: until last spring, when my husband found a job after 18 months of searching, I was our sole provider. I spent that whole time firing on every available cylinder, with a knot of worry permanently fixed in my stomach.

But even without our familial financial worries, I suspect I’d be overtaxing myself, moving fast, multitasking—it’s just what we do, particularly women. It’s ironic: in times...
I need sleep.

Lately, I have been, well, tired, and yawning way more than any normal person should. I mean, it's so bad, my jaw is tired from yawning so much.

It's a vicious, vicious (sleepy) cycle.

But when I am working a lot and my life is as jam-packed as it is right now, I feel like sleep suddenly takes a back seat.

I have been sleeping, on average, for about six hours every night,
maybe five. And the effects are definitely taking its toll. Like, this
is a...
