Kate Moss has left her agency of 27 years Storm to form her own agency, appropriately called the Kate Moss Agency.

Kate said “I want to focus more on managing people’s careers than just [running] a modeling agency. I don’t really want pretty people, I want people that want to sing and dance and act — I want to create stars’.  I can see the ad now – pretty people need not apply?

Kate brought Lucy Baxter (her Storm booking agent, who also left the company) into the business.  Powerful booker = success and no one knows that better than Kate. Strike those deals!

Kate is also expanding into Kate Moss Lifestyle. We’ll have to stay tuned to find out more details about that and what talent Kate ultimately ends up representing. Should be very very interesting – lets stay tuned!

Forbes just released some interesting new stats on those women we used to call Super models. I feel like we need a new term!  It seems somehow outdated and today’s models are very different. As is what catapults them to fame. Yes, they still need to be unbelievable creatures of beauty who can work magic in front of a camera  but now they need more. They need followers!  Instagram, Twitter & Facebook. I’m probably forgetting something but you know what I mean…!

Giselle Bundchen still leads the pack by a HUGE margin raking in a $44 million payday. Adriana Lima is next with $20 million. Next in line is Kendell Jenner at $10 million.

Jenner is technically the biggest gainer as her earnings increased from 4 million to 150% to $10 million in 2016.  Having 36.4 million followers on Instagram, 12.4 million Twitter followers and 9 million Facebook fans–ensures any ads she appears in can reach millions more.  Tied with Jenner at No. 3 is Karlie Kloss, who doubled her earnings since 2015 by clocking more campaigns than any other model on the ranking. Next comes Gigi Hadid and Rosie Huntington Whiteley @ $9 million a piece.

The question is at what level does a business feel the need to counter in a model’s social media status? It’s obvious with the big designer campaigns, but what about brands like J.Crew, Levi’s, Zara etc.?

And we can’t forget to mention  there are of course, the “Social guys”  too (Baptiste Giabaconi, Lucky Blue Smith etc. ) but somehow, it’s just not doing the same magic as it is for the girls but then as we know, modeling is the one business where the payday tides are most definitely turned…

One things for sure, we know that our feline friends aren’t cooperative and need to be wrangled even more than some models. I remember when I was booking Taylor Hill as  junior model for Amazon.com. a couple years ago.  She was an “easy booking” for me as she flew into Seattle from LA.  As a booker, Taylor was a fantastic, gorgeous solution that didn’t require a plane ticket from New York – where I booked the bulk of my junior & missy models often on very short (and expensive) notice. You’d think we’d hit the model jackpot but funny enough, she was not a big hit and some “people” didn’t especially love her big eyebrows. Or cared about how she looked in swim!

When I saw that Taylor had become an VS Angel my eyes rolled a little bit thinking back about the “eyebrow” comments.  But don’t get me started,  I mean talk about kicking a gift horse…Taylor has become huge and now to add yet another feather in her cap she can add the Lancome legacy to her resume as their newest face.  Eyebrows and all!

You can tell when a brand is in trouble a little bit when they suddenly pull a group shot of  “senior supers”  like this. Can Carolyn, Amber & co.  give them the boost they need in their quest to return to the classical base that is their namesake?

J. Crews have been suffering as the brand strayed from what they are known to do best. Preppy with a twist at a good price.

Abra Belke, who blogs under the pseudonym Belle at DC-based fashion blog Capitol Hill Style, sums it up best for me. She feels disappointed by a label she used to be loyal to and puzzled by what she sees as Lyons’ larger-than-life imprint on the retail giant.

“When Jenna started, people were excited because it was different,” says Belke. “But in the last three or four years, it got ridiculous. I think the brand is more and more out of touch . . . it seems to be going through an identity crisis.”

“I think they’re designing for a very small subset of people who work and live in very specialized industries in New York. My boss still wears flesh-toned hose with her skirt suit. I can’t show up in a sequin pencil skirt.”

Let’s hope J.Crew can get it together – personally, I would have to agree totally with the words above. It really takes gorgeous girls to make these overstyled combos look good…

Two more minutes on the Group shot – Balmain clearly working a different angle with the new gen of social media savvy It-Girls. And all sisters: the Jenners, the Hadids and who knew Joan Smalls had a gorgeous  little sister?!
