So today the clocks went back 1 hour . I always love when the clocks go back rather than forward because the main advantage I see is that everyone gets an extra hour in bed getting that all important sleep .

However changing the clocks back and forward throughout the year causes a lot of disruption for companies and businesses. People miss meeting, deadlines and fail to turn up to work on time.

Now most people are used to the change in time occurring just twice a year however it is always funny watching people rushing about thinking they are late when the clocks go back an hour, it hasn’t dawned on them that they are actually really early!

Where I work they always make it a point to let everyone know that the clocks are changing so that we have no excuse for turning up late for work .

The reason for this time change is simple, to keep up with the sun rising and setting at different times, then we set our clocks accordingly so that we maximise our use of the daylight this was once considered important to save in electricity!

An easy way to remember the time changes is by using this season reference, Spring forward, Fall back .

I did not expect to get Windows 7 today, i was expecting to get it tomorrow (Friday) since i had opted for free delivery on amazon, however that was not the case, i arrived home today to see that it had arrived . According to amazon’s site it should of arrived tomorrow.

When i find out all the interesting bits about Windows 7 i will sure to be making a new post here!

I just upgraded my flickr account to a pro account! I have been meaning to get around to doing this for a while now but just forgot about it!

Flickr only allows you to upload 200 photos if you have a standard free account, you can actually upload more than 200, however flickr will only show your latest 200 uploaded.

I ran into this problem when I returned from Edinburgh last summer, I added all my pictures to flickr and then I could only see a few of them.

It is great to have the flickr pro account as this means there is no more restrictions on my account . For the pro membership it is a yearly cost of $24.05 which is about €16, not exactly breaking the bank with that membership as it is completely worth it.

This is the first time I have paid for hosting of my pictures but it is completely worth it also now I have the ability to upload HD videos to flickr! Not that I will be using this feature, it is always nice to have something extra .

Now that I have the pro account it helps out here on this blog, I have a section on my blog, now all my flickr photo sets / album’s can be seen here too! As soon as I upload them to flickr they will all be right here on this blog. This feature has been on  my blog for a while now however with the old limitations of my standard account for a few months visitors could only see a few of my pictures .

I will most likely begin to use flickr to store some pictures for some of my websites, this will save bandwidth on my end and also the images will load quicker as they are coming from a much better server!

Even though I will be in college tomorrow all day, it will be a great break for me. All of this past weekend I have had this routine, go to work -> come home and have dinner and watch a bit of TV then go to bed -> next morning wake up and go straight to work, then  the steps just repeat!

I have had no time to relax this weekend, no sleep-in’s either! By the time I came home from work and had my dinner it was almost time to go to bed, it was ridiculous. So tomorrow will be a nice break for me .

I just found out too that I have a test tomorrow on Asp.net and XML in Web Applications Development. It should go fine though since it is a multiple choice exam and it’s not like we can be asked a whole lot since there is only a small amount that we have learnt so far.

I really need to get a move on with my college project too, I enjoy doing this project, so tomorrow I want to have a go at doing something for my project, most likely when I finish college.

I save money every week when i get my wages.  A little bit every week throughout the year and then when christmas comes i take it all out and use it for something usefull.

The money i am currently saving will be going to pay for next years car insurance, well most of it. I have to spend some of it otherwise it would of being pointless to save! Treat myself with something then put the rest onto the insurance.

Now however i have another target that i want to begin to save for. I want to save up for a new computer. So tomorrow i will be going down to the post office to start a savings account. By putting my money there it will mean i will not spend it. Once it is gone out of my bank account i dont mind, it is just like i dont have it, but if it was there i would be more inclined to spend it on something.

The computer i currently own is 3 years old and will be nearly 4 by the time i get my new computer. I have no idea yet how much i will be saving from week to week, but i will definitly be saving something.

Any money that i make from doing websites for people now will be going into my savings, which will be a big help.

The computer i have in mind will be a Dell XPS, not sure what model yet, but i want a really good computer. Must be fast, really fast, have lots of memory and disk space .

…Computer drivers that is ! The reason i hate them is because they cause a serious amount of hassle. This week my computer broke. No idea why, it was working perfectly the night before then when i went to boot it back up the next day, nothing! There was a black screen saying that windows failed to load a file and that it might be corrupt.

So i did what i normally do, i went on the web to find a solution to my problem to see if there was any way to fix my computer without wiping it. Unfortuantly every possible solution that was given would not work. I tried replacing the file from a working version of windows and had no luck getting my computer working again.

I finally decided to just go ahead and wipe my computer, i had all the files backed up thanks to a handy usb to hard drive cable . I then went ahead and reinstalled Windows XP, this time instead of putting back on pro or home edition i decided to try out Media centre edition, and i am glad i did, it works the same as home edition, as expected, but it just looks so much more appealing to the eye and i can now connect my pc to my Xbox through Media Center.

Anyway once the initial setup of Windows had finished my problems began! Since i have so much different hardware plugged into the computer i had to install all of there drivers, so for example i needed a driver for my mouse, keyboard, printer, monitor etc. I managed to get all those drivers no problem, however there was one that i still could not get even after trying many different driver solution on forum’s online.

The driver i could not get was  the Video Controller and Video Controller (VGA Compatible), i found out this was for my graphics card, i needed it because whenever i moved things such as a window around the screen it would just jump like mad. I could only imagine how bad a game would of played on it, not that i play a lot of games on my pc.

No matter how many drivers i tried it would not work, in fact when i went to install the ATI driver that i needed for my ATI graphics card it would just freeze my computer. I went to the dell site and entered in my service tag code to get the driver i needed and that too froze my computer!

It was getting a bit annoying as the computer was basically useless without it. After a while i started to mess about on my computer and realised that the driver i downloaded actually saved as one file, so that when i double clicked it the installer would open, instead of opening the installer i right clicked the file and extracted the files inside it and then tried a manual install of the driver and it worked perfectly .

To make a manual install first the files have to be extracted, then simply go to the control panel, then click performance and maintenance then into system. Once in that windows click the Hardware tab then click into device manager. Once in there right click the driver you need to install and choose update driver. Then choose to select where to the install the driver from and include the folder of extracted files.

Then it works with no freezes occurring .  It is such a simple solution and i really wish i had of thought of it sooner, it would of saved me a lot of hassle.

It’s been over a week now since i last visited this blog. I have been so busy i have had no time to actually sit down and get a post sorted for the night.

There are a lot of reasons for my absense on this blog. I have been working constantly with my job. It is supposed to be a part-time job however with the hours i am getting these days it definitly would feel worse than a full time job! Some shifts can be 12 hours.

And that work-rate is not going to slow down over the next few weeks or months, as Christmas is approaching (we actually put Christmas decorations out today!) in a few months it means that we will be working more and more. I am greatfull to have the hours, however working day after day with these hours is just mental!

I am back at college too, so between college and work, my time is pretty stretched out. This week i also went to the funeral of my Great Granny, 101 years old! And i also had an appointment with the hospital this week.

So when i did finally get some time to sit down to my computer i would usually just put on some music and then work away with a website that i am doing for an Electrical Company. I was pushing to have the first version of the site done for yesterday (Thursday) and i succeeded A lot of work went into it and i have made it live on the internet now.

There is still a lot more that will be changed on the site, i sat down yesterday and had a meeting with the owner and he was asking what i could do to improve the site. A few suggestions were made and now i have a short list of tweaks that i will be making to the site over the next week.

Busy busy busy, with all this work i hope to still manage to get out some more posts a bit more regularly. Lets hope this will not be the last post of this month!

As of today it is exactly one month to the launch day of Windows 7 ! Currently i have Windows XP installed and did not bother to upgrade to Windows Vista as i did not see any benefit from it, however that is not the case with Windows 7, i have actually purchased a copy of it. This is the first time i have ever bought an operating system.

I hope that by upgrading to Windows 7 that i might get some extra performance out of my computer, it is not likely i will get a lot, i expect it to be in and around the current performance but it would be nice to get something out of the upgrade apart from the new OS look and feel and layout!

I will be installing the OS as a clean install, as far i know that is the only way to install it in Europe, there is no upgrade version being offered. I usually manage to get the bulk of the work done in the first day, i will definitely have the old OS wiped and all the data formatted, and then i will also have Windows 7 installed.

After that it is just loading on all programs that i used to have and getting down to finding out what is good, bad, new and different about Windows 7 .

For the past week i have had no work . It was great, usually when i have time off work, it would go past really fast. But for some reason this past week that i was off went slow. It seems like such a long time since i was at work!

Although i have not made a lot of posts during this past week, i only actually made one, i still have been online doing a few things. I have being working on a few bits for other sites i own.

A site i am trying to get launched for next year about tv-shows, i have been working on how i am going to go about adding content as well as sorting out a decent design, which i think i have finally settled on.

Also this week i have been working on building a website for a local electrician, this is my second site that i have built for someone other than myself. Now i have clients! .

A few months ago i was going to get a move on with changing a music video / entertainment site that i was working on, The Entertainment Clam, I made a start then soon lost interest with it.

The site did receive a fair bit of traffic, but working with that site is fairly awkward. This week i found out that a new version of the site’s software has been released, so i have now begun to get more interest in the site again and i am thinking of upgrading to the new software.

It would be great to find an open source alternative instead of paying for this software, i have found one or two of interest but i current hosting company does not support all the requirement, so i might look around and send off some e-mails to other hosting companies to see if they can or will host it , it is worth the try anyway.

I would like to get hosting here in Ireland, i have been looking at a few hosting providers and they are actually very competitive with American hosting company’s, on such company is Blacknight.

I have also been working on a new layout for this blog, it seems like i am always changing it but i am not 100% happy with it just yet, the next version will be much much brighter, i have already settled on a layout, but there are a lot of tweaks to sort out with it.

Over the next few days i will have a few reviews of some products i bought recently including a netbook amongst other things.

There are a lot of different things on this blog that i do  like however there is also a lot i do not like. I think it is mainly leaning in the direction of things that i do not like.

A few months ago i revamped this blog completely; it was to show that i have more interest in this blog and by changing everything and having a nice new logo it was a mark on when i started to take a keen interest in blogging on a more regular basis.

Now i feel that there are a lot of changes that need to happen and that i have started to look into. First off i really want to add a little more light to the design, so i am on the lookout for a really nice theme, wordpress of course, that with a little modifying would suit this site.

Looking around for themes is really difficult as the majority of them are far too cluttered, what i am looking for is a nice bright and simple theme, and i want one that is really quick at loading. I know plugins take time to load and that is what really slows down a site but also so can a theme.

That is onto my second point, any slow plugins will have to go and will be getting replaced with lighter ones. The twitter updates that i currently have in my sidebar really slows down the page load, so i am going to do away with that in my next theme when i get it sorted out.
