Today I’d like to share the photos from my friend Nicole’s Lego birthday party.   All boys and girls love Legos as there are endless creations to build.  This is a perfect party theme for a young boy.

For the invite you can make your own with cardstock, order them on Etsy or Tiny prints customized with a photo or you can download a printable invite.  Nicole found this cute printable invite that can be easily customized.  She printed the invite on paper and then mounted it on a green cardstock so that it was thicker than just one sheet of regular paper.    You can find this free invite on Make Your Own Invitations for download.    There are tons of free printable invites out there, search around to find one you like.    Here’s a link to my Lego Party Pinterest board where I’ve pinned some of my favorites. 

The kids were given a bag of Legos and a party blower.  Each bag of Legos had a board with a big number “5” since this was the birthday boys 5th.  Having the Legos at the tables was a great way for the kids to have something to do while they sat at the tables. 

I made a rectangle Lego banner for the birthday boy.  The circles were cut with a small circle punch and then raised up with pop dots to give the illusion of the circles on Legos. 

The rectangle banner shapes were cut via the Silhouette with two small circles precut making for easy stringing. 

There were a few rectangles left over so I made this mini banner.  The balloons were colorful on theme decorations and great for all of the tables.

Nicole punched out circles from cardstock to make these cute favor bags.   They are very simple and look awesome. 

The cake was a sheet cake from the store that was personalized for the birthday boy.  She used a small Lego beach set and made some blue water from frosting.  The letters are a great way to easily personalize your cake, you can find these at the grocery.  This is the same Nicole who has helped me with my cakes & cupcakes seen here:  Fish Cupcakes, Owl Cupcakes & her son’s train party cupcakes from last year.    What a cute cake, huh?! 

The kids played pin the head on the Lego body while they were blindfolded.   It was a fun party game and interesting that everyone put the heads in the same location.  The green board is foam core found at the craft store.

I am thinking about throwing a Ninjago themed Lego party for my sons next birthday.  He was the green ninja from Ninjago for Halloween and says he’d like a Ninjago party.  His birthday is still 6 months away so we’ll have to wait and see if he’s still interested in Ninjago at that time.    I have some cute photos of him in his costume that I could use on the invite.  It will be hard to decide which design to use!  Handmade or with photos??   Also, I’ve started collecting Ninjago party ideas on this board.  I know I’ll have fun making things for a Ninjago party if this becomes a reality.

Today I’d like to show you a Lego birthday banner that I made earlier this year. 

I used the Silhouette to cut the rectangle shape for the banner flag pieces.   Added small holes at the top of the rectangles before cutting the shape so it would be quick to assemble later.   Then used my circle punch to cut out all the circles for the top of the rectangles.  I raised the circles with pop dots to make the shape as realistic to Legos.   The letters were also made with the Silhouette,  I elected a thick font and added a thin black outline printed before cutting the letters out.

I love the bright colors that a Lego theme offers.

Today I’d like to share the photos from the Minnie Mouse birthday party.  I enjoyed preparing for this pink & blue party and was excited to see how everything came together for the party.   Last year, I did a Mickey Mouse party that is the most popular content on the blog.  When preparing for Gwen’s second birthday party I knew Minnie Mouse would be a great theme and I am curious to see Minnie will be as popular as Mickey.   I’ll let you know!

Throughout the photos, I’ll link to the previous posts with more details if you’d like to see how I made something.     On the front door, I welcomed guests with a birthday bow-tique sign.    I tied a bunch of balloons to her high-chair and hung some pom-poms from the ceiling.

I served an assortment of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse foods with food tent signs for added decoration.

Food List:  Goofy’s Grapes, Clarabelle’s chips & Dip, Donald’s Dogs, Minnie’s Bow-tie Pasta Salad, Minnie’s Strawberry Le-Monade, Daisy’s Garden Vegetables, Pluto’s Pirate Booty, Mickey’s Sweet Mallows, Pete’s Oreos and Gwennie Mouse’s Cookies.  Also served cheddar cheese cut out with a Mickey cookie cutter.

Delicious strawberry lemonade served in Minnie mason jars with striped black and pink straws.  The kids had small jars and taller ones for the adults.  The lemonade was very tasty with fresh cut strawberries.   Also for adults a splash of Vodka makes it a great afternoon drink!

Donald’s dogs are made from turkey hotdogs, cut up into small bites and then wrapped with Pillsbury dough.    They turned out yummy and tasted better than the pre-made kind.

Pirate booty is always a big hit with the kids.  Personally, Clarabelle’s chips & the cheetos were my favorite!

Chris dipped marshmallows in pink Wilton candy melts and then rolled in pink sprinkles (also Wilton) on the outside.  The Oreo cookies are prepared the same, dipped in the candy met and then pink sprinkles.  The idea came for these from the yummy Fish Marshmallow Pops we had at Gavin’s birthday.    However, the pink sprinkles on the outside didn’t taste good,in my opinion, but the kids did enjoy them.  At least they look beautiful!  I’d recommend trying smaller sprinkles that taste yummy for these to work.  Including something else to balance it out like graham cracker crust or even Oreo crust would make it taste better .

We served yummy vanilla and chocolate cupcakes.  To get the bright pink color for the frosting I used Wilton icing seen in the Fish Cupcakes.  It’s awesome how many more color options you get with this product.  On top there’s an edible fondant black Minnie silhouette with a cute pink bow, ordered these from Etsy (ClaudiaCupcakeLady).  Then added round sprinkle balls (also Wilton).    Thank you to my awesome cupcake designer Nicole (seen here decorating: owl cupcakes, fish cupcakes, & train cupcakes) she sure creates beautiful creations and is so great with the frosting!

Ordered two dozen custom Minnie Mouse sugar cookies from Etsy (SugarySweetCookies).  There were number 2’s and also Minnie heads with Gwen’s name on them.  Of all the sugar cookies we’ve gotten for the last three parties, these were the best tasting.    Her designs are beautiful and I hope to have her cookies again.

Chris made a mini cake with the rest of the mix for the birthday girl.  It was perfect for the candles but too big for her to eat.  She picked at the frosting and then ended up eating a pink cupcake.

After baking the cupcakes I put them into pink & blue polka dot cupcake liners.  They look so beautiful & colorful because they aren’t stuck to the cupcake like the liner it’s baked with.   Not to mention the added liner makes them look great for photos!

The kids loved the Minnie piñata.  There are strings hanging from it, each kid takes one, they all pull at one time and the candy falls to the floor.  It was really exciting to open it up and it looked so pretty hanging from the ceiling.

Made a favor sign for the party favors and also displayed the party invite on the table.  We had two bigger Minnie dolls for Gwen & her best friend.

Hung colorful pom-poms and swirl decorations.  Tied the balloon bunch to her high chair and a few other bunches were around the house.

Hung the pink & blue Minnie ribbon wreath in the hallway.

Hung the scalloped birthday banner above the fireplace.

Made some extra paper bows after the door sign & cut a big Minnie silhouette out to play pin the bow on Minnie.

You can create & cut the Minnie with the Silhouette Cameo.  I explain how to make the Minnie/Mickey shape in the water bottle post.    After making the shape for the bottles it was easy to enlarge it to 12 inches.   The kids had fun playing this game.

Happy Birthday Minnie subway art.  It’s fun to mix fonts & colors to create a cute sign.

Ordered a big Minnie mylar balloon and took it to the party store to have it filled with the rest of the balloons.   The kids loved playing with the life size Minnie balloon.

This is the last post showing the decorations I made for the Minnie Mouse Birthday Party.  Today I’ll show the the quick & easy food signs.  Adding food cards to your party food is a great touch to tie everything together with the party theme.  Not to mention, food cards look wonderful sitting in front of the food. 

I printed the digital paper onto 12×12 white cardstock.  The paper used for the cards was left over pieces from the other paper decorations (such as the Minnie banner).  The white squares were made with the Silhouette software, added a simple pink border to the rectangle shape.  The white piece of cardstock is then mounted on black cardstock.  I punched the Minnie head from the pattern paper with a circle punch. 

Here’s a sneak peek at Gwen’s party dress.  As I’ve shown in the wreath & banner, I didn’t want to have too much pink so I was thrilled to find a sweet blue dress.  Found this cute handmade blue chevron dress with a sweet pink & white polka dot sash on Etsy (SweetBClothing).  There’s even a pretty white flower with a button center that pins onto the sash.   For her hair, I found these cute polka dot clips also on Etsy (dylivingston).     Picked up enough for her girlfriends at the party so everyone can wear Minnie clips!

Food label cards are very simple, quick to make and they are my favorite paper piece from this party.

Last year I made Mickey Mouse food cards that were similar to these.   I used a lot of the same food name ideas for the Minnie food cards.  The biggest difference with the Mickey cards is that I printed the circle box onto the paper while printing the pattern.  The entire piece is just one piece of paper.

These are the favor bags that I made for the Minnie Mouse birthday party.  I’ve had fun making birthday party favor bags in the past and was excited to try a new technique to create these bags.  This time I made my own bag by using a 3d shape from the Silhouette store.  This is a great way to do it if you have the supplies and would like to use a custom pattern.    It’s also very rewarding to make the entire bag and I loved doing my first 3d shape on the silhouette!

I wanted the the bags to be as large as they could in order to hold a water bottle and a plush Minnie Mouse so I enlarged the cut file on a 12×12 page to the biggest size.  I printed the polka dot pattern from the digital papers I’ve been using for this party and cut out the two pieces.

Here’s what it looked like after I cut the two pieces.  It’s very simple to assemble:  fold on the scored lines and then add glue dots.   I like using glue dots more than glue because it’s instantly dry and you skip the mess.  The glue dots hold very well too and don’t ever come apart. 

Here’s the finished polka dot purse.  Isn’t it cute?   You can put various party favors inside and it’s the perfect size for little hands to hold. 

I put small plush Minnie’s inside the bags for the girls.    This is the same Minnie that I used on the ribbon wreath. 

The boys got a small Mickey in their bags.  The polka dot bags were a little plain with just the polka dots on the outside.

I added a scalloped circle and a big number “2” on the front of the purse.    The scalloped circles were left overs from the birthday banner.  I love that I was able to use them again here, it wasn’t planned and I was thrilled they were the right size.  I popped the “2” up with pop dots so that it has dimension.  I also put the Minnie Mouse water bottles inside the purses.   I love how the colorful patterns look next to the black and white polka dot and then the cute Minnie’s peeking out.  Which one is your favorite?

If you’ve been following my posts this sign may look familiar from the Mickey Mouse party (seen below).   The best part about making digital signs is that you can reuse them over & over.  I already had the hearts and stripes paper printed, that are the two background pieces.  All I had to do was open the file up from the Mickey favor sign, change the yellow & red to pink & blue and then print.  It was so quick to be able to leverage this past sign!    I punched out a circle Minnie from the cupcake digital files that I also used on the Minnie mason jar drinks and added it to the sign.  Easy and quick!

This is the welcome sign I made for the front door of the Minnie Mouse Birthday party.  I printed & used the same digital paper seen in the birthday banner and other items.

I cut out the letters with the silhouette and put them on large squares.  This is the same font used on the banner.  It’s a much smaller size here but still works because it’s a thick style.

The round Minnie bow silhouettes are from the pattern paper in this digital set.  I punched them out with a small circle punch and then used it as the O’s.

I made the paper bows with with the silhouette. This is my first time making a cute bow and I love that it’s 3d.  The bow pattern cuts three separate pieces.  It’s easy to assemble, just add some glue and it’s complete.  I also made a set of these bows for the party so that we can play “pin the bow on Minnie.”   I got the idea for the multi-panel rectangle Minnie party sign from the post Melissa did on Bless this Mess.   Thanks for the inspiration and great idea!    I made my sign large because I wanted the bows to be big.  They are 4 1/2 inches from edge to edge and the bottom panel is just about 12 inches wide.

After the party you can hang the sign on your child’s door.  We’ve been enjoying seeing the colorful party sign on my daughters door.   She talks about the Minnie “Birthday Bow-Tique” every time she passes the party sign.

Here’s the DIY Water Bottle party favor that I made for Gwen’s Minnie Mouse Birthday party. It was my first time cutting vinyl on the Silhouette and I was excited to try it out.  To be honest, I was a little nervous because I didn’t know how it would work and didn’t want to ruin the vinyl.  I found some great vinyl tutorial videos on YouTube and learned all the tips that I needed to start my first cut. 

I first saw this cute Minnie water bottle on Etsy for $6.00 (thank you for the great idea Angela!) and was planning to order them for the party favors.  While I was shopping at Michael’s craft store for some craft supplies, I came across a bin of these water bottles for just $1.25 each.  I still had a HUGE list of things to create for the party, it was a bit ambitious but I couldn’t resist having the chance to make these myself.

Before starting you’ll want to adjust the white plastic guide, brining it into the middle to hold the 9 inch piece of vinyl.    I kept the vinyl on the backing it comes on and didn’t use the cutting mat.  Inserted the vinyl right into the machine.  It was so easy and fun to cut vinyl.  I was relieved that it went well and I didn’t ruin the first piece of vinyl.

If you’ve searched for a Minnie Mouse or Mickey Mouse shapes in the silhouette store you won’t find any.  The great news is that you can create one on your own in just a few steps.  I created the Minnie head by adding two ellipses to a circle and welding them together. 

Then I placed the thick chunky letter inside the shape.  The font is Luckiest Guy, also used for the paper letters in the circle birthday banner.    I was able to create all the vinyl decals with just two pieces of vinyl.

On the side of the bottle I added two smaller silhouettes. 

All done, this is such a quick project!   It felt good to try a new medium that I hadn’t used yet.   I can’t wait to do my next vinyl project. 

I did a mix of blue and pink bottles.  For siblings I did one pink and then the other blue.

The kids loved their new personalized Minnie water bottles, they are a great size for their little hands.    Warning, don’t put these in the dishwasher they are hand wash only.  The vinyl won’t survive and neither will the bottle.  You might ask how do I know?  My hubby didn’t realize their sensitivity and we lost two in the dishwasher!  Thankfully I had a few extras and could make two more for Gavin & Gwen.

Next I’ll show you the bag that I made to hold the water bottles. 

For Gwen’s second Minnie birthday party I created a subway art print to celebrate.  I came across a cute Minnie mouse subway print on Etsy and craft-lifted the design to create this subway art piece (thanks for the awesome idea!).  For those of you that don’t want to DIY your print you can always buy one!   After the party you can hang it in a frame in your daughters room so you can enjoy for time to come.

I have a huge stash of fonts (over 1,000) on my computer and love a project where I can mix & match fonts.  I spent a lot of time selecting the fonts.  Try one and then if it doesn’t work you can select another.  It’s a lot of fun!  I worked on it, took a break and then came back a few times to see it with fresh eyes.  I used the same digital paper you’ve seen in the banner and other pieces.  I used Photoshop essentials to create this print.    If you are looking to download some new fonts, here’s a link to my favorite fonts on Pinterest.

I layered two of the pattern pieces for the background (striped & dots).  When complete I added a piece of blue & black cardstock but the rest of the piece is just one piece of 12×12 white paper.  I incorporated the “bow-tique” theme into the subway art that was first used on the invite.   For the Minnie mouse silhouettes I took the shape from the cupcake topper, removed the words and added the letters on top.  Using the Minnie heads worked well because Gwen’s name has just four letters.

My favorite font is used is “Cheri” with the cute hearts for the I’s and hearts inside of the O’s.

These are the mason jar drinks that I made for the Minnie Mouse Birthday Party.   They are very easy to make and were a big hit with all the kids & adults.  We served strawberry lemonade in these jars.  The kids had 8 ounce jars and the adults had the larger 12 ounce jars.    The circle emblems are digital cupcake toppers that I got from the same shop as the pattern papers used in the banner.   I have something else planned for top of the birthday cupcakes so these cute circles are perfect to use on the front of the mason jar drinks. 

I printed the pink & black chevron patterns on 12×12 paper then cut out circles with the silhouette.  I used a hole punch to in the metal lid to add an opening for the straw. I alternated the colors of the chevrons, straws and ribbons to have a mix of the pink/white with the black/white.

I made food signs for all the dishes served at the party  I’ll share the full set of food signs in a future post but here’s a sneak peek.  Used the same digital paper seen the banner as the background and cut out the small Minnie shape in the upper right corner with my super small circle punch. 

Minnie is so cute doing her little dance.   This was a fun (and easy) project to make because I hadn’t done anything like this before.  Hope you get the chance to try making these DIY mason jar drinks for your next event!  The best part is they are reusable, I am planning to use them again next time!

Here’s the Minnie Mouse banner from Gwen’s second birthday party.  I used my Silhouette to cut all of the shapes and the background paper is digital paper printed on my printer.    For the Minnie Mouse birthday party I choose to use pink & blue colors so it was very important to find coordinating paper in these colors.   I was thrilled to find a great set of papers in the perfect pink and blue colors from Lane + May Studio on Etsy.

I wanted to use pattern papers and cut out big thick letters to put on top of the patterns.  This set of papers has 24 different designs and I used just about all of them (except the two animal prints).

Here’s how I made this DIY banner:

• Printed the digital paper pack onto white 12×12 cardstock.  Amy from Lane + May Studio helped adjust the colors so that when I printed the digital papers the pink came out the perfect shade.  I really appreciated her willingness to help make it perfect so that it would match the rest of the colors, like the pink in the ribbon wreath.  Printers can be difficult because they all interpret colors differently.
• Made black heart paper (from the blue heart paper) because I needed another black print.

• Cut scalloped circle shape on the Silhouette – 5 Scalloped circles (by Lori Whitlock)
• Size – outside circle is 5.5 inches, inside is 5.0 inches
• The outside of the blue & pink papers are mounted on black cardstock.  The black didn’t look right for the black/white patterns and some of the Minnie patterns so I made some solid pink and solid blue backgrounds to mount these pieces.

• Used two pieces of organza ribbon in between the scalloped circles

• Popped up the letters with three pop dots on the back of the letters

• The raised dots help make the letters show up nice on the paper.  Here’s a detail view showing how much it lifts the letters up off the paper.
