Latest Google Penguin 4.0 UPDATE:

Google Penguin Real Time Algo which had started rolling out on Sep 23, 2016 has now fully rolled out to all Google Data centers

FACTS About Google Penguin 4.0 Algorithm:

Penguin is coined a “web spam” algorithm, but it indeed focuses mostly on “link spam.” Google has continually told webmasters that this is a web spam algorithm, but every webmaster and SEO focuses mostly around links. Google’s Gary Illyes said their focus is right, that they should be mostly concerned with the links when tackling Penguin issues.

What Google says here is that Penguin algo is based on source site and not on the target site. You must be concerned from where the links are coming the source.

The links must be of quality when compared to the low quality sites.

Gary says Google just devalues those links, so instead of demoting a site, google just ignores that links, doesn't count those links at all.

However Garry explains further here:

Gary Illyes: It’s not just links. It looks at a bunch of different things related to the source site. Links is just the most visible thing and the one that we decided to talk most about because we already talked about about links in general.

But it looks at different things on the source site, not on the target site, and then makes decisions based on those special signals.

But he also mentions that if you overdo then there can be Manual Penalty on your site, so its best to find good link resources and list bad links via disavow tool.

Google has said "Penguin is now more granular. Penguin now devalues spam by adjusting ranking based on spam signals, rather than affecting ranking of the whole site"

Google has just recently pushed the new Google Algo and the most awaited SEARCH UPDATE: GOOGLE PENGUIN 2.0 which Google call.

What Matt Cutts says on his blog as under:

We started rolling out the next generation of the Penguin webspam algorithm this afternoon (May 22, 2013), and the rollout is now complete. About 2.3% of English-US queries are affected to the degree that a regular user might notice. The change has also finished rolling out for other languages world-wide. The scope of Penguin varies by language, e.g. languages with more webspam will see more impact.

This is the fourth Penguin-related launch Google has done, but because this is an updated algorithm (not just a data refresh), we’ve been referring to this change as Penguin 2.0 internally.

Matt Cutts, Google’s head of search spam has said that from now on panda algorithm will be integrated into search. Earlier it was manual push, now it will be like real time updates. But those changes won't be noticeable as google is rebuilding its index.

Page Layout update is referred to as the “above the fold” update.

Sites which doesn't have much content “above-the-fold” can be affected by this change. So if you place more adds on top of the page rather than the actual content then this algo will be applied. If you click on a website and the part of the website you see first either doesn’t have a lot of visible content above-the-fold or dedicates a large fraction of the site’s initial screen real estate to ads, that’s not a very good user experience. Such sites may not rank as highly going forward.

Recovery Tips for Google Penguin Updates

I have collected some tips here.

1. Avoid hidden text or hidden links.

2. Don’t use cloaking or sneaky redirects.

3. Don’t send automated queries to Google.

4. Don’t load pages with irrelevant keywords.

5. Don’t create multiple pages, subdomains, or domains with substantially duplicate content.

6. Don’t create pages with malicious behavior, such as phishing or installing viruses, trojans, or other badware.

7. Avoid “doorway” pages created just for search engines, or other “cookie cutter” approaches such as affiliate programs with little or no original content.

8. If your site participates in an affiliate program, make sure that your site adds value. Provide unique and relevant content that gives users a reason to visit your site first.

One of the Point which is not clear to me:

Don’t use unauthorized computer programs to submit pages, check rankings, etc. Such programs consume computing resources and violate our Terms of Service. Google does not recommend the use of products such as WebPosition Gold™ that send automatic or programmatic queries to Google.

Answer:

Normally many SEO's use rank checker or different types of software to check rankings, so will checking ranking via software will affect rankings ?

MY suggestions:

To build links natural way, to build via quality content rather than sticking to the actual keywords. Its hard but that's the only option as of now. What i also feel is that google considers fresh pages, fresh content, fresh links, old quality based links which has content related to your subject.

PENGUIN UPDATE! Latest GOOGLE ALGORITHM Update as on APRIL 2012 24 Update

There has been widespread reports about the latest algorithm called "webspam update" which is now said to be called as the PENGUIN UPDATE.

I have found that many say this algo is a total failure as webspam update was released to fight webspam and spam sites to reduce rankings for such sites. But in the process many legitimate sites rankings have gone down or have vanised from the top 100 lists.

Domain Classifier update - MISTAKEN Update by google which google then clarified

Google's spam update has done much damage to legitimate sites than spam sites. I have also discovered that ecommerce sites are less hit by the udpate than the service sector sites.

Google Algo Penguin Updates Questions ?

Is off page more important than on page ?
Is backlinks from social bookmarking sites like folkd.com will be devalued? As many social sites have lost traffic during this update.
Is Blog commenting termed as spam ? Does blog commenting from legitimate sites is also spam?
Is Forum signature links completely dead
If a website doesn't do SEO then also will a site rank ? ( Becz as per matt cutts he says that even if one doesn't do SEO then also its better)

Google wants to make sharing online more like sharing in real life - different things with different people. As the name suggests, this feature is all about hanging out with your buddies, virtually, or couse. You can choose specific friends, or circles, to invite for a face-to-face video chat and anyone in the Hangout can invite others to join as well. According to Google's demo: "Until teleportation arrives, it's the next best thing". We're not sure about that - it's basically just video calling.

You know when you're trying to arrange a night out by having several different text conversations with a number of friends? If so, you'll know how long-winded and confusing it can become. The idea behind Huddle is that you can turn all these exchanges into one big group chat to save you time.

Privacy
Most social networks, Facebook included, have run into trouble over privacy concerns at some point or another, so what is Google+ doing to address it? You'll be able to alter your visibility settings so that only your name and photo will appear online to people that aren't in your network. However, if you're in a circle on a friend's public profile, then your picture will appear on there (but clicking on it wouldn't go anyway if your privacy settings are on). You'll be able to assign different levels of visibility to different aspects of your profile. You can also choose whether your profile is indexed by search engines and, as with Facebook, you'll be able to block people

Backing up data

One of the biggest worries with uploading photos to Facebook is that one day the site will retire from public life, taking our cherished memories with it. Obviously canny computer users already make sure that anything they upload is backed up at home and likewise, Google+ has recognised that we don't all want to live exclusively in the clouds.

You can use Google Takeout (google.com/takeout) to download data from your Google+ products to your home computer - that includes PicasaWeb albums and photos, your Google profile, Google Contacts, Stream and er, Google Buzz.

Mobile

Supported by the Chrome, IE, Firefox and Safari browsers, Google+ will also be available on mobile devices - a vital element for any social networking platform. As well as sharing your thoughts and location from your mobile, you'll be able to check into places and make use of the group messaging feature, Huddle.

Making photo-sharing as simple as possible, images and videos taken on your phone will upload themselves automatically to Google+. That might sound a tad scary - what if you don't want everyone to see your snaps or footage? Don't panic - they'll be uploaded directly to a private album and you can then specify who (if anyone) you choose to share them with.

You can already download the Android app and there's an iOS 4+ app due to hit iTunes soon. You can also access the basic Google+ mobile site (m.google.com/app/plus) on Android handsets (1.5+) and Apple devices (iOS 3+) as well as on BlackBerry (6.0+), Nokia/Symbian and Windows Mobile. The Android app currently offers a wider range of functions than you'll see on the mobile sites.

There are no tablet specific versions of the project at present, but this is something that Google plans to work on in the future.

When can I get it?

Google+ can currently only be accessed with a special Field Trial invitation, which Google has been sending out at random to Gmail users. There's no set date for a full launch, but we would guess that it won't be too long before Google+ goes live to everyone. In the meantime, you can check out the demo, as long as you have a Google ID.

The Chromebooks, which aim to compete with rivals like Apple's iPad, are made by Samsung and Acer and range in price from $350 to $500 in the US. Google said they also went on sale in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands.

While the Chromebooks feature webcams and USB ports, they both lack hard drives, envisaging a model in which users will do all their computing online. Users store their files in the cloud using Google's free online software like Picasa for photos, Gmail for email and Google Docs for word processing spread sheets and slide shows.

The computer is activated by using the Google log-in. This means that documents, bookmarks and other preferences remain identical on whatever Chromebook one uses, as well as in different Chrome browsers used on other computers.

Boast an impressive eight hours-plus of battery time, start-up time of less than 10 seconds, and minimal risk of viruses and malware.

Chromebooks won't be right for everyone, but for some users, they'll be a welcome change from the tethered-down and often bloated world of traditional PCs.
