Despite the freezing temperatures of the last days in Europe, and the still gloomy weather, we are now in the spring, at least on paper, since 2013 the spring equinox is on March 20.

To illustrate this new season, here’s a beautiful photo of magnolia. This shrub is often one of the first to bloom in early spring (from February or March for deciduous species). Flowering magnolia is often spectacular, and it brightens our many parks and gardens with large brightly colored flowers sometimes …

Much of photos of the forest of Fontainebleau are among the oldest published on Landscape-Photo.net, some are online since 2006 or 2007.

I have last days replaced many of the photos published in this old album, reworking them from their sources in my archives with DxO Optics Pro, in order to increase the quality of these images.

An oak tree with branches covered with moss, photographed in winter in the forest of Fontainebleau

.

At the time, even with my DSLR (Nikon D50) I took these pictures in jpeg only (the computer I used in 2006 or 2007 was not powerful enough to work on raw files). The PC monitor I also used at that time was himself poor, and was obviously not calibrated. A few years later, an improvement of these photos, those for which it was possible, seemed necessary. Flexibility to correct or improve such photos is much more limited than if they had been taken directly in raw, but I am still surprised with the result I can have with some of them. Tool I used for this job was the latest version of DxO (v8). I had nice results particularly for the photo of the oak tree covered with moss, above, or for this photo of undergrowth in spring, just below:

Undergrowth in spring colors photographed in the forest of Fontainebleau

.

Reminder: pictures in Landscape-Photo.net albums are sorted by default in reverse chronological order, according to date of first upload of each image. Recently published images are at the top of the list, but an old photo that has been recently replaced/updated will still keep the same position in the album.

The sun rises above the rooftops of Paris … A beautiful cityscape shot this winter !

Sunrise over the rooftops of Paris, photographed from Montmartre

To photograph the sunrise or sunset in Paris requires to find an open space and height if possible. By its position and orientation, the top of Montmartre is ideally suited for this exercise, since sunrise and sunset can be easily observed. But it is the sunrise that is most easily observable, the view towards the east of Paris is unobstructed from the heights of square Louise Michel. In addition, tourist sites such as Montmartre are obviously less crowded early in the morning, instead of the end of the day where these places are crowded. Photographing the sunrise is much less embarrassed by the crowd, especially if you want to take wide-angle images, like the photo below, taken a few minutes after sunrise.

Square Louise Michel (Montmartre) shortly after sunrise

On this picture, we can see at the bottom of the square the first groups of tourists who will soon walking the steps to the basilica. Soon the landscape will crowded, and it will be less obvious to enjoy the beauty of this square. These two photos were taken in late December, the sun rising shortly before 9am. At another time of the year, especially during the summer, the sun rises much earlier (around 6 am, according to the date), so crowd cannot be an inconvenience at this early time.

One afternoon in late autumn in a park. The trees are leafless almost all, suggesting the complex ramifications of their branches. The light of the Sun is already raking in this season. But it is at the time of sunset shadows of the trees that are growing the most on the lawn of the park. Some leaves on the grass that have not yet been picked up remind that we’re still in autumn.

Autumn sunset light and tree shadows skimming on the lawn in a park

This photo is made in a park when the sun was setting behind the canopy of trees in the background. Framing the picture with a tree right in front of the sun, to hide the sun, can develop these shadows and leafless trunks and branches of trees, while hinting at the soft and warm light of the sun sunset. Taking pictures at this late hour gives a nice light, and let enjoy in the background a nice sky tinged with pink and orange.
