Northern Connector Meeting This Tuesday at Georgia Mountains Center

We have received an email from the Lake Lanier Community Preservation Association, which is a newly formed group of neighbors committed to sustained involvement in matters impacting North Hall and Lake Lanier. They have asked us to share information on this upcoming meeting about proposed northern connector routes in North Hall which could negatively impact Lake Lanier.

The GHMPO Policy meeting is so important that we want to be sure that everyone knows it is this coming Tuesday, November 10th.

Nov. 10th GHMPO Policy Meeting: We need you there .. and bring a friend!!

Next Tuesday, Nov. 10th, the GHMPO Policy Committee will meet at 10 a.m. at the GA Mountains Center. This is the meeting where final action could be taken on the routes that we want withdrawn from the Northern Connector. We really need to have a strong showing to reinforce the action that we want the committee to take. The impact on elected officials of looking a large number of voters in the eye (especially when making a decision about destroying homes, neighborhoods, etc.) is not to be underestimated.

Remember, there is only one member of the Policy Committee who is appointed by Hall County. We do anticipate that some action, hopefully a formal motion, will be made for the committee to follow the Commissioners' recommendation and drop the routes, yet, it is not a given that they will.

Our intent is to solicit concerned citizens, like yourself, to be on hand to encourage them to disregard these routes now and in the future. So come if at all possible; if you absolutely cannot - find someone to come in your place.

Just like the meeting - numbers speak volumes to elected officials. We are targeting Tuesday's meeting to deliver the petition to the Policy Committee. If you have not signed - please do. There is a comment field as well if you want to say why you are opposed to the routes.

Quest for Lula - Redux - Lake Lanier Geocache

Park at N34° 24.918′, W083° 42.432 (Lula Park) and follow the river.
ANY kind of boat would make this much easier.

This park is a hotbed for boat launching, now that the river has again reached full levels.
This is the same cache as the now archived ‘Quest for Lula’, except it is now a single stage, instead of a multi-stage. It was placed as a multi to lead cachers under the bridge to cross the road from parking, instead of running across the highway, but no one did. (And stage 2 was a booger to maintain anyway)
NOTE: Hunting is allowed nearby, and shots have been heard in the distance, so bring your Orange Vest and be safe. If you stay by the river, you’ll be OK. If you don’t … you’ll be trespassing.
Previous finders are welcome to hunt and log this one also. Safe cachin’

Fishing is good on Lanier!

I made it out yesterday for a few hours in the yak and was greeted by busting stripers everywhere! The only problem is they didn't want what I was throwing at them! These fish were in small groups and were having a frenzy feeding on small shad. It was awesome to watch these fish even if the catching wasn't that good! Several boats and yaks in the area boated one or two fish but that was about it!

I later got on the same spoon pattern that has been producing and boated several nice spots before heading home. I plan to get back out next week and try some downsized tactics for the stripers!

Straight forward cache, no puzzles here or chasing micros in the woods. The coords were averaged 200 times. Rated a 2/2…. not far off pavement but bushwacking required in the summer. The cache name is the park where this one is located, as well as a couple of other really great caches. You will have to park outside the gate but its a short walk to the cache.

You will be looking for a fallen giant. The cache is hidden from view, only the truly curious will have a chance of seeing it. All cachers should look before they leap and in this case poke around a bit before grabbing the cache. We have placed a nice FTF in the cache as well as stuff for the small kids and big kids as well. Some wooden nickels, geopatch, geopin,and geosticker round out the swag inventory.

Have fun and find the other 2 caches in this park.

The North Georgia Trout Online (www.ngto.org) Fall Fling is this Saturday at the Buford Trout Hatchery. The Fall Fling is NGTO's biggest annual Fundraiser. Without this event they wouldn't be able to do things like help the DNR buy stocking tubes for the river, assist with river-clean-ups, sponsor kids at TU Trout Camp, run the Annual KFD at Azalea Park, sponsor Trout in the Classroom, etc... show your support by coming out and enjoying the day! This is a free event, open to the public.
