BLSA’s Thanksgiving Food Drive nourishes needy families

The Black Law Students Association's 19th annual Thanksgiving Food Drive is in full swing. With the support of the law school, the university and the greater Lawrence community, BLSA has fed more than 1,500 needy Lawrence residents each year. Faculty, staff, students – even alumni – are encouraged to donate nonperishable food items or cash this holiday season.

NALSA seeking donations for annual toy drive

The Native American Law Students Association's Toy Drive runs through Dec. 4. Donors may drop off toys in the box in the student commons and become part of NALSA’s efforts to make the holidays a little brighter for Lawrence area children.

Former independent counsel Ken Starr to speak at KU law school

Ken Starr, the former independent counsel whose investigations led to the impeachment of President Bill Clinton, will give a public talk next week at the University of Kansas School of Law. Starr will speak at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, at the Stinson Morrison Hecker Lecture Hall in 104 Green Hall. The event is free and open to the public, and lunch will be provided.

KU law students take second in National Criminal Procedure Tournament

Third-year law students Bonnie Boryca and Stephanie Lovett-Bowman rose to the top of a field of 40 teams from law schools across the country at the annual competition, held Nov. 5-7 at the University of San Diego School of Law. Boryca and Lovett-Bowman beat Boston College in the semifinals and then lost to Stanford in the final round.

Two law alumnae on 'most powerful women in Washington' list

Sheila Bair, L'78, and Janet Murguia, L'85, are on a new list of the 100 most powerful women in the nation's capital, according to Washingtonian magazine. Bair is chair of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, and Murguia is president of the National Council of La Raza.
