But more precisely a little piece of rock we call the moon. People are going crazy over the fact that forty years ago we put a man on the moon (allegedly).

Well woopdefuckindo. What have we accomplished since then?

Everybody knows it was done just to prove that America was better than the USSR and when that threat evaporated, so did the space race.

Guess what, now there are five nations clamouring to put a base on the moon, so that astronauts get a chance to play golf or something. And all of a sudden the space race is alive again. Great! I hear you cry. A bit fucking late, is my response.

It took nine years for America to put someone on the moon, by now we could have at least reached Saturn! We're living in 2009 for gods sake and I haven't even got the 2001 lifestyle that was promised me.

So for all present I'm posting this celebratory sketch of a still from 2001 A space odessey ... get a move on guys.

I'm constantly getting invited to be a contributing artist in art books, museums and what not. But guess what, I have to pay a motherucking godamn fee for the privelidge. What a bull$#!+ moneymaking scam! It's bad enough that the art world is saturated with talent and it's nigh on impossible to get noticed without being preyed upon by unscrupulous nobends.

You should never have to pay to get in a mag so don't fall for it guys. Watch your backs.

Yamagata's t-shirt

Remember that guy Yamagata from the film Akira? Of course you do, he's Kaneda's friend and gets killed in the bar by Tetsuo.

Well I loved his tshirt so much so that I copied the image and got them printed onto some tees. I did three different colour versions to depict the lighting in the film, here are two of them.

They look so good on black or white tees. Unfortunately this version is pretty low res but feel free to convert it to vector and slap it on a piece of that cheap transfer paper and iron it on one of your spare t shirts.

I loved doing these but it was back in the day of video cassettes when fast forward and pause were a pain. You kids don't know how lucky you are!

Commercial ripping rears it's ugly head

I was in a shopping centre when I spotted a pretty illustration on a shop window. I don't know why or how but a couple of days later I was surfing on the internet when I came across the same picture on the artists site. There were a few differences, the main one being that the original on the artists site had been produced for a company, complete with company logos, which had no affiliation with the shop where I saw the picture. I thought it was a bit strange that the same image (minus logos) was being used for two different companies. So I sent the artist an email with a picture of the shop window. Unfortunately it turned out the artist had no connection with the second company and they were using the image illegally (all over their website too).

It's such a shame that this is happening. Someone had to go into the image to remove the original logos and change the background. I really hope the artist manages to resolve this. But, honestly, it was pure luck that it was discovered.

All I can say is that if you find yourself in the same situation then please send an email to inform the artist. It doesn't cost anything and an artist doesn't necessarily know everything that their image is being used for. I happen to be living in a different country to where the artist was based so they would have probably never been alerted.

I am vexed.

After spending an age on this piece, from drawing to photoshop, and liking the end result (which doesn't often happen). I put the lo res on deviantart and then my computer went up in smoke. All I'm left with now is this small size, which doesn't show any of the lovely details.

Sometimes, just sometimes, computers are more trouble than they're worth.

Carnaval - Japanese style

There is a very large Japanese community living in Brazil so we get a lot of Japanese related programmes and news items. This morning I found out about the Kishiwada Danjiri Festival. What began as a dedication to Inari, the fox god of the harvest, has turned into a completely crazy race.

The different neighbourhoods of Kishiwada spend a year creating intricately carved wooden floats and then spend two days tearing round the streets of the town on these moveable shrines that weigh 4 tons. They are pulled by as many as 500 to 1000 people. The best parts are the high speed accidents that occur as they are dragged around narrow roads and street corners, crashing into buildings and sometimes completely falling over.

I haven't found a decent video from this years festival and this one from '97 doesn't really do justice to what I saw on TV. Guys falling off the roof and carts knocking over telephone poles.
