Capture that perfect shot of sunrise and sunset

They happen every day. But, how often do you really take the time to sit back and soak in a good sunset? What about sunrise? While it's tough to think about getting up early enough on busy days, rarely would it be considered "not worth it". The rewards are remarkable.

This time of year makes sunset particularly awesome because they happen later in the evening, and the warmer weather means staying outside and witnessing a sunset while out and about.

Getting good pictures of sunset and sunrise is not that difficult. Most of the time, the images cannot help be anything but beautiful, but these handy and insightful tips will get you shooting EPIC pictures of sunset.

As the Community Manager for Kodak TPX, I am always looking for content that is relevant, and useful.

These tips on Sunrises and Sunsets will help give you food for thought as you set out on your journey for a great shot.

Dippy Eggs and Photo Books

We recently had a family gathering for brunch. It was a special occasion so bagels & cream cheese weren't going to cut it. I had pinned a cool idea for dippy eggs on to my Pinterest boards and the chef of the family wanted to give it a try.

I don't even eat dippy eggs but I was starting to get excited when I saw them bubbling up in the pan.

I started taking more pictures and although it's a huge cliché, I couldn't help but take a picture of my plate with all the yummy brunch food. And as I was arranging all the food to make a prettier picture I heard my sister say, "You know that's going to be posted somewhere." Well, she was right but first I wanted to use Instagram for this one:

I also took lots of other pictures throughout the day and posted them to FACEBOOK so the rest of my family out of state could see them too. To remember the day I wanted to turn them into a Photo Book, using the My KODAK MOMENTS App on FACEBOOK. The App lets you bring to life the pictures you have on FACEBOOK, so you can get prints or Photo Books of various sizes. And since all of my INSTAGRAM Pictures are automatically posted together in a folder on FACEBOOK, it's really easy to use these in a Photo Book as well.

The small Photo Book is especially perfect for Instagram Photos because the square picture fits just right on the page. If you put the book together like I did you can fit 14 pictures if you do one on each page, which makes it a good choice when you're making a book to remember an event like I did, or maybe even a certain topic, like pictures of your pets, a trip to the zoo or your collection of garden gnomes.

The My KODAK MOMENTS App also lets you share your Photo Book on FACEBOOK and your friends (or relatives who are also "friends") can order their own copy. And with the special promotion that's running now, a small Photo Book is only $5 including free shipping so it was a no brainer.

Ingredients

Sweet peppers sliced ½" thick
Eggs
Non-stick spray or butter for pan

Heat pan to medium hot & use non-stick spray. Place pepper slices in pan and cook slightly to avoid the oozing out the sides that we experienced. Crack one egg into each pepper slice. Add a small amount of water to pan and cover until eggs are cooked.

The Black and White Photography Challenge is humming!

I knew this would be the case. Had no question. The truth is, peeps love to shoot in black and white. Whether it's film, digital, Instagram, or whatever, we can all agree that Black and White lends a unique feeling to a picture that you just cannot describe, and you really can't achieve in color.

We love to do photography challenges in Kodak TPX. It generates a lot of engagement, and gives the community a chance to see other people's perspectives on any given subject. The idea behind the challenge is that it's not really a "challenge" at all. It's a call to action for you to share the best you've got on any given theme.

Below, I have chosen three photos from the challenge that are super extraordinary.

When I looked at them, I wondered if they would be as extraordinary if they were shot in color. Perhaps, given these photographers are inherently extraordinary anyway. But, my gut tells me that these photos were meant for Black and White.

Enjoy these, and be inspired. Come on over and join the challenge.

What do you give to the girl who makes everything and is so super creative? That was my dilemma with Jenny's birthday this year. I wanted to make her something, but it had to be unique, creative and special. And of course something she has not made in the past. Conclusion - photo word sign.

A few years ago I began to see words spelled with photos of objects which looked like letters. What a great idea! So the quest to start photographing objects began.

The great thing was I began to carry my camera with me everywhere I went. Everything I was looking at I was searching for a letter. I have built up a little collection of letters and it is still growing!

It is really easy to make.

Take pictures all the same orientation, I chose vertical but either works.
Covert them into black and white, and print!
Put the prints in glass frames - I found 4x6 glass clip frames which work perfect for this project.
Finally, find a piece of board, measure it longer than the length of the word. Cut it and paint it.
To attach the photos I used word glue
It can hang on the wall with wire or if you would like to sit on a table make two blocks with the left over wood and glue to the first and last letter

One thing I need to start doing is writing on the pictures where they were taken.

Pets are Kids Too!

Like most mom's I receive cards from my kids on Mother's day with their own element of creative added to each card. My kids just happen to have four legs so they need a little extra help in creating the purrrfect cards. Every year I receive two cards, one from the dog and one from the cats, signed with their muddy paw prints and I love each card dearly!

This year is going to be even easier for Jamie to create a photo card from the little guys. And hopefully reduce the amount of mud on the floor :)

All he will have to do is walk into the CVS around the corner, he doesn't even have to find or figure out where pictures are. He can simply log onto Facebook, pick pictures of our babies, add them to a card and print – piece of cake!

They can ever customized on the inside with a message and additional photos - Jamie can be creative here, I don't want to do all the work for him.

Of course on the back of the cards can have a Created By included.

I also found an ideal card for my mother, she is so proud of her grand babies and she will actually frame the card because it has pictures!

New Project Templates for Mother's Day in Rocket Life Software!!

I don't know about you, but I am always looking for ideas to make Mother's Day extra special.

I was thrilled to see all of the new, pretty templates when I launched the PrintProjects software by RocketLife!! If you have not already used the software, I recommend you do. I have used quite a few different packages throughout the years, and I have found that PrintProjects really lets your inner-creative loose, but without worrying that you may mess something up!

I decided to try my hand at three unique projects.

This wirebound calendar is really pretty. Granted, May is a bit late to be giving a calendar to someone, but, I had to try it. This one requires several photos, but what I found really nice is that you can decide color palettes and themes for the extra personal touch. You can also input important dates like birthdays and anniversaries.

The Key Tag shown here is also a really cute idea. It's incredibly easy to make, and is very affordable!

Lastly, I decided to go traditional, and make a Folded Greeting Card. I like this option because it is so practical, and you can print at home on your ink jet printer.

Mother's Day is a holiday that's very close to my heart. As a Stationery Designer, I was thinking about Mother's Day months ago, when I was working on my new greeting card collection. As a daughter, I am only now getting my act together on what to give to my own mom! I love and truly appreciate my mother tremendously, but the day-to-day hustle of work and everyday life had me running a bit late on what to do for her…

So, off to Target I went, with the kids, straight from the school bus. My mom absolutely adores her grandchildren and treasures every photo we give her, so I knew that creating a custom photo card for her for Mother's Day would be absolutely perfect! My mom proudly displays all of her greeting cards, so we knew that she'd be thrilled to have a special new card from her grandchildren. It's so much fun to look at the photo cards from year to year and see how the children have changed! (Of course, moms still look the same year after year. :)

With three little boys, it's hard to get them all to stay still for one "perfect" photo! I love that the cards at the Kodak Photo Kiosks allow you to use multiple photos on a single card.

My kids love to play with the feature that enables you to turn a color photo black & white, or even sepia. What a fun effect! Grandma will love it!

My kids absolutely love using the Kodak Picture Kiosks at Target. They have fun getting creative with the different layout options, and the functionality is extremely easy to use. My favorite part is that I can upload our photos directly from my Facebook account without even using a wire! As a busy mom, this is much easier than taking the time to gather loose photos or save them on a memory stick. Also, as a mom who usually waits for the last minute to do my gift shopping, it's amazing to be able to design a custom card in minutes, and then pick it up right on the spot! Being a "supermom" is indeed possible, with the right help!

If you're anything at all like me, you admire people who are the crafty types that can just whip up a handmade this or that out of thin air, but could never do anything remotely similar on your own. Yes, I can relate.

Transformed by Our Response to Racism

I have witnessed racism first hand, both personally and in my professional life. We know that racism happens throughout the world, but I need neither be a business leader nor a person of Hispanic heritage to have been touched and transformed by our response to racism.

Everyone experiences racism in one form or another. How it impacts us may differ, but to combat racism, we must all take a stand -- and it starts with awareness.

Kodak is one of hundreds of organizations that have raised their hands in support of the YWCA's mission and vision statement, "The YWCA is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all."

In what has become a movement that we observe annually, the April 27 "Stand Against Racism" observance asks companies, universities, schools, and other organizations to hold an event, private or public, where participants gather to take a pledge to work against racism. You can learn more about this endeavor at www.standagainstracism.org.

Kodak's stand against racism takes place every day. As our company's Chief Diversity and Community Relations Officer, I and Kodak's senior executives lead our efforts to ensure that our workplaces are free of harassment, and that our employees are treated with dignity, fairness, and respect. iPhone App's Print to Store Test Run

A few days ago Kodak Gallery released an updated version of our iPhone App which you can now use to order Premium Prints for Same-Day Pickup at your local Target and CVS right from your iPhone. We're pretty excited about this. Not only is being able to order prints our most requested feature, but we're the only major online photo service that lets you do that.

Before we made the update live in the App Store, myself and a few Kodak Gallery employees who were in the know gave it a test run.

Morgan, our first guinea pig, had just taken a day trip to San Francisco and wanted some prints of her adventure. After logging into the App, she found her trip's album and selects her favorite photos.

She used the app to find the closest Target to her, placed her order for Same-Day Pickup, and stopped by on her way home to pick them up at the photo counter. We were all excited to hear how simple and easy it went!

Later, another coworker Beth decided to give the app an unofficial speed run when she was running late for a birthday party. To get started, she placed her print order right from a CVS parking lot.

Since her prints went straight from her iPhone to the store, she was able to pick them up after a short lap around the store, and was back on her way in no time.

Oh, and the birthday? It was for Beth's 20 year old cat. (Yes, 20!)

In addition to ordering prints, you can also share photos with friends in a Group Album, download photos from your Gallery account to your phone, and a whole lot of other cool stuff. 'Bark, bark', Kodak: A Thousand Words blog readers.

Clearwater's Freeport Seeket here! Our mama has been laid up for awhile with hand surgery, so Kodak's Chief Blogger, Jenny Cisney, thought that Mr. Cooper, Penny and I should write the blog this month! How fun!

I don't know where to start!? We have been so busy these last couple of months before mama's surgery, and afterwards, taking care of her.

"Tell them about me!"

"I will in a minute, Penny. Patience."

Our Aunt Carol and Uncle Dick came over for dinner before their annual trip down to Florida. (I wonder if they have to "go" on the grass like we do, when we travel.)

My brother, Mr. Cooper, as usual, kept hogging Uncle Dick and Aunt Carol's attention as you can tell by the pictures.

Penny and I did get to say bye. As you can see, I am much more the gentleman in the group, while Cooper and Penny embarrassed me with their pawing all over them!

"Tell them about me!"

"I will, Penny. Just relax."

Mama also made some jewelry for Kris and Crystal's upcoming wedding in May. She did a real good job and Penny didn't even eat them!

From what I heard mama telling Crystal about the bracelets is that they are the colors of the wedding and there is one for each of them and my 3 cousins, "linked together in love" is what she said.

"Tell them about me!"

"Not yet, Penny."

Papa and mama took us out to Lollypop Farm one day to visit with a woman from Make A Wish foundation. She wanted to spend some time with dogs. WE LOVE MAKING OTHERS FEEL GOOD! Here is a picture of me and my brother waiting with papa. See how patient we are?

On the way out, mama saw a Kodak Kiosk in the lobby and grabbed this picture of my brother and sister (I was outside getting busy). Mama calls this a "Kodak Moment."

Cooper and Penny also got to go with mama and papa to the Lollypop telethon at Eastview Mall. (I had to stay home and guard the bed; I MEAN THE HOUSE!) Here are a couple of pictures that the Lollypop Staff Photographer took of them.

The days were getting closer for mama's surgery, but we were able to do one more R.E.A.D. program at School 12 for the kids. WE LOVE HAVING THE CHILDREN READ TO US! Mama got a picture of all of us with Marcia (one of our bestest friends) and Gina (one of our other bestest friends!)

And, the week before mama's surgery, her and Marcia (did I tell you she is one of our bestest friends?) took all three of us to college, a place called MCC! We got to go into a real classroom where everyone wanted to sit on the floor with us!

It was Gina's mama's class. (Did I tell you that Gina and Pam are one of our other bestest friends!?) Mama and Marcia talked about us the whole time we were there. With the door closed, we all got to walk around and visit with the students. My brother, as usual, had to show off and snuggle with mama then get his belly rubbed (oh, how embarrassing it was for me!)

"Make sure you show them how well behaved I was for mama!"

"Penny, please!"

"And don't forget to tell them about me!"

"Ebb Tide's Penobscot Bay-B! That will be quite enough!"

One day, unexpectedly, we went over to Karen's house (she is one of our bestest friends!). She had emergency surgery and needed some extra loving so mama brought us over (with some wine and licorice!) WE LOVE MAKING OTHERS FEEL GOOD! Karen said it was such a nice day out that we went into her back yard and got to run around. I liked it there because she had a shady porch where I could hang out. Penny, on the other hand, wanted to go in the house and sit with Jeff to watch basketball on that funny square box.

"PLEASE, BROTHER, TELL THEM ABOUT ME!"

"One more story, Penny, and then I'll tell them about you."

One day mama was so excited. She and papa piled us into the car and off we took! We didn't know where we were going, but we could tell it was going to be someplace special! All of a sudden papa pulled into a place where I know brother and I had been before – Kristin Elliott's house! (Did I tell you we LOVE Kristin and her family?!) I was the first one to meet her a few years ago. She was selling packs that I could wear. She calls them "Doodie Packs", and mama bought me one. I always love wearing it when we go on trips and visits. Cooper got one too, then Penny when she finally grew up. What were we doing here, I wondered? Mama and papa went into the house and left us out in the car. Pretty soon papa came out and let us out to run around in the unexpected newly fallen snow. Then our leashes went on and papa brought us into the house! (We've NEVER been in her house before!) There were all sorts of strangers there, but Payton, Savannah and Carlee were there, and we knew them (did I tell you we LOVE Kristen's children?!)

Next thing I know mama is putting our Doodie Pack on which ALWAYS tells me that I'm going to be working, so I have to be on my bestest behavior. Kristin and Ally (our Cocker Spaniel bestest friend) came out and we all got to sit around her on the couch. Penny and Cooper even got to sit ON the couch! Mama kept telling us to 'sit and stay' and some guy was flashing lights in our eyes. I was the best behaved. Mr. Cooper was his usual 'ham'. And Penny; well Penny was tired and just wanted to lie down.

I heard mama and Kristin talking and they said we were going to be on the cover of a magazine called Rochester Woman Magazine in the April 2012 edition. Kristin was going to be highlighted about her creation the "Doodie Packs", and we were going to be on the cover with her! Mama was so proud of us, I could just tell. And I think we did good for her. She made a photo of the cover so you could see, but you can also get your own copy right from the magazine!

"Now, brother, NOW?!"

"OK, Penny, now."

Mama's surgery day came and papa left us at home to take her to the surgery place. When she came home, we all ran up to her to make sure she was OK and to let her know we missed her. Penny (ok, girl, here it comes!) being the little nursemaid that she is, quickly ran to where mama was sitting, jumped up and laid her head on mama's hand. I know she does this so she can protect it from getting hurt again. She is such a mama's girl, but we love her!

When mama was finally able to take a shower by herself Penny was right there to help her in the shower, just in case. Wet head and all!

"Thank you, brother - I love you!"

"I love you too, Penny."

Because mama was home from work, and papa was home to do what we couldn't do to take care of her, we got to go see Harry a lot (did I tell you Harry is my bestest friend in the whole world?!) I can tell that Harry is not doing too good, so I made sure we all gave him extra snuggles and kisses. We even got to lay with him in his bed!

One day he even played tug with me. I was SO happy. I Love Harry!

Penny and Cooper always keep a watchful eye on him and Penny even got to lick his plate clean one day, lucky her!

YOU CAUGHT ME!

We spend a lot of time with Harry. I wish you could meet him because he is such a swell person. I am very happy that mama brought us over to visit with him.

And, finally, Easter came! We did lots of visiting with my mommy and daddy (I LOVE MY MOMMY AND DADDY!) in Gasport. Then we came home and had all of my cousins come for dinner. Mr. Cooper got extra hugs,

Penny got to help out while the younger ones took a bath,

But I got to do what I do best - I know it is why I am here - I got to protect my little charges from getting hurt. Papa and mama left two of the littlest ones on the couch, sleeping, so my job, which I know instinctively, is to keep them from falling off.

Of course, it was supper time, so I had to quick run over to eat my dinner (didn't want to disappoint mama by not eating) then I had to RUN back and take my position by my girls. Luckily, nothing happened in those few SECONDS it took me to eat! I LOVE MY JOB!

I know I barked on and on, but I don't get to do this too often. Actually, this is the first time I got to do this! I'll have to do it again soon!

Kodak Gallery's Pinterest Inspiration

Where do you go for inspiration? If you're like me and 20 million other users, inspiration is just a pin, repin, or style-board away on Pinterest. Pinterest is the new darling of the social media world that allows you to create a virtual "pinboard" showcasing images you collected from around the web. It's like being both editor and publisher of your own style magazine.

However, I didn't start out a Pinterest lover. After hearing all the buzz, I finally decided to poke around a bit. One of the first boards I stumbled upon was simply titled, "Doors." Not a topic near and dear to my heart, but I took a peek inside and saw a stunning collection of door images from around the world. The curator of this board had clearly put in countless hours assembling this lovely collection. I was amazed at how creative people could be, and got hooked!

I kept that kind of passion in mind when I started the Kodak Gallery Pinterest boards. My goal is to delight and inspire with beautiful, unique and clever images. Our collection of boards are a continual work in progress because there's a seemingly endless supply of imaginative ideas across the web. We've just scratched the surface with boards like Photo Project Ideas, Mobile Made Easy, Spring Inspirations, Wedding Inspirations, Graduation, Travel and our popular KODAK Moment of the Month full of photography from our fans, and sometimes we'll even ask users to "like" their favorite photo to help us pick a monthly winner.

Strike A Family Pose is my personal favorite. Anyone who has ever tried to gather the family for a special photograph knows how truly difficult it is to create something unique. My goal is to grow this little board into a fun collection of poses that provides ideas for future family photo opportunities. Here's a peak:

This Earth Day Save Energy By Printing A Picture

Did you know that Earth Day was originally declared in 1970 as a "national environmental teach-in" day? Today I'm here to teach you about the environmental benefits of our KODAK Picture Kiosks.

The Kiosk uses digital print technology. This technology eliminates the need to print pictures with water and processing chemicals, which means your retailer doesn't have to worry about chemical storage and disposal. Removing the processing chemicals from printing also translates into less energy used when compared to traditional photo processing.

Kodak Inkjet and Sustainability

As we approach Earth Day I would like to highlight some of the green aspects of Kodak Inkjet Printers and Printing Supplies.

All Kodak AiO printer models provide:

30% lower energy usage below the Energy Star Sleep Target (i.e. when you allow your printer to go into sleep mode after 60 minutes of non-operation)

50% lower energy usage below the Energy Star Standby Target (i.e. when you power off the printer using front panel power button)

KODAK ESP3250 and ESP 5250 All-in-One Printers are ENERGY STAR certified and include features such as manual two-sided printing and multiple-pages-per-sheet functionality. In "Standby" mode, both printers use less than one watt of power.

The retail printer product package is 14% smaller than previous generation demonstrating natural resource reduction, maximizing pallet efficiency and reducing emissions for delivery to retail channels.

KODAK ESP7250 and ESP Office 6150 All-in-One Printers are ENERGY STAR certified and include features such as automatic two-sided printing. In "Standby" mode, both printers use less than one watt of power.

Kodak All-in-One Printers include an intelligent paper handling system with built-in sensors that reads paper type and optimizes output quality. This feature helps to reduce the need to reprint ultimately reducing paper waste.

Ink Cartridges:

KODAK ink cartridges are made of recyclable materials.

KODAK's cartridge return program is offered in the US & Canada. Consumers can drop off empty cartridges in bins at retail locations where Kodak inkjet products are sold. The cartridges are collected, the metal integrated circuit chip is removed and returned to Kodak for re-use and the remaining plastic is recycled into lower grade plastic products.

Photo papers sold in the Americas and Europe are derived from renewable sources and are forest management scheme accredited through the Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).

This is a sign that our papers are derived from forests that are managed in an environmentally responsible way backed by a rigorous third-party certification audit.

Being green & an Earth Day printable

I try to do what I can to be green and sustainable at home. I recycle and have ventured into some other areas...

I got a composter, a rain barrel, started a veggie garden and bike where I can.

I was going to say that I plant a tree every Earth Day but after looking at these pictures I should probably say "My husband plants a tree every Earth Day, while I stand and watch."

The other thing I do that I consider green is... taking pictures. I don't know where it originated from but there is a phrase I love, often posted at parks, "Take only pictures. Leave only footprints." Indeed I do love to capture images of nature... flora and fauna... with my camera.

It's an appreciation of the Earth. While spending time outdoors, I am capturing memories of my surroundings to be remembered later on. Hopefully these scenes will be around for others to enjoy for a very long time.

Myths and Facts about Printing and Paper

This week we celebrate Earth Week, a time to increase awareness and appreciation for the earth. In celebration of Earth Week we wanted to share information about the myths and facts about printing and paper.

We have all heard it, "Go paperless, go green, save trees" But what is the truth about printing and paper? Two Sides website shares the Myths and Facts with us.

Myth:

Print and paper is a wasteful product.

Fact:

Paper is one of the most recycled products in the world.

In 2010, 63% of paper products were recycled; this is an 89% increase since 1990. Paper products are recycled more than plastics (7%), glass (25.5%) and metal (7%).

Myth:

Making paper destroys forests.

Fact:

Paper production supports sustainable forest management.

More trees are grown in the US than are used for paper manufacturing. Over the last 100 years the forestland has basically remained the same – 750 million acres. It has stayed the same with the population growth.

Over the last 50 years the number of trees growing has increased by 49%

Myth:

Making paper consumes a lot of energy.

Fact:

Yes, but most of the energy is renewable.

Two-thirds of the energy used is self-generated by the US pulp and paper mills. The mills are self-sufficient when it comes to energy and some cases they are able to supply excess energy to the electric utility grid.

Believe in Film

This blog post is dedicated to a talented, young group of film photographers who, through their passion, have reconnected me with the Kodak brand at the very soul level. There will never be enough ways for me to thank them. Bear with me as I get a bit personal with you all….

The authenticity that one achieves by shooting film is incomparable to anything else.

Truth be told. The original intent of this post was to be about how the photography camera apps that are booming right now, such as Instagram and Hipstamatic, give a nod to Film and Square format pictures. Instagram inspired by the Kodak Instamatic.

I sent a request out to the film photographers who I follow on twitter asking if they had work I could feature.

The overwhelming response in less than 30 seconds was remarkable.

And by that I mean not only did several photographers rapid-fire tweet links to their work, their work is, in a word, remarkable.

Thus I will say it again. The authenticity that one achieves by shooting film is incomparable to anything else.

Mind you, I am a former Worldwide Marketing Manager for Kodak's Digital Camera business…

I'd spent the last 10 years of my career on the digital marketing team. With every digital camera released, my teammates and I always believed we upheld George Eastman's promise to consumers: "You press the button, we do the rest." Taking the hard work out of digital photography and bringing it to the masses was in our blood.

When we announced that Kodak was exiting this business, the sadness we experienced was equivalent to the death of a loved one. A piece of me died that day.

Upon taking the Community Manager position earlier this year, I have had the honor of meeting a group of photographers who shoot film. Their passion for the art of film photography, and their desire to keep film alive is one of the strongest driving forces I've witnessed during my career at Kodak. Their passion has helped me by reigniting my own passion for this iconic brand.

The #BelieveinFilm peeps are a tight knit community of highly engaged and incredibly talented people who understand the meaning of light, composition, and results. They will go through great lengths to help one another achieve the best possible outcome when shooting film.

When you only have so many frames on a roll of film, every single shot counts. Every one has to yield the desired outcome. Rarely will you see a shot of a Starbucks cup shot on film. Save that for your camera phone.

As for camera apps, they are fast, fun, and easy. They interestingly can take a picture with imaging flaws and turn it into a better photo because of filters and effects. They have their place in the world and I have enjoyed watching photography explode as these apps have become so popular. It's all good.

But, stop and take a look at the beauty before you. Nope. These are not Instagrams. They aren't from a DSLR.

This is film. Respect it. And enjoy.

April Fool's Kitten Photo Shoot Outtakes

I love my job! But for April Fool's... KITTENS!!! Then it came time for me to transport them.

The first ten minutes of the ride I felt like the most horrible person on Earth. Screaming kittens and a worried Mama Cat might be worse than texting while driving, thank goodness Mama knew what to do. She settled down in the backseat with her babies, calming them down the best way she knew how, with a snack. All was calm again.

When we got to the studio, we were greeted by eagerly awaiting kitten lovers. The family of fur was all very curious, the kittens looked wide-eyed while their Mom walked every inch of the studio assessing the situation, only to come back if she heard a kitten cry. When it came time to shoot, Mama Cat sat behind Steve like a stage Mom watching her children perform.

Paulette, Joel and I were assigned to be the kitten wranglers. We would squish them together and on the count of 3, let go! Steve would get in one shot before they were totally off the set again. While shooting the single shots of the kittens, we had to continually do head counts. At one point, we realized we only had three kittens, after searching high and low, Joel found him inside the Kiosk, whoops!

After the shoot was over, two of the kittens went to have some lunch and the other two climbed up on my lap for a nap. They were exhausted from their new modeling careers. Eventually, I had to pick the two up off my lap to join their siblings, since I was starting to think of names for them as I imagined them coming home with me.

After they all had their lunch, we loaded them back into the van. This time they knew the drill, and all snuggled up on the back seat to nap the whole way home.

Printing with the best

Kodak printers have been getting some good press lately. In addition to the PCWorld mention, PC Magazine listed the Kodak Hero 9.1 Inkjet Printer as one of the "Top 5 Best Photo Printers"on the market today!

I have a Kodak Hero 7.1 at my desk and in addition to using it to print spreadsheets and reports, I love to print photos on it. Since I am an Instagram addict, I have been using the Kodak Pic Flick App to print out my Instagram photos.

Because Instagram pics are square I do have to do some trimming but it is worth it. Sometimes I even round the corners to make them look even more retro. I love having them around my desk to look at!

Printing up a storm for Easter with affordable inks

I have a Kodak Hero 7.1 printer at my desk that has been getting a lot of use lately. Between birthday cupcake toppers and printing my Instagram phone pics, there is something to print everyday. (oh yeah and spreadsheets sometimes too)

The more I print the better this printer performs. Luckily Kodak Ink is affordable and even PCWorld agrees! They recently listed Kodak Ink as THE most affordable in their article "The Best Deals on Printer Ink". Kodak was listed first "Kodak's Inks Remain the Cheapest". WE like to say "the most inexpensive", because the ink isn't cheap! It's quality.

People are addicted to gadgets.

We routinely do things that just five years ago would scarcely have made sense to us. We tweet along to TV reality shows; we allow our trainers to tell us to run faster; we dance in front of Xboxes that can see us, and judge us. Photos on Facebook

Facebook recently announced that your photos on Facebook are now viewable full screen.

Before

Instead of only being able to see your photos at about 3/4 of your screen size with a black background and comments side bar, you can now click on an arrow in the upper right hand corner of your photo and expand it to full screen.

I love being able to see my photos full screen like this, but I have to say when I see my photos big and beautiful, it just makes me want to make a photo book of them! I have been turning my favorite Facebook photos into photo books using the My Kodak Moments app.

This works out well because last August, Facebook raised the maximum resoution that you can upload your photos at. Be sure when you upload pictures to check the "High Res" box... that way you can get the best quality prints and photo books.

Once again, we hear your feedback and have added some great new features in our My KODAK MOMENT App. A couple of weeks ago, we launched new features. Now you have told us you want to share it with your Facebook Friends. We agree!

You can now share an in process, saved or printed book photo book with your Facebook friends to thumb thru and create their own! Your friends will enjoy flipping through your virtual creation and being inspired to make their own photo book right in Facebook. Even mobile users can also view these shared books too right in a standard browser!

Anywhere in your book, just select the function to share it with your Facebook Friends. They will see your post on their Facebook Page and be able to thumb thru.

Building on the ability to use your photo as a background, now you can copy the photo background to facing page or spread it across the book! Just select the photo you want to use as the background, and choose Set as Page Background.

Once you have placed the image into the background, you can also select the background image and then copy it to the facing page, extend it across the facing page or apply it to the entire book. This lets you make your own backgrounds if you choose!

My Kodak Moments Photo Book Making Obsession

Everyday for the past month I have been getting texts, emails, instant messages and tweets from Tina Clark asking - "Did you make a $5 photo book yet?"

For the month of March, the 5x7 soft cover photo books on the My Kodak Moments Facebook app are only $5 with free shipping. That's a great deal... I shouldn't have needed any encouragement. And they are definitely cute as I could see from Tina's vacation photo book being passed around.

Last week I had a few spare minutes and I finally went to the My Kodak Moments app. A photo book of my pets seemed like a natural choice since they are the majority of the photos I have on Facebook. I filled 14 pages pretty quickly and even went back a year through my photos to find some of Hugo as a puppy. I named the book "Furballs" and submitted my order.

Well, that was pretty easy. And each page overflowed with cuteness. What other photos did I have in my Facebook albums?!

There was an album of photos from a trip to Sanibel Island we took in December that I had been meaning to do something with. A few minutes later that photo book was complete and ordered.

I was posting to Facebook that I was making these photo books and Mary Irene commented that she thought Stewie should get his own photo book. I could do that!

This was my third book in one day and there was no stopping me. I had caught the photo book bug.

Since I am an instagram addict like Tina, I made a photo book of just my instagram photos. I chose my favorite shots that featured quiet moments in time I wanted to remember. The idea being when things got hectic I could flip through my book and feel serene. That's the idea anyhow.

With this book I started to get fancy! I realized I could set a photo to be a background pattern on a page. I figured out that I could choose a photo for the background, then "move to clipboard" (which basically means take it off the page) and it would stay in the background. That way I could have a different picture in the background than the ones featured on the page.

At this point I was a photo book making machine.

Over the weekend, my husband shaved his head for St. Baldrick's children's cancer charity. I took a lot of pictures of the event and what did I do? I uploaded them to Facebook of course. Then it hit me. Photo books for everyone on his team!

I don't know if you can glean from this blog post or not but I really loved making these photo books. It was easy and very gratifying.

Kodak TPX launches in the UK!

When my boys were little each season was heralded by a trip to a local photo studio to get pictures of them with Santa, the Easter Bunny, with summertime beach balls and sand pails and pumpkins in the Fall.

These were promptly turned into simple gifts for the grandmothers. And if you haven't looked at a calendar recently, a gift-giving occasion is looming—I don't know when this happened, but at some point Easter turned into a gift-giving event.

Although I still consider my boys adorable (well, most days), they think they're too big to do the photo studio thing. While they won't escape all the pictures I'll take of them on the egg hunt and finding their Easter baskets that day, I no longer have that simple gift all set ahead of time for the grandmothers.

Instead of the portraits I decided to create photo books full of all those cute pictures from previous Easter holidays. I rounded up pictures of the boys from earlier years by sorting through my stored folders from March & April's gone by. I also forced my boys into their spiffy clothes and took a current picture of them to include in the Photo Book.

My KODAK MOMENT App Customer Feedback Drives New Features

First, let me thank all of our My KODAK MOMENT App fans that have not only made some fantastic photo books, but also taken the time to send us some great feedback. Based on that feedback, we have integrated some exciting new features that we hope with make your photo book making experience on Facebook even better!

The new photo book editing features include:

Move an entire page within my photo book with simple drag and drop
Simply click on the pencil in upper left corner of your photo and choose move to clipboard to place the photo on a clipboard until you decide where or if you will use them in your photo book
Use a favorite photo as the background image to your photo book page by clicking on pencil in upper left corner of that image and choose set as background image
Once you have placed an image into the background, you can also crop or apply black & white or sepia tones to it by clicking the pencil on the upper left corner of the background image and choosing crop, B&W or Sepia.
Choose from new single theme background images if you want all of your pages to be same image (note: it will not overwrite your photo background image unless you choose remove photo background).
If you have captions that have been truncated, there is now a warning before you order to allow you to edit them down.

New features for finishing up your masterpiece:

In the event that the image you choose for your photo book cover doesn't have sufficient image quality, you will receive a warning so you can choose another image.
Now you can save your photo bookanywhere in the process and come back to finish it later.
- Your completed photo book will now be automatically saved once your order is submitted so you can always come back and edit or make another copy of it.
We have now also added a Feedback button at the bottom of the App so you can tell us what you think any time!

Guest blogger: Pro-Photographer, Joseph Prezioso and shooting film

Today we have a guest blog post from pro photographer Joeseph Prezioso who wrote the book, Fearless Photographer: Film in the Digital Era. In this blog post he shares why he uses film to capture his beautiful photos.

Photography is my life, it's what I do, live and breath. Images are my sweat, tears and blood. For that reason and more, I have chosen to shoot film. Film is real, tangible, archival and not determined on battery level, megapixels or photo-editing software and back up hard drives. I know when I take a photo I have an image. To me digital photos, all those captured memories will be just like Rutger Hauer's memories in Blade Runner as he says in his famous line, "All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... "

I feel like everyone is taking photos, but they are not caring about them or even doing anything with them. They fill a memory card and delete the photos to make room for more, or they download them to their computer where they lose them when they mess something up, get a virus or a hard drive failure. I don't want that for my photos and I also don't want to deal with digital shooting.

Why do I really shoot film though, your wondering, wouldn't it be easier for me to just be digital? No, it wouldn't. I have been a professional photographer since 2000 and have shot news, movies and now weddings since 2006. I was film from 1997-2004, digital from 2004 to 2009 and now I am back to film. Why? Why? Because after five years of photoshopping all my photos to look like film I finally said to myself, why don't I just shoot film! I was shooting digital mostly because the newspaper I worked for switched to digital and didn't want to pay lab fees anymore, so I got sucked in and then laid off. I was then out shooting weddings full time with all my digital gear and doing fine.

Then in 2008 I started to play with film again and in 2009 I was 50% film and 2010 I was back 100%. Film has many qualities that digital can't touch, first and foremost, latitude. The dynamic range, the ability for film to capture highlight and shadow detail in the same frame is un-paralleled. Ever notice lots of white skies or blown out dresses in digital photos? That because the sensors and jpg's can't record all that information, so the bright blue sky goes white and the detail in the gown goes all white.

Film also records skin tones a lot more faithfully and softer then digital. With digital I had to always soften a brides face, it made everyone look harsh and dry. With film, I don't have to do that, even with medium format, skin tones are the best I have ever seen.

The new portra films are incredible. I can shoot a entire wedding with just portra 400. It's all I really need. Now, that's not what I do, because I like variety, but I could if I had to. With portra 400 I can shoot the film at 200 t0 1600 and get awesome results. The key is metering for the shadows in lowlight and for the mid tones in bright light. That's how I meter.

The new portra 160 is also incredible, there is no grain. It's smooth and clean and I love using it for bridal portraits and sunny outdoor weddings. In a wedding this past May in Mexico, the portra 160 was all I needed to capture the outdoor light from sunrise to sunset. Once we were inside I shot with Kodak's Vision 3 500T as well as with portra 400 and Tri-X 400.

For my black and white work, Tri-X is my favorite. I shoot this film at 1600 and never have I missed a shot, I even shoot it at 3200 and its great. I love the grain, the vintage feel and how it reacts with flash. Digital B&W can't touch it.

Whether I am shooting 35mm or medium format, I know I got the shot. I don't have to worry that my exposure was off a stop or if my ISO was set wrong and I don't have to check my LCD ever. I can concentrate on what I am shooting and take photos that count and matter. I tell my clients, I don't take thousands of photos, I only take the ones that matter. If I had a digital camera I could shoot three to four thousand photos a wedding, but most of those would be repeats and doubles and triples of the same moment, and others just a waste. With film I make each shot count, and I think there is something to be said for making a roll of 36 images all count and be good.

I love film, and I love weddings. A wedding is one of the most important days in a person's life and I don't want to leave their memories on a memory card or DVD somewhere. I know they have my prints and the negatives as well as the digital scans. When their hard drives fail, they can always get new prints or scans from the negatives. I have friends that can't find photos they took on their cell phone cameras and digital cameras from last summer, but I know my mom has every one of our vacations growing up in shoeboxes under her bed. I really feel that the kids growing up today aren't going to have any photos to look at of themselves in the coming years, except for the few that their parents frame to put on the wall.

The same can be said for wedding photos. Where are all those digital files going to end up? You can't loose a print set or a negative set as easy as you could loose a folder of images on a computer.

So get a roll of film and get shooting!
