Discovering the Magic of Collagen

As a holistic, clinical dietician my interest in functional foods for health is more than just professional-it’s deeply personal. During my struggles with pancolitis, I developed osteoporosis, It happened because I suffered from malabsorption, and I was taking steroids (prednisone) for over 10 years. I experienced the lows of many health challenges. But through decades of my research, I’ve also discovered some life-changing solutions. And the biggest game-changer was collagen. My encounter with Advanced Collagen Protein was a combination of professional curiosity and personal necessity. Known for its ability in repairing gut lining, collagen’s potential in boosting bone density was what caught my eye—an area where I face my own battles now.

A Daily Dose of Healing

Every day, I try to add few tablespoons of Advanced Collagen Protein to my diet, and the results have been nothing short of transformative. Let me take you through my day with collagen:

Morning Tea: My day begins with a soothing cup of tea infused with a scoop of Advanced Collagen Protein. It dissolves seamlessly, adding a comforting warmth that kick-starts my morning and nurtures my gut lining.

Pumpkin Soup for Lunch: For lunch, I often enjoy a hearty bowl of pumpkin soup, enriched with a generous serving of collagen. Not only does it enhance the soup’s creaminess, but it also serves as a midday boost for my digestive health and bone density.

An Occasional Collagen-Boosted Coffee: While I primarily enjoy collagen in my tea and soups, I occasionally indulge in a cup of coffee with added collagen. It’s a delightful treat that supports my bone health without compromising on taste.

Beyond the Spoonful: The Wider Impact

Incorporating Advanced Collagen Protein into my diet has been a game-changer. Here’s why:

Gut Health: As someone who has navigated the turbulent waters of ulcerative pancolitis, maintaining a healthy gut lining is crucial. Collagen’s amino acids have been instrumental in supporting my gut’s lining integrity, offering comfort and resilience against digestive woes.
Collagen for Gut Lining Repair: A study published in the ‘Journal of Clinical Pathology’ found that individual with Inflammatory Bowel Disease had lower levels of serum collagen. By supplementing with collagen, you might be giving your gut the tools it needs to heal and seal your gut lining.

Source: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/14600124/

Collagen for Reducing Inflammation: collagen has been noted for its anti-inflammatory capabilities. A study published in ‘BioMed Research International’ journal highlights how dietary amino acids (found in collagen) can both prevent and treat intestinal inflammation. This is particularly beneficial for people with Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn’s disease, IBS and chronic diarrhea.

Source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5846438/

Bone Density: The diagnosis of osteoporosis was a wake-up call to prioritize my bone health. Collagen, with its bone-strengthening abilities, has been a key ally in this journey. It’s empowering to know that each serving helps build a stronger me. If you have osteoporosis/osteopenia, taking collagen is especially important. As a building block of bones, consuming collagen can aid in boosting bone density. This is crucial, especially for people with IBD and women in menopause. A study in the scientific ‘Journal of Nutrients’ showed that collagen supplementation led to a significant increase in bone mineral density in postmenopausal women.

Source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5793325/

Muscle Builder

Collagen is ideal in building muscle mass and strength, particularly for aging individuals. Research in the ‘British Journal of Nutrition’ found improved muscle strength and muscle mass among elderly men taking collagen is paired with resistance training. Source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4594048/

A Personal Invitation

My journey with Advanced Collagen Protein is more than just a testament to its benefits; it’s an invitation to you. Whether you’re seeking to support your digestive health, enhance your bone density, or simply add a nourishing boost to your diet, collagen can be a transformative addition to your wellness routine.

Advanced Collagen Protein isn’t just functional food; it’s a daily companion in my pursuit of health and vitality. And in sharing this piece of my journey, I hope to inspire you to explore the enriching possibilities that collagen can bring to your life.

Here’s to health, healing, and the simple joys of a well-nourished body.

Warmly,

Galina

P.S. How Steroids Interfere with Bone Formation and Resorption

Steroids disrupt the natural balance between bone formation and bone resorption (the process by which old bone tissue is broken down and removed). They inhibit the function and life span of osteoblasts (cells that create bone tissue) and promote the activity of osteoclasts (cells that break down bone tissue). This imbalance favors bone loss over bone formation, leading to decreased bone density and strength.

Oh, the BRAT diet.

It’s been advertised as a go-to remedy for upset stomachs and diarrhea for decades.

But is it really that universally good for everybody?

The short answer is ABSOLUTELY NOT.

In fact, the BRAT diet may be very bad for people with IBS, IBD (Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis) and Celiac disease, especially when they’re dealing with diarrhea.

Let’s take a closer look at why.

What is BRAT diet?

First, let’s review what the BRAT diet is. It stands for Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast.

Sounds harmless enough, right? Well, not so fast.

Unfortunately, BRAT diet consists of foods that are high in FODMAPs.

What is FODMAP?

Ah, FODMAP! Sounds like a goofy term, doesn’t it?

Not quite. Let’s break it down.

FODMAP is an acronym for a group of carbohydrates and sugar alcohols that are found in various foods. It stands for Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides, and Polyols.

Unsurprisingly, as the name of the first member of the group suggests, FODMAPs are known to FERMENT in your gut, causing gas, cramps, bloating, and even diarrhea.

Yes, diarrhea!

However, it may be especially harmful for people afflicted with Colitis, Crohn’s, IBS and Celiac disease.

And here is why:

Dysbiosis in Crohn’s, Colitis, IBS and Celiac disease

According to the latest studies, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, IBS, and Celiac disease have one thing in common – dysbiosis (altered gut flora or an imbalance in microbiome). (1,2,3)

According to Daren Low, Ph.D., et al, when you have dysbiosis 3 things can happen in your gut at the same time:

“Loss of beneficial bacteria” (4)

“Overgrowth of potentially pathogenic bacteria”(4)

“Loss of overall bacterial diversity” (4)

Altered gut flora (dysbiosis) makes digestion of FOODMAPs foods difficult. This has been proven by numerous clinical studies (see references below).

So, you can ask, are the very foods included in the BRAT diet are proven to worsen the symptoms you are trying to relieve?

Unfortunately, the answer is YES. See for yourself.

High Fructose Foods are linked to IBS-diarrhea

Foods like banana and applesauce (part of BRAT diet), are high in fructose, one of the FODMAPs.

Fructose test was abnormal in 35% of IBS patients in a recent study done by scientists from Institute for Research and Innovation in Biomedicine, Normandy University, Rouen, France. It was identified that fructose malabsorption/intolerance can trigger symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating, gas, and diarrhea in susceptible IBS patients. (5)

Avoiding or minimizing high fructose foods has been found to reduce symptoms and improve quality of life for many IBS patients.

The doctors’ recommendation: low-fructose diet must be part of treatment strategy in patients with IBS-diarrhea.

Fructose Malabsoption & Diarrhea in Crohn’s, Colitis and Celiac disease

Fructose malabsoption was identified across multiple patients with Crohn’s, colitis and Celiac disease in a study conducted by doctors from Department of Medicine and Gastroenterology, Monash University and Box Hill Hospital, Box Hill, Vic., Australia. Fructose malabsorption was the highest in Crohn’s disease (61%). Patients with ulcerative colitis and Celiac disease had fructose malabsorption from 33% – 44%. (6)

Conclusion: a low fructose may be beneficial for individuals with Crohn’s, colitis and Celiac disease particularly during times of active disease or when experiencing diarrhea.

Gluten can trigger diarrhea in Celiac disease

Toast in BRAT diet is usually made from traditional bread that contains gluten, which is a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye. Individuals with celiac disease must strictly avoid gluten as it triggers an immune response that damages the small intestine. Consuming gluten-containing bread can worsen symptoms and contribute to ongoing intestinal inflammation and diarrhea.

Gluten Free Diet Reduces Colitis & Crohn’s Symptoms

Scientists form University of North Carolina, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology conducted a study questioning 1647 patients with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. These patients ate a gluten free diet. The results of the study were shocking: 65% of all patients reported an improvement in their condition (less running to the bathroom and more energy). Only 0.6% of these patients had a diagnosis of celiac disease. This confirms that gluten free diet is extremely beneficial for IBD patients. (7)

The Bottom Line:

Now, to be absolutely clear: FODMAP foods, High Fructose Foods and Gluten containing foods are not inherently bad for everyone. They may be perfectly fine for many people to enjoy.

But for those with conditions like IBS-diarrhea, IBD-diarrhea and Celiac disease-diarrhea: ELIMINATING FODMAPs foods (read: eliminating BRAT diet), Gluten and Hight Fructose Foods can help alleviate digestive discomfort and diarrhea.

Better yet, talk to your doctor or a registered dietitian to come up with a customized plan that meets your specific needs.

Do you want to know what you should eat when you have IBS-diarrhea, IBD-diarrhea and Celiac disease-diarrhea?

Stay tuned for the next blog post.

Best of health to you, my friend.

Galina

References:

Khan I, Ullah N, Zha L, Bai Y, Khan A, Zhao T, Che T, Zhang C.
“I’m not one to leave review but If this review can help someone in my husband’s position we will be happy.

Here’s his background:
He was diagnosed at age 19 and is 48 now. Everything was well managed with medication until about 8 months ago when he went from being in full remission with no sign of disease to full pancolitis in what seemed like no time at all. He went from being very active, to his life revolving around his disease. In November he developed an abscess which became a fistula, and they have been unable to repair it to date.

He was hospitalized for 8 days in January and since then has continued to be on a high dose of steroids, and they have have continued to increase in medications. Despite all of this he was still using the bathroom 15-20 times per day many days.

We had purchased the book but it wasn’t until the doctor’s office called last week and recommended hospitalization with potential surgery that he decided he must try the Flare Stopper Diet.

My colitis case was very severe and stubborn. It lasted years. Early on in my disease, I stopped responding to all known medications. At times, I was literally fighting for my life, desperate for help, but traditional medicine had nothing to offer me except radical surgery – colectomy.

But I can tell you…I did what conventional medicine thought was impossible.

I cured my “incurable disease” through 30 years of continuous research and application of a Flare Stopper diet and innovative therapies described in the book, I transformed myself – from a statistically hopeless UC patient into a happy and healthy woman.

After following the program for 12 days, I reported to Galina: My stool is free and clear of blood. I am pooping just 1-2 times a day. No pain! No bloating! And no urges at night to run to the bathroom. It feels like a miracle.”

Penteteuch – Crohn’s disease for 7 years

“My Crohn’s symptoms stopped after being on your program for 14 days. This is after 7 years of being sick with flare ups even when I was taking medication. I had lots of gas, bleeding with diarrhea and mucus for up to 12 bowel movements a day. At one point, I was only 90 pounds. I had tried everything. I could not work, was in a hospital two times and was offered surgery. I said ‘no’. Instead, I began following Galina’s instructions. While the liquid meals are kind of restrictive, it is amazing how quickly my symptoms cleared: no pain, no cramping, no diarrhea, no blood in the stool. Galina’s system really worked for me.”

The Good News

1. Bowel Movement Frequency

You can expect your bowel movement frequency to decrease significantly. Some of the patients had 10-15 bowel movements a day prior to starting the program. After the completion of the program, these people enjoyed 2-3 healthy bowel movements a day, pain-free.

2. Bowel Movement Quality

You can expect your bowel movement quality to improve dramatically. Your bowel movements will transition from diarrhea with blood and chunks of mucus, to blood-free and mucus-free fully formed stool.

Here is a common misconception: most people assume that while being on a liquid diet, their stool should be liquid. This is NOT true if you are consuming soluble fiber. A liquid diet leaves minimal residue in your digestive tract, but soluble fiber can help form stool. In this program, you will be consuming soluble fiber in the form of psyllium husk and butternut squash soup. So, with the improvement of your intestinal flora, your stool will gradually become fully formed, bulky, and easy to pass.

Plus, your stool should be free of a pungent stench. If your stool stinks, it means that your gut still harbors toxins. Healthy poop doesn’t smell. Expect to poop like a champion by the end of the program.

3. More Energy and improved immune Function

After completing the program, expect to have more energy and improved immune function because your colon is free from obstruction created by mucoid plaque, hardened feces, toxins, and pathogens.

_____________________________

The Flare Stopper Diet

If you are in an active flare, you must start The Flare Stopper Diet ASAP (as soon as possible) for elimination of diarrhea, abdominal pain, and bleeding. The Flare Stopper Diet is a therapeutic diet that can help you reverse the IBD disease process and achieve gut healing you are looking for.

How do I know it will? Because it worked for me and many of my clients.

The Flare Stopper Diet is a special liquid, enteral diet I designed for IBD patients who cannot eat solid food because they either feel too sick to eat normal meals or are afraid to eat due to abdominal pain, cramps, and diarrhea. Liquid meals mean less risk of irritating intestines that are inflamed, and/or have bleeding ulcers.

What is the Flare Stopper Diet?

The Flare Stopper Diet is designed to induce remission in IBD patients, and it’s super safe. It completely excludes any foods and substances like common food allergens and harmful additives/ingredients that could damage your gut in any way.

But The Flare Stopper Diet does not stop there. It supercharges your body with live enzymes, bioavailable vitamins/minerals, and easy to digest proteins, fats, and carbohydrates, ensuring healing from the inside out.

As Hippocrates said more than 2,000 years ago:” Let food be thy medicine, and medicine be thy food.”

The Flare Stopper Diet is a short-term enteral nutrition diet, which means mostly liquid foods are taken through the mouth.

Diet duration can vary from 7 to 30 days, or longer, depending on the age and the condition of the patient. Some patients experience full relief from IBD symptoms after only 7 days of being on The Flare Stopper Diet, some after 14 days, while others may require up to 30 days or longer of being on this diet to induce remission.

In the book, I recommend doing at least 21 days of The Flare Stopper Diet. I personally have done The Flare Stopper Diet for 30 days, because I have been sick with a severe case of ulcerative pancolitis for many years. That’s why it took me a whole month to stop my severe GI inflammation and bleeding.

You may be thinking, “Wow, 30 days of drinking liquids. I don’t know if I can do it. “But if you knew that 1 month of The Flare Stopper Diet will help you regain full control of your digestive system, would you do it?

After years of suffering and numerous useless treatments and diets, I realized that it’s much easier to do The Flare Stopper Diet for a month, than to be sick and miserable for the rest of my life. I tried so many things to get rid of my colitis, including commercial liquid enteral formulas. But it turned out that my own Flare Stopper diet was far more effective in healing my gut than all the drugs I was prescribed including anti-inflammatory, antibiotics, and steroids.

After completing 30 days of The Flare Stopper Diet, drinking herbs, taking supplements and doing therapies discussed in this book, I stopped having diarrhea, bleeding, and cramps. And I began enjoying pain-free, healthy bowel movements. In short, I became a real pooping champion!

Years later, my numerous clients had similar success with The Flare Stopper Diet.

I know for a fact that The Flare Stopper Diet is one of the most effective tools you can use to repair your gut wall lining, regulate your intestinal microflora, and take control of your seemingly uncontrollable disease!

I know if you follow the program from the book diligently, you will be successful in FINALLY STOPPING YOUR IBD FLARES. Now, you have step-by-step instructions on how to do it properly and effectively!

_____________________________________

The book – The Flare Stopper System for Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis is available on amazon.com

For those who decide to leave an honest review on amazon.com after reading the book, we have a special surprise.

We will ship to you free of charge 1 bottle of Immunity G7 Formula (while supplies last). That is why doctors offer commercial electrolyte drinks, such as Gatorade for adults or Pedialyte for children, to prevent dehydration and life–threatening electrolyte dis-balance. On the surface, it sounds good and should resolve the problem. Right?

Well, may be for some, but NOT for people with IBD (Colitis and Crohn’s)
So, what is a problem? Actually, the problem is 2-fold:

#1 Harmful ingredients:

Excessive amount of refined sugars (mostly GMO) added in the form of dextrose and sucrose syrup, artificial colors, artificial sweeteners and preservatives (citric acid, mostly GMO derived) . All these ingredients are known to irritate sensitive gut. Do you need more irritation during your flare? I don’t think so.

See for yourself the list of ingredients for Gatorade and Pedialyte.
Gatorade Ingredients: Water, Sucrose Syrup, Glucose-Fructose Syrup, Citric Acid, Natural Grape Flavor, Salt, Sodium Citrate, Monopotassium Phosphate, Red 40, Blue 1.
Pedialyte Ingredients: Water, Dextrose. Less than 2% of: Citric Acid, Potassium Citrate, Salt, Sodium Citrate, Natural Flavor, Sucralose, Acesulfame Potassium, Zinc Gluconate, Red 40, and Blue 1.

#2 Not Enough Electrolytes

People with Inflammatory Bowel Disease need much more electrolytes than average person simply because they lose more. Commercial electrolyte drinks simply don’t have enough electrolytes to satisfy increased needs of IBD patients during a flare. This conclusion has been confirmed by researchers from University of Michigan IBD Team. (1)

But there is a solution! I present to you Galina’s Electrolyte Drink. Its full of life supporting minerals, free of harmful additives and super affordable.

Galina’s Electrolyte Drink was created out of necessity.

Many years ago, during my flares, I tried drinking both Gatorade and Pedialyte. However, I’ve noticed that I feel worse after drinking them. Then, I took my time to study the reasons why. Just short analysis of the ingredients revealed the problem. It became clear to me that commercial electrolyte/sport drinks have way too much sugar and chemicals that increased my gut inflammation.

So, I had a problem on my hands. The desperate need for electrolyte supplementation did not go away with my realization, but rather made my problem more difficult.

I could not find any commercial electrolyte replacement drink with enough electrolytes and without added refined sugar, chemicals and preservatives. So, I had to create my own. That’s how Galina’s Electrolyte Drink was born.

This healing re-hydration drink is easy to make. It takes less than 5 minutes, and has only 6 ingredients you might already have at home.

Here is the recipe.

Galina’s Electrolyte Drink
Ingredients:
1 liter of water (about 32 ounces or 4 cups)
½ teaspoon of Himalayan salt (sodium chloride)
½ teaspoon of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
Juice of 1 organic lemon (has potassium and folate)
1 teaspoon of Organic Unsulfured Blackstrap Molasses
1/4 teaspoon of KCl (potassium chloride)

How to Make:
1. Heat ½ cup of pure water in a pot until hot.
2. Add salt, baking soda and molasses; stir well until fully dissolved.
3. Add 3.5 cups of water to the mixture of salt, baking soda and molasses. Then add lemon juice. Mix well. Drink at room temperature 1 cup every 1-2 hours during diarrhea.
4. Store in Mason jars or glass bottles.

The amount of sodium chloride and potassium chloride in this drink was modeled after oral rehydration solution used by World Health Organization to replace lost electrolytes in people with infectous diarrheal diseases. (2)

I used molasses in this drink because natural cane sugar in molasses increases the absorption of sodium and potassium in this drink. Also, molasses have lower glycemic load than sugar (65 for sugar; 55 for molasses), and unlike refined, white table sugar, molasses contain high levels of easy to absorb iron, potassium, selenium, magnesium, calcium and vitamin B6, which are much needed for IBD patients during their flare.

What are electrolytes and why we need them “An electrolyte is a substance that produces an electrically conducting solution when dissolved in water. Electrolytes carry a charge and are essential for life. All higher forms of life need electrolytes to survive.
In our bodies, electrolytes include sodium (Na+), potassium (K+), calcium (Ca2+), bicarbonate (HCO3-), magnesium (Mg2+), chloride (C1-), and hydrogen phosphate (HPO42-).”
Sodium: when you combine sodium with chloride you get salt. With chronic diarrhea during colitis and Crohn’s flare, you can experience hyponatremia (low blood sodium) that can cause fatigue, muscle cramps, nausea and vomiting.
Potassium is vital for normal function of nerve and muscle cells. Running to the bathroom multiple times a day can trigger hypokalemia (low blood potassium). Symptoms of hypokalemia: heart palpitations, muscle spasms or damage and numbness. If you have severe hypokalemia you must be hospitalized and given potassium intravenously.
Bicarbonate What is bicarbonate or baking soda? It is a combination of sodium ions (Na) and bicarbonate ions (HCO3). It’s formula is NaHCO3, and it’s sold as white fine powder. Bicarbonate is the base that neutralizes acids in the blood. Severe diarrhea can cause metabolic acidosis, which is acid-base disorder and when untreated can be life threatening. That is why we should add some pure baking soda to our electrolyte drink because soda is a highly alkaline compound.

Reference # 1: University of Michigan IBD Team Facebook post. Trying to rehydrate with Gatorade? January 18, 2016.

Reference #2: http://www.rehydrate.org/ors/expert-consultation.html

The post The Best Electrolyte Drink During a Flare appeared first on Know Your Gut.

It means they are in full remission. And no intestinal inflammation is present. So, at this point, they can tolerate gut-friendly desserts occasionally.

These shortbread cookies are so easy to make. Just mix all the ingredients; freeze for 1 hour, and then bake. These incredible buttery cookies just melt-in-your-mouth, and I bet, that you won’t stop until you’ll eat at least 3 cookies. Some people are saying that these cookies almost as good as sex.

These cookies taste heavenly! You will never tell that this is a gluten free cookie that has very little sugar. If you are on SCD or GAPS diet you can use honey instead of sugar. However, I do like to use a little bit of organic brown sugar in my cookies occasionally for extra flavor. Each cookies has only 1.2 grams of organic sugar.

I make them for the Holidays and Birthday parties. Because these cookies do not contain eggs, they are suitable for people with egg allergies. If you don’t have walnuts on hand, you can you pecans instead.

This cookie dough freezes quite well, so you can bake a fresh batch on a short notice. He just used ONE remedy published on my blog.

Meet Jane:
I”m Jane, loving wife of Greg who is an avid outdoor man. He has just turned 58, but still likes to act 21, which means he breaks things- ribs, calf muscles etc. He is a farmer; in the flower/ flowering plant industry, and is a real handy-man who can fix anything, and it is very hard to slow him down! UC managed to do that though- when he had to be within running distance of the loo, and had no spare energy.
We have 4 adult children, 3 are married, and 3 wonderful little grand-kids, who love their “Pa” and did a great job of cheering him up when he needed a laugh or a hug.

Some more about them:
We live south of Brisbane, Australia, and love to camp in the bush or at the beach, but over the past few years our holidays have been spent in the Solomon Islands doing charity work with the lovely village people who have so little but are so happy. UC put a temporary halt to that.

Her Husband’s Colitis Symptoms:
His current symptoms are GONE, just a little trouble with heartburn, only mild, and only after lunch, no matter what he eats and which we haven’t found a solution for yet.

Good News – From a Wife of a UC’er
Greg has moderate UC pancolitis diagnosed just last June. It is now 1 year since his symptoms started, after a VERY stressful time at work. We tried to do the natural healing way, but made some mistakes, and he lost a lot of weight- it was a too steep learning curve. He ended up in hospital with sepsis and a bad flare, so they put him on antibiotics, Prednizone for 6 weeks and also Mezavant. We got off that as soon as his symptoms were normal, and started back searching for a natural way. He was taking l-glutamine, and lots of other herbs, and a eating a very simple, natural, dairy free and GF mostly vegan vegetarian diet, but after 3 weeks off the meds his bleeding, pains and 5-6 bm a day started again.

We then went to a Naturopath and started on Metagenics probiotics and various herbs. She went searching for other foods that he was reacting to but couldn’t find any. He didn’t get any worse but didn’t get much better either. Then I came across the ‘Know Your Gut” website and found a recipe for a tea made from organic flaxseed and liquid chlorophyll. He drank it 3 times a day 1/2 hr before meals and also did small enema’s (120 mls) with it at night. The very next day he said he felt better (less “raw” in the rectum) and his bleeding and BM slowed down over the next 2 weeks. After 2 1/2 weeks (Christmas Day- what an awesome Christmas present!! Praise God!!) his bleeding stopped and he has been having 2 or sometimes 3 normal BM each day since then. His pains/cramping have also gone now.

We plan to keep up the cloroflax drink for a while. Greg says that he is happy to do it forever, he says it is not that bad (it’s flavoured with spearmint). Hopefully that won’t be necessary! We are still doing the supplements and diet, and are working on getting his digestion improved with herbs. Also working on the stress levels. He is de-stressing by early morning sun-bathing reading a good book!

Here is the link to my original blogpost which describes this recipe:

“Sore anus?
It’s winter time. As the temperatures drops, more people get sick with cold and flu.
But you don’t have to suffer from coughing and sniffles this holiday season because there are 3 safe, natural and super effective remedies to help you to stay healthy this winter.

Believe me, I and my family have been using these remedies for years with great success, especially when it gets cold.

But the secret is HOW to use them. So, here is my holiday gift to you, my “secret” recipe for your super immunity.

1. Eat and use Garlic every day

Here is the secret on how its done: Swallow one small whole clove of garlic first thing in the morning and at night before going to bed. Also, I eat at least 3-4 crushed fresh garlic cloves with my dinner. And for extra insurance, I stick 1 clove of fresh garlic covered in coconut oil in my anus after I poop in the morning. Make sure you are buying organic garlic.

2. Support Your Immune System with Probiotic Foods

Here is one example of the probiotic rich foods that everyone in IBD remission should use. For me, the probiotic winner is homemade fermented food I love the most – sauerkraut. Did you know that bacteria in your gut represents 70% of your immune system? Fermented veggies do a fantastic job in feeding beneficial bacteria that resides in your gut and supports your immune system in its fight against cold, flu and other infections. Fermentation transforms vegetables (cabbage, kirby’s, radishes, carrots) into “probiotic/cultured foods” full of lactic bacteria, probiotics and enzymes, which MUST be present in abundance in a healthy digestive system. Healthy gut flora = strong immunity.

My two-fold key to healthy gut flora is:

(a) drink sauerkraut juice (1-2 tablespoons) first thing in the morning before breakfast,

(b) eat sauerkraut with your meals at least once a day.

3. Take Natural Immune Booster – Immunity G7 Formula

Immunity G7 Formula combines the power of two digestible essential oils: Wild Organic Oregano Oil (Origanum Vulgare) and pure cinnamon oil (cinnamomum zeylanicum) for ultimate immune protection. Oil of Oregano has been scientifically researched and proven to be one of the strongest and most effective broad spectrum immune support remedies known to man. As an immune system booster, oregano oil is unparalleled in the plant kingdom. It is many times stronger than echinacea or goldenseal. Immunity G7 Formula is an extra strength european formula that recharges, nourishes, and defends cells – supporting your health like no other product. This potent blend of essential oils is inside a clear capsule that is easy to swallow, so there is no burning in the mouth. During winter months, I take 1 capsule of Immunity G7 Formula with breakfast, lunch and dinner (3 capsules total a day). I am taking this supplement in December for 20 days, then I stop for 10 days. And I repeat this cycle for the next 2 months (January and February). Give it a try this winter.
When it comes to food we all want the best, the safest and most nutritious food on our table, especially for our children. So, for many of us look for “Organic” on our food labels.
However, some big corporate producers are choosing to compromise even the sacred “Organic” label for higher profits.

A Shocking Truth about “Industrial-Scale” Egg Production

I came across a very interesting article the other day and I just had to share it with you.
The story is about Organic eggs.
Although marked “Organic”, how can we actually be sure we are buying eggs from healthy and happy free roaming chickens? The short answer is: we can’t ! Not just by looking at the “Organic” label, anyway.
Here is why: most of the large corporate egg producers utilize so called “industrial-scale egg production method”.

And here is the shocker: this “industrial-scale” method does not require providing hens with access to outside pasture, or any kind of vegetated open space whatsoever.
Moreover, these so called “organic aviaries” are allowed to cram hundreds of thousands of chickens into small buildings, up to 150,000 hens to be exact. So, these chickens never even get to see the light of day.
Do you think those poor, stressed out birds can produce truly healthy and vibrant organic eggs we seek for our families? I don’t think so.

Experience Superior Taste and Quality of Eggs from Small, Organic Producers

There are some smaller organic egg producers that utilize perfectly healthy, humane and truly organic methodologies, including so called “Pasture-based organic” method where “birds are allowed to roam freely. In these situations, chickens can exhibit their natural behaviors, foraging, scratching, and flapping their wings. Additionally, on such pasture hens receive a percentage of their natural diet from fresh grass, earthworms, seeds, and insects.

But the trouble is that the large corporate egg operations now control over 80% of the organic egg market.
However, not to panic!

Organic Egg Scorecard Can Help You to Buy Truly Healthy, Organic Eggs

There is a good news: Cornucopia Institute concluded a two year study and issued a report containing an “Organic Egg Scorecard”.
This extremely useful scorecard allows you check for the safest brands, companies and farmers.
Now, you can pick those that use truly humane, natural and healthy methodologies, and, YES, those do exist ! Also, you will be amazed by what you thought were high quality organic egg producers.

Check out the scorecard and watch the interesting video. Let’s start supporting the true organic producers and farmers.

Heavenly Chia Seed Pudding

When I don’t have time to prepare breakfast in the morning, this quick and super delicious pudding provides enough protein, fiber and healthy omega-3 fatty acids to keep me working and running until early lunch.

I like to prepare this chia seed pudding at night, so I have it all ready for my breakfast in the morning. I call chia seeds – am amazing superfood because one ounce (2 tablespoons) of chia seeds contain 4 grams of protein, 9 grams of fat (omega-3s), 11 grams of fiber, calcium (18% of RDA), magnesium (30%) and good amount of zinc, Vitamin B3 (niacin), Vitamin B1 (thiamine), Vitamin B2 & Potassium.
For people with Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn’s disease, IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), Celiac disease, Gastritis this pudding is especially beneficial because it has tapioca-like gel consistency which is very soothing for a sensitive gut. Another benefit: this recipe provides more calcium than 1 cup of milk. I recommend this recipe in IBD (Colitis and Crohn’s) Healing System and IBS Healing Systems in Phase II and III.

Ingredients:
1/4 cup organic chia seeds
1 cup organic unsweetened soy milk
1/2 cup coconut milk
pinch of organic stevia (to taste for Phase II) or
1 teaspoon of organic liquid honey (for Phase III)
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup organic blueberries
Handful of chopped almonds

How to Make:
1. Place all the ingredients above in a blender. Blend on high speed for 30 seconds or until it becomes thickened and very smooth. Pour mixture into a Mason jar or any glass container with a lid.
2. Refrigerate overnight. The pudding should be thick. Top with blueberries and chopped almonds. Enjoy!
