Such is the speculation of witnesses after seeing the door handles, body powder and a RM5 note among the items which were next to the pool where a man was believed to have committed suicide on Sunday night. In the incident, a man who is believed to be in his 20s or 30s, was said to have driven his Proton Iswara into the mining pool in Puchong Perdana.

A man who lives nearby, identified only as Amir, 46, said his neighbour had told him about the car parked there that night. “When we went out to see the car, it was already sinking in the lake,” he said.

Malaysia Yahoo! News reported in an article that two Latin American men with Chilean passports who were deported in September for petty theft were detained again by police for snatching the laptop of a New Zealander at a fast food restaurant in KL Sentral here on Oct 28.

Police are investigating if they were part of an international theft syndicate, Brickfields police chief ACP Wan Abdul Bari Wan Abdul Talib told reporters today. “We are checking to see if they are really from Chile and why they turned up here again when we had deported them to Chile in September,” he said, adding that police believed they used different identities to enter the country since November last year.

He said that with their arrest, police solved 33 theft cases in the KL Sentral area, mostly involving mobile telephones and laptops. On Oct 28, the duo snatched the laptop of a New Zealander who was at McDonalds at 3.30pm.

Art Addict featured an article, showing Choo Kok Choon’s first solo exhibtion in Kuala Lumpur, that presents his 2009 new series – ‘Du-Lan Man’ and some of his unique life drawing, on until Friday, 6th November 2009.

Kok Choon’s artworks is about his horrible thoughts and feeling in everyday life. He tried to figure out the discrepancy between strong and weak, the threatening around us. The word ‘Du-Lan Man’ is from one of the Chinese dialect, means ‘man of hatred’. He intend to depict the dangers and tragedy which could possibly happen in our country, and even to us innocent peasants. This may be controversial, but still an opportunity to study a new concept behind art.

According to MySinChew, a serious landslide took place at 10th km Jalan Rawang early this morning, resulting in the complete blockage of traffic from Selayang to Rawang. No reports of vehicles buried have been received as of press time.

Rescue personnel from the police, fire & rescue department as well as the 991 civil defense corps rushed to the scene for rescue operations. The section of road affected is about 80 metres long and three and a half metres wide. Both directions of the road have been covered in mud. Residents at Selayang Height heard a screeching sound at about 2.45 a.m. this morning and thought an accident had occurred. They later made a police report after learning that a landslide had happened.

Traffic from Selayang to Rawang is completely cut off while that of the opposite direction is not affected. Motorists traveling from Kuala Lumpur towards Rawang are advised to use MRR2 and the North-South Highway.

In a recent Star Online report by Rozaid A. Rahman, six people said to be linked to the al-Qaeda movement have been detained in a raid at a five-star hotel in Jalan Ampang.

In a recent Star Online report by Rozaid A. Rahman, six people said to be linked to the Al-Qaeda movement have been detained in a raid at a five-star hotel in Jalan Ampang last Friday.

Sources told mStar that the six, who were meeting at the hotel, were foreigners from several Middle Eastern countries located in the Gulf region. The raid was conducted by the police, Immigration Department and the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim). The six were deported back to their respective countries 24 hours later after they were questioned.

Sources said the arrests were more of a preventive exercise for Malaysian authorities and that the Immigration Department could deport any foreigner, without having to give an explanation for doing so. In the operation, the authorities spotted the six entering the hotel at 9am. They were arrested 12 hours later. It is learnt that the group had made the city centre a meeting point for their discussions.

In this case, one can’t help but wonder, why they were deported back instead of informing US official authority about the capture, as they are leading the struggle against Al-Qaeda on a global scale. This could easily backfire and Malaysia could be blacklisted wrongly on the charge of releasing possible al-qaeda terrorists.

In a Star report, police rescued two more victims from the same syndicate that kidnapped a 16-year-old Sri Lankan earlier.

In a Star report, police rescued two more victims from the same syndicate that kidnapped a 16-year-old Sri Lankan earlier.

The victims, a 57-year-old and another who is 63, were held in an apartment in Setapak, KL, near where the teenager was confined. Initial investigation revealed that the victims were beaten, drugged and starved during their captivity. Federal CID Director Comm Datuk Seri Bakri Zinin said police also arrested six men, including a Sri Lankan.

They were alerted about the kidnapping on Oct 26 after the parents of the 16-year-old transferred 5,000 euros (RM25,000) to the suspects. The transaction was done in France. Two days later, a team of policemen raided a house in Setapak and saved the boy. That rescue led police to uncover the plight of the two victims. Comm Bakri said French police had also arrested four men, aged between 20 and 36, in connection with the kidnapping.

Police have yet to identify the syndicate’s mastermind. “We are also looking into the human trafficking angle,” Comm Bakri said at a press conference yesterday. All three victims are under police custody to facilitate investigations. The six arrested in the city are put under remand.

Sin Chew Jit Poh reported that customs officers have arrested a Japanese woman after they found 4.7 kg of syabu in her luggage upon her arrival at the KL International Airport (KLIA) from Dubai last Friday, KLIA Customs director Azizah Ibrahim said today.

The drug was recovered after the officers scanned three pieces of luggage belonging to the 30-year-old woman who had flown in at 9.55pm aboard an Emirates flight, she said, adding that the drug was found in two bright plastic packages in a special compartment in one of the bags. The syabu had an estimated street value of RM1.2 million, she told a news conference at the Customs Narcotics headquarters in Kampung Jijan near here.

Azizah said the woman had been remanded for six days for investigation of the case under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. The act provides for the mandatory death sentence upon conviction. Azizah asked the people to convey information on drug smuggling to the Customs Department via the toll-free line 1-800-88-8855 or the narcotics branch number at 06-7917792/7587 or any preventive office, saying informants would be rewarded if the information led to arrests and seizure.

The Star reported that the Prime Minister stated that racist comments from “one or two Umno leaders” should be ignored because the majority of members in the party are not racists.

The Star reported that the Prime Minister stated that racist comments from “one or two Umno leaders” should be ignored because the majority of members in the party are not racists.

Speaking at the Gerakan National Delegates Conference in KL yesterday, the UMNO president stressed that the party’s policies had always been fair, inclusive, democratic and open. “Umno is not a racist party. From the beginning, we wanted a multiracial society. Don’t listen to one or two leaders talk; that’s different. Any party has leaders like them. But look at our policies from Day One,” he said at the opening of the Gerakan national delegates conference yesterday. He said Barisan was still relevant as a ruling coalition now and for the future. “It is not because we say so but because we are willing to change. We hear the voice of Malaysia and we will continue to commit ourselves to the people of Malaysia,” he said.

Najib reiterated that his mission as Prime Minister was to lead all Malaysians. Umno, he said, derived its strength from the country’s racial diversity. “That’s our uniqueness. We can celebrate our diversity,” he added. This, he said, gave Malaysia a strategic advantage in developing diplomatic and economic ties with countries such as China, India and those in the Middle East and Asean.

“We are comfortable dealing with China. In 1974, we were the first South-East Asian country to establish diplomatic relations with China.” To stress his point, he described Chinese President Hu Jintao’s visit to Malaysia on Nov 10 as a trip which “we are comfortable with”. Malaysia, he said, was uniquely placed because the international community and the rakyat trusted Barisan as the ruling government.

“The Opposition does the talking but do the people trust them? Are they really multiracial?” he asked.
The Malay Mail reported yet another case of the sleight-of-hand magicians in Kuala Lumpur.

The Malay Mail reported yet another case of the sleight-of-hand magicians in KL. This time a group of Middle Eastern-looking men ran off with RM1,300 belonging to a cook. The incident occurred outside a bank in Jalan Ampang Besar on Wednesday. Yesterday, Malay Mail reported the same techniques being used in several robberies in Kepong and Petaling Jaya, also by a group of Middle Easternlooking people. However, police have yet to ascertain whether it was the work of the same group.

In the latest incident, the 29-year-old victim was about to leave the bank’s compound when a man knocked on her driver’s window and pointed towards something on the ground. The unsuspecting woman opened her car door and saw a RM1 note. She took the money, said thanks and closed the door.

Suddenly, the man knocked on the window again and pointed at the ground. She opened her car door and saw another RM1 note. Before she could pick it up, another Middle Eastern-looking man opened her front passenger door and took away an envelope containing the cash she had placed there as she entered her car. Shocked by the incident, the woman, in her report, said that she could only watch in disbelief as both men ran away with her money to a waiting getaway car, a Honda Accord.

Ampang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Jalil Hassan who confirmed the case said although this was the first case in the district this month, police would be keeping their eyes open for the group. “We also need the public’s help if we want to catch these culprits,” he said. Abdul Jalil said police believe the suspects had been monitoring the victim’s activity prior to the robbery. The case is being investigated under Section 379 for theft.

Around 15,000 Bibles seized by Malaysian authorities because of name reference to God.

According to Malaysian Yahoo News, Malaysian authorities have confiscated more than 15,000 Bibles in recent months because they referred to “God” as “Allah,” a translation that has been banned in this Muslim-majority country, Christian church officials said Thursday, that’s sure to draw attention from the Christian Federation of Malaysia.

The seizure of the Bibles, imported from neighboring Indonesia, is certain to reignite complaints by religious minorities that their right to practice their faiths freely has come under threat as the government panders to the Muslim majority. A growing sense of discrimination among the minorities is chipping away at Malaysia’s reputation as a harmonious multi-ethnic nation that practices a moderate brand of Islam.

The Rev. Hermen Shastri, general secretary of the Council of Churches of Malaysia, said authorities seized a consignment of 10,000 copies sent from Jakarta to Kuching in Sarawak state on Sept. 11 because the Indonesian-language Bibles contained the word “Allah.” Indonesian language is similar to Malaysian language, both of which use “Allah” as translation for God in both Islamic and Christian traditions.

Another 5,100 Bibles, also imported from Indonesia, were seized in March, said an official from the Bible Society of Malaysia, who asked not to be named for fear of angering the government. A Home Ministry official said he was not aware of the seizures. He said he couldn’t be named without his superiors’ clearance. Malaysia has banned non-Muslims from using the word “Allah” in their texts, saying the word is Islamic and may upset Muslims. About 60 percent of the country’s 28 million people are Malay Muslims while 25 percent are ethnic Chinese and 8 percent are Indians. Many of the Chinese and Indians are Christian followers.

Besides the Bible seizures, Malaysia has been embroiled in other religious disputes. Some were over the conversion of minors to Islam and the religion of deceased people who are said to have converted to Islam secretly before their death. Hindus have also protested the demolition of several temples by Malaysian authorities.

The pilot, Mohd Ehsan Sayyid Abu Tahir, 22, was hurled 30 metres away from the aircraft on impact and suffered injuries to the head and left leg, said Hulu Selangor police chief Supt Norel Azmi Affandi Yahya. His body was found at 8.20pm by the police air unit which located the crashed aircraft after radar failed to detect it at about 4pm, he told reporters at the scene tonight.

Norel Azmi said the windscreen of the aircraft had shattered but there was no other serious damage to the plane. He said Mohd Ehsan, who was clad in a T-shirt and a pair of jeans, had apparently circled the area to find a place to land. His body was sent to the Kuala Kubu Baharu Hospital.

Malaysian Yahoo! News highlighted that after the committee meeting in KL yesterday, PAS leaders are starting to show signs of disunity and defiance within the political party itself.

Malaysian Yahoo! News highlighted that after the committee meeting in KL yesterday, PAS leaders are starting to show signs of disunity and defiance within the political party itself.

Although the PAS central committee meeting yesterday ended with the decision to only hold a political seminar instead of an EGM on Nov 7 and to investigate Selangor PAS, it did manage to highlight the issue of “problematic leaders” in the party.

To political observer Prof Dr Abdul Aziz Bari, the decision was not important as PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat managed to convey his message and the result would be seen in time to come. “He was able to open the eyes of those concerned to see that there were problematic leaders in the party who should be removed. It may not happen now as it’s impossible for these leaders to quit their posts. “But the message will be remembered by the delegates during the next party elections,” said the law lecturer at the International Islamic University Malaysia.

Before this, Nik Aziz had asked PAS to convene an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) to allow the party delegates to decide on the position of certain leaders regarded as problematic, including those seen as pro-Umno.

Among the problematic leaders named by Nik Aziz were PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, deputy president Nasharuddin Mat Isa, secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali and Selangor PAS commissioner Datuk Dr Hasan Ali.

The Malaysian Examinations Syndicate (MES) is ready to help the 17-year-old schoolgirl, who became blind after her face was splashed with acid, to sit for the SPM examination next month if she wants to.

In an article of The Star, the Malaysian Examinations Syndicate (MES) is ready to help the 17-year-old schoolgirl, who became blind after her face was splashed with acid, to sit for the SPM examination next month if she wants to. Education director-general Tan Sri Alimuddin Mohd Dom said the girl could sit for the examination in school or hospital.

“As she has lost her sight due to the attack, the invigilator can read the questions to her while she writes the answers,” he told The Star from the MES HQ in Jalan Duta. Tan Hui Linn, who still cannot speak following the attack, scribbled her intention on a piece of paper in Chinese when asked about the examination possibilities.

She passed the note to her brother Jun Hong, 20, who said his sister, a student of SMK Convent Datuk Keramat, had only a slim chance of sitting for the examination. Alimuddin said the MES tries to accommodate and cater as much as possible for students with disabilities in public examinations.

Students with disabilities need to inform the MES when they register that they need some form of aid during the examination. They are also given extra time when answering exam papers.
