<p>Scratching your head figuring out how to use filters in GA4 and filter using Regex, look no further.</p>

<p>Let&#8217;s say you want to create a report on that tells you how many sessions are coming in for a category that has multiple different types of products or more categories. If you only had URLs to work with, the best way to do this would be using a filter in GA4 or Google Search Console.</p>

<p>For this example, let&#8217;s use a living room furniture category:</p>

<p><strong>Step 1:</strong> In Google Analytics, create a landing page report and then edit the report to add filters. For this example, I want to know the total sessions, conversion rate, revenue, etc. so in the Dimension dropdown I select &#8220;Landing page + query string&#8221;.</p>

<p><strong>Step 2: </strong>Next, select &#8220;Match Type&#8221; and select &#8220;matches partial regex&#8221; then in the field, start typing in all the URL variants you want data on, separate each with a pipe, &#8220;|&#8221;.</p>

<p><strong>Example #1: Living Room Furniture</strong></p>

<p><em>furniture-living|sectional|sofa|loveseat|recliner|arm-chair|fabric-chair|leather-chair|accent-chair|theatre-seat|ottoman|futon|sofa-bed|</em></p>

<p><strong>Example #2: Beds &amp; Bedroom Furniture</strong></p>

<p><em>bedroom|king-bed|queen-bed|full-bed|twin-bed|-bed-|nightstand</em></p>

<p><strong>Example #3: Appliances</strong></p>

<p><em>appliance|freezer|refrigerator|frige|range|oven|dishwasher|microwave|air-fry|mixer|dryer|washer|laundry|pedestal|storage|vacuum|fryer|air-conditioner|fan|humidifier</em></p>

<h2 id="wp-block-themeisle-blocks-advanced-heading-8344feec" class="wp-block-themeisle-blocks-advanced-heading wp-block-themeisle-blocks-advanced-heading-8344feec">Handy tips for buying space saving furniture</h2>

<p>Whether you live in a big city like Toronto, Brampton, Vancouver, Montreal or live in a more rural area and need space saving furniture to maximize your living space, I recommend looking for furniture that doesn&#8217;t take more space that it needs and making sure things can fit through the elevator and tight corridors. Living in smaller spaces like condos, apartments, and townhouses can make your furnishing experience challenging or something to look forward to. I get it, it might be challenging to find <a href="https://www.thebrick.com/collections/small-space-furniture" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">small space furniture</a>, but fear not! I put together some key tips in this ultimate guide to help you navigate the world of small space furniture. From multifunctional designs to space-saving solutions, let&#8217;s delve into the key features to consider when furnishing your cozy sanctuary.</p>

<span id="more-6571"></span>

<p></p>

<h3 id="wp-block-themeisle-blocks-advanced-heading-e0782bc3" class="wp-block-themeisle-blocks-advanced-heading wp-block-themeisle-blocks-advanced-heading-e0782bc3">Versatility is Key</h3>

<p>When space is at a premium, versatility becomes your best friend. Look for furniture pieces that serve dual purposes or offer additional storage. Consider sofa beds that transform effortlessly from a comfortable seating area to a cozy sleeping space for guests. Opt for coffee tables with built-in storage compartments to stow away magazines, remote controls, and other essentials, keeping your living area clutter-free.</p>

<p></p>

<h3 id="wp-block-themeisle-blocks-advanced-heading-6948050e" class="wp-block-themeisle-blocks-advanced-heading wp-block-themeisle-blocks-advanced-heading-6948050e">Scale Matters</h3>

<p>In small spaces, proportion is paramount. Oversized furniture can overwhelm a room and make it feel cramped, while undersized pieces can get lost in the space. Focus on selecting furniture with slim profiles and tailored dimensions that complement the scale of your room. Choose apartment-sized sofas and armchairs with sleek silhouettes to create an illusion of spaciousness without sacrificing comfort.</p>

<p></p>

<h3 id="wp-block-themeisle-blocks-advanced-heading-08dc4d3d" class="wp-block-themeisle-blocks-advanced-heading wp-block-themeisle-blocks-advanced-heading-08dc4d3d">Embrace Modular Designs</h3>

<p>Modular furniture offers unparalleled flexibility, allowing you to customize your layout to suit your evolving needs. Invest in modular seating arrangements that can be rearranged effortlessly to accommodate different activities or adapt to changing guest numbers. Modular shelving units are also a great option for maximizing vertical space while providing ample display and storage opportunities.</p>

<p></p>

<h3 id="wp-block-themeisle-blocks-advanced-heading-c02aedb7" class="wp-block-themeisle-blocks-advanced-heading wp-block-themeisle-blocks-advanced-heading-c02aedb7">Opt for Lightweight Materials</h3>

<p>When it comes to small space furniture, weight matters. Opt for pieces crafted from lightweight materials like aluminum, acrylic, or lightweight woods such as birch or bamboo. Not only are these materials easier to maneuver in tight quarters, but they also contribute to a sense of airiness and openness in your space. Additionally, consider furniture with transparent elements, such as glass or acrylic, which can visually expand your room by allowing light to pass through unobstructed.</p>

<p></p>

<h3 id="wp-block-themeisle-blocks-advanced-heading-6ea510e1" class="wp-block-themeisle-blocks-advanced-heading wp-block-themeisle-blocks-advanced-heading-6ea510e1">Look out for Foldable and Expandable Options</h3>

<p>Folding and expandable furniture are lifesavers in small spaces, offering the convenience of extra seating or surface area when needed, and tucking away discreetly when not in use. Look for dining tables with drop-leaf or extendable designs that can accommodate intimate dinners or dinner parties with ease. Folding chairs and nesting tables are also invaluable additions to your small space arsenal, providing extra seating and surface space without taking up precious real estate.</p>

<p></p>

<h3 id="wp-block-themeisle-blocks-advanced-heading-0fdfff53" class="wp-block-themeisle-blocks-advanced-heading wp-block-themeisle-blocks-advanced-heading-0fdfff53">Prioritize Storage Solutions</h3>

<p>In small living spaces, effective storage solutions are non-negotiable. Seek out furniture pieces with built-in storage compartments, such as ottomans with hidden storage or beds with drawers underneath. Consider investing in wall-mounted shelves, floating cabinets, or multifunctional storage units to maximize vertical space while keeping your belongings organized and accessible.</p>

<p></p>

<h3 id="wp-block-themeisle-blocks-advanced-heading-6ed0a1da" class="wp-block-themeisle-blocks-advanced-heading wp-block-themeisle-blocks-advanced-heading-6ed0a1da">Where Can I Find Small Space Furniture?</h3>

<p>I&#8217;m biased, but the first place I&#8217;ve shopped for space saving furniture is <a href="https://www.thebrick.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Brick</a>. The Brick is not only Canada&#8217;s largest furniture company, but they&#8217;ve got an incredible team to help you.</p>

<p>Navigating the world of small space furniture may seem daunting at first, but armed with the right knowledge and mindset, you can transform your compact abode into a stylish and functional retreat. Remember to prioritize versatility, scale, and storage solutions when selecting furniture pieces, and don&#8217;t be afraid to think outside the box with modular designs and lightweight materials. With careful consideration and a dash of creativity, you can create a cozy oasis that maximizes every inch of your space, ensuring comfort, style, and functionality for years to come. Happy furnishing!</p>

<p>I just learned about CSS variables last week so I&#8217;m sharing it with you.</p>

<p>CSS variables work like assigning a value to a variable and you can create global variables and local variables.</p>

<p>Global CSS Variables are set in within the &#8220;root:&#8221; selector. Many WordPress theme developers use global CSS variables because its easy to control the theme styles.</p>

<p>To override any of these CSS variables, create your CSS like normal by stating which selector you want to edit, then instead of specifying the attribute name, you&#8217;re going to use the CSS variable name. Next, you need to assign the value to the attribute</p>

<p>Here&#8217;s an example of changing the colour of your links:</p>

<div class="hcb_wrap"><pre class="prism line-numbers lang-css" data-lang="CSS"><code>a:where(:not(.wp-element-button)) {
   --wp--preset--color--raft-fg: #1763b6;
   color: var(--wp--preset--color--raft-fg);
}</code></pre></div>

<p>I hope this helps you.</p>

<p>I&#8217;m redesigning one of my sites and will be adding Google Adsense code. For one of the banner placements, I want the site to automatically show by loading the code to display the wider banner if the user is using a desktop device. And, if the user is using a mobile device, I want the site to load the code to display a banner that is narrower &amp; taller.</p>

<p>Like this:</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="2532" height="510" src="https://www.kingrosales.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/desktop-banner-area.png" alt="" class="wp-image-6446" srcset="https://www.kingrosales.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/desktop-banner-area.png 2532w, https://www.kingrosales.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/desktop-banner-area-400x81.png 400w, https://www.kingrosales.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/desktop-banner-area-810x163.png 810w, https://www.kingrosales.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/desktop-banner-area-768x155.png 768w, https://www.kingrosales.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/desktop-banner-area-1536x309.png 1536w, https://www.kingrosales.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/desktop-banner-area-2048x413.png 2048w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 2532px) 100vw, 2532px" /></figure>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://www.kingrosales.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/mobile-banner-area.png" alt="" class="wp-image-6447" style="width:504px;height:166px" width="504" height="166" srcset="https://www.kingrosales.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/mobile-banner-area.png 1008w, https://www.kingrosales.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/mobile-banner-area-400x132.png 400w, https://www.kingrosales.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/mobile-banner-area-810x267.png 810w, https://www.kingrosales.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/mobile-banner-area-768x253.png 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 504px) 100vw, 504px" /></figure>

<p>The theme I am using, gives me a spot to add &#8220;code&#8221;. This meant that I can use HTML, CSS and JavaScript. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://www.kingrosales.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/code-editor-area.png" alt="" class="wp-image-6444" style="width:280px;height:166px" width="280" height="166" srcset="https://www.kingrosales.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/code-editor-area.png 560w, https://www.kingrosales.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/code-editor-area-400x237.png 400w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 280px) 100vw, 280px" /></figure>

<p>After doing some digging around, I found the simplest, yet sophisticated, approach to make this work using &#8220;typeof screen.orientation&#8221;. </p>

<p>Here&#8217;s how to implement it:</p>

<div class="hcb_wrap"><pre class="prism line-numbers lang-js" data-lang="JavaScript"><code>if (typeof screen.orientation !== &#39;undefined&#39;) {
   document.write(&quot;Desktop Code Here&quot;);
} else {
   document.write(&quot;Mobile Code Here&quot;);
}</code></pre></div>

<p>The final step is to replace the &#8220;Deskop/Mobile Code Here&#8221; with your actual Google Adsense Javascript and thats it.</p>

<p>I hope this helps you.</p>

<p>I’m redesigning one of my websites that has a menu area that allows users to select the city closest to them. I want to modernize the design and my theory is that using a horizontal scrolling menu will make it easier for users to select their closest city. </p>

<p>I&#8217;ve seen this also used with breadcrumb trails and a way to showcase a list of brand logos and I&#8217;ll likely use this on this website, specifically on my homepage where I share the different companies I&#8217;ve worked with.</p>

<p>Before I implement the code, i&#8217;ll be mocking up the designs in Figma or Adobe XD then testing the design with some end users (a.k.a. colleagues and friends).</p>

<p>To make the horizontal scrolling menu work, I&#8217;m going to share the HTML and CSS below so you can test and try it out on one of your projects.</p>

<p>The key to make this work is using the overflow-x attribute, and setting the value as, &#8220;scroll&#8221;. Like this, &#8220;overflow-x: scroll&#8221;.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Example</h2>

<style>
.my-nav {
  margin: 0;
  padding: 0;
  list-style: none;
  width: 640px;
}
.my-nav li {
  float: left;
}
.my-nav li a, .my-nav li a:link, .my-nav li a:visited {
  color: #000;
  font-size: 15px;
}
.my-nav li a:hover {
  border-bottom: 4px solid #CCC;
}
a.btn-nav.tab-active, a.btn-nav.tab-active:visited, a.btn-nav.tab-active:hover {
  color: #27a020;
  border-bottom: 4px solid #27a020;
}
.btn-nav {
  display: block;
  text-align: center;
  padding:15px 25px;
}

@media (max-width: 640px){
  .parent {
    overflow-y:hidden;
    overflow-x:scroll;
  }
  .my-nav {
    height: 70px;
    width: 600px;
  }
}
</style>
<div class="col-md-10 parent">
        <ul class="my-nav">
        <li><a class="btn-nav tab-active" href="#">Toronto</a></li>
          <li><a class="btn-nav" href="">Calgary</a></li>
          <li><a class="btn-nav" href="">Edmonton</a></li>
          <li><a class="btn-nav" href="">Vancouver</a></li>
        </ul>
</div>
<div style="clear:left;"></div>

<div style="height:32px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">HTML</h2>

<div class="hcb_wrap"><pre class="prism line-numbers lang-html" data-lang="HTML"><code>&lt;div class=&quot;col-md-10 parent&quot;&gt;
        &lt;ul class=&quot;my-nav&quot;&gt;

        &lt;/ul&gt;
&lt;/div&gt;</code></pre></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">CSS</h2>
