LSS of the Week: Timbaland feat Katy Perry - If We Ever Meet Again

I wasn’t able to get much updates because I've been busy with work during the weekdays and pretty much out of town during weekends. What's currently on repeat on the iPod right now is Timbaland's If We Ever Meet Again feat Katy Perry. Just found out that the track was inspired by the BEP's I Gotta Feeling, and what's different about this track is that Timbaland sings (not that good though) rather than raps.
For those who have'nt heard the news Timbaland will be having a concert on March 27,2010 8PM at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds. The first time I heard this, I was wondering how the concert will push thru since most of his tracks are collaboration with other artist. Good thing he will be bringing Justin Timberlake and Jojo to Manila since the two collaborated with him in his latest album Shock Value II. As for me, disappointed with the canceled The Killers: Live in Manila tour last month, I'll just decide to buy tickets a week before the concert.

Summer Anthems for 2010

Sure Valentines Day is just around the corner, but summer’s cool breezes, sun, surf and parties are already here. So, to enjoy the carefree days ahead I’ve compiled a list again of the summer anthems for the year.Rather than rhyme off the songs that reference summer in their title or lyrics. I'll be dishin' out songs that will inspire you to think of nothing but blue skies, scorching heat and white sand. Take a break from the daily grind.

1. Candy in the Sun by Swirl 360
Summer wouldn't be summer without sun, surf and sand. Probably one of the songs you'll be singing out with your friends. This track was included in the soundtrack of the movie Never Been Kissed by Drew Barrymore and David Arquette.

2. First of Summer by Urbandub
If you're looking for a perfect song that will kick off your summer escapades, then I suggest putting this song on your playlist. Started with slow drumbeat then a sudden burst of "Parked car, this night sky,Makes city lights shine like diamonds" followed by the cheesy line "Our song plays on the radio", Panalo! For some reason Urbandub has always come up with a summer anthem from every album they release.

3.Amber by 311
Sweet and mellow reggae song that will put you in a relaxed mode while looking at the beach. This song was included in the summer theme movie 50 First Dates by Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore.

4.Love in New Wave - Electrico
An awesome awesome song from Singaporean band Electrico taken from the album Hip City. This song makes me forget about my worries and just want to make love in new wave.

5.Kickin' It With You - Jason Mraz
A new song taken from the movie soundtrack When In Rome. Probably not as adorable compare to his previous hit "I'm Yours' but Mr. Mraz never ceased to amazed me. Listen to this while you're walkin with special someone on the beach.

6.Strong as the Sun - Astronauts
This was supposed to be included in my summer anthem last year. Another song you'll be listening when you just want to lay down on the beach and sip on some cold drinks.

7.Do You Remember - Jay Sean feat Lil Jon and Sean Paul
Great follow up effort after his first hit "Down". Another radio-friendly hit, and Jay Sean sounded great on these verses with great auto tune-less verses. Feel good music right here, perfect for the ladies, but I really respect perfection.

8.Soak Up The Sun - Sheryl Crow
She's just talking about how things suck for her, but she's still happy. She's telling everyone to lighten up. Sunny days make me happy.

9.One Day - Matishyahu
Not exactly a summer song but the first time I heard this I thought it was great not only because it was catchy and well done, but because the lyrics are really saying something.

10. Pure Shores - All Saints
The song is about escaping reality, to a paradise that comes to life in the book and the movie known as "The Beach". This song is great for getting it on, like in the beach.

Movie Releases for the Month of February

Here's the new official list of movies coming out this month. Compare to the movies shown last month, but there are a couple interesting picks to watch out for including Shutter Island, Valentine's Day and Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief to name a few.Since this is the love month one might consider to watch romantic movies like the Yellow Handkerchief, Dear John and I Love You Phillip Morris.

LSS of the Week: Hallucinations - Angels and Airwaves

It's been three years now since Angels and Airwaves release I-Empire this year we'll be looking forward for the release of the new Angels and Airwaves album "Love" to be release on February 14,2010.

The first single from the album is entitled "Hallucinations", from the likes of it the album is supposed to explore the meaning of love, and the single definitely supports this claim. A very catchy song if you ask me as they have'nt lost a grip on their musical styles, just listen to We Don't Need to Whisper and I-Empire.
From recent interview Tom DeLonge said that the album will have progressive-rock kind of flavor. "It's like blending Radiohead and U2 together with these kind of Pink Floyd movements", he explains. "Things happen unpredictably and take you to these epic soundscapes. It's very much in the spirit of Angels & Airwaves, but it sounds way, way more thought-out and way more ambitious." Hallucinations can be downloaded free from their website.

Movie Releases for the Month of January

Last year when I started my so called blog, my first post was The Top 10 Most Anticipated Films for 2009. Unfortunately some of the listed movies were move to a another screening date and other are still in production. So this year instad of making a list of movies to watch out for the whole year I'll be posting the movies that will be release every month (at least in the U.S., something we'll look forward here in the Phillippines).

*Daybreakers

Cast: Ethan Hawke, Willem Defoe, Sam Neill,Isabel Lucas

Synopsis: In the year 2019, a plague has transformed most every human into vampires. Faced with a dwindling blood supply, the fractured dominant race plots their survival; meanwhile, a researcher works with a covert band of vamps on a way to save humankind.

The film holds a 76% fresh rating from Rotten Tomatoes. From reviews I've read the movie is pretty good as some critics call it groundbreaking vampire sci-fi action.

Leap Year

Cast: Amy Adams, Matthew Goode, Kaitlin Olson, Adam Scott

Synopsis:A woman (Adams) who has an elaborate scheme to propose to her boyfriend on Leap Day, an Irish tradition which occurs every time the date February 29 rolls around, faces a major setback when bad weather threatens to derail her planned trip to Dublin. With the help of an innkeeper, however, her cross-country odyssey just might result in her getting engaged.

Book of Eli

Cast: Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, Mila Kunis, Ray Stevenson

Synopsis: In post-apocalyptic 2043, a lone hero, Eli (Denzel Washington), guards the Book of Eli, which provides knowledge that could redeem society, and the source of all their pain. The despot of a small makeshift town (Gary Oldman) plans to take possession of the book.

Youth in Revolt

Cast: Michael Cera, Portia Doubleday, Jean Smart,Justin Long,Steve Buscemi

Synopsis: Nick Twisp (Michael Cera) is a cynical sex-obsessed 16-year-old who, while on vacation in a trailer park, meets Sheeni Saunders (Portia Doubleday), an intellectual and beautiful girl. The only things really standing in his way are Sheeni's poetry-writing ex-boyfriend Trent (Jonathan Wright), Nick's temperamental divorced parents (Steve Buscemi and Jean Smart), and Nick's mom's boyfriends. My First Year-End Post: The Year That Was 2009

I was supposed to post this yesterday as my year-end post but I was lazy to do so. Na-inspire lang ako sa post ng aking idol kaya every year-end gagawin ko na din to. 2009 the country went to a different loss and heartaches nevertheless it was a great year. I won't be making this post long, here are the Top 10 events that make the headlines last 2009.

1. Francism Death + Eraserheads Final Set

The death King of Pinoy Rap was unexpected, I was looking forward pa naman of seeing him perform with the Eraserheads' Final Set.

2 Swine Flu

Medyo nakaka-panic then kasi we went to HK last June tapos nalaman ko pa na may officemates akong may swine flu after returning sa Pilipinas.Whew!

3 Manny Pacquiao

Knocking out Ricky Hatton (East vs West) in the second round via Manny's left hook and eventually defeating Miguel Cotto (Firepower) via TKO earned him as the Boxer of the Year for the third time. He is also the first boxer to win seven world titles in seven weight divisions. Too bad the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight has been called off due to some disagreements on the Olympic style of drug testing.

4 Hayden Kho
Eventually becoming a household name after his sex video was leaked in the cyberspace. If I can remember the first video was with Katrina Halili, eventually dragging Maricar Reyes (daym!) and the Brazillian model. The song "Careless Whisper" became popular again because of the so called Hayden Cam scandal.

5. Le Cirque

Just when we thought that the world was experiencing global recession PGMA and her large entourage ran up $20,000 dinner in Le Cirque.Sana nalason na lang sila nong kinain nila to!

6 Cory Aquino
The first female president and head state in Asia. We all remember her as the Philippines Icon of Democracy after leading the 1986 Edsa Revolution died of colon cancer. Good thing I was able to see her cortege around Ayala Ave. en route to Manila Cathedral. Salamat Tita Cory!

7. Ondoy Probably the worst recorded flood in the Phillippines history, flooding the cities of Marikina, Manila, Pasig, QC, Antipolo to name a few. What's good about is despite the chaos that Ondoy brought us, Pinoys never lose hope.

8 2010 Election
I was'nt able to register in the upcoming May 2010 election because I was so busy with work. But if I were to choose among the presidentiables, my vote would be on Gibo or Gordon.

9 Maguindanao Massacre

Totally lost for words. Let's pray for the souls of the victims in this tragedy. Justice for the victims of the Maguindanao Massacre and sana managot ang mga taong may kagagawan nito.

10 Mount Mayon

Just when we're about to end the 2009 at sa dami ng problema ng Pilipinas nakuha pang humabol ng Mayon sa mga trahedya ng 2009.

The web has been buzzing about Tim Burton's movie adaptation on Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland even before the teaser trailer was leaked online. As always Tim Burton's take of one of the world's most beloved stories will be a blockbuster hit that's for sure. My Grown Up Christmas List

Few more days before Christmas. It's too late putting up Christmas wishlist I know pero sabi nga nila hindi masamang mangarap. So if someone out there is kind enough to grant all my wishes, see updated list below:

1. Apple MacBook MB466LL/A 13.3-Inch Laptop. It's been two week

since I sold my ever reliable laptop. This will be a great replacement for Compaq as I definitely need this for file sharing, quick photo processing, Ipod syncing, watching movies etc. Sad thing though is that most of my time are spent working in the office meaning I won't be able to fully utilize this laptop.

2. Any Ipod Dock. Pero mas OK kung BOSE and as long as will fit 3rd Gen Ipod touch. Ideal for background music while drinking beer with friends.

3.Any brand of portable 2 TB external HD. I love to organize my files from photos to video files, that's why last year a bought a 1TB Western Digital Mybook. Sadly there is no more space left for new files.A 2TB

external HD is very much welcome.

4.Wii and PS3. Rock Band Beatles. DJ Hero. Mario Kart. Smash Bros.

NBA 2K10. Assasins Creed. Resdident Evil 5. Call of Duty - Modern Warfare.

Metal Gear Solid 4 - Guns of Patriot. What's not to love about this game consoles? A great way to spend my time with the wife and the kids will be having the two consoles Wii for the kids and PS3 for me.

5. Marvel's Dark Reign TPB/ DC's The Blackest Night.

From wikipedia,The Blackest Night storyline revolves around a personified force of death resurrecting deceased superheroes and seeking to eliminate all life and emotion from the DC universe.As the War of Light rages on, the prophecy of the Blackest Night descends upon us, with Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps at the center of it all.Dark Reign on the other hand deals with the aftermath of Secret Invasion which led to a shift of power in Marvel universe, Norman Osborn's rise to global power.

Damn! I feel like a kid again.:)

6. Condo near Makati. This has been on my wishlist ever since I started working.

As of now the wife and I are on the selection process the nicest, safest and of course affordable payment scheme. Having your own place and being able to make your own rules is a great feeling especially having two makukulit na kids.

The Killers: Live in Manila

Just read this from Rico Blanco's tumblr, The Killers will be coming to the Philippines this January 31,2010 in SM Mall of Asia. I 've been a fan of this band way back from their first album when my officemate told me to try listening to Hot Fuss. Since then Mr. Brightside has always been part of my repertoire in every videoke we had. I'll probably save up for this one since Ne-yo will be having a concert at an earlier date, January 11,2010 in Araneta Coliseum.

Everybody Wants to be the President

The 11-day filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) has ended and drew number of hopefuls vying for national and local positions. What I really like during the application of COC is when nuisance candidates get the spotlight and gave their plans for our country.

Our only hope.

Rigoberto Madera Jr. "Emperor of the World" who claims to be a "six -star general". According to him he is winning in the latest surveys in the list of presidentiables.If by chance he'll win in the May 2010 election he would move on to conquer United States, United Nation and eventually the world.

Another presidentiable who introduced himself as Manny Lopez claims that he can stand up against the likes of Noynoy and Gibo. He also told the press that he's way better than Obama eventhough he has no political backing or whatsoever . To quote Lopez said, “Walang sinabi si Obama. Pwede naman ako sumabay sa kanila. Bakit? Kahit hindi ako mag-ayos baka mas guwapo pa ako sa kanila."

Actually their agenda for the country is even better compared to the prominent presidentiables(imagine world domination). Tomorrow we'll be making the grade to the serious contenders ala NBA power rankings. FYI for those who are not in the know The Mole err PGMA is running as congresswoman in Pampanga, only in Pinas.

500 Days of Summer

It's been awhile since I've watch a romantic comedy this good and appealing again. Nowadays few films capture the sensation of falling in love as well as this movie does.As you all know,Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays Tom,a wannabe architect who falls in love with Summer (Zooey Deschanel) at the Los Angeles greeting card production company where both work. It’s flawlessly played romantic comedy, endlessly inventive, and if you’ve ever experienced the darker side of young love,incredibly true to life without coming off as cliched or patronizing. Kudos to director Marc Webb and writers Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber for bringing all sorts of cinematic tricks to a genre that normally has little use for them.

Reasons why this movie will eventually end up as the most original date movie of the year:
-The movie kicks off with the omniscient narrator saying,"This is a story of boy meets girl, but you should know upfront, this is not a love story". And so the tension begins.

-Love the achronological narrative and contrast the highs and lows of the hero's infatuation for wild comic effect
in which intertitles assigning action to specific points on a 500 day timeline

-Love the chemistry between Joseph Gordon-Levitt (The Lookout) and everyone’s favorite cute, quasi-bohemian crush, Zooey Deschanel, in the role of Summer. Tom Hanssen registers every ounce of hope, joy and angst beneath his geeky demeanour and

-Love the scene when Tom does not take the break up well and Tom's friends call his younger sister, Rachel to calm him down. Wishing I had this kid sister who will tell me to quit being a pussy.

-The reenactment of the famous “but do you like me like me” scene from The Wonder Years at the only karaoke bar. Summer and Tom grow closer after McKenzie slips that Tom is attracted to Summer.

- The spontaneous production number, where strangers on the street fall into
line with the dancing hero after his first night of romance with Summer. Probably not the first time it happens in a movie but the execution has impeccable timing that they feel fresh.

-When they watch the movie Vagiant "Part Vampire Part Giant", their escapades in IKEA and shower sex after watching the adult movie "Sweet and Shower".

-The shoutout loud of "penis!" in the park.

-The clever splitscreen to show the expectation vs. the reality when Tom tries to woo Summer back.

-And of course the fantastic soundtracks that include Patrick Swayze’s "She’s Like the Wind", Hero by "Regina Spektor", The Smiths "There is a Light that Never Goes Out" and "Please,Please,Please Let Me Get What I Want".

Love is indeed gloriously unpredictable, effortlessly fresh and, at its best, leaves you high as a kite.

Yesterday I was looking forward to finish my task before Wednesday but then another FML moment ruin what could have been a weekend to look forward to. I'm like Sam Briggs in a way I tend to attract trouble. Bad things has happened in rapid succession this day. What I've Been Missing Lately

Lately I've been ranting about being so busy for this past few months with regards to work. I've been sacrificing my TV series time with work or sleeping time. These instances cause me to missed a lot of TV series lately, to name a few season 2 of True Blood and Leverage. As you all know the second or third week of September paves way to another season of Dexter, Fringe, Heroes,Star Wars and don't forget to mention another new show called Glee.

As of last week I was able to finish the latest episodes of Fringe. To give a breakdown on what has happened this past episodes, Olivia does'nt seem to remember what happened from her trip in the parallel universe (see "There's More Than One of Everything"). She is followed and hunted down by a shape-shifting assasin in the first episode to get the details of her trip. Episodes 2.02 (A Night of Desirable Objects) and 2.03 (Fracture) are merely filler episodes. On the recent episode 2.04 (Momentum Deferred), Olivia eventually remember her conversations with William Bell and her responsibility of stopping the "The Stom". In the end of the episode she discovers that Charlie is the shapeshifter and as a cliffhanger the shapeshifters find the head they were searching for and attach it to its body.

As for America's beloved serial killer,Dexter is back with a bloody promising season 4. As you all know he is now married to Rita and has to balance his time as a father and as a serial killer. FBI Special Agent Frank Lundy from season 2 returns to Miami to assist in the investigation of the "Trinity Killer". In the fourth season's first episode, Dexter crashes his car after he fall asleep eventually leaving him to suffer amnesia. Not really that much of happening on the show as we speak eventually the plot thickens once the show focuses on the cat and mouse game between Dexter and the Trinity Killer.

Season 4 of Heroes is entitled as "Redemption" exactly what the series need since its disappointing Season 3. I kind of like how the previous season started but then it just continues to decline, I'm hoping that season 4 won't be like that. The show was a lot of fun in the first season and acceptable in season 2 but has been crap since season 3. Maybe the addition of T-Bag (Robert Knepper) and Ray Parks will notch up my interest in this show. And if if Hayden Panettiere won't show up in her cheerleader outfit I will completely dump this show.

If, for some silly reason, you are not familiar with Glee, go and download episodes 1-6.Glee is probably the freshest, fun, endearing show of the year.

Due to financial problems the team managed to build a team composed of role players and inexperienced rookies. Expect them to show a good fight in every game they will play this coming season. Smart Gilas will be an added attraction this Phillipine Cup playing as a guest team. Making up the Smart Gilas team is Chris Tiu, Mark Barroca, JV Casio, RJ Jazul, Dylan Ababou, JR Cawaling, Rey Guevarra, Ryan Buenafe, Mac Baracael, Aldresh Ramos, Jason Ballesteros, Magi Sison, Greg Slaughter, Rabeh Al-Hussaini, Junmar Fajardo, Paul Lee and import CJ Giles. Smart Gilas defeated an out of shape Powerade Team last Monday in the recenly concluded fund raising game wherein the outplayed Powerade in all aspect. The 35th season Philippine Basketball Association will open this coming Sunday, October 11. As usual off-season moves and promising new rookies will spice up the upcoming season. The killerfiller will make a season preview of each team that will be competing in the KFC Phillipine Cup.

Alaska Aces

Not so much changes as their line up is still in tact. I can see them sitting for the number 1 to 4 slots after the eliminations. Where the team goes depends on Willie Miller's performance this season. Sophomore Borboran and Dela Pena will provide energy on the bench as second stringers.

WHLY: Lost to San Miguel in the Quarter Finals.

The big problem for this team is to be able to play with or without Japeth Aguilar in the line up. The new recruits need to contribute immediately for them to be successful. With Yeng Guiao at the helm expect a defending and running team.

Coca Cola Tigers
WHLY:Lost to San Miguel in Wild Card 1st Round

Release several players from their lineup and underwent rebuilding process this off-season. Loaded with swingmen in their lineup (Cabagnot,Ross,Macapagal,Cruz) taking advantage with their speed will surely gain them success. The only problem is their aging frontline (Taulava,Espino) when they implementa a run and gun offense.

Purefoods TJ Giants
WHLY: Lost to Air21 in the Wild Card 1st Round.

After a dismal performance last season they've active in the off-season by re-acquiring Pingris and they also picked De La Salle University Archer Rico Maierhofer in the draft. Look for this talented team to be competing with teams like San Miguel,Alaska,Talk 'n Text in the semis.

Most of us are frustrated and annoyed when we received spam messages in our inbox in our personal email. Emails with advertisement, promos, adult content, and chain letters are always included in my deleted items so to speak. I personally get to read some of the messages that are down right funny. Here's an email that have been in my personal email for over 2 or 3 years now. This message never fails to make me laugh.

I thought Jay's ex-girlfriend was really out of our lives. But heaven only goes that I was wrong. Kakakasal pa lang namin nun when Jay received a uninamous text. "Meet me at the clinic." I had a stinking feeling in my butt. I told him not to go. It might in danger him. Pero sabi niya, ok lang daw because life is what we make. Tumahimik lang ako. Sabi niya, "Penny for you talks." But I didn't know what to say. Beggars can't be losers. Isa pa, worried talaga ako na baka yung girl yun. Jay said, "Can't got your tongue?" I tried to smile at him. Kahit di ako nagsalita, actions speak louder than works, di ba?

Be that as is may, umalis pa rin siya. I was out of the loophole. After a few hours, I called him on his cellphone. But my calls fell on Jeff's ears. Lalo akong nag-worry kasi I didn't even know Jeff. Sabi
na nga ba di na dapat umalis si Jay. That's what I'm talking about it.

So I tried calling some friends who will help me find Jay. That's what friends are for naman di ba? But I just faced a blank mall. I had to do this alone. Nag-taxi na lang ako. Pero ang mahal na pala ng plug down rate.

When I got to the clinic, the security was really buffed up. Di basta-basta makakapasok. So I said, "I beg your cordon. I'm patient. It's my favorite virtue nga e." Nagduda yata yung isang guard. Hinawakan ako sa arm. The nerd! I shouted, "Don't touch me not!" Buti na lang the other guards were nice and said, "Come on, let's join us."

When I went inside, parang I've been there, done there. Nung walang nakatingin, nag-explore ako. Nakarating ako sa top floor and I had a bird's IQ of the clinic. I could not explain it but I was drawn to a room on the floor. Siguro Divine Intermission na yun.

Parang may narinig akong umuungol. I was thorn. Di ko alam kung aalis ba ako o papasukin ko. It made me stick in the stomach to think that Jay and his ex-girlfriend were there. I tried to tell myself to slower my expectations. But to tell with it! I had to strike while the iron is not. I had to hear the truth from the corpse's mouth. I barraged in. O my gas! Si Jay, naka-strap sa operating table, parang genie pig sa isang nakakatakot na experiment. He was on the cutting edge. He was bleeding. At ang doctor na nagpapahirap sa kanya, ang ex-girlfriend niya at ang bago nitong boyfriend, ang nurse na si Walter. Doon ko napatunayang blood is thicker than Walter.

Guess watch? Di ko alam kung paano ko nagawa pero I was able to search and rescue Jay. Siguro adrenaline brush na yun.

Now, he's recovering. Nag-sorry siya na hindi siya nakinig sa akin. I know it's a better pill to swallow your fried so it's forgive and forget me not. All swell that end swell. I know we should kiss and put on makeup.

Ang ex-girlfriend naman niya at si Walter, nakakulong na. Detention is really better than cure. So the moral of the lesson is: if symptoms persist, insult your doctor.

Life on Support

Today officially marks my one year working as an analyst/programmer-production support for an insurance company. I was actually hired as a analyst/programmer in development-deployment team for an up and coming project for the company but then due to unforeseen circumstances (aka recession) I end up in production support team. In a nutshell in any organization a production support group starts with the following process: submission of raised tickets, analysis and design phase, code unit testing, system-integration tests and the formal build. And just like any other job being in a production support has its pros and cons. Here's a rundown of the pros and cons of being in a production support group.

PROS:

You will have a chance to talk directly to the client even if it means speaking in barok English so that the client will understand you.
You will be able to manage your time staying in the office. It all depends on the severity level of the ticket you're supporting. SEV 1 means you can't go home!(Patay!)
Personally I was introduced to a lot of documents namely: BRD,RCA,RCD, SRS,Test Plan,Release Notes and the build release email trail.

CONS:

80 % of your time will be spent in investigating (root cause analysis,impact analysis,estimation etc.) and 20% will be spent in coding.
In terms of technical growth, malabo talaga na makuha mo dito aside from the fact that 20% of your time will be spent coding, most applications that you will be supporting are not that new. I'm a sucker for open source that's why I really hate this part.
Prepare for long code tracing/debugging since this are not your codes.
No self-fulfillment since you did'nt start from scratch.

As you can see there are more cons than the pros and I'm not actually complaining on what I'm doing right now. It just came in to my realization that for one to be able to stay for a year or more in their work they must have love what they are doing (or do they have a choice?). In times that I have a clamor/complain on anything, I always remember this quote "In search of something better the worst is always the best".

It's been a busy week since the application I'm handling is now in SIT. Buti na lang last day of the work week. Woot! Woot! Haven't heard any song that stuck in my head until I saw this creative flowchart of Total Eclipse of the Heart from the net.
