When choosing the right lawn mower tire, it is important to consider the brand of the lawn mower tire.

High quality brand lawn mower tires such as Carlisle tend to be bigger sized and weigh more. Cheap lawn mower tires tend to be undersized. If you stand a high quality brand lawn mower tire next to a cheaper lawn mower tire, you will see that the high quality mower tire is usually taller. You definitely don’t want to different sizes on your lawn mower!

A cheap, no name brand lawn mower tire may not only be undersized, it may only last couple seasons. A good quality brand mower tire could last 10 years or more. Like the old adage says, “You get what you pay for!”

Before you can buy a lawn mower tire, you will need to know the tire size and the ply rating of the lawn mower tire. You can find your lawn mower tires ply rating on the sidewall of the tire.

Ply rating and load capacity are very important when purchasing a lawn mower tire. Most lawn mower tires are 2 ply, 4 ply or 6 ply. The higher the ply rating the more weight, or load, the tire can carry. It is important that your tire has the proper ply rating or you risk the tire being overloaded. This can cause the lawn mower tire to fail prematurely.

Always check your old lawn mower tires play rating, and replace with the new lawn mower tire with the same or higher ply rating.

You’re looking at your riding lawn mower in your garage and it looks a little bit off-kilter. Then you notice your plans for mowing will have to be delayed. Your rear tire is flat and it looks to like it needs to be replaced.

So where do you start. What information do you need so you can call the tire dealer and get it the right tire, the first time?

Well, the good news is, all the information you need is on the tire’s sidewall.

Let’s take a look…

The first number in your lawn mower tire size represents the height
the second number represents the width, and the third number represents the rim diameter size

And one more thing, all lawn mower tires are designated NHS or Non Highway Service, which means they are not designed for speeds over 10 mph.

We see a lot of questions online about tubes in general, especially tractor tire tubes.

This question was on a forum and the person wanted to know if there was anything special about an 9.5×24 tractor tube, because when we searched online for answers it got to be a little confusing.

First things first. Most tubes fit more than one tire size. In this case the correct tube is an 8.3/9.5×24, meaning it fits both an 8.3×24 and 9.5×24 tractor tire size.

Then the next question was about radial vs bias tubes.

Bias tubes are still available, but most dealers buy only radial because you can use them in bias OR radial tires, whereas a bias tube can only be used in a bias tire. Why double you inventory if you are a dealer.

Finally there was some confusion on the valve stem. Standard rubber valve stems (like car tubes) are generally not available in tractor tube sizes. Tractor tubes come with a TR218 valve stem, which is a threaded valve stem, with a screw-out center for installing air/liquid. This valve also comes with a locking nut that prevents the tube from being sucked back into the tire.

So those are the three main pointers when buying tractor tire tubes.

As always, call us with any questions on tires and tubes – 1-800-225-9513. Or checkout www.kenjones.com for more information.

It’s that time of year again…at least here in the Northeast. Well, this year it has been “That time of year” in January and February as well, with the unusual spring-like weather.

Golf Courses are ready to roll out the read carpet, getting the course in top shape, refurbishing the equipment and firing up the golf car fleet. Its a good time to inspect those tires.

Over the years, Ken Jones Tires has carried golf tire brands such as Titan, Carlisle, Duro, Deestone and Kenda. More recently we have narrowed down the field to Carlisle and Kenda mainly because they are quality golf tire brands and the are original equipment on the major lines of golf cars such as Club Car, EZ-Go and Yamaha.

The Kenda Hole-N-1 is the big player in this market and here’s why:
– Unique tread pattern and rounded shoulder for minimal turf damage AND long tread life on paved cart
paths.
– Premium quality and a reputation for ability to withstand daily use and abuse.
– Great price.

We are currently running a spring special on the Kens Hole-N-1.

If you’re a Superintendent or Mechanic, give us a call at 1-800-225-9513 for a great deal. (phone orders only – while supplies last)

Attention: All Skid Steer Dealers or Owners

There’s a new player in town, and it’s a “beast”.

Introducing the 12×16.5 12 ply Mitas Bulk SK-05…a strong competitor in the severe service skid steer tire market.

The biggest complaint we get from customers is that the standard R-4 lug design just doesn’t last. And if you operate your machine on asphalt or concrete for any period of time, tread wear does go down dramatically.

This Mitas tire is a nice addition to the “deep tread” skid steer tire category because it matches the SUPER DEEP tread ( 44/32nds ) and the price is excellent, when compared to the competition!

If you operate a rental fleet, these tires would be a nice addition and they won’t break the bank either.
Here are some more stats:

     – Unique tread pattern for excellent traction in soft soil AND longer life on hard surfaces.
– Super Deep 44/32nds tread depth
– Cut and chunk resistant tread compound
– Extra thick sidewall bar and rim guard for extra protection against abrasive

Click here for pricing. **Dealers call 1-800-225-9513 for Special Discounts**

Take a look at Titan (top ) and Galaxy ( bottom ) with similar treads.

Here’s a couple questions for you.

     – Who waits until they get home so they can do some online research for a future purchase?

     – Who knows where their Yellow pages phone book is?

A few years ago these questions would be silly.

“Of course I have to wait to log on to my home desktop pc” – there was no laptop, no ipad, no smart phone.

“My trusty yellow pages are right by my desk” – where else could I search for local businesses?

Well, those days are long gone. You would be amazed how many people find businesses online via their smartphone. Your phone is your computer – instant search – instant information – instant gratification.

The problem for businesses? Your website probably looks pretty funky on a smartphone. It is either squished in, shows a small portion of the webpage or worse, it shows a blank screen if your site uses flash.

That why this week Ken Jones Tires launched it’s mobile site (left picture), www.kenjonestires.mobi. Take a look.

VS

.
.
We want to make it easy for our customers to find us – easy to navigate and easy on the eyes. Quick information local buyers need – hours of operation, directions, a quick link to our main site, www.kenjones.com and even a “tap to call” button – no need to search for a phone number. Keep it simple.

The future is here. Take a look at your website on your iphone, android, blackberry etc. If it isn’t pretty, take steps to remedy the problem. More and more searches are made by phone every day.

Thanks to Krush It! Web Marketing for their help in creating our mobile site.
