This season we’re introducing a new line of tire chain called the “Predator“, made specifically for skid steers, in the following tire sizes:
     – 10×16.5
     – 12×16.5
     – 14×17.5

What makes these chains unique is the combination of a square link cross chain and the superior quality of the actual elements that make up the metal – nickel, chrome and manganese. These elements give the chain extra hardness and maximum strength and durability which is ideal for the demanding applications for skid steers.

.

The square link cross chain delivers 35% more traction than conventional rounded twist link cross chain – it normally last four times longer.

The retail price on the Predator is very reasonable as well, $238 to $318 a pair, given the superior quality of these chains.

Four link spacing on the side chain is standard. If you need 2 link spacing, call 1-800-225-9513 for a quote.

Here’s an example of a fairly popular turf tire size that has become hard to find. Unfortunately for golf courses who tend to use this turf tire size, it’s tough to keep the fairways mowed when their tractor is sitting in the maintenance garage with a flat tire.

A 13.6×28 turf tire, normally readily available, is now costing you money in down time. This tire shortage scenario happens to different tire sizes throughout the year, every year. It’s the nature of the specialty tire business. And it’s the number one reason to find that key supplier who has the large network of contacts. That’s the guy who can find your tire. And sometimes “price” is no longer a factor – downtime expense, headache and frustration can sure dampen your day.

Next time you can’t find a tire from your local dealer, give us a shout. Chances are if it is available in the US, we’ll find it for you!

Have a great week,

Denman made some pretty unique sizes and tread designs so I would imagine Titan saw value in that business, and they will continue to produce those products. We’re excited to see what new products will come down the funnel in the near future.

Below is the press release from www.businesswire.com:

Titan Tire Announces Purchase of Denman Tire Assets

QUINCY, Ill.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–On Wednesday, May 19, 2010, in Federal Bankruptcy Court, Titan Tire Corporation, a subsidiary of Titan International, Inc., was the high bidder for certain Denman Tire assets, including its name, tire specifications, patents, molds, various bladder tooling, customer lists and other items for approximately $4.4 million U.S. Dollars (USD). Denman, a producer of specialty tires, had estimated sales of $75 million USD in 2008. The purchase did not include any machinery, land or buildings.

“This acquisition fulfills some needs in our product range in underground mining and specialty tires. Overall, I believe it was a good investment for Titan, that it will lead to exposure to new customers and drive sales of other Titan product.”

“Closing should take place within the next week. Titan plans to move the assets and should be in production within 30 days and able to fill orders for customers,” said Chairman and CEO Maurice M. Taylor Jr. “This acquisition fulfills some needs in our product range in underground mining and specialty tires. Overall, I believe it was a good investment for Titan, that it will lead to exposure to new customers and drive sales of other Titan product.”

Titan International, Inc. (NYSE: TWI), a holding company, owns subsidiaries that supply wheels, tires and assemblies for off-highway equipment used in agricultural, earthmoving/construction and consumer (including all terrain vehicles) applications.

Questions about mower tires have to be one of the most popular calls we get daily from homeowners and landscapers alike. There are too many sizes, lots of turf tread designs and when you add 2, 4 or 6 ply rated tires, no wonder people need an expert to call!

But there is a reason for the madness…

Mowing equipment manufacturers want a certain tread or size for the machine. it might mean better handling, better ride for the operator or even a better “striping” look for the lawn.

Walker Manufacturing is an example of a company that makes a superior mower and they use unique size tires to help accomplish their goal of offering the perfect mower to their customer.

When it comes to buying replacement tires for these machines, big box stores will not know what you’re talking about. Call the specialty experts….Ken Jones Tires at 1-800-225-9513.

One other tip. In the video it mentions the newer machines come with flat proof mower deck tires. We stock 8×300x4 size as well. Also keep in mind that the single and dual smooth tires (grass catcher) can be custom flat-proofed. When those go flat you’re all done for the day.

Have a great week!

Brian

I think one of the formulas for success in any business is a stable group of vendor partners. Ken Jones Tires has always been loyal to our suppliers and in return we’ve earned their trust and support. We’ve been in the tire flat-proofing business for over 10 years and have only had one supplier, Arnco.

Arnco supplies us with the softest “air-like ride” flat-proofing available called EcoFlex softfill. This product is the only foam fill that should be used in small mower tires and large tractor tires alike.

Here’s a video from Arnco that talks about their company, the future of tire flat-proofing and why they continue to be the top player in their field. It’s quality suppliers like Arnco that keeps Ken Jones Tires on top in the specialty tire field.

Here’s a good video made by www.orangetractortalks.com. It explains about how to ballast your tires and what types of ballast to use.

I’d like to add a few comments.

- We only use calcium chloride and fill the tires to around 70% capacity, which seems to be the industry standard.

- We prefer to use tubes when filling a tubeless tire with calcium chloride. This helps prevent wheel corrosion/rust at the valve stem area.

- You may want to consider foam fill flat-proofing as an option. This will add more ballast weight because the entire cavity of the tire is filled with foam rubber (same weight as water). Plus you get the additional benefit of the tire being 100% flat proof forever! No flats equals zero down time expense.

Have a great week
