Sei que a dúvida gerada é antiga, mas para quem está procurando uma solução pelo Google e cair nessa página igual eu cai, pode ser que ajude:

Se acontecer de não carregar dinamicamente os valores nos campos input ou até mesmo no select, tentem colocar
echo $this->layout=false;
na view chamada apenas para carregar os valores. Estava fazendo uma aplicação onde, ao digitar o CEP, buscava o logradouro, bairro, cidade e estado no BD e preenchia os campos automaticamente. No Firefox e Chrome funcionava perfeitamente. Porém, no IE, só funcionava na versão 8. Se usasse o IE7 não preenchia os campos.
Inseri o “echo this->layout=false;” (sem aspas) nas views usadas para o preenchimento dos campos e, então funcionou perfeitamente!

Exemplificando:
view do form: cadastra.ctp
tinha um campo com id=cep que estava dentro de uma div=ender (na div tinha os campos cep, estado, cidade, logradouro, bairro)
inseri nessa view – “echo $ajax->observeField(‘cep’,array(‘update’=>array(‘ender’),
‘url’=>array(
‘action’=>’preencheEndereco’,'controller’=>’clientes’)));

no controller fiz a busca no BD e “setei” variaveis com os valores do endereco para serem usadas na view

criei a view preenche_endereco
nela inseri javascript para inserir os valores nos campos correspondentes da view ‘cadastra.ctp’ (exemplo, para cidade, utilizei o document.getElementById(‘cidade’).value = “”)
Só que nessa view, inseri no inicio: echo $this->layout=false;

Talvez a explicacao tenha ficado um pouco confusa, mas espero que ao menos ajude a dar um passo na resolucao!

João, muito legal o seu post, mas gostaria que, se possivel, vc fizesse algumas alterações para futuras consultas.

1- Substituir var por public, php5
2- ‘DebugKit.toolbar’ por ‘DebugKit.Toolbar’ , case sensitive.
