Look how much information they are able to fit on a single page. That really is a timesaver when it comes to navigation. I even see a few full articles on there. It looks like they are going for some sort of 3D effect too, by layering content on top of other content.

    Time will tell if the public embraces this new innovative look, but one thing’s for certain, this definitely reflects the spirit of that company.

    • ]]>     As if you needed further proof that the old MuchMusic is dead — as well as being completely subverted by CTVglobemedia’s MTV-obsessed programming — there’s something in these quotes from Much’s new general manager that suggests a disregard for the music brand that helped define the music scene of the 80s and 90s. I think the Toronto Star has it right in its article: MuchMusic shows its age.

    “We will be doing absolutely nothing for the 25th anniversary,” says Brad Schwartz, senior vice-president and general manager of Much MTV Group. “Our core audience (the millennial demographic, with a skew to 18-year-olds) doesn’t care that we’re 25. It’s not news to them, only to the press and people who are no longer our audience.”

    It’s just business, Schwartz asserts, and MuchMusic’s doing good business without its former raison d’être…

    • ]]>     These days I listen almost exclusively to last.fm radio at work which has been quietly suggesting tracks it thinks I would like for the past few months. Today I was rocking out when I finally looked at the name of the band: Phoenix. I looked them up on my chart and without me even knowing their name, they’ve steadily climbed up to one of my top spots. I literally cannot sit still when I hear ‘Armistice’ come on, and by not sitting still I mean I bop in my chair. My chair doesn’t have a lot of spring-action, so it really is harder than you think. Either way, listen to this track and thank me when you break your chair ;)

    • ]]>     Live blogging is a lot more fun with images to match. That’s why we have made the ingestion of images into your event as easy as it comes. No asset manager to complicate things; just some great logic.

    To begin with, if you paste a URL to an image into the writer post box, it will automatically grab that image and post it into your live blog. This works with many standard file formats.

    Image Ingest

    Next, if you are using our Twitter integration to follow users or to scan for keywords, once you post or approve a tweet that contains an image URL like twitpic.com, yfrog.com, or flic.kr, we post the image (not just a link to it). This is a useful way to show the complete story around an exciting event. Imagine, at the end of the day you will have an archive of all the content, comments, tweets and images all in one place.

    If you were an enterprise client, all this would be wrapped inside a fully branded site where all the content could be found by search engines and you could monetize the page views. Trying doing that on Twitter or with other live blogging competitive tools!

    Image Ingest

    If that’s still not enough, why not link a Flickr account to your live event? It’s simple to do! Under the “Post to this Event” you will find the Flickr setup. Just choose the account you want to monitor (make sure you have permission though cuz it’s not cool to steal someone’s photo stream) and presto, your Flickr photos will start streaming into your live blog. It splits our default two column writer interface into four columns with your live blog on the left, followed by an entire column for your comments in moderation, followed by an entire column of twitter search results, followed by the usual sidebar on the right. You can view up to 1000 comments in moderation and tweets coming in in real-time. That’s a huge amount of information just waiting to be added to your live blog instantly.

    Access the new Advanced Moderator Screen by clicking “Moderator View” in the “Advanced View” section in the side bar.

But I think it’s a sure sign that I need to stop building software and get out of the house when my entertainment budget has been $58 over the last 3 months. And yes, that is after correctly categorizing everything. However, I do find riding a horse twice a week entertaining, and that is one of those bigger pies, so maybe it’s not so bad after all ;)

One of the three owners, David, has to be the biggest asshat I’ve ever seen on ‘Kitchen Nightmares.’ I find, in general, the American version of the show is edited to show more drama than the UK version, but I don’t think it was clever editing in this case. It was hilarious to watch David on-camera talk about how much he hates the new food, then tell Ramsay he thinks it’s great. I was glad to hear they went out of business shortly after the show aired.
