Those who know me know that I’m not one to take vacations. In fact, just yesterday, I put in a 20-hour workday. Don’t get me wrong– I absolutely love my job, which is a large reason why I work so much. But I am not good at stepping away from my computer and phone and just being PRESENT. This past month, I said goodbye to my school, my friends, my boyfriend, and my home, in addition to photographing over 30 sessions in two weeks. After all of that, I am desperately in need of some time away. Time that I spend taking pictures just for me. Time without my phone glued to my face. Time without excessive Facebook & inbox-checking. Time to recharge MYSELF, not just my electronic devices.

So call me extreme, but I’m flying to Australia with a good friend of mine for two weeks. I’m stoked to expand my world and replenish my creativity.

I know I’ll return with lots to share. In the meantime, I appreciate your patience, as I’ll only be checking my email briefly every few days. I will be back in the country on June 9th, so you can expect a response from me shortly after that.

PS: Don’t worry, there will be reading material while I’m gone– all of my recent photo sessions are set to auto-blog over the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned for lots of new photos!

I would never have believed that this military family has lived all over the country if they hadn’t told me…to me, they seem like true Texans (complete with cowboy hats and a pickup truck!) As their son gets ready to head to college next year, I’m so glad that they’ll have these photos to remember their time together as a happy family of four.

Just realized that I neglected to blog this short & sweet session from my time in San Antonio over spring break! These are two of the happiest kids I’ve ever met. When I was little, my aunt used to tell me that my “giggle box” was unstoppable…and I think that’s definitely true for these two ;) Long after we stopped taking photos, they kept running and laughing. Nothing could bring them down…loved their spirit!!!

I love photographing first birthday parties—tons of cute kids and decorations everywhere—but this one was especially fun because it was my first Korean birthday party. Baby Yena got all decked out her traditional Korean outfit before guests arrived…how beautiful does she look?!

I also loved the game that took place later on in the party. Her parents laid out a bunch of different objects representing potential careers. Supposedly, the one that Yena crawled would represent her future path. Not only did she choose the stethoscope (to the hilarious sighs of everyone in the room), but in the second round, she also chose a medical object—a thermometer! If that doesn’t seal her fortunate future, I don’t know what does! ;)
