Police in Bridgeport, Connecticut cancel a dance at the Ritz ballroom featuring Fats Domino. Authorities say the cancellation is because they discovered that "Rock and Roll dances might be featured" and justify their action by citing "a recent near riot at the New Haven Arena" where Rock 'n' Roll dances were held.

1958

Jerry Lee Lewis arrives at London's Heathrow Airport to begin his first British tour, along with his new bride, 14 year old third cousin, Myra. Although advised not to mention it, Lewis answers all questions about his private life, truthfully. The public's shock over Lewis' marriage marks the start of a controversy which eventually ruins his career.The London Morning Star runs an editorial calling Lewis "an undesirable alien" and calls for his deportation, leading to his British tour being cancelled after just 3 of the scheduled 37 performances

1965

The Beatles attained their eighth Billboard number one hit with "Ticket To Ride", on which Paul McCartney, not George Harrison, played lead guitar.

I have been watching The Big Bang Theory since it first came on with a pilot episode many years ago. Over the years they have really changed the characters a lot and added some really great cast members. I recently watched an episode that was mostly about the relationship between Penny and Amy Farah Fowler. For the most part I think that Penny just puts up with Amy Farah Fowler and does not actually enjoy her company but sometimes you can see where she accidentally starts to like hanging out with her. In this episode Amy decides to commission an artist to paint a portrait of Penny and Amy together looking like BFFs. Amy surprises Penny with the enormous canvas and Penny has no idea where to put the canvas in her cramped apartment. For one thing is is huge and the other is that it is hideous. RCA Victor introduces the 45 rpm single record, which had been in development since 1940. The 7 inch disc was designed to compete with the 33 1/3 LP introduced by Columbia a year earlier. Both formats offered better fidelity and longer playing time than the 78 rpm platter that was currently in use. Advertisements for new record players boasted that with 45 RPM records, the listener could hear up to ten records with speedy, silent, hardly noticeable changes

Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Obie Wheeler, Carl Perkins and Glen Douglas open a tour of the South in Little Rock, Arkansas

Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode" is released. It would enter the Billboard charts six weeks later and rise to number 8 on the Hot 100 and number two on the R&B chart. The song's original lyrics referred to Johnny as a "colored boy", but Berry later acknowledged that he changed it to "country boy" to ensure radio play

I was watching direct tv stamford, and came upon a program about the singing group The Cowsills. They were a pop group from the late sixties and early seventies. One of their biggest hits was The Rain, the Park, and Everything. Then they had another hit called Hair that I remember more than the other. It was a family group that started out with some brothers who later added one sister, and then added their mom. I can imagine how it would be with siblings in a group, but to add you mom is pretty weird. But as in most family groups, their harmonizing vocals were incredible. The television show called The Partridge Family was based entirely on The Cowsills, even down to the mom participating in the group. The documentary that I was watching explained that when the producers were trying to cast the Partridge Family parts, they originally wanted to use all the members of the Cowsills group except for one person. They did not want to use their real mother. When asked why they did not end up using The Cowsills, the producers just said that they were looking for actors to play the parts, and The Cowsills were not actors. It was found out later that the real reason was they didn’t want the real mom. So the rest of the family did not want to do the show if they were not going to use their mother. The Partridge Family then became a show about a family singing group that was really a bunch of actors. I think it is amazing sometimes how television programs come together.

For those of you that come to this page often, well you know that my wife is Filipino and that we plan to have several businesses in the Philippines in the near future. One of the stepping-stones to this little venture is that I do not speak her native language and let’s face it; she can’t be around all of the time and we'll need help with document translation.

So in order to get over this obstacle, we plan to get help from a document translation service, because lord knows that we are going to need all of the help that we can get. So we have already started in our search for a document translation agency that can help us with our needs, but at a price that we can afford, after all we will just be starting out in these businesses and we will be as thrifty as we can possibly be without giving up any of the quality service that we want to provide.

So, once we get this step finished then it will be on to the next step. We surely are excited about our future and excited about introducing our three month old son to his second country home. so wish us luck friends, thanks!

Actor Jackie Gleason would say "He can't last, I tell you flatly, he can't last," but after the initial show, Presley's contract was extended to a total of six appearances.

1965

The Who perform their debut hit, "I Can't Explain" on the UK music show Ready, Steady, Go!. To project the desired image, the hand-picked audience consists only of teens dressed in the current Mod fashion.

1966

Brian Poole quit The Tremeloes for a solo career. The move didn't work out for him as he would only achieve moderate success, but the rest of the band would score two big hits with "Here Comes My Baby" and "Silence is Golden".

There are only so many Internet Service Providers in my area and my mom doesn’t seem to think she needs one. She’s all about staying ‘off the grid’ as she calls it which to me means she practically lives in a tree and doesn’t pay income taxes (she does, I make her.) I just don’t understand why mom doesn’t seem to get that she’s got to stay connected somehow – we need to learn how to communicate in a way that doesn’t include a carrier pigeon or a tin can. I love that there are so many ways to live your life but mom’s just so ridiculous when it comes to how crazy she is. I just don’t understand why she’s so adamant about making sure everything’s difficult and hard for anyone to get through to. I just don’t get it…what in the world is she thinking making me chase her around the globe trying to get in touch and see if she’s alright – that’s my prerogative as a daughter.

Buddy Holly was in the recording studio for the last time. He laid down tracks for "Slippin' and Slidin'", "Wait 'Til the Sun Shines Nellie", "Love Is Strange", "Dearest" and "Smokey Joe's Café". Alone with an acoustic guitar and tape recorder in his New York City apartment, he would make his final recordings, including "Peggy Sue Got Married", "Crying, Waiting, Hoping", "That's What They Say", "What To Do", "Learning The Game" and "That Makes It Tough". The recordings would be overdubbed posthumously and released by Coral Records.

1960

On his 25th birthday, Sam Cooke switched record labels from Keen Records to RCA, even though he had a string of hits with Keen that included "You Send Me", "Only Sixteen", "Everybody Likes to Cha Cha Cha" and "Wonderful World". The switch was beneficial to all as Sam continued to crank out the chart busters until his death in 1964.

1966

Frank Sinatra's daughter Nancy enters the Hot 100 for the second time with what will be her biggest hit, "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'". The song would later go to number one for one week and spend three and a half months on the chart.

Gosh I love living here. When I moved to Portland it was because of the music scene and since my band thing didn’t work out I never considered moving once. I actually now own a co-op farm that supplies root vegetables to many of the surrounding restaurants – did you know Portland’s got one of the most up and coming food scenes in the whole country? I love being able to work all day and go to bed tired and there are so many technological resources like wireless internet Portlandand smartphones that make this business easier than ever before. My favorite part of the job is working at farmers markets on the weekends and getting to talk to my individual customers. There’s nothing about this job that I would change and you know, I think that’s the goal for everyone at the end of the day. I can’t believe I’m a farmer and that I get to work with the land for a living but you never know how life’s going to turn out!

Chuck Berry is arrested for transporting a minor across a state line for an immoral purpose. Berry claims he was only giving a young lady a ride to her job as a hat-check girl at his St. Louis nightclub. Unbeknown to Berry, 14 year old Janice Norine was working as a prostitute. Although he will be convicted and given a five year sentence, the charges are eventually dropped after the judge allegedly made racist remarks.

1964

Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys suffered a breakdown while on a flight from Los Angeles to Houston. Wilson decided to retire from performing live, even though their "Beach Boys Concert" album was number 1 on the LP chart at the time. Glen Campbell became a temporary replacement before Bruce Johnston joined the group.

1968

Apple Records hosts a party for employees' children with John Lennon and Yoko Ono acting as Santa and Mrs. Claus.

1961

The Beach Boys first recording, "Surfin'", is released on Candis Records, a small L.A. based company. The song was written by Brian Wilson and his cousin Mike Love and recorded with Brian's brothers, Carl and Dennis and their friend Alan Jardine. Carl played acoustic guitar, Al played double bass and Brian kept time on a garbage can.

1962

Alan Freed testifies at his payola trial in New York that he received $2,000 in 1958 from Cognat Distributors for a promise to play their records on his New York radio show. He also accepted a similar deal from Superior Records for $700. He pleads guilty and is fined $300 and given six months probation. Dick Clark was also questioned, but is cleared of all charges.

1968

Graham Nash left The Hollies to team up with ex-Byrds guitarist, David Crosby and ex-Buffalo Springfield member, Stephen Stills. The trio would release their debut album in the summer of '69.
