How to Create Shutdown Shortcut for Windows 8 PC

Windows 8 is currently the latest Windows OS. Since the inception of Windows 8, users have been searching for easy means to get acquainted with the OS.

In order to make Windows 8 easier for users, I have written some articles like: Windows 8 Keyboard Shortcuts, Top 5 Free Antivirus Program for Windows 8, Windows 8 for Dummies PDF E-book, and so on.

Today, I want to share how any Windows 8 users can easily create a shortcut on their desktop to shut down their PC, instead of the normal shutdown process which is done by moving the mouse to the bottom right corner of the computer, to bring up charm box. After which they will be required to select the setting charm to access the power option to finally shutdown.

In previous versions of windows, only two steps will be taken to shut down your PC, but in Windows 8, you will go through 4 steps. However, instead of going through those normal 4 steps to shut down your PC, you can create a simple shortcut on your desktop to make your Windows 8 PC shutdown process to be easier.

Steps to Create a Shutdown Shortcut on Windows 8 Desktop

1. Click desktop tab on the start screen

2. Right click anywhere on the desktop, select New >> Shortcut

3. A dialogue box will appear. Type the following characters into the box: shutdown/s/t 0 or use shutdown -s -f -t 0 (as seen in the image below)

4. Click next after step 3. You can leave shortcut name as shutdown or you can change to something else like Power off PC.

You now have a shutdown shortcut on you Windows 8 PC. Whenever you click on the shortcut, you PC will immediately shutdown.

If you don’t like the shortcut icon, you can easily change it to one of the default icons on your PC or use a custom one. To change the icon, simply right click on the shortcut, select properties, select change icon and then choose the icon the suit you most.

To make your PC shutdown process one click, you can also pin the shutdown shortcut to start by right clicking on it to select the pin to start option.

This is to inform those who participated in the 2013/2014 JAMB UTME on the 27th of April, 2013 that the 2013 UTME results have been released by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Examination Board (JAMB).

According to the statistics released by the registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Examination Board (JAMB):

- A total of 1,629,102 candidates applied to sit for the Paper Pencil Test (PPT)
- 15,008 candidates applied for the Dual Based Test
- 1,644,110 is the total number that sat for the exam.
- 10 candidates scored 300 marks and above.
- 127,017 candidates scored between 1-159 marks
- 40,692 candidates'' results were invalid due to either multiple shading or no shading at all.
- 40 centres would be screened to ascertain their culpability
- 47,974 candidates were absent.

Regarding the checking of the 2013 UTME results, candidates are not required to pay any fee, as the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Examination Board (JAMB) has promised to allow every candidates that participated in the exam to access the 2013 UTME result checking portal for free without any charges involved.

JAMB will only allow you to access your result five times, after which you would be required to purchase the JAMB result checker scratch card to access your result again. So it is advisable to print your result immediately you check it.

Enable SMS Notifications on Suspicious Google Login Activity

Google has so many wonderful products and services which majority of internet users participates therein. Google products and services are numerous. Some of their products and services include searching the internet, email, backing up of data, social media, website/blog monetization, advertising, Android and et al. To use any Google product or services, a Gmail account would be required as a source of ID.

What will happen to all the accounts you’ve created under your Gmail account, if peradventure your Gmail account get hacked? The outcome could be disastrous, as your access to the files you’ve backed up on Google, you email inbox and other Google products or services you’ve opted for would have been blocked.

Guest blogging is the art of writing quality content for another blog with a link back to your site.

I first discovered the power of guest blogging three years ago, and since then, I've utilized it to build quality backlinks to my blog. Of course, things weren't rosy at first. My writing wasn't as polished as it is now and I was with my mistakes.

In fact, at the beginning, I tried all sorts of traffic generation but none seem to bring the results I wanted; not until I read an article about guest blogging on an authority blog (I think it was YoungPrePro.com) and since then, I've been doing it full time.

If you're not ready to put in your best guest posting, then forget about being popular or becoming a famous figure because it won't happen!

If you study the lives of successful guest bloggers like; Bamidele Oni, Michael Chibuzor, Neil Patel, Carol Tice, and Tom Ewer you'd observe that they are very consistent at the things they do. No wonder they could go so far in their blogging career.

You should imitate these people if you want to go far.

1. Be Smart--don't work hard

When I first started as a real estate blogger, I believed that the key to building a successful online business was by working hard but I was wrong.

You need to understand that hard work isn't a necessity to building a profitable and successful online business. If it was, why are bricklayers or, laborers not the richest in the world today?

I know you're with your own beliefs but I don't care what you believe.

Let me tell you something you don't know:

Since last year July until date, I've written over 300 guest posts for myself and clients (of which I wrote about 100 in less than 4 months)!

Whereas I know a friend (a blogger) who only works 5 hours daily and bangs at least, 6 figures monthly writing guest posts. To crown it all, he only has less than 30 guest posts on authority blogs.

His guest posts are on reputable blogs like; Forbes, Huffingtonpost, Problogger, and Copyblogger.

Here's one thing you must know:

Guest blogging is not about the numbers, it's about quality.

5 guest posts on PR4-5 blogs is far better in value than 10 or 15 guest posts on PR1 or 3 blogs.

In order to get quality results from your guest posts, you have to target reputable blogs in your niche. Don't go for ''fluffy'' blogs; go for the best (blogs with at least, a PR of 2,3, or 4).

Pro tip: if you don't know how to go about guest posting, hire a professional guest blogger to write quality guest posts for your firm every month.

Your firm needs to churn out quality guest posts on a daily basis to build backlinks, drive traffic, and convert more leads.

2. Promotion comes first

Don't churn out guest posts and expect other bloggers to promote it for you. No, don't do that. Instead, be the first to share it across social media networks.

I was able to drive over, 300 visitors to my blog overnight through a guest post on Socialmediatoday because I promoted it.

How to Disable Google Plus Email and SMS Notifications

Google Plus is a social networking site which gives it users the abilities to create circles of friends, hang out via group video chat with your circles, find online articles based on your interests, and more. By default, you get notified by email or SMS or both whenever any action involving you is taken on Google Plus.

Although, receiving notifications via email is a good way of driving engagement on the Google Plus social network, but at the same time it’s annoying to some people. I remember the day I commented on a Google Plus page’s post before I went to bed. When I woke up the second day, 100’s of new email & SMS notifications poured in. I immediately disable the feature on my account as it doesn’t allow me to navigate through my inbox conveniently. You can now easily replace character(s) with another. To replace words on Windows PC, use Ctrl+Shift+R, while MAC users should use Command+shift+R. A text field will appear on the HTML editor page where you can type the character(s) you want to replace with another. Press enter on your keyboard; another box will appear displaying “with” text. So type the character you want to replace with the former one you typed earlier and then press enter again to make the change.

8. Inbuilt Search Tool

A search tool has been imbedded into the Blogger new template Editor. To make use of this feature, simply press Ctrl+F on your keyboard. A small box will show on the top-right side of the HTML editor.

Martin Missfeld Explains How Google Glass Works [Infographic]

No one knows much about the Google Glass, i.e. its final speculations and how it works. Artist Martin Missfeld has created an infographic that explains how Glass's prism and projector system work.

As illustrated by the infographic, Google Glass is comprised by some of the hardware that would usually make up a smartphone, including a microphone, camera, battery, speakers and the CPU, in addition to a mini projector. Images from the mini projectors, which are cleverly hidden next to each of the lenses, are bounced off the prism straight into the user’s retina. This allows the user to see the world around them naturally, where “layers” of information can be displayed on top of it. As one would expect, the position of this augmented reality layer can be changed by simply repositioning the glasses.

One thing is for sure: We can't wait to see curious geeks tear open Glass for everyone to see when it comes out later this year for "less than $1,500."

To access the Airtel “WhatsApp” bundle, customers are to dial *948# at N100/month to enjoy the service exclusively on Airtel platform.

Speaking on the new offer, Olu Akanmu, the Chief Marketing Officer of Airtel Nigeria, described the “WhatsApp” data bundle service as the first of its kind in the country. He said that it would provide great a channel to connect Nigerian youths to their friends with unlimited access.

According to him, the new package, which is available to all prepaid subscribers, attracts no deductions from the user's data bundle or airtime balance.

“Coming at a time when we are about to start Mobile Number Portability in Nigeria, and with our robust 3.75g broadband strength spread over 180 cities across the country, our customers have just been handed another winner in our collection of bespoke data services through WhatsApp. We shall continue to push harder to realize our vision of becoming the most loved brand in the daily lives of Nigerians”.

Customers who activate data bundles of 200MB or more can also enjoy unlimited access to “WhatsApp” without having to pay for the value-added service.

Clean Up Your Facebook Profile with SimpleWash

Facebook is the largest social site with billions of users. In my recent publications, I published a post on how Facebook users can Identify Fake Facebook Account. So today, I want to share another post on how Facebook users can actually scrubs their profile/timeline for potentially inappropriate word or phrases using a web application known as SimpleWash.

SimpleWash Facebook application was developed by three Kent State University undergraduates to help Facebook users clean up their profile of any incriminating content to give users a “fresh face”.

SimpleWash web app has been developed in such a way that users can search their profile of any vulgar and embarrassing contents or distasteful terms. Users can also use their own words, and the returned results are displayed in categories such as "links that you have liked" or comments.
