New York Wedding Photography | Glen Island Harbor Club | Candy and Jeff

Surrounded by pops of yellow and touches of lace, Candy married her best friend, Jeff, at the Glen Island Harbor Club in New Rochelle, New York. Right outside the buzz of Manhattan, Glen Island recreates the charm and beauty of an old English seaside town. Candy was stunning as she walked through the grounds, the castle-esque ruins as her backdrop. The wedding was elegant in every way, a reflection of Candy and Jeff themselves. … Actually, we’re kinda kidding about that last part. Candy and Jeff are actually quite goofy and by nature are rather free-spirited and fun-loving. There were a couple times here and there that they had to struggle to keep a straight face. But when they had to, they definitely pulled it off quite well! :D Candy and Jeff exchanged vows overlooking the glistening Long Island Sound and shared their first kiss as husband and wife while the sun streamed in behind them. Then turning to the guests, they let out their characteristic cheer and laugh. Celebrations began immediately and the rest of the night was in no shortage of laughter. Congratulations, Candy and Jeff!

Berkeley Engagement Session Photography | Christine and Lauren

The college campus, for some, is a place to find yourself. For Christine and Lauren, that’s where they found each other. In between sitting for their MCAT classes in Berkeley, Christine and Lauren met and developed a friendship that would later turn into a lasting love. We went with them around the campus where they enjoyed their walks and lunch breaks. They also ended up leading us to a spot — their special spot — where they’ve shared countless picnic lunches and endless belly-aching laughs. We look forward to being their wedding photographers, and wish Lauren and Christine the very best as they start this new adventure together!

The wedding’s gorgeous florals and vibrant colors complemented the draping trees and a lush green lawn of their venue. Hanh and Vinh bring the party with them wherever they go. And true to their personalities, their wedding day was full of energy and a lot of good fun.

Each groomsman was given a personalized hip flask engraved with their names!

Hanh’s heartfelt card immediately brought tears to his eyes.

These dresses were gorgeous!

We loved these moss covered letters for Hanh and Vinh at the altar.

Yoda! Just as he did for their engagement session, he also played an important role on their wedding day.

Instead of a sign in book, guests left well wishes for Hanh and Vinh on river rocks. How creative! :)

Guests witnessed all the love and comedy we enjoy about movies at this wedding, from Elaine and Howard’s heartfelt vows to the hilarious game of singles musical chairs. The Cinnabar Hills Golf Course is the perfect venue for a wedding with its elegant architectural details and surrounding rolling hills. Majestic trees sprinkled throughout the property create those quiet spots essential to any romantic movie where a man can steal his love away for a sweet moment alone together.

Shuli and Miguel started their lives together on a gorgeous afternoon at the Monterey Memory Garden. The Memory Garden is a hidden gem along the shores of the Monterey Bay. You’ll come across Spanish-style white walls tucked amongst the buildings before walking through a beautiful arch followed by a vine-covered wood trellis into the Memory Garden. Upon entering the garden, you’re transported to a cozy combination of romance and fantasy. The Memory Garden was the perfect venue for Shuli and Miguel’s storybook-themed wedding. Every detail of their wedding was carefully drawn from the years of their growing relationship and reading dates. Surrounded by the intimate cover of trees and vines, Shuli and Miguel brought all the guests to tears as they professed their vows to each other. We wish the new couple all the best!

This was truly a DIY wedding, with their community of friends greatly assisting with the inspiration, design, and setup.

Each bridesmaid wore a yellow dress of her choice accented with vintage-style jewelry, handmade by the bride herself.

Sophia and Josh were married at one of the more wonderfully eclectic venues we’ve shot at. SmogShoppe used to be a smog-check center, but has since been transformed into this whimsical event space with vertical gardens, vintage details, and desert succulents. Many of the details were DIY, with Sophia having made her own cards, jewelry, and favors, among other things. The wedding itself was undeniably a total blast, and it was obvious that these two absolutely love each other. It was a beautiful day, and we’re honored to have been their wedding photographers.

Do you remember the supercute Calvin and Hobbes inspired engagement session we posted up a while ago? Well, here is the wedding follow up to that! Stephanie and Jonathan did an amazing job planning out their wedding day, and it showed in personalized touches from beginning to end. Calvin and Hobbes is a surprisingly rich canvas to draw upon for a wedding day, and Steph and Jon definitely made good use of their theme without going overboard. The ring bearer was dressed as Calvin, select strips from the comic were incorporated into the table settings, the cake toppers were hand-painted wooden figures of Calvin and Hobbes, dinosaurs made an appearance … Their day was full of laughter and celebration, with friends and family coming from around the world!

Vi and her sisters have planned and decorate countless celebrations for their family. We love how they coordinated everything.

For his wedding gift, Vi personalized cufflinks with Thinh’s favorite number 10 on the outside. Not a dry eye was in sight when Thinh
discovered the pictures of his late brother and father inside the cufflinks.

When Thinh stepped outside his room, the groomsmen and ring bearers greeted him with this …

Even the hotel they got ready at matched their color scheme!

The priest invited all the children at the ceremony to join him in blessing the couple.

We told the bridesmaids to put their umbrellas in front of them, and look what the flower girl did! She was so cute!

The maid of honor and best man were married and toasted the bride and groom together.

The groom’s niece gave an impromptu performance of Taylor Swift’s “Love Story”. Everyone in the room was on their feet cheering her on.

This might be one of our favorite weddings of the year so far! Melissa and Eric were married at the Paramount Country Club, nestled in the magnificent woodland hills right outside of New York City. Mel is a fashion designer, and Eric himself has impeccable tastes, so as you can imagine, everything about their day was beautiful!

It was especially an honor to photograph this wedding because Mel has been following our work for the past 4 years. And before Eric asked her out, she already knew she wanted us to shoot her big day. It was such an immense privilege (and a bit of pressure! haha) to be their wedding photographer. It definitely helped that Eric is a rather chill, easy-going guy. And Mel just has that infectious, bubbly personality that brightens up any room she’s in. Lovely! :)

We recently had the honor of photographing Alicia and Doan’s wedding in Wichita, Kansas.

Despite being a long day with 100 degree temperatures, Alicia and Doan’s wedding turned out spectacularly! It started off with a traditional tea ceremony, followed by a western ceremony at the Church of the Magdalen. The night ended at Abode Venue, with the design and decorations done beautifully by friends and family.

What made this wedding even more special for me personally was a conversation I had with Hien back in 2011. I remember telling him that even with all the places on our travel schedule, it’s highly unlikely that we’d be hired to do a wedding in the Midwest. And then less than a year later, we end up flying right smack into the middle of the country! Thank you so much to Alicia and Doan and their family for showing such wonderful midwestern hospitality!

All Saints Catholic Church wedding photographer | Bay Area | Lily and Thomas

For Lily and Thomas’ wedding, they wanted to capture more of a classic, Old World feel. Although European-style architecture is quite limited in the Bay Area, they managed to find All Saints Church in Hayward, with its tall dome ceiling and the huge pillars. Lily also chose a beautiful Spanish mantilla-style veil, with use of lace in her dress and bouquet. For the photoshoot, we went to Villa Montalvo, chosen for its Italian Mediterranean style layout. And while the reception had to take place in a Chinese restaurant, they went with an exquisite ornate cake from Margaret’s French Bakery. What a beautiful day!

Will you marry me ….

Some moments last no more than a minute, but will mark an amazing new chapter of life.

When Vinny asked for his girlfriend’s hand in marriage, he wanted that minute to be captured. He just had two requests: for the Golden Gate Bridge to be in the background, and that Kaitlyn would not notice us until after he had proposed. There were definitely a few minor challenges: identifying them since we had never met before, avoiding the beachgoers around the area, the fog obscuring the bridge, following them down the beach without being noticed, having a signal to know when he’s about to pop the question … But in the end, it all went off without a hitch.

The surprise in her face was priceless, and the way they kissed after she said yes was just beautiful! In an era of extravagant marriage proposals, sometimes you can’t do better than simple and sweet. :)

Elaine and Howard were originally hoping to incorporate cherry blossoms into their engagement session. But after the shoot had to be rescheduled by a couple months and they sent a new wish list that included lovely things like open fields & flowers & trees & greenery & unique doors & ivy covered walls … we thought, Perfect! Right up our alley. :D

So for their session, we headed up to Napa Valley. Like most couples, they were a little nervous initially. But we think they did fabulously! We look forward to doing their wedding photography next month. :)

This is one wedding we’ve been quite excited to post for several weeks now! Amy and Steve had a nautical themed wedding, complete with life saver pins for the bridal party, light house pins for the moms and dad, nautical balls, and handmade sailboat centerpieces! And as they are big fans of TOMS, the entire wedding party also wore TOMS shoes — the girls even had their own individualized shoes.

With family and friends all around, it was definitely a day to be remembered. We hope that even in these picturers, you can “hear” the laughter and liveliness and fun.

Here’s one incredibly fun, playful, and lively couple… Angela and Eugene are big fans of How I Met Your Mother, and wanted to incorporate elements of the show into their session. Since it wasn’t quite feasible to head over to New York to shoot in a bar, they decided to pull in a couple details. Fans of HIMYM should be able to pick out the allusions in these pictures. =P

Lunchboxes have special meaning for these two. When they first met at a birthday party for a mutual friend, Angela had brought a bag of games and lunchbox full of cards. Eugene, being fond of games himself, was immensely impressed!

This has got to be the most RANDOM picture I’ve ever taken for an engagement session. Props to Angela and Eugene for braving the freezing cold! I was bundled up in a jacket and hoodie, and even that wasn’t warm enough for me!
