Pretty amazing stuff. It also happened to be Mother's day weekend - and since my mom is a fan of Kelly's music, I recorded a few video's hoping to share the show. Wow! Since oil prices are set globally, I thought it must mean Congress is moving to help America reduce the role of oil in our economy in the long-term while figuring out how to get people to work without buying as much oil in the near-term.</p> <p>But I was dead wrong. Congress is actually voting to do none-of-the-above while taking further steps to prolong our pain at the pump.</p> <p>Instead of addressing high gas prices head-on, Congress is <a href="http://www.good.is/post/chart-even-more-proof-we-can-t-drill-our-way-to-lower-gas-prices/" target="_blank">pedalling spin</a> about the cause of our pain, <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/roomfordebate/2011/03/08/whats-behind-the-spike-in-oil-prices/the-price-were-willing-to-pay-for-oil" target="_blank">ignoring the role of Markets in setting prices</a>. Instead of relieving pain at the pump, they're pushing false solutions (<a href="http://www.good.is/post/chart-even-more-proof-we-can-t-drill-our-way-to-lower-gas-prices/" target="_blank">domestic production won't affect gas price</a>). And by further committing our economy to dependance on oil, they're locking us into paying $1,000,000,000 per day in foreign oil imports - nearly half of the US trade deficit - for the foreseeable future. Happy Friday America!</p> <p>The only honest thing about this press release title is the "Create Jobs" part - this congress is proving the need for a lot more climate and energy activists' help them understand how to get us out of this mess.
