Guess Who's Collaborating Now?

Have you been keeping count of all of fashion's designer collaborations this year? Missoni for Target; Versace for H&M; Karl Lagerfeld for Fossil. What? You read right. Karl Lagerfeld is teaming up with Fossil to create an exclusive line of men's and women's watches that will be designed, developed, and distributed under the Karl Lagerfeld label.

Announcement of the collaboration was made Wednesday, and Vice Chairman of Fossil, Mark Quick, said of the company's thoughts on the venture, "We look forward to working with Karl Lagerfeld. It is a pleasure to work with such an inspiring fashion visionary."

Inspiring indeed, but also one of the most industrious professionals in the fashion industry, head designing and creatively directing Chanel, Fendi, and his own self-titled label, in addition to a slew of other freelance ventures. One thing is for sure though, Karl Lagerfeld's design label only works with the best explaining, "It is essential for us to work with the best license partners in each segment - that is why we are happy to partner up with Fossil" - President, Pier Paolo Righi.

Unfortunately the first collection of watches won't officially debut until spring 2013, but there are sure to be an ample amount of look book images of the timepiece collection littering the internet in the months preceding the launch. And we can't wait so see what the brands come up with.

Fossil typically has a very rustic vintage, almost indie vibe. While anyone who's followed Chanel's runway in the past three decades knows what Karl Lagerfeld is about - eye catching high fashion. So it's anyone's guess what they have in store. Til then, bide your time by checking out Joonbug's article on the "Five Watch Styles Every Girl Needs," detailing the major watch styles you can choose your time-keeping wrist piece from while you wait for Karl's!

Carrie On

Ever pick out an item off the rack at your favorite store and wonder how it was made? Does that curiosity ever lead you to inquire about the impact the item might have had on the environment where it was produced? Enter the green machine that is the creative mind of sustainable fashion designer Carrie Perry. The California born breakout designer who recently launched her self titled brand at the 2012 Nolcha Fashion Week in September, draws her creativity from 60s high fashion, traveling circuses, as well as iconic she-ros such as Norma Shearer and Joan Crawford. Perry’s most recent collection features tailored garments with warm tones that present the designer’s retro style.

Sourcing Sustainability

From production to manufacture Perry’s designs make a statement without making a negative impact on the environment. Aside from organic materials such as wool and cotton more commonly used in today's fashions, Perry also uses recycled polyester manufactured in New Jersey and other materials when creating her designs. In fact most of the materials used in Carrie Perry Collections are manufactured in New Jersey, California, and other areas within the United States. All garments are ethically produced in New York City, NY. In efforts to conserve energy and water the warm tones found in Carrie Perry garments are achieved through water based inks and digital printing. All of which are produced in San Fransisco.

Why We Love Carrie Perry

Currently Carrie Perry has been on the road promoting her collection in a traveling trunk show. Some of the dazzling dresses in this collection retail for a fashionista friendly $99! Now, that's "star-style" that everyone can enjoy. It's really amazing that more and more fashion labels are offering wonderful, flattering, high-style dresses for a fair-style price. See you around town, ladies!

Blaque Label is a line of affordable ready-to-wear fashions with a upscale, chic feel. The designer of the brand is Vanessa Lee of Los Angeles. She came up with the concept after returning from a trip to Paris, where she was overcome by the alluring way in which Parisian women dressed. Lee decided that American women deserved to wear runway fashions without paying huge designer prices, hence her creation of this affordable, contemporary clothing line. The Blaque label name was derived from the idea that fashions that sported black labels were often the most expensive and most appealing. Blaque Label clothes were designed with a chic contemporary feel, and most designs can be worn from day to night.

Whatever the case may be, it’s hard to be motivated to look your best when you’re feeling less than fabulous. Let’s face it, as much as we’d love to crawl back into the hole that we’ve just come out of, that’s never the most practical option. So Ladies, follow these tips and we guarantee we’ll have you looking bright-eyed, bushy-tailed, and ready to face the day in no time!

Primer

Tired, dehydrated skin looks....well, tired and dehydrated. Give dull skin a much needed glow by utilizing a hydrating primer to instantly treat any imperfections, and breath life back into a lackluster complexion.

We suggest you try:

L’Oreal Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Base

Dior Skinflash Radiance Boosting Primer

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer

Concealer/Highlighter

Next, try this power combination, it’s like espresso for the face! You’ll look wide awake even if you’re running on empty. Dab concealer under your eyes to hide any tell-tale dark circles or bags. Finish with a bit of highlighter in the inners corners of the eyes to awaken your entire face.

We suggest you try:

Smashbox Camera Ready Concealer

YSL Touche Eclat Illuminator

Dry Shampoo

No time (or energy) to wash your hair? Use a little dry shampoo to refresh your locks, banish excess oil and add volume. Whether you throw your hair back into a high ponytail, or quickly take a curling iron to a few random sections, (the more haphazard, the better) voila - the effect is instant glamour girl!

We suggest you try:

Rene Furterer Naturia Dry Shampoo

Tresemme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo

Sunglasses

This one needs no explanation! A tried-and-true method, simply throw on a pair of oversized shades and you’ll forget all about that pounding headache and those 2am texts you sent! (Remember - there’s never anything a little aspirin and the delete button can't fix!)

Boots+Leggings+Tunic

This trifecta for effortlessly chic dressing never fails! Not only will you look great, but you’ll be oh-so-comfortable too! Throwing together a killer outfit using these three elements couldn’t be simpler and more versatile!

Victoria Beckham, model Chanel Iman, and Kate Moss each demonstrating different ways to rock this look!

Five Watch Styles Every Girl Needs

Oh the beloved watch, a true necessity to every woman’s wardrobe. Not until you rock a watch with your everyday look can you truly appreciate the luxury of wearing one. Yes, they are a device of convenience, but they are much more than just a piece of machinery. Today, watches have acquired a new purpose, that is to consummate your look. In adoration of the watch, us editor’s here at Joonbug have provided you with the five most tasteful types of watches.

The Skeleton Watch

These watches are quite fetching. Captivate the attention of onlookers with this must have accessory. The skeleton face exposes all of the inner workings of the watch, so that you can see what’s going on inside the watch. Pretty awesome.

The Boyfriend Watch

Comfy and adorable, we’ll take it! Inspired by the one and only Boyfriend Blazer, the chunky oversized sweater, and the loose fitting trouser, the Boyfriend watch is a marvelous addition to our manly collectibles. These watches look superb with any casual look. We love the Boyfriend watch in a stainless steel. If you don't feel like shelling out the cash for one, look inside the nearest boys' room to snag this look.

The Classic Leather Watch

Before the glitz, before the glam, was the basic leather watch. An archive of its kind, the circular face and leather straps have the unique ability to add a touch of sophistication to any look.

The Tank Watch

Thanks to Louis Cartier, the Tank watch has grown to be one of the most fancied designs in the world of watches. His inspiration derived from the military tanks used in World War I. Today, the square and rectangular faces continue to mimic American history and will forever be idolized as a classic accessory.

Effeminate Watches

Let’s face it, being girlie is inevitably in our genes, which is why our eyes are drawn to glitter, shimmer, and all things fabulous. In the wise words of Marilyn Monroe, “Diamonds are a girls best friend,” so tell your beau that you can never have too many rocks in your draw of lavish accessories. These watches glisten in every light, so be prepared to radiate any room with your stunning watch.

From Hip Hop To Runway

Hip Hop, arguably the defining music of our era in North America, has become a rising phenomena among the youth in Russia. Over the years the once popular punk gothic rock music genre that defined Russian youth, is now being fazed out by the Hip Hop, with its blends of lyrics and sampling of other genres. As seen in the United States, Hip Hop has played a major role as a muse for fashion as well as other areas of the arts. In the US, Performers/Hip Hop Artist such as Kanye West and Niki Minaj use fashion to distinguish themselves within the industry. Others in the case of West may even cross over and use experiences in Hip Hop as a muse for fashion design.

Russian designer Andrei Ponomarev, owner of Black Star, presented his collection in Moscow at Russian Fashion Week combining his interpretation of Hip Hop as it is embraced in Russia. The Black Star Spring 2012 Collection included studded rocker jackets, padded boardwalk shorts, multi-strap aviator looks and lots of sweatshirts emblazoned with folkloric imagery. The mix of male models, studs, and embroidered sweatshirts would not be complete of course without the inclusion of several staged hits performed by Russian hip hop performer Timat. Though there was nothing particularly unique about Ponomarev’s designs, the collaboration of classic glamour and high end street wear presented the young designers range rather nicely. The production of the Ponomarev fashion show speaks volumes on his creative insights and further indicates that he is one of the new kids on the block that we all will be paying extra close attention to.

Behind the Brow: Your Guide to Great Eyebrows

Within the past few decades, we’ve come a long way in the eyebrow world. From non-existent brows of the 1990s, to once again full, natural looking eyebrows of today. (Thanks Madonna for always rocking those extra strands!) As with all trends, everything comes full circle, so look to your classic beauties for reference (e.g Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor).

Shaping your brows can be difficult, especially when you barely have any, so Ladies and Gents, let's start by growing in those sad excuses you call eyebrows. Think of this grueling process as a chance to create your new eyebrows on a blank canvas.

Let’s clear the air about the dreaded eyebrow pencil. Of course it’s quite troublesome to block out that terrifying image of your elementary school nurse's painted on eyebrows, but we're here to inform you that pencils are in fact a vital tool for accomplishing those sexy brows. When using an eyebrow pencil, be sure to make soft, light strokes to create hair-like lines. (We don't want you looking like the afore mentioned, tragic school nurse!) When choosing a pencil, always go with a lighter color than the actual color of your brows. Remember, we're blending in our pencil marks to look like natural hairs! Dark pencils tend to look like they were drawn in with a Sharpie!

If you are one of the many people who butcher their eyebrows with our dear friend, Mr. Tweezerman, here’s your chance to cross over to the darker, harrier side. You'll find that once your eyebrows are the correct shape, they'll really transform your face.

We understand how tedious the act of growing in your eyebrows can be, however, with the right eyebrow pencil, you can create perfect eyebrows and use your penciled-in eyebrows as a base for growing them in. By drawing in where your eyebrow should be, you can tell where each little hair belongs, which hairs need to be grown in, and which need to be plucked.

Okay, so let’s start shaping those unruly brows...

What you’ll need:

A magnifying mirror with a light, (if you don’t have one with a light, just make sure that the room in which you pluck has great lighting, we don’t want any uh oh moments!)

A pointy tweezer (We love Mr. Tweezerman!)

A pencil (for finding the shape of your brow)

Where your eyebrow should begin

Look straight into your mirror and hold a pencil vertically against one nostril. Check out our diagram so that you understand what we’re talking about. Where the pencil meets your brow is where your eyebrow should start. Many people pluck these Madonna like hairs, causing their eyes to look farther apart than they really are!

Where your eyebrow should arch

Hold your pencil diagonal from the outside of your pupil to the side of your nostril. The spot where your pencil hits the brow is where your arch should be, about ¾ of the way out. You may want to mark this point with an eyebrow pencil, so that you know where to begin.

Where your eyebrow should end

Take your pencil and make it align with the outer corner of your eye. Where it hits the brow is where the eyebrow should come to an end.

Trimming long hairs

If your eyebrows are on the longer side, you may need to trim them before you tweeze. Trimming before tweezing allows you to see the natural shape of the brow and gets rid of any extra weight that’s preventing you from achieving those amazing brows. Brush your eyebrows up and cut along the top, just to snip the long hairs.

Plucking your eyebrows

First off, let's tackle an eyebrow no no. Avoid plucking the hairs on the top of your eyebrows, this ruins the shape. Also, never pluck more than two rows of hairs. When you're sitting face-to-face with a magnifying mirror, it's hard to tell a difference in the shape. Once you step away from the mirror, you'll notice a dramatic difference. When plucking, less is more!! It's better to pluck too little, than to pluck too many! Once you see where your eyebrow shape should be, begin plucking. As tempting as it is, do not pluck any hairs that are growing in! We can't stress this enough, but you'll thank us later when your eyebrows are full and sexy!

The down side to waxing

Although waxing tends to be easy, cheap, and fast, many people are walking away with burns, cuts, and bacterial infections from their salons. To avoid this, try plucking your brows yourself. You’ll be very surprised once you see what you’re capable of. Often times, people do not follow the natural shape of the brow, which makes the growing in process even longer.

Avoid the ouch factor

Pluck after the shower, while pores are still open. Hairs come out easier and it’s less painful!

Don’t pluck while in a rush

Give yourself time to pluck your eyebrows. Terrible eyebrow incidents often stem from people rushing to clean up their eyebrows when they are pressed for time. No one said this was going to be quick, but the longer you spend on your brows, the less work for yourself in the long run. Besides, the more you keep plucking the hairs that make up the natural shape of your eyebrow, the less likely they are to grow in, so stop while you’re ahead!

Taming those unruly hairs

No one needs to know that you hairsprayed your eyebrows! Spray a little bit of hairspray onto an eyebrow brush to secure those hairs in place. If you do this in the morning, you won't have to worry about your eyebrows all day!

Good luck and happy plucking!!!

Here's a few celebs with fab eyebrows:

Visionary Designer Documentary on OWN

Oprah Winfrey and her production crew have given us a peek into the creative processes of some of the most talented individuals of our time with new documentary series Visionaries: Inside the Creative Mind. Among various industry professionals like Tyler Perry, Will.i.am, James Cameron, and Annie Lebovitz the latest subject is infamously private designer Tom Ford. Based on headlines, blogs, and magazines, you may think Tom Ford is simply a ready to wear designer; but after watching clips of his documentary, there is so much more behind the man in the suit. Tom Ford characterizes himself as a perfectionist and very secretive person, informing the camera crew he has never allowed anyone to film him so up and close before. Upon viewing documentary footage of Mr. Ford's everyday life, calling him a perfectionist is truly an understatement.

Known for his past affiliations with popular European brands Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent, Ford explains his everyday life as traveling the world, constant meetings, detailed runway shows and endless appearances. Aside from being financially and creatively successful, he still felt empty as if he's longed for something that could not be found. After retiring from Gucci Ford explains his life as depressive, becoming burned out in his forties and experiencing what some may call a mid-life crisis. It was not until Ford decided to answer his true calling for film making when he finally felt as though he could accomplish all.

Ford describes A Single Man (2009 film he co-wrote and directed,) as being his outlet for expressing his creative, yet intangible thoughts of society. "Everything you need to know about me is in that film," states Ford, proving to others who assumed it was just a "challenge" for him to make a film worth watching. Tom Ford's documentary, which aired October 23 and can be viewed online here, satiates our inquisitive mind as it portrays the many faces - fashion designer, photographer, film marker, and visionary - of the man behind the suit.
