Adele Reschedules American Tour Dates

British superstar Adele had to cancel several of her North American tour dates due to an onset of laryngitis in early June. But have no fear. It was announced yesterday that she is set to resume her road trip in support of her sophomore release, 21. The first group of dates for the cancelled shows will be held starting in Vancouver on August 9^th and wrapping up in Saint Paul, MN on August 24^th. The second string of rescheduled shows will kick off in Atlantic City, NJ on October 7 and carry through until hitting Grand Prairie, TX on October 7^th. Not only will Adele make up for her cancelled dates, an additional six cities have been added to the tour: Las Vegas, NV; Atlantic City, NJ; Durham, NC; Orlando, FL; Miami, FL; and Spring, TX.

In classic Kylie Minogue fashion (and even surpassing the diva), Adele’s 21 has been ranked #1 on the U.K’s pop charts for more weeks than “any other female artist in history”. In the U.S., 21 remained at #1 for 10 weeks and was deemed double platinum, along with her single “Rolling In The Deep”, which also accrued the double platinum tag and held the #1 spot for 7 weeks. Northside Festival Swallows Brooklyn

Last weekend was a musical hurricane of electric rain, bass wind and drumquakes. L Magazine presented their third installment of the now-annual Northside Festival, in the neighboring neighborhoods of Williamsburg and Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The four jam-packed days of music, art, film and expression were met with gracious and rather excitable masses of hipsters, punkers, and everyone between, creating a chasm of sound and visual therapy that will be lived through until next years festival.

On the basic level, Northside was a clinical success: there were plenty of porter potties, security – at least after Thursday – had their heads on straight, and for the most part, those with badges were rarely denied entry to shows, a common concern before the festival began.

But what really matters is the music, right? And man, did Northside come through. McCarren Park, a place most commonly known for outlandish kickball games, 32 oz. styrofoam cup laden greens, and – may they rest in piece – killer shows at the McCarren Park Pool, opened up its basketball courts across Bedford Ave. to house a main stage area that did not disappoint (except for Thursday and Friday when there was no ATM available inside).

Highlights:

Yellow Ostrich romped around the Steve Madden stage at McCarren on Friday, sending their calmingly aggressive sound over a captive audience. Their relatively new bass player, Jon Natchez (formerly of Beirut), took to an accordian at one point and then a baritone saxophone for the finale. Fresh off of a country wide tour (and some of Canada) Yellow Ostrich finished their road-madness at Northside. Though it was tough to know what to have expected from the new Barsuk Records musicians, they put on a beautiful performance. Skip ahead to Beirut: simply magical. Listening to and watching Santa Fe, NM native Zach Condon blare his trumpet to the classic, “Postcards from Italy” was like a dream, heavenly. There couldn’t have been a better collection of beautiful, musically-engaged fans all swaying in unison. Drastically switching gears, hip-hop sensation, and M.I.A’s successor, Rye Rye, rhymed Brooklyn Bowl to the ground. Her energy was through the roof and could be particularly seen in her endless, pearly white smile. For her heavy, dirty beat strewn track “Hardcore Girls”, any female that could get a leg up was pulled onto the stage by one of two fit ebony, dancing men in American Flag boxers. Not a space was left un-danced upon, not a head left dry. The best part of Rye Rye was looking into the audience and seeing the incredibly diverse sea of faces - one could not distinguish between hipster-nuts, rap-aficionados, or rock n’ rollers. It was a pure hodgepodge of talent lovers. But of all the moments surrounding the Northside Festival, St. Cecilia’s Church held, by far, the pinnacle performance. Mount Eerie’s driving force, Phil Elverum, strummed a soulfully erotic, oblique collection of (mostly new) Mount Eerie songs - not in the church’s Rec Room or their Gym like some youth group showcase, but right in front of the alter. It was a spiritually moving event - all the patrons of Elverum’s music sitting in the pews, tearfully praying on his every word, he in front as the cult leader; hell, I would have drank the Kool-Aid. Though when Mount Eerie finished, the night wasn’t over. There was still one last party to be had – YACHT at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. Joonbug writer, Emily Shesh, wrote about the epic performance from lead singer/starlet Clair Evans, “Evans presence on stage is an illuminated magnification of her far-reaching recorded voice. The pixie blonde monkey’d from stage front to amp-top in single bounds whle seducing her audience and band mates alike with uninhibiteddance moves and powerhouse vocals.” Truly she was a site to behold. At the end of the weekend legs were tired, eyes were heavy and bellies were full but the memories of countless guitar riffs and pulsing synth beats, flailing arms and dancing feet, will not soon be forgotten. The third annual, L Magazine Northside Festival was truly a unique and overwhelming success. Hope to see you all out there next year.

Camp Bisco 10 Is Right Around The Corner

In less than two weeks the Indian Lookout Country Club in Mariaville, NY, will be taken over by Camp Bisco 10 Music and Arts Festival. The 200 acre property of rolling, flat, grassy fields will be the weekend home to over 100 performances, spinning roughly 15,000 + fans into the stratosphere. Thursday, July 7 through Saturday, July 9 will be packed with national and international artists looking for nothing more than to feed the frenzy of sweaty, smiling dancers and heady thinkers.

In addition to the two side-by-side main stages (which is always a great setup for a festival of this magnitude) there will be a Silent Disco and an Up & Coming stage, as well as not one, but TWO afternoon and late night Dance Tents. Last year, the dance tents were such a smash that CBX has moved them to "an improved location" and will be featuring both "surround sound system[s] and an increase in overall capacity."

Also, keeping up with true Camp Bisco fashion, Bassnectar and Ratatat will performing during the set breaks on Friday and Saturday nights. This worthwhile addition is to ensure that fans are "constantly entertained", which will be no hard task considering the level of intensity within the epic lineup.

Mice Parade

By far one of the most impressive instances of genre-blending, shoegazing, inventive rock is percussionist, Adam Pierce's band, Mice Parade. This experimental mind melds intricate, precision drumming with a slew of overdubs, acoustic (and electric) guitars, violins, old synths, vibes (and other world instruments) and elevated, soothing vocal melodies to birth an indelible new sound that transcends the mold of the post-rock movement. Shinning through as heavy influences are African based beats and Eastern harmonics.

Mice Parade began as Pierce's studio project in 1998, but quickly grew into a successful touring group as he added members to take on each aspect of the instrumentals. As Mice Parade wrote more and more albums - eight to date - Pierce began to refine the voice he was looking to speak from. The subsequent feeling, years later, is extremely modern as much as it is moving. The classical-acoustic presence amongst a surrounding esoteric atmosphere and syncopated drumming set Mice Parade apart as innovators of a highly emotive and comforting progression of music. If rock were a caterpillar, Mice Parade would be the butterfly.

Au Revoir Simone

Don't let the name fool you, these hip-ass chicks are from Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY, not France. The name actually stems from a line in Pee-Wee's Big Adventure where Paul Reubens' character, Pee-Wee, says goodbye to his friend Simone.

Formed in 2003, Erika Forster, Annie Hart and Heather D'Angelo have created a atmospheric fairy tale of music through keyboards, soft electronic drum-machine beats and ambient tones. Gleaming through more-often-than-not sad lyrics - "I'm the one to forget/The one you won't regret" from "The Last One" - these voices of angels ease their way through your soul, somehow lifting the unbearable weight of being off of heavy shoulders. As each woman holds her own vocally, three-part harmonies glisten through their tracks which dance on the whimsical and childlike.

To date, Au Revoir Simone have three LP's: 2005's Verses of Comfort, Assurance & Salvation, 2007's The Bird of Music, and 2009's Still Night, Still Light. Their songs have been featured, and well deserved, on the television series' Grey's Anatomy, Ugly Betty, Another LIkely Story and Covert Affairs. Their talent and tenacity is remarkable as they have the ability to trance audiences of all venues. Be it the Treasure Island Music Festival or an intimate gathering at the Mercury Lounge, Au Revoire Simone remind us that it's okay to feel hurt and that you're not alone.

Elliott Smith

Pinned as one of the most tragic losses music has sustained since Kurt Cobain's burning out (not fading away), Steven Paul "Elliott" Smith altered the state of indie rock for all succeeding generations. Through a quiet desperation, this humble, tortured soul strummed his guitar and wrote songs about lost love, the pains of dealing with addiction and living life in squalor, amongst other topics.

His unique chord structures and stylization coupled with tremendous vocal range and melodies landed him an Academy Award and Oscar nomination for the song, "Miss Misery", and a nod to perform the track live at the Oscars - an opportunity he reluctantly accepted.

When he spoke about the experience, Smith said, "That's exactly what it was, surreal... I enjoy performing almost as much as I enjoy making up songs in the first place. But the Oscars was a very strange show, where the set was only one song cut down to less than two minutes, and the audience was a lot of people who didn't come to hear me play. I wouldn't want to live in that world, but it was fun to walk around the moon for a day."

After the critical success of Either/Or in 1997, Smith's third LP, Smith fell into a bout depression and was reported having tried to commit suicide. In an interview Smith said, "Yeah, I jumped off a cliff, but let's talk about something else." But through these dark experiences that Smith wrote about, listeners were able to find a piece of themselves within them. Elliott Smith's music has been a staple for many of those who are depressed and despondent. It's tonality and lyrical content allow the audience to feel a part of something bigger, to feel as though someone lives in the same state of mind as theirs.

He eventually lost his battle with addiction and suicide, and though it has been speculated that he was clean and sober at the time of his death, and even further rumors spurred that his girlfriend at the time killed him, Elliott Smith took his own life by stabbing himself in the chest in 2003. He may be gone, but like the late Cobain, Smith's music will live on forever. Wherever there's a sad and lonely teenager, you'll find Elliott Smith.

Modest Mouse

It almost feels like cheating having Modest Mouse up here, but after eighteen years, five studio albums, two cassettes, and nine EP's of absolutely intoxicatingly fresh songs, how can they not. The most interesting part about Modest Mouse is not Isaac Brock's ceaseless creation of insightful lyrics, but the fact that they've managed to keep their same sound for nearly two decades, yet each track is so unique in itself.

Formed in Issaquah, Washington in 1993, Modest Mouse are known for their sloppy guitars, loose drumming and Brock's almost-sounds-like-he's-going-to-cry-on-every-word-and-you're-not-quite-sure-if-he's-going-to-hit-his-notes vocalization. There have been a slew of instruments throughout each album including upright bass, fiddle, horns, ukulele and banjo, but twangy guitars, grooving bass lines and ratcheting drums has always held the wheel.

Little known fact about the rockers, though there are a great many that want to know - Modest Mouse took their name from the Virginia Woolf story, The Mark on the Wall. The line reads, "I wish I could hit upon a pleasant track of thought, a track indirectly reflecting credit upon myself, for those are the pleasantest thoughts, and very frequent even in the minds of modest, mouse-coloured people, who believe genuinely that they dislike to hear their own praises." Concurring with Woolf's idea, Modest Mouse's lyrics are often humbling and self-deprecative. From "Custom Concern," "Message read on the bathroom wall say, 'I don't feel at all like I fall' and we're losin' all touch, losin' all touch, building a desert."

The Appleseed Cast

There is no better display of an eclectic sound than the Appleseed Cast. Throughout the course of their thirteen year career, they've come upon several lineup changes intermingled with a rather long hiatus for 2005 and most of 2006. But to no avail, the Appleseed Cast have continued to create their own sound, innovating off the stylings of Sunny Day Real Estate, Mineral, Braid and the likes.

When The Appleseed Cast formed in 1997, they quickly became one of the most definitive groups to come out of the emo era. But since that time, and through much fine tuning, they have grown into an influential supergroup that has been changing the face of rock for all whosucceed them. Their combination of spacial, atmospheric experimentation, reflective, gauzy melodies, and driving rock creates an unrestricted, unrestrained notion of majestic imagery suitable for any mood. To balance their seven voluminous LP's, the energetic, surreal experience of The Appleseed Cast's live performance is sensational. While David Guetta is preparing for EDC Las Vegas this weekend as a headlining artist, he is also releasing new beats and vids. Nothing seems to stop this French hitmaker from dropping the hottest tracks with some of music’s biggest names.

Guetta’s 5^th studio LIP, Nothing But the Beat, is scheduled to arrive August 30. He has enlisted an all-star cast of collaborators on the album, including Akon, Snoop Dogg, Usher, Will.i.am, Jennifer Hudson, Timbaland, Sia, and Dev.

Everybody who’s anybody has become obsessed with the global internet sensations Amy Ellis & Nick, better known as Karmin. The duo gave Busta Rhymes a run for his tongue when they dropped a cover of “Look At Me Now” and completely killed it. The good people at Rocawear have partnered up with the heavily demanded couple for Rocawear’s “That’s Rocawear” campaign. Amy takes on Jay-Z’s classic hit “Encore” and spits Hov’s verses, while Nick plays the keys with a mash-up of their original song, “Carbon Copy.”

The duo has reportedly secured a deal with L.A. Reid at Epic Records and is scheduled to perform during the BET Awards pre-show this Sunday.

Explosions in the Sky's First Video

In an exclusive with wired.com, the Austin, Texas group released the first, but certainly not the last, official music video for "Last Known Surroundings", an 8 minute, inspiring celestial journey off their latest LP, Take Care, Take Care, Take Care.

The video takes you on an adventure through spacial, geometric plains into the very fabric of a digital universe, down to a world with breathing mountains and valleys, trees and cliffs. It's space, it's earth, it's everything between what has and what possibly will exist. The concept, while dreamt up by the band, was brought to fruition by Ptarmak, a talented design studio based in Austin and "close friends" of the group. And after, "months and months of solid work," the team has finally created a visually stunning masterpiece that falls seamlessly in line with the odysseys that Explosions in the Sky are known for producing.

For those of you that crave more, the band said in a statement, "We intend to get a few more videos made by some other friends and filmmakers over the next few months," and encouraged fans to continue making their own videos and posting them on YouTube. "Believe it or not, we have seen a great deal of [fan videos] and have enjoyed almost all of them."

“Levels,” released in May, was perhaps the most anticipated track of the year and the most epic house anthem to date. Recently, another version was released with a little hip-hop flare. Flo-Rida, the king of releasing banger after banger throughout all the clubs in the world, threw down a verse on the song. Here is yet another artist exploding Avicii into every facet of music style. For some, this remix could be a little disheartening to hardcore Avicii fans who would hate to see the mega-mixer fall to the hands of mainstream artists. The song is fire no matter what, mostly because it originated from the techno-master himself.

Exclusive Interview with 106 & Park's DJ Prostyle

DJ Prostyle is no newbie to the music scene, as he’s been propelling his career as a DJ since the tender age of 13. It is no surprise that his name is a combination of the two most essential attributes needed to succeed in today’s music industry—professionalism and style.

This exclusive interview reveals that he not only embodies both of these qualities, but continues to push all boundaries of his career. DJ Prostyle was born in Queens, NY and moved to Orlando, Florida as a young teenager where he began to build his propensity for DJing. After a few years of throwing countless house parties and releasing mixtapes, Prostyle developed a loyal fan base, which ultimately landed him his own show on a college radio station at the age of 16. As his credentials continued to escalate, Prostyle scored another mix show at the age of 18 and his music permeated the airwaves, catapulting him to the 1 mix show in Orlando at the prime time 5pm slot.

Eventually, Prostyle became known throughout the world when he joined the infamous DJ crew, the Heavy Hitters. He has since then stepped up his game full throttle as he is now managed by P. Diddy and holds the title as an official DJ emissary for Ciroc, an ultra-premium vodka that made spirits history in 2007 by enterting into a strategic branding alliance with Sean "Diddy" Combs. As if that’s not enough, Prostyle has expanded to network television as the official DJ for BET’s 106 & Park every Wednesday and Friday and continues to hold down the radio scene on New York’s #1 hip-hop/R&B station, Power 105.1. The sky is the limit for this pro-stylin’ DJ.

LC: You began building your DJ skills at an incredibly young age of 13. How did you get such an early start? Did you grow up in an especially musical household?

DJ Prostyle: Yeah, my parents were into music. My father played the drums so we always had musical instruments in the house to play with. Me and my cousin growing up always said we would start our own band at some point.

LC: Did you and your cousin ever get a chance to do that before you hit the DJing scene?

DJ Prostyle: No, I moved from New York to Florida before we could. It was in Florida where I started to want to become a DJ.

LC: Who were some of your musical heroes growing up? Was there a particular artist who ignited your interest in becoming a DJ?

DJ Prostyle: Well, first I’d have to give credit to my sister who would throw house parties when I was young. It’s there that I would see the DJ playing the music and became interested in it. After a party one night the DJ left his equipment at my house. He said I could play with it while it was there and showed me some things. He ended up leaving it at my house for a couple of days and during that time I think I never went to sleep. I just sat there playing with it. It’s there that I wanted to become a DJ. After getting into it, I then started paying attention to DJ’s like Kid Capri and saw the energy and skill he would put out. He, I say, would be one of my main influences as a DJ.

LC: What is the origin of your DJ name?

DJ Prostyle: Funny, but I actually found myself sitting down with too much time on my hands and I said it was time to figure one out…So, I took a piece of paper and started writing down names that were hot at the time and sounded cool. One thing I was always told was that I was professional with how I would do things, so I wanted to somehow tie that word into the name. I took the PRO part and added it with STYLE, then asked some people what they thought. They said they liked it and it was original, so, I ran with it.

LC: Well, these days it doesn’t seem like you have too much time on your hands! You’ve created quite an impressive musical resume for yourself and are very multifaceted—clubs, hosting BET’s 106 & Park, radio shows, etc. Which lane of your job do you enjoy the most?

DJ Prostyle: To be honest, I really just love doing it all. Each different lane gives me a different rush. Getting into DJing young, my first step was clubs and I loved the feeling of controlling a crowd. Then, when I got on the radio and started to see the big impact it had in the city, I knew it was something special. Once I was blessed to be given the opportunity on TV, the impact was amazing. Each one is equally special to me. I think without clubs I wouldn’t of made it to radio, then without radio I wouldn’t of made it to TV. Blessed to be doing all three!

LC: What was the first event you played at or put on when you realized that you were truly making a name for yourself?

DJ Prostyle: I DJ’d for a big concert in the city. It was sold out so the crowd was huge. It was the first time that I got on stage in front of a lot of people and actually first got the mic and started saying things to the crowd. Once the reaction was good and I realized the crowd was rocking with me, it’s there that I gained trust in myself that I could actually do it.

LC: And then, of course, the hip-hop mogul himself, P. Diddy, noticed your talent. What has it been like working with him and being a part of the Ciroc Boyz team? Best part of rolling with that crew?

DJ Prostyle: For me, it’s a blessing. Being a DJ for so long, I watched Diddy take off with Bad Boy and create history. Before even working with him I already had the most respect for everything he had already accomplished. When we talked one day and he told me he wanted to manage me, it was a true honor. Being a Ciroc Boy is great—taking a brand like Ciroc and help push it to where it’s gotten today is a great accomplishment. Plus, when we all roll out somewhere together it’s like one big family. Everyone who is a Ciroc Boy is someone that is doing good for themselves in the market they’re in or even around the country or world.

LC: I can only imagine the scene you guys get into when you’re all together! What’s your drink of choice?

DJ Prostyle: I would say Ciroc and Red Bull.

LC: Who do you think is going to rock the mic the hardest at the BET Awards? There are some tough acts to follow after last year’s performances.

DJ Prostyle: Yeah, definitely a tough decision. For me, I’m always around a lot of the artists and see them perform, so it’s more of who I’m looking forward to seeing. I would have to say Beyoncé. If her performance is like her new video, I’m sure she will bring the house down.

LC: You have your own promotion company and earlier this year you were dubbed the 2011 ambassador for Verizon. What a regal title! What other projects do you have going on?

DJ Prostyle: Yeah, I learned how to throw parties when I first got into the biz, so I created a promotion company when I was young. Now, it’s more run by some partners of mine because I’m too busy to be hands on. Right now I’m staying really busy with radio, clubs, and TV for BET, but I plan on working on doing a lot more TV soon. Maybe hosting a TV show, reality show, or something like that…Let’s see.

LC: Any last words? Shout outs? Confessions?

DJ Prostyle: *LAUGHTER* Confessions! Oh my god, we would be here all day and night! But honestly, I’m just blessed to be here doing what I love to do. Hopefully I’ll be here for a long time and continue to grow in this industry and break out into new lanes that I haven’t yet gotten to.
