My center is not just a regular Primary Math tuition center, it’s a Math coaching center here in Singapore. I found my niche many years ago. I didn’t want to just teach children to revise better or make them do thick booklets of questions over and over again.

I wanted to get down to the real issue – why children hated Math and how I could help them overcome it.

Because of this, my team and I introduced a concept that we teach to our primary school students.

What if instead of studying all the theories and concepts, they could just study one concept that could apply to all the problem sums?

On 18/7/2012 (Wednesday), I have decided to do an online experiment – an experiment to help business owner to leverage on the internet and to collect local leads using blogs.

Business owners include plumbers, piano teachers, violin teachers, tutors, interior designers, carpenters, furniture shop owners, doctors, chiropractors and so on. The list goes on and on.

One of the major obstacles they face is getting new leads. Without new leads, there won’t be any new customers to sell to and their businesses will die a slow (sometimes painful) death. Most small business owners are very busy managing their daily business affair. So most do not have a proper marketing system to help them get new leads.

In Singapore where I am staying, the common online marketing strategies that business owners use are listing on coupon sites such as Groupon, listing on online classified ads and directories, using Google Adwords and Facebook Ads.

These strategies will ONLY work if you have a proper product funnel. Most just signed up for these programmes and hope they get LOTS OF Customers and LOTS OF $$$. But it seldom works this way. Let me share with you why. Listing on coupon sites like Groupon is bad for small businesses and most owners are going to lose money. Listing on online directories is not ideal too as their ad is competing against thousands of other ads. Most have underperforming ads. Using Google Adwords and Facebook Ads is going to burn a BIG hole in their pocket as too as most use them blindly by not optimising the ads, the squeeze pages and lowering the cost per click.

So possibly, using blogs to reach out to customers may still be one of the most cost-effective (I didn’t say free) methods to educate your customers, to get them to buy from you and to build a strong following.

So what is this online specifically about?

Even though I have started this experiment about 2 months ago and it is still ongoing, I really want to share with you what I did, the challenges I face, the results I gotten (small, big or none) and the steps I took to solve some of the problems I face. I am also sharing what I had been doing due to the good response I had gotten for the 3-parts Niche Tutorials.

When I first started, I have no idea if everything is going to be ok:

Honestly then, I have no idea if it would have worked or not. There were many factors to consider such as category of your niche, competition of keywords, type of customers, spending per customer, whether they will buy online and even if they buy online, what kind of products/ services they really want and how much they are willing to spend.

Looking through all these unknowns had given me a BIG headache and I was scared too – scared to have created an experiment which had a negative outcome and to hear my readers booing at me.

I was hesistant then but my buddy, David from “Learn Niche Marketing” encouraged me to start this experiment so as to prove that lead generation using blogs REALLY works. So now, I decided to create this case study and share it with you.

Well, since this is just an experiment and whatever happens, it will be for the fun of it, right?
Plus by sharing what I did, perhaps you will be able to tweak my methods and develope your personal strategies to help your local business.

Choosing my niche:

So I have decided to go into a niche which I really love – Math Niche. Having background in children’s education psychology, my strength (beside coaching and internet marketing) is teaching students and helping them to drastically improve their academic results within a very short time frame.

As the Math niche is very wide, ranging from pre-school Math to University Math, I must narrow it down further to Primary school Math. I chose this niche because I already know parents are spending a lot of money in this niche plus I have over 10 years of working experience with parents whose kids are in this age group (9 to 13). According to this article – Asia spending billions on tutors: study, Singapore spent US$680 million in 2008! Imagine how much more parents are spending NOW? Perhaps 1 billion dollars solely in Singapore? Who knows? :p

After doing more research and observing the local tuition trends, here is the demographic of my customers:
– Parents with children who are in Primary 5 and 6
– Parents’ age falls between 30 to 50
– Living in Singapore
– English speaking
– Internet savvy
– Already spending money on their kids by signing them up for tuition, buying Math assessment books, registering for motivational workshops. (monthly expenses per parent is estimated to be at least $100 per month and it can go up to over S$5000/ month considering the fees paid for more premium tuition services and other enrichment programmes.)

So the niche has been selected and I am going to set up my blog – my online vehicle for collection of local leads.

There will be a 3 key components:
– Free content as blog posts
– Subscribed content (Reader needs to opt in to get my free e-book)
– Paid content (Reader needs to pay to get it)

Now, let’s go!

Blog set up:

To house these 3 key components, I need my blog to be up as soon as possible. So once I bought the domain here. Some of you may wonder what domain to get. Get one which is brandable. For example, “HelpingKidsToStudy.com” is not a brandable domain. But “KidsMathTips.com” is a shorter and sweeter domain which is more brandable. It is also easier for your customers to type in the address bar. If you are not sure if your domain choice is good enough, do not register it. Discuss with your friends and tell them about your plan. Ask for feedback and you will have a much better and clearer picture if your domain name is your best choice.

In the past, DNS propagation would take at least 24 to 48 hours. But now, it is almost instant. So within a day, I set up my WordPress blog and change the following settings:
1. change the permalinks
2. added a www. to my WordPress address

Content creation:

As I had mentioned, I have chosen a niche which I am very passionate about. So creating content is a very simple task for me. Since it is a Math for Primary 6 students, I have thought of creating solutions for some of the local top school exam papers.

Top school papers could be purchased from local shops and parents were already eagerly including them in their children’s practice arsenal. So by providing systematic and easy to understand solutions should be the right move for parents to start liking my blog and perhaps telling their other parent friends aboout my blog. I decided to do this by myself and it turned out to be a bad decision made. I took 7 days to complete the blog posts of 39 Math questions including solutions. Maybe I could have this outsourced too but I couldn’t find any freelancer who is familiar with Singapore PSLE Math syllabus. So this explains why I did it myself. It was nightmare and I am so glad I had completed it.

In fact, to better understand this market, I spent long hours in local bookshop browsing through various assessment books. This is my personal market research. I also stood by the shelves observing which assessment books first caught the parents’ attention. If you feel comfortable, you can chit chat with the parents and ask them how they choose the books. Nothing beats asking your customers and hearing from them what they want, how makes them buy and how much they spend on average per month.

On 25/7/2012, I planned on getting more content and I had decided to outsource all of them, not wanting to go through the mental nightmare I had been through a few days ago. As you know, I have writers in my team and they are great writers. And they are fast too. If you love writing, you can create all your blog posts. However, I feel my writers can do a better job than me and I should outsource my work to them.

So to speed things up, I created a list of 5 blog titles and added in some instructions for them on how they should write every article.

In short, I gave them a map to follow for every article so they know what I want.

For example, one of the blog titles is “Great exam smart tips”. In the instructions, I wrote that my writer has to write about cutting careless mistakes, allocating time to check solutions, empowering the mind to do well for the exam and so on. Of course, I added some examples just to make sure my writer knows exactly what I want.

You should use this method to communicate to your writers too so you will get what you want. It is not necessary for you to write all your writers. You are a business owner and learning to delegate work to your team is vital for your business.

Remember that your aim is to generate and create leads so that you can generate sales and profits.

Normally, each writer can churn out one article per day. So you can do your Math and delegate your work to them so you can hit your quota. Remember, I am going to grow this blog into an authority blog and thus, the content must be of high quality. So if your writer can write better than you, pay them to help you.

Product creation:

Again, Math being my passion is making my creation of the products very easy. (So the lesson here is choose a niche you are very familiar with.) I have always known that speed is a critical factor in doing well for exam. If the student can do fast with high accuracy, he is definitely a winner. Within 3 days, I created a 10-questions e-worksheet with solutions. My selling angle is to help the child learn to speed up.

I had also designed a great ecover. As I am trained in copywriting, I created a simple sales copy on the 4th day. I also did some screenshots of how the e-worksheets look like so my potential customers (the parents) can have a visual of what they are buying. Lastly, I top it up with a nice checkout button to make this simple sales page look professional.

In fact, if you are green and may not know any one of these skills – graphic design, copywriting, product creation, you are going to face a lot of difficulties. However, one possible solution is always to outsource these. I suggest using Odesk.com According to Wikipedia, oDesk is a company with a global job marketplace and a series of tools targeted at businesses that intend to hire and manage remote workers. So you can get all the help you need.

So back to the setting up of my product, everything was done and ready to roll out. The worksheet was priced at S$4.90. Why in Singapore dollars? Because I am targeting local market. So price your product according to the local currency.

And why I only did onee- worksheet and not do 10 of them? Doing 10 of them needs more time. And one very important business skill I learnt is you got to roll out a low-end product with a reasonably good sales page within 7 days so that you can test the viability of your business. Is anyone in your niche buying stuff from the internet? If yes, how many and how much are they spending. In fact, almost all assessment books and worksheets are sold in physical forms. So it was really a gamble for me to start my Math blog and sell assessment worksheets in digital form.

Traffic generation:

First, I created the sitemap and submit to Google Webmaster Tool. Next, I created the feed using Feedburner. Once done, it is time to ping my blog using Pingomatic.

In the end of August, I was looking for cheap or free alternatives to generating more traffic to my site. I chance upon this great video from Strayblogger.com

The methods were relatively simple but it could take a lot of my time to create those videos, upload them to Youtube and creating powerpoint files and upload them to slide sharing websites. While I was figuring out how to do so much within the limited time I have, a friend, who is working in a company which runs a very popular Parenting website, contacted me. He wanted me to contribute content for their PSLE exam related articles. This website has over 38,000 pageviews per day and the best thing is their readers are exactly the readers for my blog. They wrote two articles about exam techniques and my website was featured with backlinks to my website. They even promoted my site to their list of 32,000 Facebook fans.

On the day that my first articles were featured, the traffic shot up by about 3 times.

Building my subscribers and customers list

After my blog was launched (end of July), it took a few days before real humans could find my site by doing a Google search. My first subscriber opt in on 7th August. It was not until I have launched my sales page and my first sale came in 20 days later.

– 877 Unique Visitors
– 39 subscribers (conversion rate of 4.4%)
– 7 copies of e-worksheets sold (conversion rate of 17.1%)
– 10 enquiries on my consultation service (conversion rate of 25.6%) – this alone is worth at least S$2000 to – S$5000 per month
– 2 customers who wanted to arrange their first appointment for my consultation and coaching (conversion rate of 20%)

With the traffic I am receiving, I am expecting more people to opt in and more people to buy my e-worksheets. Maybe, the freebie offer is still not attractive enough for more people to opt in. Somehow, the traffic is wasted. Interestingly, it was until last week that my subscription rate went to a complete halt. Before that, I still have about one opt in per day or every 2 days. My analysis told me that perhaps, the exam is coming soon (next week) and that is why the parents are probably looking for something else such as how to help their children cope with exam anxiety or how to equip them with last minute exam preparation tips.

Once PSLE is over, I plan to do an overhaul for my blog. I was talking to some parents who have kindly offer their honest feedback about website. Though they are not website designers, they know what they want for themselves and their children. They feel that my blog lacks professional feel. Most parents will prefer to consult “experts” who have tuition centres (more credibility and credential here.)

The reason why they didn’t opt in is because the freebie is not compelling enough. They don’t see the value once the exam nears. So this taught me to be mindful of how parents change their decision to opt in as the exam nears.

So I would need to create a better and different freebie for different period of the year or merge all of them into one. I am still deciding. I also plan to invest money in getting a professional copywriter to improve my sales copy. In addition, I may add more relevant products to increase the value and focusing on the “How to” rather than the “What”. I am also asking my designer to redesign my site to give it a more corporate feel.

For those of you who have started creating your blogs, it is time to look into the on-page and off-page seo strategies of your niche sites.

This phase is really important because the amount of traffic going to your site is dependant on how well your site is ranked for the keyword or keywords. More traffic means more visitors and it means more $$$.

In the SEO world, there are 1001 techniques to get your website ranked well in the search engine. Some work well for others but may not have worked well for us. There are other techniques which have worked well for us but are ineffective for others. We hope that by sharing what work well for us can give you some clues on how you can start.

While I was planning to write this post, I have initially wanted to explain what on-page and off-page SEO is. However, I realised my intention of creating this tutorial series is to share our exact strategies of building niche blogs and NOT teach what SEO is. So I have decided to just share other people’s webpages which explained what on-page and off-page SEO are.

After the Penguin and Panda update, no one really knows what Google is up to next. There is no one strategy that will work forever. Our strategies may work today but not tomorrow. So, there is always a need to learn more and upgrade our knowledge about SEO.

The greatest fear we have is that all our sites, which are ranking on page 1 for certain keywords, are dropped to other pages. This will cause a drastic fall in traffic to our niche sites, and thus less income for us. Sometimes, it will get so drastic that it can kill the niche sites, giving them a fatal blow. But, this shouldn’t prevent you from trying out this proven business model.

At this point in time, we are fortunate our strategies are working well. However, we need to continue to read up more. There is no end to learning and fine-tuning of our strategies.

Passion gas fuels an authority site. Nothing else can do an equally good job as passion gas.

An authority site grows from your desire to share your passion with the world. An authority site grows with you.

For instance, if you love dogs the way Cesar Milan loves dogs, you have an authority site.

Recently, I started another site about Maths. I love Maths and have coached numerous students in this subject.

I had my very own special way of engaging the children and getting them to grasp “hard” Maths concepts within minutes. Something that most parents are not able to do. I have BIG dreams of holding my Maths workshops for parents and children too.

So, a month ago, after a discussion with my friend, David who runs iPhotoCourse Digital Photography, I have decided to embark on another journey to build another authority site.  (My other authority site is a wedding planning blog)

The result: A month later (today), my site has started making money.

Here is the process to start earning your first dollar:

1. Deciding your niche

As mentioned, this niche must be a niche which you love alot. If you love it alot, most likely you know alot about it too and this will help you to have a great start because you know what your readers want. For instance, if you love cooking, start a cooking blog. As a stay at home dad, I have started to pick up cooking recently. This is a great recipe site I love to visit – MunchMinistry.com and they hold cooking classes for its community. Thus, charging for cooking classes is their way of making money by blogging about food.

2. Getting a brandable domain name

For niche blogging, we are always on the lookout for low competition keywords which are easy to rank. However, since I am building an authority site, the domain name must be brandable. It means it should not be something like “studyingprimaryschoolmaths.com” No one will want to type such a long name. A better name might be “MathsExcel.com”

3. Keyword research

Now, this keyword research is for finding suitable keywords to rank the pages in your website. For example, if “how to excel in Maths” is a suitable keyword, you can record it down and use it as one of the titles for your blog post/ article. After your keyword research, you should have a list of 10 to 15 keywords. Choose a keyword for each article title.

4. Blog set up

Here are the rules I follow:

– WordPress platform

– Clean white background

– 2 columns with right sidebar

– Basic pages to have: contact, about me and two more pages which matter to your readers

– Product/ service page (your money page which differs and is dependant on the niche you are in.)

– Opt in form/ page (for building your list) (I recommend GetResponse)

5. On-page and off-page Seo

Make sure you optimised all your pages and your entire site. One plugin which you must use is “All in one SEO” plugin. You can do manual backlinking by finding other sites/ blogs in the same niche. Do not miss out the social bookmarking too. In addition, you can choose to engage Warriors who provide reliable SEO services in Warrior Forum.

6. Content Creation

There is only one rule to follow: provide quality content. An authority site is very different from niche site. It is not set-and-forget blog. One of your goals should be to build a community around your site. So you must meet the needs of your readers. Build your site for your readers. If you don’t, someone else will.

One way of churning out quality content is to write yourself. The other way is to outsource some of the writing to good writers. You can train and guide your writers to write in the way you want.

7. Direct your content to pre-sell your product/ service

Your blog content should serve some purpose and one of them should be to provide great value to your readers and to show them how good you are. You must provide an impression that since your free content is good, your paid content is even better. So this will turn some of your readers into paying customers.

8. Choosing a payment processor

You can use PayPal.com. If you have an affiliate program which can get others to sell for you, you can use e-junkie

Problems (with solutions):

Niche research – Though the steps seemed simple, finding the right niche is the hardest step. When I asked my students in my coaching program what do they love, most gave me a blank look. Others need more time to think about what they are passionate about. So give yourself time to think about your niche.

Keyword research – This part can be difficult for most people. As this is an authority site, it is ok to find bigger keywords which have more competition.

Content creation – I know some of you do not love to write or prefer to outsource this part. Yes, you can do it. The next challenging part is to find good writers who you can trust and who can write in the style you like. So you may need to go through some firing and hiring of writers before finding the right one. Expect that even good writers won’t stay long as they have other commitments too. So always be on the look out for better writers.

Too overwhelming for newbies – Though there are only 8 steps, the learning curve for newbies can be very steep. So give yourself ample time to fully understand every step and execute it so that you can learn what works or does not work for you.

Just like mastering any other skill, you need to commit to 3 to 4 hours everyday to sharpen your keyword research skill. Researching keywords can be very frustrating but it gets easier with more practice. The reward is big once you find a low competition and high CPC keyword. =)

In this second tutorial, we are going to talk about how to set up a system for setting up your sites and creating your content. Remember, you are a business owner now. In order to make more money and work less, you need to work smarter.

The only way to achieve this is to set up a system which can even run without you and your only role is to manage it.

If you are planning to churn out a minumom of 100 blogs per month, I DO NOT recommend that you do everything by yourself. Even if you are new to blogging, you should try to set up a maximum of two to three blogs to have a feel how to go about doing it. This is to facilitate your training of your Virtual Assistants – your staff who are going to hire to do your work and you just manage them while oiling your system at times.

First, you need to know where to find your virtual assistants. They need to be reliable, efficient and honest.

I use Odesk.com to find my virtual staff. According to Wikipedia, oDesk is a company with a global job marketplace and a series of tools targeted at businesses that intend to hire and manage remote workers.

Another great resource site is VirtualStaffFinder.com

For written content, I use iWriter.com The writers provide fast and good service. You can choose not to accept articles which do not fit your criteria.

Now, you are the business owner cum manager and it is important that you train your workers well. It is important to train them well too so that they follow specifically what you tell them to and they give you exactly what you want. Alot of times the whole system collapsed simply because clear instructions and proper training are not given to the workers. So it is very important to clearly communicate across what you need.

The first training should be a 1.5 hour Skype call.

Briefly tell your freelancer

– what her role is,

– what is expected is her and

– her tasks.

Then, you can go into the details, explaining the “whys” and the “hows”.

By clearly documenting every step, including screenshots, in a training document and sending it to the freelancer before the training can make the training more effective.

Likewise for working with your writers, clear instructions must be given. You need to tell them exactly what you want and how your articles should be written. Here is the email template which I sent to my writers. Feel free to use it and add in other points you need.

Hi [[name of writer]],

Here are the set of keywords.

Please write one article for one keyword.

keyword 1 – Primary article (800 words)
keyword 2 – Secondary article (500 words)
keyword 3 – Secondary article (500 words)
keyword 4 – Secondary article (500 words)
keyword 5 – Secondary article (500 words)

Proof read and spell check for grammar and spelling ;

5 very important pointers to note:

– Do write an engaging title
– Keep each paragraph to no more than 4 lines.
– Make sure the keyword to be used in the first sentence of first paragraph and last sentence of last paragraph of the article
– To have at least 2 to 3 sub-titles for easier reading
– Write the way as if you are talking to the reader
– Do submit any article once you have completed it

Here is a great post on hiring and outsourcing niche site content.

You can get some ideas for your secondary keywords by scrolling down to the bottom of the Google search results. Pick a few which you like and add them as tags too.

Provide an online storage platform for your writers to drop their articles into. One free resource is Dropbox. Create a sharing folder for your writers and check the folder regularly. This is to ensure all your writers submit their work on time. As each site will have at least 5 articles written for it, it is important to be organised from the start.

Name sub-folders according the domain names and instruct your writers to drop all the articles meant for the domains.

Your VA who is responsible for putting up the content will have access to the articles in the Dropbox folder. So everything bypassess you and all you need to do is to manage it and make sure work is submitted on time.

The best system is always the one you are going to create.

Always improve your system by:
– asking for feedback (are your instructions clear? what are the feedbacks from your VA regarding your training? what difficulties do they face? what suggestions do they have to make the process better?)
– track the work of your staff (identify backlogs and patterns which may indicate potential problems. Your job is to find the cause of those problems and solve them as soon and fast as possible.)

You can get your VA and writers to record all the work done using Google Doc Add their gmail addresses and they will be able to access it.

You also need a record sheet for your expenses.

Make sure you have the following columns:
– MM/ YYYY
– Currency (Your country currency or USD)
– Item (what did you buy?)
– Mode (PayPal, Credit Card, Cash?)
– Paid by (Who in your team paid?)
– Total spent this month

Remember to pay your staff on time. If pay day has been set on the last day of the month, make sure you pay them on that day. Employees like to be paid on time and they will be happy. Employees who are happy will most likely continue to work for you.

At the beginning stage, you may be testing some of the new VAs and writers out and you can opt for payment per assignment. Once your system is oiled and is functioning better and you are very certain you like the VA/ writer’s work, negotiate with your VA and workers for a monthly payout. This helps to cut down your expenses.

Ask for their PayPal email addresses so that your expenses can be kept track in PayPal records.

The greatest challenge you will face is to  have your mindset completely changed – from an employee’s mindset to an entreprenuer’s mindset. There will be many times (I guarantee!) that you will want to physically do the tasks just because you feel you can do it much better than your VAs.

The other common problem you face comes from working with your staff.

There will be:
– late submission of articles / work
– poor work delivered
– not being to hit your quota

Mindset change – Always remember that you are setting up your system which MUST run without you. So the only way to do it is to hire other people, to use other people’s time to manage it and to use other people’s money.

You must not be afraid to spend money and invest in your business. It is when you overcome this fear, then you can move forward to think of different creative ways to scale your business and make more money.

Let’s do a recap of the other problems and we will discuss how we attempted to solve them:

– late submission of articles

Hire at least 3 writers and spread the work out. Eventually fire the one who fails to deliver on time.

– poor work delivered

Provide proper training for your staff.

For the webmaster, provide her with proper training and comprehensive training document to follow and refer to.
You will need to schedule weekly Skype meeting.

– not being to hit your quota

This may result from poor planning and lack of resources. If building 100 blogs per month is too overwhelming for you at first, start off with 10 or 20 blogs.

Today she looks much better.

Next, one of my favorite uncles peacefully passed on in his sleep three days ago. He suffered heart attack. It was VERY shocking to me because he was still well last week and he drove us to the hospital last week. So right now, we were really busy at the funeral.

Even though I was very busy, I had an hour of resting time before helping out again and I decided to create this tutorial now, as promised.

As you know, we have been actively creating our network of niche blogs. Now we have hundreds of them. We work as a team and we had developed a more efficient system (after encountering many challenges, failures and difficulties.)

Though to set up the system is very hard, it is quite easy to manage it once it has been set up. I will do my best to explain as clearly as possible. If you have any question, feel free to post in the comment section at the bottom of this post.

In short, there are 5 steps to this system.

1. Niche research – done by me and my partner

2. Site set up and content creation – done by my virtual assistants

3. On-page and off-page seo – done by my virtual assistants

4. Maintenance and tracking of keywords performance – done by me and my partner

5. Selling earning blogs to our customers – done by me and my partner

Now, to start off explaning “Niche research”, here are the 7 steps which we have followed closely to generate hundreds of niche blogs so that we can flip them after they are earning revenue.

In fact, the list of top selling products (known as best sellers) is already available in a big online library. Check out Amazon.com, one of the largest online market places. Search for 10 popular products ideas from Amazon Best Sellers.

You can research on anything that interest you. There are many niches (as shown on the left sidebar) that you can choose from. If you are a cycling enthusiast, you can consider bicycle niche. Or if you love computers, you can explore “Computers & Accessories” niche. Do spend an hour or two to check out some of these niches. You may be surprised by what will interest you.

For this tutorial, let’s work on the cat’s niche. I love cats, so do my 2 year old daughter. I have specially selected this kitty camper based on two criterias. Firstly, I know cat lovers will invest in getting comfortable cat beds for their cats. Secondly, there are over 46 reviews shown and there is a rating of 4.5 given. So this is a pretty popular niche and people are buying them (and reviewing them too.)

Next, once you have selected a niche. Go to Google.com to check if there is any ad being run for this niche. This step is very important. If you see ads, it means there are exisitng advertisers and this niche is profitable such that the sellers are still running ads and paying for them.

This is what you should see if you put in the seed keywordd – “cat beds”. There are ads above and on the right side of the organic search results.

Next, you will need to check the CPC (cost per click) of the keyword to decide if it is worth your time and money to invest in this niche. According to Google, this is what CPC means.

“The cost-per-click (CPC) is the amount you earn each time a user clicks on your ad. The CPC for any ad is determined by the advertiser; some advertisers may be willing to pay more per click than others, depending on what they’re advertising. “

Go to Google Keyword Tool. Make sure you log in with your email and password so that you can view the CPC.

Do make sure your CPC is at least $1.00 and the Global Monthly Searches is more than 1000.

Once you click on “Search”, you will be shown a list of related keywords.

Click on the keyword and click on “Google Search” Check out the “Google Search” of those keywords which are made up of at least 2 words. This is to help you chunk down further and explore any possible micro niche.

You will see the following page. You will also see relevant Google ads.

1. From my experience, root domains are difficult to beat in the results. For example, they are getresponse.com or groupon.com

2. However, if you see subfolder like www.domain.com/subfolder.html, you may be able to outrank the listing. It is important to check if your keyword is part of the url. If it is, it would not be favourable.

3. If you see e-commerce stores like Amazon, they may be easy to beat. Do check if the specific page is not SEO-optimized.

4. Product or service sites specifically selling the items you are searching for are generally hard to displace. If your first 3 results are companies in this niche, look elsewhere.

5. In general, classified sites and forums posts are easy to outrank. Likewise, content sites like article directories are easy to beat.

Let’s analyse the first 3 organic results.

Hidytidy.com has the keyword we are tring to rank in the title, page and the URL.  This is not good.

It is possible to outrank a squidoo lens. You will need to analyse the backlinks linking to this page.

Petsmart.com has a page that is not SEO optimized very well. So beating it looks promising.

And you can see the first three results. This looks good and bad.

Let’s check out the other results. And they look pretty good to us. There are a few pages with the keyword in their titles and that is not good. At the same time, there are some other weak pages. So this is a potential keyword to be added into your list.

Looking at the last result, it is not well optimized for the keyword “cat little box furniture”. And they managed to hit page one. So we will need to check the results on page 2 if their websites are strong or weak competitors.

Next, go to Namecheap.com and find out if the exact match domain is available.

You should go for .com, .net or .org If .com is already taken, go for .net or .org
If these three domains are already taken, you can add a “v” or “x” at the end of the domains.

Carrying out these 7 steps, though defined, are very time consuming. If you follow these steps and if you are a beginner, you may need at least half an hour to find a niche. In actual fact, you will need to generate a list of about 10 to 15  niches to find one domain that may be worth looking into.

Honestly, niche research is one of the most frustrating processes we have to go through. Once, we spent an hour to research on a very promising keyword (with a very high CPC) but it turns out that the other sites are very strong, competition is too tense and the domain is not available.

An easy way out is to outsource this process to virtual assistants. But this step is the most crucial step because finding the wrong keyword can lead to the subsequent failure of the niche blog and you will end up not earning a single cent. If we want to succeed in building profitable niche blogs, we have to take control of this step.

I understand that most of you are holding on to a full time job and some of you will also need to take care of your kids or cookonce you reach home. So you may not have the time to find 10 to 15 niches a day. This will require to spend at least 5 to 7 hours a day.

So what can be done to solve these problems?

One of the solutions will be to find a reliable and fast software which can speed up and automate most of the steps. The best method will be to be able to:
– include the seed keyword and the criteria for the search results (step 4 to step 6)
– generate a list of available exact match domains (step 7)

In fact, we are already using a very powerful third-party paid software that allows us to find 10 to 15 niches under 30 mins. This cuts down our research time by at least 8 times.

Here is a list of the resources we used

– Amazon Best Sellers
– Google.com
– Google Adwords Keyword Tool
– Namecheap.com
– Long Tail Pro

This is what most newbie bloggers will say “I have spent weeks and months working on my site and there is not even a single visitor to my site. I am toasted!”

If your site is not ranked for any keyword, then there won’t be any traffic or visitor going to your site.

However, this problem can be easily overcome by using this particular method which we teach all our students.

This method is called Exact Match Domains. (EMD)

After the Penguin algorthim update, EMD are still ranking very nicely indeed in Google’s search. In most instances, most of our domains are ranking in Google’s top ten for their related keyword phrase within a few days.

Once these sites are ranked well and traffic starts to flow in, their earning potential is HUGE!

Let’s work out the Maths.

If a EMD site is making $10 a month and you own 300 of such niche blogs, you will be making a nice comfortable figure of $3000 a month doing nothing after you have set up your sites to run on autopilot.

And now, you might be feeling worried because you know setting up 300 blogs is not an easy task…Not to worry, here is the simple system we have created for our niche blogs project.

Step 1: Research on suitable exact match domains using Keyword Canine.

Step 2: Buy the domains using Namecheap.com

Step 3: Generate 1 Primary keyword and 4 Secondary keywords for each domain.
1 Primary keyword is for the main article of 800 words.
1 Secondary keyword is for the other articles which are about 500 words each.

Step 4: Allocate the content generation to your writers. (or if you enjoy writing and can write well and fast, you can do it.)

Step 5: Once the content is ready, the domains will be set up and the content will be sent to your virtual assistant to have the domains set up.

Step 6: Once the niche site is set up, another virtual assistant will take over the on-page and off-page seo.

Rinse and repeat the steps and you will soon have your 300 money-making niche blogs within a few months.

So in this blog post, I want to share with you the big picture of 2 niche business ideas in 2012.
(I will also be sharing some very specific numbers so you can work on your first blog or improve your blogs right after reading this blog post.)

1. Small Niche Sites

In case you are wondering what a small niche site is, this is what a small niche site is made up of.
– 1 Primary article consisting of 800 words.
– 5 Secondary articles consisting of 500 words
– 1 Contact me page
– 1 Privacy Policy page
– 1 Sitemap

Objective: To rank one keyword of the Primary article on first page of Google and to earn money through Adsense or selling affilitate products in Amazon or Clickbank.

Keyword criteria:
1000 or more exact match
$1 or more CPC (for Adsense)

What you can use a niche site for:

– To flip it for a higher price. Normally, the selling price is at least 20x its earning value. If it has an earning revenue of $50 per month, it’s selling price should be around $1000 (50 x 20) Sometimes, the selling price may be higher if you are selling to small medium companies which are in the same niche as your blog.

If your blog is in drug rehabilitation niche, a drug rehabilitation centre may be interested in buying your site.

– To grow your blog further. You can continue to add more articles, capture opt-ins to grow your subscribers list and to build a social community such as creating a Facebook fan page. Naturally, with more subscribers, traffic and probably more revenue, your site’s value will definitely increase. And your small niche site will grow into a very big website called an authority site.

2. Authority site

As mentioned, authority sites are very big sites with lots of content. However, having lots of content is not enough. It must have good quality content so that your readers will return to your site. With higher traffic, you can consider selling advertising space in the form of banner ad or text link ad in the blogroll or in the content.

Objective: To build and grow it into a mega monster so that it can bring you a monthly stream of passive income either through selling of ad space or selling products (affiliate or personal)

Here are some of the questions:
– Where do I get prospects?
– How do I know what kind of services to sell?
– How can I get my first customer?
– Where can I learn about offline consutling?
– How do I make money from it?

During the past few months of “disappearing”, I was also helping out some of my students in their offline consultation business and they have successfully clinched their first projects with many more to come.

Here is exactly what my students did and this is something you can easily follow too, if you are looking for fast cashflow.

Step 2. While going through the 5 days training, think of your direct network and those people who you know need online services.

For example, one of your friends, who owns a shop selling shoes, is keen to get an e-commerce website. Or one of your existing customers need a website to promote his home interior design service.

What you should do is to list down at least 10 names and the type of services they will require.
For example.

James – setting up a website
Susan – setting up a Facebook fan page
Travis – search engine optimisation service
John – redesign of his website

What this will do for you is to open up a list of business opportunity with the people You Know. And what matter most is they trust you and will more likely do business with you.

Step 3. Once your list is up, contact your prospects within 24 hours. Drop them an email like this.

“Hi James, this is John here.

How have you been?

I have recently started an offline consulting business and wondering if you know of anyone who will need more online exposure or will need a new website.

Thanks,
John”

You realise that in the email, you are not asking for business directly from James. It is less intimidating and intrusive. You are in fact askinf for referrals. And if James know of anyone who needs your service, he will know who to refer to. Yes, that person is YOU. And knowing James may need your service, he will know who to contact. And yes again, that person is YOU.

Step 4. The next step is to do consistent follow up.

When you are new and are just building your customer base, you will not likely have a proven track record. So you need to be genuine in helping your prospects out. Offer free consultation and show your prospects how much you know and care about his business.

However, having said this, not all your prospects will become your paying customers. Maybe only 10 to 20%. And this means that out of 10 prospects, only 1 to 2 will become your customers.

So the trick here is to keep on contacting more prospects.

Congratulation! Once you have reached step 4, you are and should be making some money.

When setting up a business for your offline consulting, it is important to remind yourself not to work yourself to death.

Many small business offline consultants that I know are working 12 to 18 hours a day to fulfill orders. They range from designing blogs to building backlinks for their customers’ blogs. For every project that they have completed, they take on another way and continue working to help their customers.

There is nothing wrong with this system, only if you really working and would rather spend time working than travelling or doing other things you enjoy more.

In today’s blog post, I would like to share with you a business system which can bring you passive income every month without you doing much work.

Well, perhaps you need to oversee the system and tweak it to be more efficient so you have even lesser work.

In the offline consulting niche, one has to understand that the purpose is to meet the need of your customers who are the business owners. Let’s narrow down and I personally prefer to work with small business owners mainly for these two reasons.

– Small business owners are either a one-man team or has a few staff and they can make decisions faster.
– Small business owners have many many tasks to handle daily and they are always more than delighted to have you coming in to help them and most of them really appreciate your help.

One of the needs of a small business owners is tight budget and they lack IT expertise. Even if they know how to set up a blog or site, they will not have time to do it because they have other prioritites such as fulfilling orders for their own customers.

So, imagine this, what if you can provide a service like this
– ready made site with ready content
– all you need to do is to change the contact to that of your customer
– you can help upload the images for your customers
– your customer can rent your blog and decide after a few months if having online presence works for him.

In my coaching, I have taught my student this method and he ended up making US$8000 in residual monthly income within 30 days. So anyone can easily do it, including you.

So what should you prepare now, even if you want to test it just for the next 30 days.

Remember now is the testing phase and you got to keep your cost low.

Next, you can use free WordPress themes. There are tons of them. All you need to do is to Google “cake + free wordpress themes” if you are targeting home bakers. If you are targeting dentists, Google “dentist + free wordpress themes”.

Set up a blog and add about 2 to 3 pages so that there is content on your blog.
If you want to add more pictures, use stock free images.

Now, let’s work out the Maths.

Renting a blog at $100/ month with all the following services
– changing of contacts
– adding customer’s content such as text and images

To make $5000 a month, all you need to find 50 customers.

Here are some places you can find customers
– Yellow Pages
– Chamber of Commerce
– Groupon
– Business Directories

Next, changing contacts and uploading content are considered as eazy low level jobs and you can hire
a part time freelancer at about $400/ month to do it for you.

So you will still have $4600 passive month every month and there is no need for you to do much work.

During these few months, we have been working with an inner circle on the fastest way to make money online using offline methods.

It was not easy. Half of the group quit by the end of the 2 months’ intensive training. Those who chose to continue, had made their work-from-home dreams come true. I am not saying you can make so much till you can retire and live a carefree life. (This is our eventual goal and should be yours too.)

Here is what one of our students did:

After having attended our training, he approached fish mongers in the markets. (This is a pretty interesting way to identify your leads!) He chose his potential customers based on the following criterias.

– He owns more than one fish stalls in the same market or in other places
– He has workers running his stalls for him
– He distributes fresh fish to restaurants
– He is interested to expand his business

Before my student started to poach his clients, he did some keyword research for Google.com in his homeland and he found some keywords he can easily ranked for. He is so confident that he felt that he should take at most a month to rank all the chosen keywords for this niche.

With his research done, he approached the clients who he has narrowed down to.
Out of 10 customers he approached, 3 said “yes” and 2 said “maybe”.

Out of the 3 “yes”, he sold them a $1000 a month package which include
– site set up and design
– creation of squeeze page and contact me form
– search engine optimisation (SEO)
– website monthly maintenance (such as adding of new photos, contents, offers and so on)

Since the keywords targeted were easy to rank in search engines due to low competition, his customers got at least $5000 worth of orders every week from restaurant owners who found them on the web.

Let’s take a quick look at the summary of the customer’s experience:
– $1000 investment
– $5000 of sales every week made within a month (500% ROI!!!)

Outcome:
The customer paid my student 6 months upfront so he can lock in the deal of $1000 per month.
And with the testimonials and proven track records, he increased the price of his package from $1000 to $2000 and approached the other 2 “maybes” and converted them to “yes”.

Now this is what he is making from his small but loyal pool of customers who trust him alot:
– US$3000 from the first 3 customers
– US$4000 from the two customers who had signed up later

Total income per month: US$7000 (which is much more than the average income of most profession)

To come to think about it, this model is a very simple model and anyone, including YOU can easily grasp and apply within a week or two.

You know some basic internet marketing skills.
You know where your clients are.
You know what to offer them.
You sell to them and most importantly, you get paid!

Many bloggers have armed their blogs with a Facebook fan page and this is very powerful. Blogging coupled with social networking not only gives you traffic to your blog but it also allows you to communicate with your supporters and eventually turning them into paying loyal customers.

With the existence of fan page, blogging has been taken to another level, just like this blog.

You can either build a base of fans in Facebook and build a blog providing content to serve their needs or build a blog with lots of great content and build a fan base who loves your content.

Being able to competently use Facebook fan page to blog, brand and make money is the IN thing right now. I did a last check and Facebook fan page managers earn between 60USD to 660USD per day, depending on the job scopes such as posting updates, communicating with fans, monitoring, running campaigns and designing of fan pages.
