Nerdcore Rising

Thanks to netflix friend Kristin I have been turned on to a movie I had never heard of. Nerdcore Rising a documentary based on it's creator MC Frontalot and the music he has been "preaching." So far I have gotten thru 20min of the documentary (sorry my kids have not let me finish) I like what I see so far, very interesting... Here is a example a rap on Darwin's Origin of the Species.

From iPhone/iPod main screen:

settings --> tweetie > advance: Multiple Accounts must be ON

then

open tweetie on the top left > Accounts > Edit (you account) --> Advance --> Ping.fm

then get a ping.fm/key

I'm a Parent Now

So for the last 2 months there have been 2 TV shows I have been waiting for, nay dying for .. Fox's the Fringe and most recently NBC's Heroes. I feel lucky I got into these shows when I did Fringe happened pre-twins and Heroes came in and around me being with the twins. When Fringe ended last season and I found out I had to wait 45 days for the new season i was bummed but what could i do. I waited and waited and waited. The day finally came my wife and I sat down with the twins in arm to watch our show, the minute it started so did they.

After 20+ minutes of trying to listen to the show as well as calm them, feed them and change them we said blah and shut the tv off. (we figured we will catch it online later , we still haven't). Now Heroes I had somehow avoided seeing, hearing or knowing anything about the first 3 seasons of this show until I signed up for netflix. They had heroes on instant viewing, I burned through all 3 seasons in less then 1 month. So I eagerly awaited season 4's 2hr premier, the day finally showed up and yet again the twins would have none of it. They made so much of a fuss that instead of watching my show which I told my wife nothing would take me from it. To watching the veggitales... But the glee on the twins faces made my sorrow all wash away.

As the title says ... "I'm a parent now"

Good Lord Apple? - Trying to do away with the iPhone

So the rumor is now the next round of ipod's will include a built in camera.. ok so let's see

app store - check
camera - check
email - check
web browsing - check

etc.

What are you exactly going for here? An iPhone Lite without calling it such? Is this Apple's way of making our beloved iPhone's obsolete? People will argue this will give you the iPhone without the contract. To that I say "meh" my wife and I have had iPhone's since June, only issue I shake my fist at AT&T about is the high to the sky prices they charge. Service I have had has been excellent. Anyway... I don't see the point to making a competing product to something that is doing so well for you...

Maybe they spoke to Microsoft?

What's Next?

Rather than just sit here at night and lament not working right now I am considering going back to school. I already have a bachelors degree in MIS / CS .. I don't know if I could muster the time nor patience for a Master's Degree. I am pondering what road to take, I wish to stay within the IT field but consider the amount of work being outsourced I am wondering if it's worth it.

My wife has volunteered to tend to the twins alone so I could go to school at night to get myself moving ahead in these times. While I love her for it I can't leave her to tend to our little munchkins alone. I looked at Phoenix University Online and their programs, a few associate programs in different Technology areas. I am considering programming, a subject I have long feared but must ultimately face.

My question to all of you is would a secondary degree be valued in these times? I know my first degree didn't do much for me. Personal experience got me the jobs I have held over the last 10yrs. Would love some feedback.

Talk about Wow

The kids are almost 4 months old, and as the old adage goes "time flies" it really does and I can see that. My kids are getting huge and learning more each day, Emilia is now even trying to roll over. But that's not the point of this post. I have come to the realization that since my family has grown we need more room. Now me being out of a job for last few months pretty much tosses the idea of buying a home. So I figured we can move to a bigger apartment, which I know of atleast one about 10min from here. Nearly double the space for the same price. I figured that's it our golden ticket before we can buy a house. I made a phone call to see a 3 bedroom, 2 bath apartment 1500square feet in size.
Once that was done I turned my focus to our current lease that had just renewed mid may. (by the way, we had to renew twins had just been born and wifey wasn't moving anywhere ) So guess what the lease had to be broken, the twins are here now and we need out. I called the office and explained my situation plus several issues I have had maintenance wise that made me want out. They said that wouldn't be a problem but here are there terms.

60 days notice
Pay Rent September 1st stay whole month
Pay Rent October 1st stay whole month

leave end of October, and once we were no longer in there systems we had 15 days to come up with rent for November and December, as a penalty for breaking our lease. I was blown away, yes that's probab in our lease i signed but I figured some leeway could be given to us(false hope, I know). I sadly told the woman on the line to forget it all and we would sit tight for the rest of the year.. She just said sorry and hung up.. My kids will have to wait till atleast Birthday #1 to move out.

A Schedule FINALLY!

Hey it's been a few days I apologize I have been otherwise occupied. So the twins finally have a schedule going and here it is...
Awake at 6am for a feeding (they still feed every 3hrs)

nap at 10:30 for about 1-2.5hrs

nap at 5:15pm for about 1hr

bed time for joshua around 9-9:30pm sleeps until around 4am for a feeding and back to bed till 6am

bed time for emilia around 11-11:30pm sleeps until 2am for a feeding and back to bed till 6am ... took them long enough!! :)

Looking, searching and exploring

I have been in some way shape or form involved with the IT world for the last decade. Whether it was fixing a broken spreadsheet or calculating visitor trends for a huge e-commerce site. Computers has always been it for me.
That is until now, my kids have brought me to a new chapter in my life where I don't know if what I want is computers anymore. I find myself at all hours as my title says Looking, searching and exploring deep within myself to see where I go from here. Prior to this past May the family I had crafted within the last 5yrs of marriage was my wife, me, 2 cats and some dogs. For reasons I won't delve into the dogs had to go and all that was left was 2 cats and us. Not much and if it needed to be disrupted for a new life change it could be and quite quickly.
Not so now, every thought, every idea must be thought, re-thought and yes thought again. How it will affect my kids now and in the long run, must think of family members and how they will be affected not seeing the twins. A lot to consider, I am still looking for some kind of employment but unfortunately due to other circumstances certain conditions must be met for that to work as well.
My resume screams IT but I know I can do more a lot more the chance needs to be found however.

10yrs Later

I have been doing IT in some way shape or form for the last decade. Some say the resume I have built is impressive, meh I say times change and so do people. Through circumstances I have covered in this blog I currently am out of work, and at home taking care of my kids. I am looking to branch out from my IT persona to anything else out there, from a plain old desk job to I don't know advertising. Crossing my fingers and hoping for the best.
