J.C. Hart is pleased to welcome two more new Associates to the team!

Carly Nance is our new Leasing Specialist for Austin Springs. Carly is an Ohio native and a recent graduate from the Univeristy of Akron where she received a degree in Exercise Science/Sports Management. While working with several sports organizations on campus, she also was a member of the Sinclair Community College Women's Basketball team. Carly's favorite job so far has been working as a student assistant for the Akron football team. She is a real competitor and is always ready for a challenge! We welcome her to Austin Springs to join forces with Marilee, Tony and Ted!

We welcome Mike Craig as our new Maintenance Supervisor for The Legacy. Mike has years ofexperience in both residential and commercial maintenance and construction so he will fit in nicely as the Legacy draws down from construction and goes completely into operations. He had his own construction business in Kentucky for ten years before moving back to Indiana where he ran the maintenance operations for Indiana Wesleyan University. Mike had initially inquired at the Legacy as a place to call home. Now it will be both work and home as he joins Deb, Jade and JaMarcus on the Legacy team!

Stonebridge held a resident event on August 18th to help raise funds for the Susan G. Komen foundation. Outback Steakhouse provided the food, free of charge, and in lieu of charging their residents for dinner, they asked for donations to support Komen. They raised $419!!! Isn't that outstanding? Thank you, Stonebridge staff, thank you Outback Steakhouse, and thank you, Stonebridge residents!! You rock!

J.C. Hart Company is welcoming three new Associates this week!

Lauren Johnston, Leasing Specialist, who actually started last week, hails from Kentucky where she went to high school and then earned her real estate license. She was a realtor for a couple of years before moving to Indiana. Lauren is a very positive person and really enjoyed building relationships with her customers and finding them their perfect home. She will fit in quite well at Oak Lake, working with Holli, Tim and David, where they are all experts in building good relationships with their residents

Charlsie Sexson, Leasing Specialist, was referred to J.C. Hart by Laura Riggen! Charlsie has lived in Avon all her life and is a recent Ball State graduate with a degree in Hospitality & Food Management in the School of Travel and Tourism. She has recent experience in food service and catering but she is anxious to use her sales abilities in property management. Charlsie, known to have never met a stranger, is excited to be joining Kelly, Danny and Graydon and continue the excellence at Linden Square!

Beth Petrow, Community Manager, is going to be a familiar name for those Associates who were with J.C. Hart in the mid-to-late nineties! Beth worked at Grassy Creek and helped oversee the renovation and conversion of that property to a market rate community. Beth left J.C. Hart to work for the ministry in an administrative role for the Overseas Council as a Partnership Liaison. Beth has decided to return to property management and we couldn't be happier that she will be leading the team at BayShore with newbies Laura, Brandon, and her ol' friend, Ed Keown!

In the meantime, JaMarcus Fanning has made the move from the westside (Linden Square) to join the Legacy crew in Carmel. He is very excited to team with Deb and Jade to help get Legacy leased up!

We welcome Lauren, Charlsie and Beth (back) to the team and wish them and JaMarcus the best of success in their new communities!

Westfield, IN is continuing to grow and J.C. Hart is looking to be a part of that growth. As outlined in an article in the IBJ, The Estridge Cos. of Carmel are planning a large mixed-use development of 1,500 acres that could include a J.C. Hart Apartment Community as a component. As more news develops we'll be sure to share it here on our blog.

As our portfolio grows, so too does our list of new Associates! This week we welcomed two new Associates to the J.C. Hart team. Laura Riggen has joined the BayShore team as a Leasing Specialist. Laura earned a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations from Indiana State in 2007 and has lived in Wisconsin since she graduated, working in property management. She and her husband just moved back to Indiana and she is very excited about the opportunities at BayShore. Laura is a Colts fan and her family participates in the Race for the Cure every year so she is fitting right in! She is fired up with ideas of how to bring some new traffic to BayShore so we welcome her enthusiasm!

We are pleased to announce our new Manager to lead the lease up of The District at Saxony is Sherry Heck. She, too, has a degree in Public Relations from Ball State. Sherry has worked in property management for over seven years, but for the past several years she has worked in new homes sales for C.P. Morgan. Sherry has a close personal relationship with one of our long-term Associates (AJ!) so she has been well aware of our company culture and was thrilled to become a part of it. We are thrilled to have her on board to lead the Saxony team. (Rumor has it there is a video of Sherry portraying Cindy Brady floating around somewhere on the internet! Might be worth checking out!)

Joining Sherry at Saxony is Amanda Stevenson, Assistant Manager, previously at Pebble Brook Village. Sherry and Amanda are already underway, preparing to move into the leasing trailer and ready to start taking those prospective phone calls!

Along with these new Associates and Associates moves, we are very pleased to welcome back Meg Merriman. She is still working part-time, but on a much more regular basis! She has joined the team at Linden Square and has also helped out at BayShore while we were looking for Laura! We are so happy to have Meg back with us. And we are happy to announce that Stonebridge's groundman, Israel Rangel has become a full-time J.C. Hart Associate, as of June. Israel has been working hard and is a great addition to the strong Stonebridge maintenance team.

New Associates On Board!

J.C. Hart has welcomed four new Associates to the team in the month of May!

Jessica Reeves, NALP, is a new Assistant Manager at Stonebridge. Jessica just graduated from Ball State with a degree in Residental Property Management. She worked part-time as a leasing consultant for another property management company while she was in school. While going to school and working she also performed volunteer work in the community, most recently with Muncie Mission and St. Vincent DePauw.

Jocelyn Goodmon has joined the Bloomington team as a Leasing Specialist for The Crest and City Flats. Jocelyn was initially attracted to J.C. Hart because of the professionalism and care for fellow Associates exhibited when she was looking at The Crest for an apartment. She has just earned a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Indiana University and teaches private voice lessons, which she loves.

Brandon Brown is our new Maintenance Technician at BayShore! Brandon originally hails from Montana where he went to high school, but he has worked in property management maintenance in Indiana for the last several years. He was referred to J.C. Hart by Danny Lewis. One of the funniest things that has ever happened to him on the job was while he was working on a roof and a thirty pound racoon jumped out when they pulled up one of the boards! Scared him and his co-worked half to death! Hopefully he won't have any run-ins with racoons at BayShore!

Amanda Mance has joined the Pebble Brook Village team as a Leasing Specialist. She just graduated from I.U. with a degree in Criminal Justice! She has worked as an Intern in Washington D.C. for Congressman Timothy Johnson, and also for the McLean County State's Attorney's Office in Bloomington, Illinois. She enjoys working on a team, hands-on, and working with customers face-to-face, so she should find the environment of J.C. Hart a great place to be!

We welcome these new Associates and look forward to all their contributions to the team. Best of luck to Jessica, Jocelyn, Brandon and Amanda!!

J.C. Hart learned last Thursday night that we placed 13th (out of 28 qualifying companies) in the small/medium sized company category in the Best Places to Work in Indiana 2010. This was the second year that J.C. Hart has participated in the Indiana Chamber of Commerce's Best Places to Work survey and we are excited about our improved ranking! The awards were presented in a ceremony at the Indiana Roof Ballroom. Sheila Wolter, Director of Human Resources, accepted our award from Indiana Chamber President Kevin Brinegar on behalf of all our Associates. We thank all of our associates for helping make J.C. Legacy Towns & Flats Now Open and Leasing

This month J.C. Hart Company submitted a letter of intend to build 217 apartments as part of the master-planned Lawrence Village at the Fort. The apartment community will be part of the 90-acre final phase of a decade-long redevelopment of the former Fort Harrison Army base. This was originally mentioned in an IBJ article about J.C. Hart Company's $100 million investment in new apartment community developments in Hamilton County. The IBJ is now reporting more about the Fort Harrison development as well, and the company is excited to continue our growth around the Indianapolis metropolitan area.

Support for Haiti

Tragic events can take a toll on any community. As a company that provides homes, we understand how important some of the basic needs are in life that we sometimes take for granted. The earthquake that shook Haiti just a week ago has taken away many basic needs of the people of Haiti, and they need all the support they can get.

There are a number of ways to donate to the relief effort, and we encourage our fellow J.C. Hart associates, apartment community residents, and vendors to please aid in the effort if you can. J.C. Hart has pledged to donate $1000 to the American Red Cross relief effort. That represents $10 per associate that works for our company.

With a quick text message you can also support the relief effort. Text "Haiti" to 90999 and a $10 donation will be added to your phone bill.

You can also visit www.RedCross.org and donate to the efforts through their website, or to support the Indianapolis Red Cross and their efforts go to www.indyredcross.org.

2009 Indiana Apartment Association Awards

Congratulations to the J.C. Hart team on another successful year at the IAA Prodigy Awards! We were fortunate to be recognized with awards in several categories again this year. Two of our communities won awards – Stonebridge received the award for Best Floorplan over 1100 Square Feet (Communities 1-10 Years in Age) and The Waverley was awarded Best Decorated Model 200 Units or Less. Outstanding job!

We nominated three Associates to represent J.C. Hart in the Awards of Excellence. Thank you to Fred Helmer, Lydia Miller, and Tony Templin for representing us as our Maintenance Supervisor of the Year, Leasing Associate of the Year and Maintenance Technician of the Year. You did us proud.

The J.C. Hart Company was the recipient of two additional awards, the first one being Best Corporate Website for our “Home is J.C. Hart” theme, unique web address and resident portal. The second award was the distinction of Management Company of the Year. What an incredible compliment to our Associates and the hard work you do every day. New Manager for North Haven

We are pleased to announce that Ashley Benner, CAM, has been promoted to be the Community Manager at North Haven. She is a graduate of Ball State University’s Residential Property Management Program and recently rejoined our team after leaving NTS as the Manager of Castle Creek Apartments. This leaves a vacancy in the Assistant Manager position at North Haven so we are officially posting this position today and will close the posting on November 20th. Please contact Dennis Funkhouser if you are interested or have someone to refer for the position.

New Staff Accountant

J.C. Hart is very pleased to announce a new Staff Accountant has been hired. Kristen Elling began this week and will be training along side Rich Hamilton for the next couple of months to learn the ropes of her new position. Kristen is a Ball State graduate and formerly worked for Kite Realty Group, which is a retail developer and property management company. She was a Staff Accountant for two years with Kite before they had a reduction in force. Kristen and her ferret Zoe live with her family—each of whom also own pets. She says it’s an interesting place to be! We welcome Kristen to the J.C. Hart family and wish her great success as a member of the Accounting Department.

We are pleased to announce some internal "moves". Kelly Kichler has come off her part-time status and is back to being a full-time Manager at Oak Lake. The opening became available when Holli Moore went on maternity leave. Kelly is excited to be back in a full-time position and we are happy to have her!

Other exciting news is that Amanda Stevenson has been promoted to Assistant Manager at Pebble Brook Village! Amanda has been doing a great job in her first year at J.C. Hart and has been working hard to become an excellent leaser and to learn the administrative duties necessary to become an Assistant Manager. Congratulations to both Kelly and Amanda. We wish them great success in their new positions!

Jade Williams, our Assistant Manager for The Legacy, attended a Chamber luncheon this week and was able to meet the Honorable Mayor James Brainard. Mayor Brainard was pleased to meet an Associate of J.C. Hart as John Hart has been a solid supporter of the Mayor for many years.

New Maintenance Team Members

The Property Management Division has added two new Maintenance Technicians in the past week. We are pleased to introduce them to you.

David Adkins has joined the team at Oak Lake at Crooked Creek and is living on site. David is a single guy who has a good mechanical aptitude, loves working hands on and enjoys fishing! David was attracted to J.C. Hart because of our commitment to customer service. He likes helping people and interacting with residents.

Jeff Gardner is now a member of the Grassy Creek team. Jeff is married with two children and makes his commute from Terre Haute! He says it's only a 52 minute drive, on average! He will also have an apartment at Grassy Creek to use when he is on call or there is inclement weather. Jeff has worked the past several years in multifamily maintenance and is in search of his best job ever. He's hoping J.C. Hart will be that job!

Both David and Jeff started on Friday, October 9th. We welcome them enthusiastically and wish them the best of success at their new "homes"!

The IAA Annual Multifamily State Convention is right around the corner and with it will be the Prodigy Awards announced at the annual President's Dinner. Along with the various community awards J.C. Hart will be vying for, we will have four Associates who will be representing us proudly and up for awards themselves. These four individuals will be going through the interview process this Wednesday, October 7th, and we want to wish them the best of luck in their interviews. Lisa Fuller, our 2008 Community Manager of the Year, is one of the nominees for the Grace McFadden Manager of the Year. Lisa led Oak Lake in 2008 and is currently leading her team at Grassy Creek with consistency and dedication and we know she is a worthy candidate.

Fred Helmer is nominated for the Alberto Covarrubius Maintenance Supervisor of the Year award. Fred, who was our 2008 Maintenance Supervisor of the Year, attacks each day with a plan, but is always willing to drop what he is doing to assist another community.

Lydia Miller, our 2008 Leasing Associate of the Year, will be up for the Leasing Professional of the Year award. Lydia, who had 74 leases in 2008, is one of our top leasers again this year.

Tony Templin, our 2008 Maintenance Tech of the Year, is up for the same IAA award. He makes prompt, professional maintenance service a top priority at Grassy Creek and will represent J.C. Hart well in this Prodigy Award category.

We wish them the best of success in their interviews and in November when the Prodigy Awards will be announced.
