During the American era, Taytay ceased being Palawan’s capital, and its administrative boundary was reduced by approximately 500,000 hectares upon the creation of the Municipality of El Nido in 1916.

Taytay is a 1st class municipality, with a population of 61,991, according to the 2007 census.

The municipality comprises of barangays or towns running from South to North from Tinitian to Ilian. Except for New Cuyo and a few other locations inland, towns are connected by beautiful beaches running along its shoreline.

It has a population of 51,084 people, according to the 2007 census report.
