Jason was elected as the Member of Parliament for Colne Valley with 29,482 votes, the most ever for a candidate in the Colne Valley constituency, giving him a majority of 5,103, the biggest in Kirklees.

“I’d like to say a huge thank to everyone who voted me and the Conservatives and to my fantastic campaign team, I am so proud of our positive community based campaign,” said Jason. “It’s a great honour to be representing our area again and once I’ve set up an office and recruited staff, I look forward to being your Local Champion here and in Westminster.”

Jason needs just a few hundred extra votes to beat Corbyn’s hard left MP at the General Election on 12th December 2019.

Getting Brexit done by 31 October– no ifs, no buts.

Making sure Britain is prepared, whatever the circumstances.

Making sure people start seeing the £33.9 billion cash and the additional £1.8 billion committed in their frontline NHS services.

Hiring 20,000 new police officers and giving them the powers to keep our streets safe.

Properly funding our schools so that every child gets more guaranteed minimum funding, regardless of where they live.

Delivering a strong economy to fund the public services we all rely on.

Jason selected to stand again in Colne Valley

Jason has been selected as the Conservative Party’s Parliamentary candidate for Colne Valley following a selection meeting of members at the Conservative Club in Netherton.

“I am honoured that local members have backed me to fight the Colne Valley constituency once again. After taking a year break I was overwhelming with the support from local folk of all backgrounds wanting me to stand again

I am proud that me and my team have increased the Conservative vote at successive General Elections from 20,440 in 2010 to 27,903 in 2017.

There is little love here for Corbyn and McDonnell’s hard left politics of hate and division which the current MP has tied herself to.

I am under no illusions though that we face a huge challenge but this is where I live, work and spend my leisure time so I am determined to get the best for our area.

I will fight for the Colne and Holme Valleys and Lindley along with Huddersfield.

Huddersfield is at a crossroads and we need to make sure our area doesn’t miss out on the opportunities from devolution and major transport investments. We need to turbo charge the Northern Powerhouse and tap into Government funding streams to support innovation and enterprise.

It’s only by embracing enterprise, innovation and entrepreneurship that we can create the quality jobs for local people. We’ve all seen the chaos in Venezuela from Socialism. The mayhem of Marxism is not the answer.

I’m frustrated by what’s been going on down at Westminster. Kirklees voted to Leave and we must honour that vote. No fudge, the delay is damaging the economy. It’s not my vote right now, local MPs must deliver. After campaigning in the local elections I saw that both Labour and Tory votes were down in the constituency, Labour losing Golcar and falling back in other wards. I will work hard with my team to get back the trust and support of those that were tempted away by the smaller parties.

In an era of corrosive cynicism and rabid populism I will stand up for our area with decency, integrity and community spirit.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

It’s time for an update but firstly can I just say a huge thank you to all the local people that keep contacting me and coming up to me thanking me and my team for all our work during the time I was your local MP. As I always knew the good folk of Huddersfield and the Colne and Holme Valleys don’t care much for petty partisan politics but just care about where we live, work and play. Thank you too for all those who keep asking if I’ll stand again. I’m enjoying a break from front line politics but as the saying goes, never say never.

I’m now a year into my role as the Head of Public Affairs at the award winning University of Huddersfield. My job is to strengthen the University’s relationship with opinion formers and policy makers so I’m spending plenty of time down in Westminster banging the drum not just for our University but for our town and Yorkshire in general.

I’m honoured to have been appointed as a Director of the Mid Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, supporting and representing our local business community. I’m delighted to be a Director of Holme Valley based fairandfunky making a positive difference in the world. I’ve been sitting on award panels for the One Community Foundation Trust awarding grants to local charities and community groups. I’m also supporting our local Honley High School and enjoying supporting the local community and events. I continue to take part in the monthly Honley village tidy up and enjoyed the recent Honley Lights switch on (picture below) and the annual Christmas Street fair.

I’m still cheering on Huddersfield Town in the Premier League with my season ticket in the Kilner Bank and I also managed to get to some Huddersfield Giants games too. My former Parliamentary team have moved on to pastures new but we all keep in touch and we see each other regularly. I hope to see you out and about soon and thank you once again for the amazing support you continue to give me.

GREAT MEMORIES AND A POSITIVE FUTURE

The Colne Valley Conservative Association are about to start the process of selecting their Parliamentary candidate for the next General Election. I won’t be putting my name forward.

I relished the challenge of representing the Colne and Holme Valleys and Lindley in Westminster as your local Member of Parliament from 2010 to 2017. I’m really proud of everything me and my wonderful team achieved for our area from our successful Jobs Fairs to being a strong voice for our community in the House of Commons which sometimes meant voting against the party whip.

As I approach my 50th birthday (‘he doesn’t look it!’ I hear you all cry) I’m lucky to be able to reflect on 3 completely different roles in my life so far. From 10 years as an RAF Officer, to 10 years at ITV Yorkshire as a broadcast journalist and most recently 10 years as a local politician (3 years as candidate & 7 years as an MP). I’m now really enjoying getting stuck into my new role as the Head of Public Affairs at the award winning University of Huddersfield. I’m enjoying still being involved in the community I love from litter picks in Honley to supporting local charities. I’m continuing to support the excellent Let’s Save HRI community campaign and I’m really enjoying cheering on Town in the Premier League whilst being able to go to midweek games too. I’m particularly enjoying lots of quality time with my daughters.

I look forward to giving my full support to whoever is selected as the Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Colne Valley and fully expect them to be successful at the next election.

Finally, I’d like to thank once again my wonderful team, we are still good friends and in regular contact. I’m also very grateful for all the wonderful well wishes and messages of support I’ve received since the General Election. Please come and say hello when you see me out and about – I’m not going anywhere!

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR

I’d like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year. I’ll be spending the Festive period with family and friends at home in Honley.

2017 has certainly been an eventful year with plenty of highs and lows.

I was thrilled to be at Wembley to see Huddersfield Town clinch promotion to the Premier League after a thrilling penalty shoot out win. But just a week or so later I lost my Colne Valley seat at the General Election despite getting thousands of more votes and increasing my vote share from 2015. I’m proud of the positive way my team and I represented our area over the last 7 years.

I’m delighted to be now working as the Head of Public Affairs at the University of Huddersfield. I’m loving cheering on Town in the Premier League and will be at the Stoke and Burnley games. I’ve joined the One Community Charity Trust, continuing to support local charities, still volunteering in my home village of Honley, continuing to support the community based Let’s Save HRI campaign and I was honoured to be invited to join the Friend to Friend Christmas Party in Holmfirth (pictured).

Thank you for all the continuing messages of goodwill. Thank you to my fab team for their continued friendship and support. Watch this space for exciting news in 2018!

Holmfirth Food & Drink Festival

Jason enjoyed the 12^th annual Holmfirth Food and Drink Festival which attracted an estimated 40,000 visitors over the weekend.

A huge thank you to Festival Organiser Jamie and the team of volunteers who helped make the Festival such a big success.

In the evening Jason enjoyed compering an evening of music at Holmfirth Civic Hall with the Hade Edge Band and Honley Ladies Choir. The concert was fundraising for the League of Friends of Holme Valley Memorial Hospital.
