Great post! The "Waiting on Reply" label is brilliant.

Personally, though... I don't even try to prevent things from slipping through the cracks. I do my best to keep track of things. And if things get lost along the way? Well, if they're important, they'll resurface on their own.

Heh. This inspires ME to post something along the lines of "the art of letting things slip through the cracks." =)

Just found a better way. In Thunderbird 3 you can do a saved search. No folders necessary. Much like a "smart folder." Just have two saved searches on for Action Needed and one for Waiting for Reply. You could even have an email with both "states" O.o

@Eric and @Mike

At least using Imap in Thunderbird you could move them between Action Needed and Waiting For Reply. I'm not much help though, I'm an email-in-the-browser guy :D

You can use filters to move things around using tags. The multiple inbox doesn't make any since in Thunderbird. Just have the filter move the email to a folder once it gets the tag. You could probably set the filter up to strip the other tag when you do a "move."

I'm currently exploring a process for handling my email. I just nuked my inbox. Sorted everything into either archive, on my tasks list, or trash. I think this label system is something I could utilize.

Excellent idea to use Multiple inboxes to show your "action" and "wait" folders! I wonder if there's a way to do this in Thunderbird 3...

Thanks for the tips!
