This is the latest victim of fake hard disk in Malaysia recently. It happens in the latest PC Fair 2012 in KL few months ago. Though its quite old news and I think its good to spread the awareness so that people out there should be more careful to shop safely.

The victim is lure by an attractive price of this hard disk. From the receipt it shows that the price is quite cheaper than current RRP price for a normal 500GB hard disk. RM50 cheaper.

I think its the buyer mistake who didn’t have it test on the spot. But who can blame it right. Who’s gonna test the hard disk on the spot when you know its a brand new and you’ve been comfort with one year warranty by the vendor, and you thought you are safe and sound.

Another shopping tips is to buy from a respective vendor or a well known computer shop. If its bound to happen any damage you can safely secure your device exchange without to worry the vendor won’t serve your warranty claim.

I just updated my wordpress to the very latest version 3.3.1. To my surprise this time it doesn’t go smooth as usual. I’ve got an error Call to undefined function is_rtl().

I can’t login to the admin panel once the update process completed. After few minutes of research the error is caused by a wordpress plugin. But how do we know which ones that cause those error?

Well here’s some step that you need to do to identify it

1. Open up your ftp program
2. Rename the plugins folder to something else (you can rename it to plugins_old, this will disable the wordpress plugin on your blog)
3. Then you can login back to your wordpress dashboard
4. Go back to your ftp program, create a new blank folder named plugins.
5. Copy each plugin one by one from the plugins_old to the newly created plugins folder

Try access your dashboard back, if its okay then the plugin you just copied is working fine and not the one which caused the error.

Do it all until you find the one that you looking for. Once you find it the dashboard will be on crazy mode again. Just go back to ftp and rename the last copied plugin.

I’ve found that popup domination are the one who caused the error for my blog. So how about you? Found any other besides popup domination plugin that caused the same error? Share it in the comments. So others can save some time and straight away rename particular plugin instead to find it one by one.

I’ve got an opportunity to review a new router specifically design for Yes 4G. Right now I’m staying in a college. Yes 4G coverage in UTM Skudai is quite good. In fact UTM is the first local IPTA that been chose by Yes to launch their product. All UTM student get a free Yes account with a free usage up to 300mb. Yep, it’s only 300mb per month. Ones could ponder what to do with 300mb? For me, easy! I could finish it within an hour. Hehh

This is the router that I received to review. Thanks to ceedtec.com who sent to me the router for testing. FYI information there’s no router in the market that support 4G usb modem yet. The official name for Yes 4G usb modem is ’4G dongle’. We do have a 3G modem supported router in the market now. But we can’t use Yes dongle on regular 3G router. It wouldn’t work. As 4G is totally a different protocol. So guys at ceedtec has developed a new firmware I supposed, for this particular router to support Yes 4G dongle. Just plugged in your modem in the usb slot. Setup your username and password in the administration area and you are good to go. An active Yes 4G connection with auto redial function.

Let focus on this router shall we.

This is main view of the router administration. There is a couple of field there that you need to fill up before you can use the modem. And just below that you can see there is a signal bar. Your Yes 4G signal strength meter. Right now the meter didn’t work yet.

Others are identical as usual as we found in normal administrative router page settings. You can set DNS etc

Here is the speed test that I get while I’m using Yes 4G connected to this router.

Impressive speed right? That is Yes strong point, low latency and high speed download speed which is top in its category compare to other wireless broadband like celcom, maxis and digi.

So far the experience using this router is good. But you can’t always keep it on due to Yes mechanism of charging their user based on prepaid basis. You have to disconnect it if its not in use. It would be good to see a quick switch on and off button for this router rather than switching it off through the main plug.

There is no way to disconnect it, you just had to unplugged the modem from the router which is a bit harsh to me. The dialer on the router interface will only do good on auto redial and get us connected. Disconnect button doesn’t seem to work
