Pebble is the name of the smartwatch that has become one of the biggest success stories on Kickstarter, and not only. People will be beating down the door for this smart watch, because it will work both for iPhone and Android

The main characteristic of Pebble is that it can accept apps for iPhone and Android and you can program itself to control both devices via Wi-Fi. It’s like something out of the old “Jetsons” television cartoon where people had all sorts of amazing gadgets like flying cars and robot dogs.

So far this product has over 66,000 backers and has raised over $10 million bucks where they originally needed $100,000. Needless to say the public has gone crazy for this watch as it allows for more convenience and control over our smartphones. Not only that but it’s a real watch with an e-paper face, it comes in several colors, is lightweight and has far more goodies inside.

One of the latest improvement Pebble got is Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, so those who have pre-ordered Pebble will get the e-ink watch on time in September with this new feature. Even if Bluetooth will not be enabled out of the box, it will be turned on through a software update. If you missed out on the first wave of Pebbles then just hold on. So far they’ve gotten 76,000 Pebbles sold and only 10,000 left so you had better hustle up if you want one, because according to Kickstarter there are only 6 days before the funding ends. The prices for a Pebble smartwatch start from $99 and go up until $10,000 or more(where you can get 100 Pebbles in any color – Arctic White, Cherry Red, Voter’s choice or Jet Black).

Having maxed out their pledges and getting the attention of the news worldwide you’ll see these watches popping up in September, if the company keeps their promises. So far, Pebble smartwatch project showed us that startups are unpredictable and anyone can make it through with a little luck and a lot of innovation.

SOPA has already been forgotten, though it was the last threat against your privacy, launched by the government against the American people. In November they launched another assault, called the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act. At the last minute an amendment was added that expanded the powers far beyond cyber protection. But then again, the crooks in Washington are always perpetrating such abuses on the American people.

CISPA paves the way for the U.S. government and private business to cooperate on security threats, as well as on suspicions of child pornography. It shields private companies from law suits for sharing clients’ private information and correspondence, with the U.S. government, when it is for the sake of national security or on suspicion of child pornography.

There are many interesting oversights here, not the least of which is why child pornography made it onto the list of crimes and not rape, drug cartels, corporate crimes, arson, death threats, etc… The five reasons that did make it were cybersecurity reasons, to investigate a cyber crime, for national security, to protect individuals from the danger of death or serious bodily injury, and for the protection of minors from child pornography and sexual exploitation.

Regardless of whether CISPA passes or not, we know our great government will repetitiously be hard at work drafting the next bill to rob us of our privacy. The government, and perhaps even many individuals among the American public, have rotted from the inside out. These people lack moral righteousness, but cloak themselves in the language of righteousness to achieve their wicked ends. Harsh language? Read further to decide for yourself.

The rhetoric of 9/11 will haunt us for a long time to come. We have been traumatized, and trauma clouds our thinking. When fear is the motivator, doing evil comes easily and we make brisk mistakes. The U.S. government knows that the U.S. public fears a repeat attack similar to 9/11. But consider who was attacked on that day. It was the wealthy in the Twin Towers of the financial sector of New York City and those at the Pentagon. The American public, the working class Joe, the average office worker, and children were not targeted. Yet the rhetoric implies that we should remember 9/11 as if each of us were individually attacked by terrorists. Those are not the facts of history.

Since 9/11, the U.S. government has been pushing bill after bill through to free up the law enforcement agencies so they are no longer supervised and controlled by the courts. The judicial system, the courts in particular, serve as an arbitrator between the people and the State, theoretically. Even prior to this stream of privacy depriving bills by the government against the people, we complained that the courts favored the government too much. Law enforcement saw it differently. To them, the courts only got in the way by requiring law enforcement agencies to prove their need to spy on a certain individual. So they turned to the Legislative branch to strip the courts of this power to supervise them. They do not want to show reason to spy on your private communication and to gather every tiny piece of your personal information without your consent.

The Patriot Acts I & II gave credence to the physical deprivation of rights, taking away the right to legal counsel and the right to be charged with a crime or released, but law enforcement needed more than that. They needed to be free to find someone to abuse before they knew they whether or not they were guilty – including the innocent public. That is where we are now with CISPA. It abuses every individual through the deprivation of privacy, through stripping the courts of their supervisory role over law enforcement’s privilege to invade an individual’s privacy. Who would be deciding whether the information warranted law enforcement intervention into privacy? The corporations, for God’s sake! Have we completely lost our minds?

The tech companies, including Microsoft and Facebook are in favor of CISPA, as are the Chamber of Commerce, the Republicans and 28 Democrats. They claim it is to stop foreign countries from looting U.S. companies through the Internet. How absurd can you get? Someone explain to me how a U.S. law can stop a foreign company on foreign soil from stealing from a U.S. company? Especially a law designed for exposing personal information of individuals in the U.S.? This assumes that U.S. companies are having their computers broken into and that something is being stolen AND that this something has commercial value. Those are a lot of big assumptions!

Explain to me how this kind of crime gets lumped in with child pornography? Are U.S. companies selling child pornography? Wow! That is a shock! Is that what foreigners are stealing from U.S. companies’ computers? Hmm.

One justification of the bill was child pornography, which is a witch hunt hot word in America since about 1995. In fact, there have been high profile cases where they arrested people on child pornography/molestation charges where they were sure the person was guilty, only to get egg on their faces when it was proven there was not a shred of evidence for it. Ok, there have not been many of these, but enough to raise red flags over the lack of objectivity in our law enforcement.

The biggest such case was the famous Wenatchee Sex Ring Hoax. This was the impetus for and a symbol of the rising hysteria over sexual abuse of children, even though it was a completely fraudulent event where 43 adults were charged with 29,726 counts against 60 children. Although they imprisoned the adults, higher courts overturned to local court’s decision. This raises the question of objectivity in the local judicial system. The entire case was based on the 13-year old daughter of the officer in charge of investigating the cases. Can you say “conflict of interest”?

These kinds of events have led us to where we are today – law enforcement exploiting children in order to rob average citizens of their right to privacy and their right against unwarranted search and seizure, such as bills, like CISPA, which strip citizens of protection from unwarranted search, seizure and imprisonment. It could happen to you. Now we are striping the supervisory role from the courts and giving private companies power to decide if police should investigate an individual, while shielding them against law suits for exposing their private information without warrant.

Not all of the Tech sector, though, is for the bill. Mozilla is against it, as is Reddit. Co-founder of Reddit, Alex Ohanian, sharply criticizes Facebook over CISPA support. His company is behind him 100%, since the freedom that CISPA threatens also threatens the existence of such companies as Reddit, according to Reddit General Manager Erik Martin.

Congressman Ron Paul is the highest profile politician speaking squarely against CISPA. He claims it is a direct assault against the First Amendment. He explains that the government is trying “to put private industry to work nefariously spying on the American people.” Jared Polis (D-Colorado) also made a stand against the bill, declaring it would erase all privacy laws that were enacted prior to CISPA, throughout history.

The American Civil Liberties Union is not silent either on the matter. Michell Richardson, legislative counsel for the ACLU, stated that moving farther away from protection of civil rights and individual rights, toward a more authoritarian police state cannot be reversed. She recommends the Senate ignore the bill and allow it do vanish.

Since 9/11 America has entered into one of the most critical stages of its history. We are under attack from within under the auspices of security against those from without. Giving them one valid point, consider this. If you thought the right wing conservative Christian community was too restrictive, imagine what living under Sharia Law would be like. That is what we could be facing 15 years out if terrorists of the Muslim world wins their war against the freedom that is America.

However, consider the irony that America has a faction within which has too much power and is doing exactly the same as we fear of Sharia Law. This faction which wields power in our government and law enforcement are thieves and anti-American. They seek to destroy the very thing that makes America great. The CISPA is only one of many attempts by this terrorist faction in our government.

As any techie might know by now, the Oracle people came down on Google on April 16 in court accusing the search engine giant of using 37 API’s in their Java software that Oracle says belongs to them. The copyright battle would have decimated Google to a degree in this area of its developmental software as it related directly to the Android mobile phone market.

That’s right, the trial was supposed to decide if Google had indeed illegally used Oracle’s APIs to develop the super popular and financially successful Android OS. As corporations, experts and of course stock holders were on the edge of their seats waiting to see what the court had to say. Today the court threw Oracle a bone but didn’t end the issue either. Basically what the court did was to say was that Google did indeed violate Oracle’s rights but the court didn’t allow the home run hitting issue of copyright violation to be decided. Had they done that, Google would have had to fork over $1 billion.

Like forking over $1 billion would have hurt Google?

The battle is covering many areas and it’s sort of like kicking up dust in a wheat field. These copyright issues and the various other goings on with the development of the Android has Google claiming that Oracle is just fishing for goodies from their success. The Android OS rules the playing field but if at any time Google had stolen intellectual property from Oracle they need to own up to it and compensate them. Just how deep this issue of ‘fair use’ goes is unknown because the courts didn’t cover it and left it for later consideration.

It’s going to be a long drawn out issue and only speculators can guess as to why. Are the courts worried stocks will suffer? Will profits fall? Will a new precedent be established? No lower court wants to tackle these issues. They want to cover their butts on the basics and kick it upstairs for the higher courts to handle. There’s too much money at stake here and when it comes to intellectual technology properties it’s a tip toe type of procedures as one out of place code could cause disaster and lots of embarrassment.

You can bet that the smartphone and tech world is going to keep close eyes on this story. The fact that it’s being drawn out as thin and as long as it can is an indicator that the players and the courts are looking to cross every ‘t’ and dot every ‘eye’. They don’t want to miss one issue whatsoever as it could lead to even further chaos. With the billions of dollars the smartphone industry generates this case is of great importance. Should things cascade for Google and other legal issues arise there’s no telling what the courts will suggest as a remedy. They might pull apart every Android leaving Google and their investors in a maelstrom.

Keep an eye on this case, it’s going to spell things out for smartphones.

Like something out of a futuristic movie, AT&T’s home security service allows users to be the Peeping Toms of their own homes utilizing cameras and do neat things like adjust the temperature of their homes and other cool goodies ranging from adjusting the home’s lighting and other things. Knowing the way kids can interface computer systems you can bet there’s going to be some astonishing configurations that even AT&T hasn’t expected yet.

And you’ll be doing this with a computer or your smartphone.

How’s that for the pinnacle of today’s super technology. Well you could have seen it all at the International CTIA Wireless event in New Orleans. The display of the new AT&T service is called the Digital Life. This is how it competes with ADT because the new AT&T “Digital Life” also has a 24 hour security call in center!

If you have a high speed Internet connection you’ll be able to participate in this service and it will have trials in the next several months reportedly in Dallas and Atlanta.

The bottom line for this is that AT&T is looking at the smart end of things. They realize the growing need for the home security market and know they’ve got quite the amount of technology and manpower already in place. It would have been negligent for them not to move into this realm and they’re doing so very smartly.

They’re taking advantage of the cool smartphone and tablet market and new digital cameras that continue to improve in efficiency. With new apps and other technologies to bring about greater modification, AT&T is looking on the brightside of things and for the college student or apartment owner and especially the home owner as this is going to be a highly affordable system that you can access and adjust from anywhere. If you’re out at the cafe and you’re enjoying yourself you can peek in on the domicile and see what the cat or puppy is doing or if the hamsters are exercising.

If you’re at work you can drop in and say hi at the family and get a bird’s eye view of the goings on around the home making it just fine to go back to work with no worries. With the computing available to people nowadays there’s no telling what developers, enthusiastic kids and owners will do with this system. There may be new things associated as time goes on much like in the smartphone industry. New apps that allow for cameras in the fishbowl or turning on the coffee and feeding the cat or even starting the vacuum cleaner and other devices. It’s going to be entertaining at how AT&T’s “Digital Life” stands up to customer’s ingenuity.

AT&T is surely going to have some fun with this new product and so will you.

It’s loaded to the gills with all of Samsung’s goodies and it’s about as state of the art as you can get from this company. So far fans are practically knocking each other over for these phones and for good reason. First there was so much hype that people almost got to thinking the Galaxy S III could alter the course of the Earth.

Well to keep matters in perspective, the design of the Galaxy S III is just what the doctor ordered. It’s thin and sleek and brushed plastic. You can get it in the colors of Marble White or Pebble Blue.

You’ll see it has dimensions of 136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6mm and a 4.8 inch HD Super AMOLED screen. A screen the fans say is just astonishing in color and performance. Actually it looks like a small pad. Just the screen alone is worth buying the Galaxy S III.

The Galaxy S III has some expert handling though-smooth and fits the palm just nicely. The company has refurbished it’s Touchwiz overlay technology for this new smartphone and obviously went out of their way to simplify things. When you’ll start to use the device you’ll find many new features designed for being easy on the eyes as well as easy on the fingers:

Smart stay allows the screen to stay awake as long as the user is looking at the phone.

Direct call allows you to call a person(while messaging) by lifting the phone and place it to your ear.

Smart alert lets you know when you have messages or missed calls by vibrating several times.

S Voice is Samsung’s respond to Siri. By using your voice you can command S Voice app to do stuff for you.

S Beam take advantage of the NFC chip to transfer music, pictures, videos and other files between two Galaxy S III devices by placing the smartphones back-to-back.

Buddy Photo Share automatically share photos with the persons that are recognized by the smartphone.

This beatiful smartphone is powered by the 1.4 GHz Exynos CPU and the latest version of Android – Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.4. On the back of the phone there’s an 8 megapixel camera, while on the front thre an 1.9 megapixel camera which is capable of shooting 720 p videos.

Besides this, the phone will be shipped in three different storage versions (16/32/64 GBs) and in some regions will support LTE networks. It will also feature Bluetooth 4.0, GPS with Glonass reception, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, NFC, microUSB. By removing the back, case you will have access to the 2,100 mAh battery, microSIM and microSD slots.

Even if now there are a lot of phones that can compete with Samsung Galaxy S III(like HTC One X or iPhone 4S), the Korean company has now the lead and the benchmarks are on their side. The competitors have to rethink a little their strategies and maybe do what Nokia is doing, not step in this multi-core processor game, and optimize their OS.

Facebook will open with a record high IPO among tech firms of Silicon Valley, raising $10.6 billion. This will leave Google in the dust! It also places Facebook among the giants, along with Amazon.

What started out as a bit of a joke in a dorm room at Harvard, has taken Mark Zuckerberg to the top of the world. Facebook’s IPO will be between $28-$35 a share. That puts the firm at a valuation of $77-96 billion.

The value is based on an assertive speculation that the company has large potential for raking in cash from many angles, not the least of which are ads and commerce.

One principal, Lise Buyer, from Class V Group, an IPO advisory company, declared that the shear size of this tech IPO has never happened before, to her knowledge. She admitted that it is a guessing game as to how much growth a company that has already gotten this big has ahead of it. She speaks from her experience with Google’s IPO eight years ago.

If you are worried the company will get spoiled, relax. Facebook itself is only grabbing a mere $5.6 billion of the $10.6 billion it is expected to obtain midway of the IPO. The rest is being kicked back to shareholders. If Wall Street is a bit colder or hotter than expected, the price range will be shifted a bit to accommodate it.

The excitement is high among investors, regardless of the crack in the dam, known as Zuckerberg. Yet, many are glad at least to see some range in the offering. Of course there are hopes to get in at the low end at $28.

The Facebook entourage will go peddling its wares from New York, to Boston, and on to Chicago. The circus starts on Monday and ends in Menlo Park California. Zuckerberg’s presence will grace all, but he will not be the star of the show. That is reserved for Sheryl Sandberg, COO, and David Ebersman, CFO.

Analysts are nervous about whether Zuckerberg can manage a long-term vision for the company and they are still in a bit of disbelief at its ability to make money. Zuckerberg’s presence will allay these concerns, but only because investors are a bit gullible.

There was a small slip in revenue last week, which had not happened for two years. Are these tremors foretelling the big fall or simply a glitch? That is what has investors curious.

Zuckerberg, true to form for the megalomaniacs who govern Internet giants, seeks nothing less than to rule the world. He swears that every program that exists will be tied into Facebook within the next five years. Where is Superman when we need him?

Facebook has been trying to hypnotize investors for a long time using the mantra of IPO. I guess it worked. Google raised only $2 billion in 2004, a pittance compared to Facebook’s $10.6 billion.

The questions are whether people believe there will be a return on their investments or not and who will be the suckers who buy the stock.
