Bridge History
Tower Bridge was completed in 1894, after 8 years of construction. However, many people don't realise why it was even built in the first place, or why it is so different from London's other bridges. The information below will fill you in on some of Tower Bridge's fascinating history.

The need for a new bridge
Originally, London Bridge was the only crossing over the Thames. As London grew, so more bridges were added, but these were all to the west of London Bridge, since the area east of London Bridge had become a busy port. In the 19th century, the east end of London became so densely populated that public pressure mounted for a bridge to the east of London Bridge, as journeys for pedestrians and vehicles were being delayed literally by hours.
Finally in 1876, the Corporation of London, who were responsible for that part of the Thames, decided that the problem could be put off no longer.

How a design was chosen

Detail of painting from 1666 of the Great Fire of London by an unknown artist, depicting the fire as it would have appeared on the evening of Tuesday, 4 September from a boat in the vicinity of Tower Wharf. The Tower of London is on the right and London Bridge on the left, with St. Paul's Cathedral in the distance, surrounded by the tallest flames.
The Great Fire of London was a major conflagration that swept through the central parts of London from Sunday, 2 September to Wednesday, 5 September 1666. The fire gutted the medieval City of London inside the old Roman City Wall. It threatened, but did not quite reach, the aristocratic district of Westminster (today's West End) and Charles II's Palace of Whitehall and left the suburban slums surrounding the City largely untouched. It consumed 13,200 houses, 87 parish churches, St. Paul's Cathedral, and nearly all the buildings of the City authorities. It is estimated that it made homeless 70,000 of the City's 80,000 inhabitants. The death

A number of adherents of Music Therapy are growing every year. Music is used to fight stress conditions and to cure stress related disorders (neurosis, psychosomatic disorders). Application of music in such cases is justified by the fact that music has a capability to modify psycho-emotional condition of a man. That is exactly the reason of the very existence of music and that is exactly the purpose it has always been serving. For psycho- and neuro-physiologist the term PSYCHO-EMOTIONAL condition stands for PSYCHO-PHYSIOLOGICAL condition because the psychological function of the brain is directly as well as indirectly based on the processes of the physiological level. Neuro-physiologist tends to interpret the influence of music on psycho-physiological condition as an influence over the central nervous system in a certain way (via the sound analyzer of the brain). It is an influence of organized rhythmic sound signals. The later are transformed into bio-electrical impulses and are comm

“in the world but not of the world”
-An Orthodox perspective-

	Introduction
The role of the Holy Liturgy in Orthodox mission was and still is of a great importance. The value of the Eucharistic assembly as venue for the proclamation of the Gospel can never be denied.
In discussing the mission of the Orthodoxy today it is necessary to look at those areas of human society that are today far removed from the Church and which need the salvation that church can bring. And I am thinking here to those who let themselves be carried along on the waves of the troubled technological-economical sea without founding any spiritual calm. They seek deaden their moments of boredom and disgust by means of such palliatives as drugs, alcohol and sex which, though they may bring moments of forgetfulness, in long run are destructive and destroy their nervous system. These secular and destructive elements become more and more present in the life of the peo

Jay Gatsby

The title character of The Great Gatsby is a young man, around thirty years old, who rose from an impoverished childhood in rural North Dakota to become fabulously wealthy. However, he achieved this lofty goal by participating in organized crime, including distributing illegal alcohol and trading in stolen securities. From his early youth, Gatsby despised poverty and longed for wealth and sophistication—he dropped out of St. Olaf’s College after only two weeks because he could not bear the janitorial job with which he was paying his tuition. Though Gatsby has always wanted to be rich, his main motivation in acquiring his fortune was his love for Daisy Buchanan, whom he met as a young military officer in Louisville before leaving to fight in World War I in 1917. Gatsby immediately fell in love with Daisy’s aura of luxury, grace, and charm, and lied to her about his own background in order to convince her that he was good enough for her.

From the beginning of the novel, Twain makes it clear that Huck is a boy who comes from the lowest levels of white society. His father is a drunk and a ruffian who disappears for months on end. Huck himself is dirty and frequently homeless. Although the Widow Douglas attempts to “reform” Huck, he resists her attempts and maintains his independent ways. The community has failed to protect him from his father, and though the Widow finally gives Huck some of the schooling and religious training that he had missed, he has not been indoctrinated with social values in the same way a middle-class boy like Tom Sawyer has been. Huck’s distance from mainstream society makes him skeptical of the world around him and the ideas it passes on to him.
Huck’s instinctual distrust and his experiences as he travels down the river force him to question the things society has taught him. According to the law, Jim is Miss Watson’s property, but accordin

THE NAME “ARGENTINA”
The name “Argentina” comes from the latin “argentum” which means silver. The origin of the name goes back to the voyages made by the first Spanish conquistadors (conquerors) to the Rio de la Plata (Silver River). The shipwrecked survivors of the expedition mounted by Juan Diaz de Solis discovered indians in the region who presented them with silver objects. The news about the legendary Sierra del Plata, a mountain rich in silver, reached Spain around 1524. From this date the Portuguese named the river Solis, the Silver River. Two years later the Spanish used the same name. Since 1860 the official name of the country has been the Republica Argentina (Republic of Argentina).

Fitness Needs
Fitness needs does not often come to mind in our present busy life. In fact, probably the only thought that is given to our fitness needs relates to the 15 pounds we think we need to lose. But even when we are fairly maintaining our fitness, we have needs that help us to sustain that fitness.
Meditation

Have you ever given thought to what those needs are? Meditation, a fitness exercise recommended for everyone, but especially those of us with hectic, stressful lifestyles, is defined as an engagement in contemplation, especially of a spiritual or devotional nature.
Meditation has been shown to relieve stress, and promote overall good health and fitness, by simply reflecting upon our day, and finding happiness within ourselves. Your fitness nutritional needs levels are dependent upon your eating habits and whether you use daily supplements of vitamins and minerals in order for you to sustain optimum physical health.

Environmental threats like global warming and the water crisis take their greatest toll on children. Environmental threats will continue to take their toll, for the mistakes of today will continue to haunt the world tomorrow.
During Earth Day '70, people all over the nation were working on projects to protect our environment. Projects included: organizing neighborhood clean-ups, and planting trees. Demonstrators spoke out on polluters of air, water and noise in an ecology fair. After the first Earth Day, a lot of persons feared that enviromental issues would not become part of the way of life, but much to their surprise, activators continued their fight daily to save our environment .
Over the years, Earth Day has had its successes and struggles. Earth Day struggled because of a lack of political support that year. Supporters held clean up drives,

The Report of the Special Commission on ecclesiology
I. “A commission for a crisis”
In the years after the Canberra WCC’s Assembly (1991), Orthodox Churches challenged the World Council of Churches, considering it of a too liberal orientation and a failure to hear the voice of Orthodox Churches in formulating its agenda or issuing its public statements. Certain churches, e.g. the Orthodox Churches of Georgia and Bulgaria, had withdrawn from membership of the WCC and others were seriously considering whether they wished to continue their ecumenical work in the WCC in future.
Harsh questions of a broader ecumenical character emerged in this situation:
•Why did the Orthodox Church of Bulgaria and Georgia suddenly withdraw their participation in WCC?
•Why did the council of bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Holy Synod of bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church request a new pa

a)What are the sources of water pollution?
There are many causes for water pollution but two general categories exist: direct and indirect contaminant sources.
Direct sources include effluent outfalls from factories, refineries, waste treatment plants etc.. that emit fluids of varying quality directly into urban water supplies. In the United States and other countries, these practices are regulated, although this doesn't mean that pollutants can't be found in these waters.
Indirect sources include contaminants that enter the water supply from soils/groundwater systems and from the atmosphere via rain water. Soils and groundwaters contain the residue of human agricultural practices (fertilizers, pesticides, etc..) and improperly disposed of industrial

The stars
The actual process of star formation remains shrouded in mystery because stars form in dense, cold molecular clouds whose dust obscures newly formed stars from our view. For reasons which are not fully understood, but which may have to do with collisions of molecular clouds, or shockwaves passing through molecular clouds as the clouds pass through spiral structure in galaxies, or magnetic-gravitational instabilities (or, perhaps all of the above) the dense core of a molecular cloud begins to condense under its self-gravity, fragmenting into stellar mass clouds which continue to condense forming protostars. As the cloud condenses, gravitational potential energy is released - half of this released gravitational energy goes into heating the cloud, half is radiated away as thermal radiation. Because gravity is stronger near the center of the cloud (remember Fg ~ 1/distance2) the center condenses more quickly, more energy is released in the center of the cloud, and the center bec

I. INTRODUCTION

Grand Canyon is an exceptionally deep, steep-walled canyon in northwestern Arizona, excavated by the Colorado River. The Grand Canyon is 446 km (277 mi) long, up to 29 km (18 mi) wide, and more than 1500 m (5000 ft) deep. The entire canyon is extremely beautiful, containing towering buttes, mesas, and valleys within its main gorge. A spectacular section of the canyon, together with plateau areas on either side of it, are preserved as the Grand Canyon National Park, which receives about four million visitors a year.

The Grand Canyon cuts steeply through an arid plateau region that lies between about 1500 and 2700 m (about 5000 and 9000 ft) above sea level. This region, although lacking year-round streams in recent years, is sharply eroded, showing such characteristic forms as buttes; it is interspersed with old lava flows, hills composed of volcanic debris, and intrusions of igneous rock. The plateau area has a general downward slope to t

THE IMPACT OF THE INTERNET IN OUR DAILY LIFE

There is a big influence of technique on our daily life. Electronic devices, multimedia and computers are things we have to deal with everyday.
Especially the Internet is becoming more and more important for nearly everybody as it is one of the newest and most forward-looking media and surely “the” medium of the future.
Therefore we thought that it would be necessary to think about some good and bad aspects of how this medium influences us, what impacts it has on our social behaviour and what the future will look like.

The Internet changed our life enormously, there is no doubt about that. There are many advantages of the Internet that show you the importance of this new medium. What I want to say is that Internet changed our life in a positive way.
First we have to make a differentiation concerning the usage. You can use the Internet at home for personal or you at work for professional usage. Let’s come to the first.

“IT’S TOO LONG TO WAIT TO BE HAPPY SO LET’S BE HAPPY WHILE WE’RE WAITING”

Happyness is something you couldn’t buy. It cannot be expressed through words, the feelings being those who communicate the happyness. I think happyness is ubiquitous, but it must be uncovered. It exists in every person, in every invented thing, in every smile someone could offer to you. Some persons experience many shortcomings during their lives, but do not forget to smile and enjoy every moment.
Nevertheless, many people say happyness is relative, it only counts what we live, either happyness or bitterness. But how could we think positively if there is not enev a bit of happyness in everything? Universe’s main law is represented by the attraction (gravity). If we think positively, we attract the good things. We think about wellness, we definitely could achieve it if our wish is strong enough and we believe in it. Chapters 1–4
Summary: Chapter 1
The novel opens on a dreary November afternoon at Gateshead, the home of the wealthy Reed family. A young girl named Jane Eyre sits in the drawing room reading Bewick’s History of British Birds. Jane’s aunt, Mrs. Reed, has forbidden her niece to play with her cousins Eliza, Georgiana, and the bullying John. John chides Jane for being a lowly orphan who is only permitted to live with the Reeds because of his mother’s charity. John then hurls a book at the young girl, pushing her to the end of her patience. Jane finally erupts, and the two cousins fight. Mrs. Reed holds Jane responsible for the scuffle and sends her to the “red-room”—the frightening chamber in which her Uncle Reed died—as punishment.

Summary: Chapter 2
Two servants, Miss Abbott and Bessie Lee, escort Jane to the red-room, and Jane resists them with all of her might. Once locked in the room, Jane catches a glimpse of her ghastly figure in the mirror, and, shocked

I have always been fascinated by the Hollywood’s world, a world of mixture between reality and glittering fantasy, of beauty, glamour, art, a world in which any dream can come to reality.

The word Hollywood conjures the outstanding images of Sunset Strip, Hollywood Boulevard, Cahuega Boulevard, La Brea Avenue, of nightclubs, movie palaces, special effects, extraordinay people – stars of the gaudiest illumination, Hollywood, being often referred to as a “state of mind”.

Hollywood is a segment of Los Angeles, California, USA. Here, almost a century ago, the American Dream burst bigger than anything, giving birth to to a new world, the movie industry. Of course, movies were then, and still are, made in different locations, some nearby, and some far away. But nowhere and nothing frees our fantasies and stirs our hopes and fears, like that unparalled word: “ Hollywood”. Among biggest dreams of the humanity, healthy, vitality and not only wisdom have been changeless targets during the historical course of the human’s becoming. The human being laboured in his quests to accomplish these values, trying some of the most diverse methods, depending on the geographical space in which he existed, the historical time to which he belonged. For he spiritual side, the religions of the world created a favorable background in which man can transfigure his soul by approaching of the divinity. But this ascendant way in conquering the essential values with the object of obtaining his happiness demands a continuos improvement of his soul.
All this human’s aspirations could form the frame of the destiny, all that leads of its formation. But does destiny really exist? Should we guide in our life after certain pre-established laws? Could be a superstition, certitude or a written

What famous person would you like to have dinner with? This is probably a question everyone, at least once, ran through they're heads. This is, of course, only theoretical since the majority of us don't have the necessary social standard or that person is probably already deceased, but imagination has no boundaries and, if you're really good at it you can come very close to the real thing. Thus, this being said, if i could meet three famous persons they would probably be Mitch Hedberg (deceased comedian), Audrey Tautou (actress) and, last but not least, Neil Armstrong (retired astronaut). I choose these persons minding they're achievements, my interests and likes and, of course, curiosity.
Let's start off with Mitch Hedberg. Mitch was a stand up comedian born in Saint Paul, Minnesota, on February 24, 1968. First time i saw him on stage was while randomly browsing the Internet and stumbling upon a few videos of him performing. Besides the enormous amount of laughs he

The Importance and the Relevance of the Macroeconomic Indicators

The economic activities which take place within the framework of a national economy are concretized in a wide range of goods and services. Their assessment under physical or valoric aspect is realised with the help of the economic indicators.
The economic indicator reveals the numeric expression of the quantitative side of the economic phenomena and processes in a certain space and time conditions. It permits to make evident these processes and phenomena quantitatively, structurally and qualitatively and to observe the interdependences between some certain subsystems of the national economy.
According to the level these indicators are calculated for, there can be microeconomic and macroeconomic indicators; if the former shows the results at the level of individual economic agent, the latter measures the performance at the level of national economy. The starting point in calculating the macroeconomic indicators

The Nobel Prize in Physics 1909
Biography
Guglielmo Marconi was born at Bologna, Italy, on April 25, 1874, the second son of Giuseppe Marconi, an Italian country gentleman, and Annie Jameson, daughter of Andrew Jameson of Daphne Castle in the County Wexford, Ireland. He was educated privately at Bologna, Florence and Leghorn. Even as a boy he took a keen interest in physical and electrical science and studied the works of Maxwell, Hertz, Righi, Lodge and others. In 1895 he began laboratory experiments at his father's country estate at Pontecchio where he succeeded in sending wireless signals over a distance of one and a half miles.

In 1896 Marconi took his apparatus to England where he was introduced to Mr. (later Sir) William Preece, Engineer-in-Chief of the Post Office, and later that year was granted the world's first patent for a system of wireless telegraphy. He demonstrated his system successfully in London, on Salisbury Plain and across the Bristol Chann

The Lady Diana Frances Spencer (Diana Frances Mountbatten-Windsor, née Spencer) (1 July 1961–31 August 1997) was the first wife of Charles, Prince of Wales. From her marriage in 1981 to her divorce in 1996 she was styled Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales. After her divorce in 1996, Diana ceased to be a Royal Highness and The Princess of Wales and instead was styled Diana, Princess of Wales. She was often called Princess Diana by the media and the public, but this was incorrect both during and after her marriage, as she was only ever a Princess by marriage, not by birth.'

An iconic presence on the world-stage, Diana, Princess of Wales was noted for her pioneering charity work. Yet her philanthropic endeavours were overshadowed by her scandal-plagued marriage to Prince Charles. Her bitter accusations via friends and biographers of adultery, mental cruelty and emotional distress visited upon her riveted the world for much of the 1990s, spawning books, magazine articles and te

The Council of Europe (COE) has developed a series of European symbols for the continent of Europe, and these have since been shared with the European Union (EU). They are intended both as symbols of the organizations themselves, and as a focus for a form of Pan-European identity.

Flag

The flag of Europe is twelve golden stars (pointing upwards) in a circle on a blue background. Although the flag is most commonly associated with the European Union, it was initially used by the Council of Europe in 1955, and is considered to represent Europe as a whole as opposed to any particular organization such as the EU or the COE.
The flag was adopted in 1985 by all EU heads of State and government as the official emblem of the European Union and, since the beginning of 1986, it is used by all European institutions. People choose careers for many reasons(finacial gail, job satisfaction). What do you think is the best way to choose a career. Use specific reasons and example to support your answer.
I know some people who give more thought to what they wear to work each day than they gave to choosing their careers. Personal, I think that career planning is multi-step process that involves learning about yourself, discovering which occupations are suitable for someone with that personality tipe, values, interests and skills.
It is very important to have a satisfing job. Job satisfaction has been defined as an affective reaction to one job. So that the happiest people are with their job, the more satisfied they are said to be.
For an organization is important that people be efficient. For that they must be motivated. Job satisfaction is not the same as motivation, although it is clearly linked. Job design aims to enhance job satisfaction and performance, methods include job rotation, e

With outlying islands, it covers an estimated 44,391,000 sq km (17,139,000 sq mi), or about 30 percent of the world’s total land area. Its peoples account for three-fifths of the world’s population; in 2005 Asia had an estimated 3.91 billion inhabitants.
Most geographers regard Asia as bounded on the north by the Arctic Ocean, on the east by the Bering Strait and the Pacific Ocean, on the south by the Indian Ocean, and on the southwest by the Red Sea and Mediterranean Sea. On the west, the conventional boundary between Europe and Asia is drawn at the Ural Mountains, continuing south along the Ural River to the Caspian Sea, then west along the Caucasus Mountains to the Black Sea. Some geographers include Europe and Asia together in a larger Eurasian region, noting that western Asian countries, such as Turkey, merge almost imperceptibly into Europe.

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE

Chapters 1–4
Summary: Chapters 1–2

The news that a wealthy young gentleman named Charles Bingley has rented the manor known as Netherfield Park causes a great stir in the neighboring village of Longbourn, especially in the Bennet household. The Bennets have five unmarried daughters, and Mrs. Bennet, a foolish and fussy gossip, is the sort who agrees with the novel’s opening words: “It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.” She sees Bingley’s arrival as an opportunity for one of the girls to obtain a wealthy spouse, and she therefore insists that her husband call on the new arrival immediately. Mr. Bennet torments his family by pretending to have no interest in doing so, but he eventually meets with Mr. Bingley without their knowing. When he reveals to Mrs. Bennet and his daughters that he has made their new neighbor’s acquaintance, they are overjoyed and excited.
