The keyboard offers excellent comfort, with soft-touch plastic which won’t wear out easily. That said, it’s still a quiet responsive board to type on, and better than many we’ve seen at this price. The 16-inch chassis allows plenty of space for large keys, and there’s also a full-sized numeric keypad. One thing that can be said, that Acer sure has done a great job by making the keyboard so spacious. You can easily move around and type easily.

The spacious and responsive touchpad can be used very easily. There’s a fingerprint scanner between the buttons, quite useful if you do not want others prying into your work. It also includes a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 processor and 3072MB of memory. It is quite easy to multi-task without any problems. The battery life is under 2hrs and 30mins is very disappointing, to say the least, even at this price. However to make up for its low battery life, it seems, Acer has included the Nvidia Geforce 9300M GS graphics card. It plays the new and old games with much ease.

The integrated Blu-ray drive is read-only, so you won’t be able to back-up data to blank Blu-ray discs. You’ll still be able to burn regular DVDs and CDs, however. It has a 250 GB hard drive. It also has features like 802.11n Wi-Fi and Gigabit Ethernet. Bluetooth which allows you to transfer files easily. Acer has included four USB ports too.

Verdict on Acer Aspire 6930G-583G

It is quite a decent piece and at this price it offers great features. Though it could do with some minor changes, it is still good for those looking for a low priced Blu- Ray laptop.

The new Acer Aspire 6930G-583G has been introduced in the market for a price of £500. Compared to other expensive models in the market, Acer works extremely well, though there are some minor problems that Acer needs to look into. Though it has 16 inch screen with 16:9 aspect ratio, it has an extremely low vertical pixel count. Acer well needs to consider this, as many other models at a lower price offer this feature. It is because of this that it has been receiving some flak.

The 6930G-583G has a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. It is great to watch a movie on. Acer Aspire seems to be tailor made for movie buffs, because of its excellent features of bright backlighting, efficient sound reproduction and touch-sensitive media hotkeys below the display along with great sound. It’s Dolby Home Theater integrated surround sound technology is its unique selling point. You also cannot use the high-definition Blu-ray movies on the move, which is quite a pity.

The 6930G looks quite a lot like its predecessor, with a glossy dark blue lid. It’s reasonably chic and stylish, but it’s a lot heavier than many of its rivals, weighing in at 3.2kg and therefore it is not likely that you will lug it around while traveling. It is quite a fingerprint and scratch magnet. Use one of those laptop covers you get. It also includes a power jack and a Kensington lock. Unlike more expensive models in the range, the Aspire 6930G-583G has omitted Acer’s fussy Cinedash control panel.

Dell has entered the notebook market with much aplomb, launching the 8.9-inch Inspiron Mini 9 last year and has now followed it up with The Dell Inspiron Mini 10. It is great for those looking for a netbook which can be used on the move. Let’s analyze why exactly it is getting such mixed response.

The stylish black chassis is very slim and weighs just 1.2kg. Its sleek dimensions make it easy to slip into a bag and it is so light weight that you will hardly notice it. It is extremely stylish and will definitely make some eyebrows rise. The glossy lid is frequently prone to scratches and smudges, which make it, look quite ugly so it is advisable to use a protective cover for it.

A major problem with this gadget is that it has only a 3 cell battery. Since dell is promoting it as a notebook meant for use during travel, it hardly provides long battery life. The battery life is around 190 minutes, and at this price there are many other notebooks with much better battery life. On the positive side it has a great HDTV tuner which catches signals quite well. Also the HDMI port is extremely useful and is one feature which you will not find in notebooks in this price range.

But leaving this aside, one of its most useful features includes larger keys with hard typing action. But again the touchpad and mouse button fail to impress us. It is quite difficult to handle it as they are made of almost same material and we kept on accidentally clicking while actually we wanted to scroll. Looks like Dell needs to pull up its socks and work a little harder in the notebook section at least.

Dell’s Inspiron also uses the Intel Atom Z520/Z530 processor and GMA 500 chipset which, as compared to others, is does not function too well.

Stunning screen

One of its key features is the 10.1 inch screen, which offers stunning colors. It turns movie watching to an extremely pleasurable experience. The black screen enhances the display and makes it, if possible, look even better. Sometimes, though the screen can be a little difficult to read. But leaving that aside, the overall performance is less impressive. The 1.33GHz Intel Atom Z520 processor is a less powerful variant and is good enough for basic use only. The hard drive has 160 GB of memory and can store vast collections of music and videos. The flash storage card reader also provides an easy way to add storage, as well as share files with digital cameras and smartphones.

It is a rare indeed when you hear that Dell notebooks have fallen short of expectations. But sadly it is the case here. Looks like even Dell sometimes can lose the plot completely. It is not worth buying it when other better pieces are available at the same price and of course, you wouldn’t want to buy it only for its keyboard and great screen.

Apple Inc. is a company known for making its own rules. However, with all the talks and discussions going on about how the same application cost so much less on Windows, it seems that the company is finally paying attention to its suggestion boxes. The latest series of Apple Macbook Pro 13-inch are all manufactured by with aluminium, thus giving them a shiny finish as well as more durability. Even the track pads are now multi touch enabled. These updates are being considered as the steps towards refinement rather than a revolution in the notebook sector. Apple has also decided to add some very sought-after features while also lowering the prices of the notebooks.

The Apple Macbook Pro is a 13 inch display macbook that is aluminium constructed that has recently been promoted to the Pro series. To complete the total upgrade, Apple even decided to give the macbook its missing FireWire port, thus making it even more useful for professionals who are constantly on the move. Another amazing addition to this series of macbooks is the installation of the SD card slot. This now comes as a standard feature on the 13 and the 15 inch pro macbooks. This series of laptops also come with keyboards that are backlit, that is, they have lights in the background. Earlier, this facility was seen only in the expensive 13 inch versions.

Another upgrade in the latest Apple Macbook Pro 13 inch laptop is it non-removable battery. When tested under lab conditions, the battery backup was an amazing 4 hours and 44 minutes. Some people do have strong feelings about this move of inserting a non removable battery; however, Apple has claimed a 40% improvement in the battery backup sector. Also, Apple claims that there would be three more recharge cycles of the battery as compared to the older ones. The build and design of this macbook is not much different from the last year’s models, though the finishing and the construction make it lighter and sturdier.

The other specifications include the 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 2 GB DDR2 RAM. The Apple Macbook Pro 13 inch laptop comes with a 160 GB 5400 rpm HDD and Nvidia MCP79 chipset. The graphics card used is the Nvidia GeForce 9400M which is integrated in the system. The macbook comes preloaded with OS X Leopard 10.5.7 operating system. The system weighs 4.5 pounds without the adapter and 5.2 pounds with it.

Acer Aspire 5735, released around, the end of 2008 is a great gadget and has managed to create much interest amongst the consumers. It comes with a price tag of under 400 pounds and with its wonderful features, it is a must have. Acer has certainly lived up to its reputation of delivering the best at minimum cost. Though there are minor glitches here and there and certain features which could have been better, but that should not stop you to consider to buy it. So here is its review

The Acer’s 15.6-inch display has a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, and it looks a lot sharper than an average 15.4-inch 1280 x 800 pixel panel. Like other Acer models it is great for watching movies. Though the number of vertical pixels is not too impressive, it is just a minor problem. There are too many great features and one can easily overlook this little glitch.

The colors are simply stunning and the images are quite life like and look extremely great on screen. At this price it can be said that it has the best quality of screen ever. However you cannot use while traveling, as it has Super SVT coating and the light reflects a lot, and it can be quite irritating. Another reason for not using it during travel is that it weighs 3 kg. However it is quite spacious and has more area for keyboards and other controls.

All the keys are responsive, and have a decent sized numeric pad. The touchpad works very well and is friction free. It also has a number of silly features like twirling your fingers to scroll, when the scroll bar is located at a little distance. But again it is a minor little problem which can be completely ignored.

You will also find an integrated graphics card and Intel’s mainstream GMA 4500M chip, which works reasonably well for normal tasks. Its battery life is pretty much average at 3.5 hours and you need to pay extra if you wish to play games in 3 D. the office performance surprises us as it is extremely good and the laptop has included 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. It also has 3072 memory and it is relatively easy to multi task for a laptop available at this price range.

It has a storage capacity of 160GB and it also has a built in Wi-Fi. It also has included 3 USB ports. It also has a 5 in 1 memory card and a dual layer DVD rewriter.

Verdicts on Acer Aspire 5735

It is a great value for money laptop, and the small problems should be definitely ignored. You definitely wouldn’t find the wide range of features in any other laptop at this price. The icing on the cake is that it is also quite good looking, unlike other laptops available in this price range. The performance is also better than average and therefore it is worth every penny you pay for it.

Starting 1992, IBM revolutionized computing with its range of ThinkPad personal computers. Recently from 2005, since Lenovo brought the PC division from IBM, ThinkPad and ThinkCentre – another award winning series, are being manufactured and promoted by Lenovo.

As the world’s fourth largest computer manufacturer, Lenovo has retained and improved upon the range of ThinkPad business laptops. It also has evolved as a manufacturer for small and medium sized businesses. The new Lenovo 3000 N500 is one such wonderful laptop and it has been christened as ‘THE ULTIMATE TOOL FOR YOUR SMALL BUSINESS IDEAS’ by Lenovo.

The Lenovo 3000 N500 notebook is a highly stylish and widescreen laptop combining the popular features at an incredible price. Though its build quality is quite good, it is extremely clunky and lacks style when compared to other successful models, one of them being the Acer Aspire 6930G-583G. The designers who designed the keyboard design on the ThinkPad notebooks have brought out another masterpiece with the N500. Only the Dell Studio 15 betters it in terms of keyboards.

The plastics offer good protection to the N500 and the notebook remains cool enough even when heavy applications are running. This is one good feature that Lenovo has kept in mind. One of the features that Lenovo has not included is the keyboard light and backlight, undoubtedly reserved for its more expensive models.

The 15.4 inch screen is decent enough for the notebook, but there are better ones available in the market for the same price. The 1280×800 resolution is good enough for casual work but entertainment wise it quite lacking in quality. Further the Super-TFT coating on its screen adds to the user’s woes since it keeps on reflecting incessantly in changing light conditions.

The graphics are supported by an Intel GMA 4500M GPU which is an integrated graphics card for general use. Unfortunately for media related tasks this notebook is quite lacking. This also confirms without being said that the attractive OS Windows Vista will struggle to keep up on this system than on other machines.

The fact that Lenovo 3000 N500 is powered by an Intel Dual Core processor also adds to the woeful performance that Lenovo is offering in this model and at that price range. The performance offered is too mediocre as compared to other laptops when compared to the other specifications too. The performance although has not affected the battery life. It runs for a really long 200 minutes which is good compared to other models too.

The 250GB hard disk offers ample space to store for your files and media content. The interfaces are good and it offers Wi-Fi connectivity too. This is good for those who love to access the net on the move.

This notebook’s best feature is its affordability, though it might not be enough to lure people to buy this model. At the same price other notebooks will make the cut above this one for sure.

Asus has announced further details about its upcoming Asus U series of ultra-portable and thin laptops earlier this year.

Pitched as a device to appeal to those professionals who want an ultra thin and portable laptop – without sacrificing features – the Asus U series comes with a choice of Intel ULV and Core 2 Duo processors, depending on the need of the user.

It is also strong on the multimedia side, with all U series laptops boasting energy efficient 16:9 LED backlit screens and Nvidia GeForce G105M graphics. All models also come with Altec Lansing speakers featuring its SRS Premium Sound technology.

The device’s design has clearly been given some considerable thought by the R & D department, with Asus claiming that it looks like a butterfly in profile.

Asus also ships all devices with its ExpressGate technology. This allows users to boot into a Linux-based browser designed to enable browsing of the internet, instant messaging and other multimedia applications within 8 seconds.

The vendor has also included its AI Light sensor technology, which automatically adjusts the brightness of the screen and the backlighting of the keyboard, partly to reduce power consumption, but also to help protect damage to the user’s eyesight.

Toshiba New Netbook Range – Toshiba NB200

Following the success of its first netbook, Toshiba NB100, Toshiba has announced a new addition to its range – the new Toshiba NB200 netbook series.

Featuring a 10.1 inches widescreen display, near full-sized keyboard and an extra large keypad, the device has been designed to be easy to use. However, the form factor has not had an impact on the device’s usability, with the NB200 boasting a battery life of nine hours – much longer than some regular laptops on the market.

The device is designed around Windows XP and is powered by a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor or, in the higher SKU, Intel’s new N280 Atom processors, which offer a clock speed of 1.66GHz. Both models feature Intel’s 945GSE graphics chipset, giving more than enough power for the most popular functions of web browsing, emailing and using media.

In terms of storage, the NB200 comes with a 160GB hard drive. Toshiba has also introduced a 3D accelerometer – a feature normally found in full laptops – to prevent damage to the hard drive’s ceramic plates if dropped.

The NB200 has integrated mobile broadband and embedded wireless LAN, giving resellers the option to bundle the device with their network operator partner’s service without the need for a separate dongle.

The device will be available in a choice of four colours.

If you are looking for a laptop that’s reasonably priced, geared toward people who would use it at home and want a lot of media-type features installed, then you don’t have to search any longer. Toshiba has released its Toshiba Satellite Pro A300 with touch-sensitive keys that allow you the ability to control CDs and DVDs.

The Satellite Pro also uses a Windows Vista feature called HotStart. HotStart gives you the ability to play your choice of music or video with no delay. You’ll love watching movies on the Satellite Pro with its bright 15.4-inch screen.

The screen is a Super-TFT panel, which means in bright conditions, you have some reflections. Yet, if you want to use it as an around the house computer, then you’ll love what it has to offer you.

If you want a laptop that will give you the basic tasks without a lot of game playing, then this is fine. However, the integrated graphics card doesn’t do well for intense games or video editing.

The battery life of the laptop can last up to three hours before you will need to charge it again. This Toshiba laptop weighs 2.9 kilograms, which means you can take the laptop on the road when you need it.

The Toshiba Satellite Pro A300 is distinctive with its round style (similar to other company products) and its sleek, patterned plastic chassis.

For the Toshiba Satellite Pro A300, the keyboard is user friendly. It’s got big tapered keys that allow you to use it when traveling. The keys can be slightly noisy when tapped upon. You can also type on the keyboard very quickly. In fact, the keyboard finish is made up of the same plastic the chassis is made up of. This is a slight drawback because fingerprints are often left behind.

The touchpad of the laptop has a more course finish, which means you can move the mouse curser to your destination precisely.

If you are looking for a fast computer then you don’t want to settle for the A300. Why? It’s designed with a 2.0 gigahertz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 2048 megabyte of memory. However, most people are fine with this specification but take note that it’ll slow down when numerous programs are open. However, you’ll love the 200-gigabyte hard drive that comes with your laptop. That’s enough space for lots of music, videos, software applications and documents.

You may not like the wireless network that comes with this “consumer” machine. It’s got an older Wi-fi adapter and there are no high definition HDMI support and viewing externally means hooking it to analogue sources like S-Video or VGA.

No doubt the Toshiba Satellite Pro A300 lacks some of the more cutting edge components and speed seen in its rivals. However, it’s got the quality needed for users to interface. It is a good choice for the user with basic needs.
