When was the last time tuned-up your career assets? What exactly are career assets? These are those things that allow you to seamlessly win the career race every time you compete. After all, everyone knows the best time to look for a new job is when you don’t need one.

“Wait a minute,” you say. “Why would I want to look if I am great where I am?” Well, like a flamingo with your head in the sand-what you don’t know WILL hurt you. Getting a career tune-up will allow your career to run more smoothly, effectively and competitively, when uncertainty occurs.

Certainly, taking this check-up from the neck-up regarding your career is easiest when you are in a good place. In order to continually compete in the career race, you will need to take regular reviews of how career “fit” you are. Consider tuning-up the following assets in your career inventory and keep your career competitive and humming.

You could soften the questions, and simply ask:

1. What’s the rate of turnover in this group?

2. Do this team’s projects tend to go as originally planned, or is it common for priorities and deadlines to change?

3. What are the personality types of the others on the team; what motivates them?

This looks like you’re asking about the job and the coworkers (which you are), but it will also reveal a lot about the interviewer.

Interesting stuff, GL. What’s YOUR take on it. Do you think those are appropriate questions to ask?

State of Nursing Jobs in Dubai by TeleportMyJob - The Healthcare sector is booming in the United Arab Emirates.

There is something else you can’t help but notice amongst the surprisingly leafy environs – The Healthcare sector is booming in the United Arab Emirates.

Large hospitals abound, from the Government owned and run to the private, attracting staff from across the globe. With the recent establishment of ‘Dubai Healthcare City’ ( DHCC ) the attraction of the Middle East and it’s growing economy has attracted many internationally recognized hospitals, clinics and Doctors setting up Dubai branches of their already successful overseas operations.

Most recruitment agencies suggest you submit a copy of your passport, 3 copies of your original certificates, the name of your current supervisor and the address of the issuing body for your qualifications, copies of your employment references and 3 copies of your current practicing medical registration/certificate of registration from your governing medical body to the UAE embassy in your country of origin. We would suggest you contact the embassy first, because requirements do change.

Of course some hospitals and clinics offer more than others, as with any other profession. Training incentives or subsidiaries on childcare, utility bills and school fees might be some of the ‘extras’ offered on top of the basic package. Working hours and shift patterns will of course be exclusive to the particular organization you work for or your particular specialism.

It seems that the business world shuts down during the festive season. With Thanksgiving & Christmas seasons seemingly rolling into one this year, the seasonal socialising just goes on and on!

If you are on the lookout for a new international job or that next career move, it would be very easy to get into the festive spirit and forget about looking for a few weeks. Who could blame you? But the reality is this; can you really afford to call off the job search for such a long period? Many would argue it’s pointless anyway, as nothing seems to get ‘done’ during festive times, but I’d disagree.

Keep up your job search. December can actually be a good time to look for a job. Companies often put off hiring until the fourth quarter, hiring managers may be in a better-than-usual mood and may be easier to reach, fewer people job hunt this time of year so there’s less competition, and networking opportunities abound (those holiday parties!). All good reasons to keep on keeping on.

Let’s face it, there is a whole lot of career advice out there to wade through. Here are common delusions and facts about job hunting and recruitment.

The whole truth..

Let’s face it, there is a whole lot of career advice out there to wade through. First off all there are your nearest and dearest dishing out that job advice in their caring way, then there is the internet, with millions of articles telling you what you need to do to secure that next career move or job, may contradicting each other in the process.

It’s a dog eat dog world out there in the job hunting game, so you need to know how to tell the job search delusions from the job search truths… whether you are searching jobs in Abu Dhabi, Honk Kong, or Miami.

Delusion: Go into detail on your resume about past experience to show your potential employer what you have achieved and convince them to employ you.

Truth: Your resume is a call to action, not an autobiography. You need to create enough interest to garner yourself an interview. Hold something back to share at the face to face meeting.

Delusion: Describe your ideal role to potential employers in your resume, so employers see your passion and focus immediately.

Truth: This is a harsh one. Potential employees don’t actually give a fig what makes you happy. They want to know how you can make them happy. Focus on the organisation at hand and detail how you will improve things for them and why.

Delusion: The Interviewer holds all the cards…

Truth: It’s totally a two way deal. If you are interviewing for a respected organisation who care about who they reply, they will be more interested in what you have to say rather than what they can bark at you. Okay, they have the deciding vote on whether you get the job or not, but an interview is YOUR gig, your chance to shine

Australia has always been the western immigrants’ country of choice when it comes to travelling and or working abroad. Sydney remains a popular destination, but the city of Melbourne presents many attractive opportunities for living and working away from your home country and finding that ideal job in the sunshine!

Many residents and observers would vote Melbourne as Australia’s capital for fashion and creativity music and events, no doubt down to the citys multicultural roots and outlook. This makes it one of the country’s most dynamic destinations.

Within a couple of hours range of the city visitors and residents alike can do everything from ski in the mountains and surf in the sea, hike through forests or across desert plains, see penguins or kangaroos and sample food and wine from the four corners of the earth at the broadest range of international restaurants available on the planet!

Climate: Melbourne is known for its four seasons in one day attitude to the weather. Layers are good thing, clothing wise. Summers are generally sunny and warm, and winters, of course, are cooler, but other seasons are rather unpredicatable.

Accomodation: Homes usually include one to four bedrooms, a kitchen, one or two bathrooms, laundry and living space. Larger homes also include a second or third living areas/dining rooms, and a garage or carport.

Melbourne is the second most expensive city in Australia after Sydney . Housing costs are reflected in this with the average weekly median being approx 315 AUSD per week, rising 12% in the last year. Renting property in Melbourne can be quite competitive and if you are single and on a budget, there are online resources for matching potential new flatmates with your budget for a roof over your head.

To buy, median house prices in metropolitan Melbourne go from $360,000 AUS for a unit or apartment to $410,000 AUS for houses.

Working in Melbourne: Victoria is experiencing skill shortages in many industries. The Skilled and Business Migration Program is committed to attracting skilled and business migrants to fill those skill shortages that cannot be filled locally.

The state of Victoria has many large employers in many diverse industries such as Toyota, NEC, Hyatt International and GE Consumer Finance as well as seven out of ten of the financial services sectors main industry funds which are based around Melbourne. Furthermore the state of Victoria is home to a great many IT and biotechnology firms as well.
