During Infocomm Intelligent Lectern Systems unveiled its new ADA compliant lectern, the ILS12 mini-SpeakersCorner. The user can choose from three touch display technologies, and can operate the system from an internal or external PC.

Directly under the display mount, the ILS12 provides controls for the 3-position tilt adjustment, cable management, and a USB hub.

There also is a straightforward up and down switch for the electrical wide-range height adjustment, accommodating both the seated user as well as the taller-than-average one.

The lectern sits on an all aluminum high quality sleek Powerlift pillar with internal cable management, and it is positioned at a comfortable 12° angle. In the foot itself you will find an auxiliary function box in which (optionally) an industrial PC can be mounted.

Due to its annotation and presenting strengths, the ILS12 combination as featured during Infocomm is a very cost-effective comfortable system suited for use in education and training markets.
The ILS12 is equipped with the Wacom 19” pen-interactive display, or alternatively with the new ELOtouch 22” APR touch display for fast touch interaction; furthermore it provides support to several other touch monitors such as the SMART Sympodium Dual Touch products.

ILS sho-Q7 is unique presentation software. It supports presenter-view slide control with a window for notes and the previous and upcoming slide, combined with a true live confidence monitor window. It allows for live annotation on existing slides, as well as on a temporary blank slide. All this on a single lectern monitor. With one touch the user can get an overview of all the slides in a presentation, and any slide can be selected seamlessly from within multiple presentations.

During Infocomm, the company also announced remote control of all features of its flagship ILS22 lectern. ILStranslator-remote lets an AV assistant control the lectern in an auditorium from a PC in the studio in the back. It can make room -, lectern- and presenter control functions available to the presenter, disable or override them. Features like lectern height can be preset for each individual presenter with a touch of a button in the studio

A touch system upgrade for the ILS22 allows the 31” touch surface to provide drag & drop capabilities for the monitor area and its mouse pad region. Under this tempered glass surface you will find a full keyboard, as well as functional shortcuts and integrated room control buttons, which are etched in the glass around the 22”diagonal monitor area.
The total package is less than 3” thick.

Despite an overall lower visitor count during Infocomm’09, ILS experienced an increase in visitor interest by 60% compared to the previous year. The ILS22 enjoyed overwhelming interest because of its design statement and the unique combination of so many features in a single small footprint lectern solution. One client of ILS, AMX of Richardson TX, demonstrated new products using their ILS22 in its Infocomm theatre.

The system was demonstrated with the new sho-Q7 presentation and annotation system using the recently announced Wacom 19” pen-interactive display on the lectern’s VESA-mount, running from the integrated PC in the foot of its pedestal. After very enthusiastic reactions during the previews at the Integrated Systems Europe in Amsterdam, and the Eventech in Glasgow, sho-Q and ILS have launched sho-Q 7.

The companies developed this software specifically for large touch monitors, and now for the latest operating system developments from Microsoft.
Sho-Q 7 queues multiple PowerPoint presentations and in its presenter view includes not only previous/current/next slide and slide notes, but also offers a live view of what is happening on the screen behind the presenter. Presenters can now see slide transitions, animations and videos on the single lectern monitor, exactly as they occur on screen projected for the audience.

A single touch allows the live view to be enlarged to almost full screen on the monitor; this may be at a higher resolution than what is actually projected and results in great legibility and increased presenter confidence. In this mode the presenter can now use his finger or a stylus to interactively mark the data at his/her slide, and draw or write on these slides. Touch the blank screen button before going to pen mode, and the system inserts a new blank slide on which you can write. You can move back to presenter mode any time. This contributes greatly to exciting presentations and creates more retention of the messages delivered in any seminar or lecture.

“With sho-Q 7 we totally eliminate the need for a confidence monitor”, says Henk de Groot, managing director of ILS, “we wanted presenters and teachers to get the best out of PowerPoint, we even went as far as embedding Windows Media Player inside Microsoft PowerPoint to get the best control of flash animations and videos while presenting with sho-Q”.

Unfortunately the sho-Q 7 live window is not available to XP users and VISTA users that cannot switch on Aero. Sho-Q 7 is however fully ready and designed for Windows 7.

Intelligent Lectern Systems opened a showroom and lab facility where prospective buyers can see and test all ILS presentation and lecturing solutions side by side. ILS offers the widest choice in digital or intelligent lecterns with large touch displays in attractive stylish and ergonomic packages.

ILS lecterns come with optional PC, presenter software, room control and remote conferencing /
distance-learning / real-time streaming solutions.

The HIT, Hanze Institute of Technology has created a new campus in Assen with ample space, modern classrooms and teaching facilities. The institute is a first teaching facility entirely focused on sensor technology based solutions and attracts international bright students.

AMSTERDAM, July 10, 2008. Darim's innovative real time presentation streaming solution VR-Presenter will be integrated with ILS' sho-Q Presenter and Planning system and packaged as a complete solution in the ILS16 SpeakersCorner lectern. The two companies agreed this month to work on joint developments.

Where sho-Q is streamlining presentations in a seamless flow – regardless of the way the presenters choose to bring their presentations to the lectern – VRPresenter captures the presenter in real time and automatically mixes this image with the output of his/her presentation to form a single XGA data stream at full resolution.

There is no arduous posting process, the data is streamed to the net in real time and optionally recorded for later viewing in eLearning mode.

Like with sho-Q, the operation of the total streaming system is just as intuitive, and training is minimal. A few buttons will initiate the studio-session and allow for manipulation of pre-set camera views mixing the presenter with the presentation output. Transitions are seamless; it only takes one touch to have the presenter in full view, another to have the presentation in full view. Other buttons mix the two in various superpositions.

ILS has showcased its new ILS22G lectern platform during the Infocomm 2008 in Las Vegas. The new system makes use of Acoustic Pulse Recognition in multiple frames of one glass. It serves a 22” monitor field, keyboard, mouse pad, room control, source control and annotation under a single tempered glass sheet with no bezel around it. Control buttons are back-lit on demand.
The ILS22G implementation includes complete PC functionality and microphone support in a 25” x 20” x 1.5“-3” package that can be integrated in any podium, table, and cabinet or on any pedestal. The elegant pizza box style package lives up to architects and AV system integrators needs.

3 serial ports, 2 LAN ports, 10 relay switches allow easy implementation of control protocol standards. Sho-Q Presenter provides the ideal support for multiple MS PowerPoint presentations on the integrated 22” display.

ILS provides own solutions to place the system flat on the table, at a lectern style slope, on the wall next to a whiteboard, on a pedestal with electrical lift, and integrated in its ILS24G cabinet. The latter includes 4way and 2way EXTRON switching, controlled again from the glass touch surface.

In a move to satisfy popular request by the Audio Visual market, ILS announces the ILS24, a larger version of the ILS16 SpeakersCorner. This Swiss designed, German made cabinet now features a full 19” x 19” rack inside the lockable cabinet and has a VESA mount for a much wider range of monitors with tilt and height adjustment. Its marked T-shape allows for easy placement of laptops or beamers. AV systems integrators will find ample space inside to install amplifiers, streaming and multimedia equipment inside next to a PC.

Just like the ILS16 SpeakersCorner, the ILS24 comes professionally pre-wired for any PC, display and optional equipment in use such as a document camera. Also you can switch to the connectors for notebooks on the wing tablets. By implementing 2 Extron 4-way and 2-way switchers next to a KVM switch, you can now switch to different sources while the audience views the display output without interruption from the extended graphics port of the PC. The wing tablets have two height positions; the lower level was added to accommodate a visualizer more comfortably.

ILS and Audio Visual Material of Farnborough, UK’s highly regarded distributor of complementary systems solutions to the professional audiovisual systems integration channel, have concluded a distribution agreement for major portions of the ILS product line for the entire United Kingdom.
The move by ILS complements its dealer network in the Benelux, Germany and North America.

“We found it effective to support our dealers nearby directly; however for the UK, AV Material could quickly demonstrate to us, that they would be far more productive in supporting current and future UK resellers for ILS Lecterns and Presentation systems. AV Material’s sales and support team has established system integrator relations and tremendous knowledge and skills to serve corporate and institutional markets, education, government and the hospitality industry through its channels” says Henk de Groot, ILS managing director.

“This unique product line fits right in with our target markets. Wherever multiple presentations are part of regular activities, the lecterns with the sho-Q presentations management and delivery support tools is a natural choice for many meeting rooms, lecture halls, auditoriums and business centers, and for the board room. The deal comes after Intelligent Lectern Systems established its North America Operation and set up a representative’s network across the States in the previous month.

ILS also announced sales successes and installations in key places for its sho-Q software and ILS lectern hardware, such as Boston Scientific (conference rooms), Roche Diagnostics (Auditorium for internal and external use), European Space Agency (studio and auditorium right next to all life sized manned spacecraft models), Major Dutch banks (auditorium and meeting rooms), Major European Union conference centers and e.g. the new Romerus University facilities in Vilnius. SMART Technologies of Calgary has added the ILS16 SpeakersCorner to its furniture catalog for its resellers.

Intelligent Lectern Systems BV (ILS) of the Netherlands has opened this week its United States Office and appointed Niall Johnston to head up its US business development activities. The office will be San Diego based. Niall has a wealth of experience in developing new businesses, worked as very successful Regional Sales Manager for Microage with a team of 20 sales execs, was General Manager of a new branch for the same company, has managed Kiosk business, e-Learning software business and marketed Rights Managed Medical Images 3D4Medical.

Participating with its ILS booth at the largest AV Professional Specialist Show Infocomm in Anaheim, Henk de Groot President and Owner of ILS commented: “The hundreds of opportunities presented to us during the show, from many large AV dealers and system integrators, from large companies, from distributors and OEM’s made it abundantly clear to us, that we had to move quickly to establish a focal point for channel relations and support. ILS has completed its negotiations with Swiss owners of the rights to the SpeakersCorner Lectern in order to be able to bring the product and new derivative designs to the global market. All rights transfer to ILS. The product has been developed 2002 - 2004 at the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich (ETHZ) and since undergone several design alterations by the Swiss firm Tribecraft and Mr. Frank Schefter in cooperation with the manufacturer BFE in Germany, to make it the most stylish and functional design the market can find for a compact electronic lectern housing.

ETHZ designed the product to satisfy its internal needs and that of many universities for a robust but compact alternative to the large tables and cabinets often in the way of good teaching. In its current form it is manufactured by BFE Studio und Medien Systeme GmbH. The default system allows integration of PC, LAN and audio amplification and mounts the SMART technologies Sympodium ID series for interactivity. It is also pre-wired for other devices and features a straightforward large KVM switch to guide output of such devices to the projection screen.

Avid users include next to the ETH Zürich, Swiss universities of Winterthur, Bern, Lausanne, and Karlsruhe and Bonn in Germany. Several major corporations are also using (owning and renting) the equipment. ILS added clients to this recently in other countries as it distributed the product under the name ILS16P.

After featuring the product during the Integrated Systems Europe Show and the Infocomm 2007 show in Los Angeles Henk de Groot, owner of ILS, commented: ”We are very glad with the ownership. Not only is the ILS16P SpeakersCorner a great product in our portfolio, it is also an essential support piece in our product development strategy. ASSEN, The Netherlands — At the award ceremony on June 7 Intelligent Lectern Systems received a top award in its category in a challenge for best innovative project. Expert judges analyzed 86 projects and ranked quality in planned execution, its regional involvement, leadership and entrepreneurial drive, market experience and likeliness to succeed.

The award is a great recognition and contributes greatly towards realizing a new lectern product category says Henk de Groot, it is based on large touch display systems with presenter centric rewritten Powerpoint interface, completely enhanced and tuned to intuitive support for multiple presenters and presentation delivery.

The company’s Sho-Q software was specifically written to turn any seminar or meeting into a professionally executed event. Simple one touch control start of presentations, preview capability and unique context sensitive controls appearing when needed for embedded media, build slides or animations, notes, jumping to other slides, automatic interval presentation so that the presenter feels really in control. The audience sees a continuous display of presentations, no blue screens, no cluttered desktops, no frantic fixes of hooking up notebooks to projectors. New hardware developments were also part of the project.

ILS uncovered a unique multi-functional lectern/kiosk at the ISE 2007 in Amsterdam. The versatile product is targeted at the hotels and convention industry, but will also do well in the board room. The ILS-20S Digilectern belongs to the category of Intelligent Lecterns: supporting the presenter with a state of the art touch screen to guide him through a speech intuitively and gives the speaker confidence and credibility. The ILS-20S features ample height adjustment to accommodate both seated and standing speakers. The display also pivots, transforming the lecture in an interactive kiosk.

AV-Industry embraces ILS Intelligent Lecterns during ISE 2007 in Amsterdam

ILS participated for the first time in the Integrated Systems Europe 2007 expo January 30 – February 1, with its family of Intelligent Lecterns. ILS introduced 6 different compact ready-to-go lecterns, giving customers a wide range of choice in intelligent lecterns. Reviewed by the experts in the market, the lectern systems were appreciated for their practicality and ease of use, especially with the Sho-Q presentation software and seminar planner that was announced and demonstrated on all of the lecterns. Booth visitors all had their preferences, demonstrating the need for Audio Visual Resellers to offer such a complete range of solutions.

ILS is a new activity launched to fill a major market void. ILS delivers a choice in lecterns, cost-savings, and promotes local lectern designs with efficient, appliance-like use. “We are establishing a new product category at the ISE,” says Henk de Groot of ILS. “Until now lecterns tended to be big and custom made, we will change that. In line with the AV-IT convergence, we are launching a wide range of lectern hardware and software based on industry standards. ILS offers buyers long term support, upgradeability and improved value. Efficiency of scale will make pricing more attractive.”

In industry guru Gary Kayye’s rAVe newsletter, Editor-in-chief Bob Bisschop wrote: “If you speak in public a lot, you can appreciate the collection: lecterns that automate the queuing of a series of speeches, lecterns that respond via touch screen, lecterns that rise or lower to your preferred height, lecterns that can transform into digital signage… I hope all the conference centers and hotels get the point and stop dragging out cheap veneer lecterns that can barely fit a PC…the ones that wobble and shake when you lean on them…and the ones that are draped in wires, spider dens of electrical cords.”

ILS is a new activity launched to fill a major market void. ILS delivers a choice in lecterns, cost-savings, and promotes local lectern designs with efficient, appliance-like use.

Today, most digital lecterns are based on wooden cabinet enclosures in which computers and other AV are housed. Typically, these cabinets are used in classrooms, lecture halls, and corporate boardrooms, and occupy a lot of space. They are often created locally and have limited functionality. However several companies have provided interesting, functional and well-designed solutions, both in hardware and software, but have confined themselves to their own country or region; the lack of volume makes these products relatively expensive.

ILS aims to change this. As the first comprehensive intelligent lectern source, ILS brings together products that match our philosophy. Often this requires added features, for instance, larger touch screens, optimized for the best eye to screen distance and finger touch use: hence 19” – 24” [finger] touch screen systems are added to the customary 15” – 17” display systems for pen-driven interactivity.

Key judgment criteria are quality of manufacturing, ease-of-use, ease-of-setup, functionality, and style. The buyer selects his options: a single internal PC for all presentation data access; output methods to multiple screens; or easy hook-up of an external PC. Expansions include streaming and archiving; seamless speaker tools, and planning for events. Other choices include integrated document camera; networked content support; remote speaker support; asset management; in-room controls. An intelligent lectern provides the presenter with more information than is shown to the public: e.g. presentation flow control, previewing of notes, message prompting and time keeping.

“It is our aim to promote intelligent lecterns as appliances. Systems are fully operational out of the box and combine the best hardware and software, allowing customers to present with ease and confidence. By working closely with local AV system integrators, ILS leverages local expertise to embed lecterns into the user’s environment, from businesses to classrooms. For efficiency, we provide direct shipment to end-user clients”, says Henk de Groot, an industry veteran and MD of ILS.

"By creating a catalog of independently produced lecterns for international distribution, ILS will achieve cost-savings. Prices will not exceed those in the country the system is developed, and further savings will be passed on to the end-user and channel clients."
